Politics / Re: Jonathan Wants Senate To Okay $200m World Bank Loan For Lagos by hercules07: 10:57pm On Oct 24, 2013
I have responded to the topic, the FG is not doing Lagos a favour, on the Lekki Epe Expressway, let the FG using the EFCC, IG, SSS and any other law enforcement agents arrest all those involved in the deals and charge them to court, afterall, if they are guilty, the money is coming back to Lagos state and will be used to the benefit of all, while we are at it, can you please tell us how much has been expended on the Lagos - Ibadan expressway?

taharqa: FG as GUARANTOR! You do know what that means, right?? GUARANTOR: meaning d FG wud eventuali pay the loan if there is any default and LASG decides Or are unable to pay ie d World Bank wud ultimately hold d FG. In other words, without d GUARANTEE from d FG (from this President), the World Bank wud refuse to release d money and these projects (Lagos Light Rail, Badagry-Epe Expressway, Gbagada General Hospital, etc) wud NEVER see d light of d day!!! Later when these projects are completed sm people wud be shouting 'Eko oni baje' and even trying to insult d President!...... By d way, what does d LASG do with d over #20billion every month sef?? They also plan to borrow another #87billion by raising Bonds in other to complete that FRAUD that is Lekki-Epe Rd, and ie after paying about #23billion to 'buy back' d road from a FAILED Concessionaire that shld ordinarily be the ones paying d State Govt for failing d terms of its contract (ie a total of #103 wud eventuali be spent to construct a less than 50km road that shld never hv bn up to #50billion- MOST of which wud be borrowed)...#EKO ONI BAJE O

Please stop this nonsense, is the loan free, Lagos has made other arrangements and the FG is just trying to save face, Lagos is credible when it comes to paying its debt, why does Jonathan not go after the Lagos state government if he believes Fashola is stealing afterall, Tinubu is a civilian who is not protected by any immunity. We should thank the FG for being petty, the enron project that Lagos continues to have its money deducted despite the FG not sticking to the agreement is still there, FG roads in Lagos that have been rehabilitated, confirmed by the incompetent FG have not had their money reimbursed, Yar Adua was slow but listen to what Fashola had to say on the Ikoyi Lekki bridge and how he went out of his way to make that happen, that is what we call leadership, not the petty nonsense that GEJ and his cohorts are doing.

We need to annex Ibadan to Ijebuland since apparently Ijebu's make up about 25% of the Ibadan population and we chased the Egba's away from there. What do you think, bro? tongue

Education / Re: Strike: A Wrong Approach To Nigeria's Educational Problems by hercules07: 3:19pm On Oct 24, 2013
Davo93: @Richiez & Bionicdude; Like i stated in that piece, strike is an archaic method that hardly moves our leaders anymore, most especially the African leaders. If not so, how can a nation's tertiarry institutions be down for close to four good months now and yet, no headway?

I also mentioned there that i believe in the power of dialogue. Yes! you can say dialogue has not been effective, but i tell you, if dialogue is initiated and engaged in a 'very strategic' manner, it will be productive. The wonderful results the power of dialogue has achieved around the globe particularly in Africa over time cannot under-estimate its viability.

I am sure you are aware that government does not honour agreements, the ASUU strike took the dialogue approach before they embarked on this course.

On a serious note, the National Conference is just a jamboree, we all know that nothing will come of it, the President will convene it, some people will participate, the result will be sent to the NA, those ones will reject it, the President will say he did his part but the Houses rejected it and we are back to square one.

honifome: that's not true. The fall of ilorin to Fulani is as a result of disunity within.
Chivalry was part of the yoruba character, the Ibadans were once betrayed by the Egbas, in atonement, the Egbas allowed the Ibadans to take one of their towns unchallenged, the idiot sent by the ibadans was incompetent and could not even defeat the town, the egbas allowed them to send someone else to sack the town the second time and slates were wiped clean.

Tony Spike:

The Ilorin generals of Yoruba extract must have been beheaded because of their treachery towards their brothers. However, I still don't know why the Fulani generals were left alive.

There was an unwritten rule about such things, the Yorubas believed a General had been humiliated enough once he is defeated in war, also, they used such gestures as goodwill towards the enemy, in return, if the enemy captures the children or wives of the Yoruba Generals, he is expected to reciprocate. Ogunmola was reproached for killing the children of Kurunmi despite the fact that Kurunmi himself was marked for death (Abacha had nothing on Ogunmola, though, Ogunmola only terrorised the elites). The Yoruba Generals were considered as traitors and summarily executed.

honifome: aftermath of fulani takeover, why can't you launch retaliatory attacks against them if truly you are not cowards.I learnt that yoruba used firearms, spears and swords for armoury while fulanis used spears and swords alone during the conquest

You learned wrong, most of the Ilorin Generals were Yorubas, infact, when Ibadans captured the Hausas and Fulanis, they let their leaders go but the Yorubas were executed, go and read more.

I can not get my head around the fact that an Ilorin man will want to go with the north, he is going to be politically dead and will be marginalised for ever, shebi Ilorin people are even running an emirate, an Offa man has an Oba and should not be thinking of any north, as it is, Offa is marginalised by Ilorin, why would you want to continue in the same vein.

In one breath 'Alpha Beta has never collected tax on behalf of Lagos State government'. In another breath 'they also go after those who have been evading taxes'

Spot the difference.

Read my post very well, Alpha Beta are assessors, they help the government identify those who are evading taxes, that is the meaning of going after those who evade taxes, imagine a company that has not paid taxes for some time or is declaring income below what it has earned, it is the job of alpha beta to do the intelligence work to determine that the company is owing, thereafter, the tax guys in the LASG will swoop on the company, please educate yourself more on what alpha beta does for lagos state.
Politics / Re: Govt Bans Tax Contractors In States, Igp To Enforce Policy by hercules07: 8:48am On Oct 22, 2013
Alpha Beta has never collected tax on behalf of Lagos State government, what they have always done is to help the government assess the tax to be collected, they also go after those who have been evading taxes, this policy does not affect them one bit.
Politics / Re: New World Order Exposed By Former World Bank Whistle Blower by hercules07: 5:43pm On Oct 21, 2013
Symphony007: Some of the groups that keep turning up over and over again are, for example, the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Illuminati, the Bilderburgers, the Rockefellers, and others.
Some of these are institutions that have real power in the world and we should be investigating them as power brokers. The dilemma is assuming because a group has power that it has control. There are many powerful groups that meet and plot strategy. The Bilderburgers are a real banking group, the Trilateral Commission really does affect foreign policy.
But there isn’t one group that is the puppeteer over everything; there are a number of groups that are jockeying for power. Sometimes they work together, sometimes they have falling-outs. That’s the distinction here. An institutional analysis would look at the role of these powerful groups and say, “This is where they’ve been successful, this is where they’ve failed. These groups worked together for a number of years. Now they don’t work together.” It’s the insistence on a kind of Manichean thinking: there are evil forces in the world and good people have to expose them, and everything will be fine once they are exposed. This is a magical explanation of how the world works. Power concedes nothing without a struggle, as Frederick Douglass pointed out. You cannot change the way power is exercised in the world simply by exposing a handful of people. There needs to be a struggle to explain how systems and institutions and structures of society affect us.
Even if we could expose a handful of people who are powerful, there would still be powerful forces of capitalism and class exploitation. There would be powerful forces of white supremacy. There would be patriarchy. There would be heterosexism.
In your research, what groups and individuals have you identified as principal disseminators of these kinds of ideas?
Skipping over the 2,000 years of Christian millennial, apocalyptic allegations of conspiracy, we can cut to the chase around the late 1700s. The basic idea really starts as a defense of the monarchy and oligarchy in Europe against the Enlightenment, against free thinkers and liberal thinkers in Europe who were demanding that citizens have a right to have a say in their society. People who defended church-state alliance, the monarchy, and oligarchy put out a series of books alleging that calling for voting and democracy and the scientific method and the Enlightenment was all a plot by people trying to destroy society by undermining church and state. The basic allegations of modern conspiracy thinking start out as a right-wing attack in defense of the status quo. Ironically, as more and more democracy was introduced into society, this flips and people now are criticizing the government, claiming that the government is run by the conspiracy.
For many decades these are right-wing theories that surface against the Jesuits, against Jews, against anarchists, and during the McCarthy period, against Communists. The basic theme is that the reason you’re unhappy with the government is that there are these secret elites who run everything. The original allegations started out with the Illuminati, which is said to be controlling the Freemasons. In the 1900s, this gets changed to the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion,” a hoax document that alleges that Jews run everything. In the 1950s, it’s all about the Communists and the State Department and the CIA versus the really righteous people in the military and conservative groups. Today it filters down so that a number of progressives have adopted this way of thinking and claim that ever since the JFK assassination the government has been run by a handful of secret elites.
The reason I get so frustrated with this is that we’re sitting here in a library. Just a few feet from us there are 300 or 400 books written by right wingers over the last 50 years making all of these allegations. Then I have a shelf of books by progressives who have adopted this way of thinking and made it a progressive issue by abandoning any kind of systemic institutional or structural analysis.

Bros how much have JPmorgan paid in fines this year.

I did not mean to upset your knowledge, but look at the pattern of contribution so far on this thread. Posters like Kats, Shymmex, Dudu_Negro, etc have always cited sources and cross reference some other texts. You get a sense that somewhere in what they are saying, if you go look for some of the sources, you'd find the most complete truth. On the other hand, you come in and write a couple of lines without any convincing source or argument! Well, we would only believe you if you were Oduduwa, Obatala, Orunmila, etc yourself and you saw everything yourself and there is in fact nothing to reference because you are the reference! You understand? That is my whole point.
