Can't u see dt u don't make any sense at all. How will d system work with so many issues on ground is my ques....... As a matter of fact, my mother is a teacher in Osun public skul.
Bout him giving uniforms, do u knw dt all students across all skuls av identical uniform (what is a school uniform?) Also av to pay #1,950 to replace the one given to dem wen it gets old. Av u forgotten previous administration also feed pupils?
Av u forgotten so fast that the previous governments provided a whole lotta of roads in d state too (2ru honey-web system).
Am an advocate of good and visionary governance not one who politicize every move with mere propagandas. I don't care whether its APC or PDP.
DIS JUST TO ENLIGHTEN U!!!!!

Can you mention the roads that were provided by the former government? Please note that I visited Osun state almost every two weeks during Oyinlola's time.
You can see the hatred seeping from people on this thread, Osun state has not done anything wrong, it is still 6 years in Primary and 6 Years in Secondary, the change is only the way the students are housed, there is nothing the government can do about it, the curriculum remains the same and actually, the State Governments are in charge of both Primary and Secondary schools (except for Federal Government ones).

Why is it so difficult for you to get that the coup was more of a Midwest action than the entire Igbo action? It is hypocrisy to blame Southeast for anything about the coup or the war. Southeasterners were just victims of what Midwest Igbos did and until this day, the error has still not been corrected.

Were they igbos?

Thank you for your honesty and genuine attempts at debating the issue.

The killers said Ademulegun was reaching for his drawer. Both him and his wife were killed, so no witnesses to know what really happened. What we know is that a man was gunned down with his PREGNANT wife on his bed.

Ahmadu Bello's guard was trying to defend his boss so no issues with his death. But what about Bello's wife who was trying to shield her husband? Why not drag her away before shooting Bello?

Unegbe was killed for something other than the coup. Only Anuforo entered his house. Anuforo, the killer, was the only witness.

A writer can present facts which I can accept but I don't have to accept all his conclusions.

The accusations made by Bello and Akintola weren't without merit. One only has to look at the actions taken by Zik and those close to him to understand better. One of the accusations made by Akintola was that the Igbos wanted everything for themselves. Take the case of Dr anieke, the first certificate forger that was appointed by Zik as the head of UI's teaching hospital, who was forced to resign before being appointed again by Zik as the chairman of UIs governing council. There was merit in some cases and downright nepotism in other cases. One of the issues Akintola raised with Awo was the Yorubas were being overlooked in many areas. For instance, the list for overseas scholarships were overwhelmingly Igbo. One of the first things Akintola did was to address that list.

Just read Wole Soyinka's Ibadan the Penkelemes years, you will get the full story there.

I believe the system which existed at independence was close to the best system. I would have weakened the center a bit more to make it less attractive. Outside of foreign relations, central banking, and defence, each region should be responsible for its laws, policing and judiciary. A nation with just Northerners would have been unbalanced and would have led to more conflict.

The problem is you have the SW and the North that understand appreciating the cultures and traditions of their hosts, then you have our brothers from the East who are more interested in trampling on the hosts and denigrating their culture (maybe it is the online ones sha). We can not go back to that system because everybody is gunning for the center and they can see it is very sweet. On the Ironsi death and the January coup, what our brothers from the east do not understand is that Okpara or Zik needed to die or should have been sacrificed, there was no way the July coup would not have happened, Ironsi was very naive and unprepared as an administrator; the same traits we see in our dear president.

The man has EMPOWERED Zimbabweans with his land reform programme. Now they are no longer slaves on their own ancestral land.

The Rossik I like, Mugabe helped stabilize South Africa, if he had kicked off his land reform just after apartheid ended, SA would have gone up in flames, he was persuaded to shelve it. We need to ask why the British did not adhere to the Lancashire house agreement.

How can the people decide when Mugabe controls the electoral process and every arm of government? Recall that prior to the 'Arab spring' everyone thought all was well and dandy with Gadaffi and his people...all thought that his people loved him.

But with the examples from their Arab neighbours came with it the truth and real state of the Libyan nation. The fact that Zimbabweans seem docile does not mean that they want Mugabe. If they are okay with Mugabe why would they call for yhr modification of their constitution?

I am sure Libyans yearn for Gaddafi days now, what you guys do not understand is that the land issue is what gives Mugabe legitimacy, the opposition is being tele-guided from the west and the people believe they are not in their interest. I quoted the British system, what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, the Zimbabweans have always chosen him, once Mugabe leaves, you guys will be surprised that those who will take after him are even more hardcore, let us ask ourselves sincerely, can people take away our lands and we remain passive?

Your assessment of the Libya case is greatly flawed.

The west did not turn Libya upside down, they did that themselves. Same with Egypt today. The people clamoured for change and change was what they got.

I really do not care much about the west and what they want to achieve. Mugabe's continued stay in office after 33 years is not healthy for the Country. Haba, how can one man rule a country since she attained independence?

You do know that an English prime minister can be in office for as long as he is the head of the winning party, Zimbabwe's constitution allows the man to contest as many times as possible, he has not done anything wrong.

PvtParts: Buhari

The Political landscape of Shagari although corrupt was a championing and rallying call for New Age Africa. Shagari was taking a tough stand on Apartheid South Africa and Nigerian Foreign policy was directed by career diplomats and not by meetings with the U.S. Ambassador. This ensured a policy framework and professionalism at the Foreign office. Shagari administration also consolidated on the OPEC cartel by ensuring that Nigeria had a permanent representative and a veto power.

Not so good for a puppet leader.

The Option: A Coup

Buhari was a willing recruit. Funding was provided and the strategy was reviewed over by the Reagan administration until a go ahead was given to Buhari.

Only one problem.
Buhari's main ambition was to instill an Islamic Utopia south of the Sahara.

He got the boot and his Chief of Staff IBB got the job.

Bros dont quit your day job.

That you even thought of mentioning such an ancient personage from the pre-industrial era shows your pre-industrial level of thinking. Perhaps in the days of Alexander, a soldier adept at ''conquering nations'' would have been appropriate, for which Gowon may have fitted. But this was the 20th century, when qualities required for national leadership involved far more brain than brawn.

His age is shocking. I can't imagine a 32 year old ruling Nigeria today. What were we thinking?

Awo achieved a lot, as did Ahmadu Bello, Michael Okpala etc. The impact of their progressive rule and activism is felt even till today in their respective regions. These were credible leaders. Go and read your Nigerian history.

Firstly, this is the Politics Section in case you forgot, and thus, all threads are subject to political scrutiny, including those discussing ''elegance''.

Secondly, you are the educated mumu who would rather discuss the ''elegance of Gowon's wife'', than debate the impact of the ten year dictatorship of the nation by an unqualified, unelected gun toting soldier.

Your education is wasted on frivolities.

How old were both Zik and Awo when they became leaders and premier of their region??

Fashola should actually do more than apologizing. He has to close down the concentration camp where he warehouses innocent Nigerians captured in their own country illegally.
Secondly, he has to account for those people who died while in that holding camp. The deportees alleged that some people died there, and that they were held there for 2 years. He has to account for that.
Finally, he should pay compensation to those whose constitutional rights he violated with impunity.

Failing to do these will destroy him politically in Nigeria, making him a political leper at the center; unless he has no presidential ambitions.
If he doubts the power of a sectional grudge in Nigeria, he should go and ask Abiola.
One Igboman named Arthur Nzeribe made sure that Abiola's dream never materialized.
A word is enough for the wise.

You guys just love chest beating, Nzeribe was a tool in the hands of the military, it could have been anybody. Compensation ko, compensation ni, why were you guys not shouting like this when people from other states were sent back to their states. You guys need to learn how to treat your hosts with respect, all of this noise is just making moderate yoruba people see the easterners in bad light, the funny thing is, outside of nairaland and those pesky politicians, everybody has got peeps from the east who are very very good friends.

I think Ndigbo -like me- feel that all the dust raised over this 'deportation' issue wouldn't have gone this far or become this intense if Fashola had apologised from the onset at the way the 'deportees' were dumped unceremoniously at Upper Iweka in the dead of the night......their being held against their will in holding centres is another issue altogether and would require a few of the victims to corroborate! I feel his staff went overboard in their haste to send a couple of Igbos packing from Lagos, and the impropriety of their actions were lost on them.

I think leadership in Igboland (and other regions as well) needs to go back to the cerebral/intellectual/vision-led way it used to be in the good old days of Zik, and this is why i'm rooting for Soludo to be the next Governor of Anambra state.

Fashola should apologise for reuniting people with their families, where was the governor of Anambra state to accept his people, even if it was at 1am, was it too much for Obi to have some social workers wait for them?

As much as I know that the banks directors soiled their hands, Sanusi's vendetta mission caused more harm than good. Do you know the thousands of people that lost their jobs in the banking sector? The so called debts Billion Naira were owed by people like Dangote who said they had not breached the terms of the loans and were servicing them.

So, who among the debtors were jailed or had their assets frozen?

Just recently, about N2B of N1,000.00, were stolen from the central bank, where was Sanusi?
This one was not even in another commercial bank, but right inside the CBN.

You guys shoud not worry, it won't be long and "Sanusi" will go, and his true colours will be made manifest.

I am all for Sanusi going to jail if he is compromised, I support what is right, the banking industry was living a lie, as far as I am concerned Sanusi should not have bailed those banks out, by the way, what of polymer notes scandal.

but what kind of hero is he? Hero who was battling for his life and needed the people's

at bridge head by 3am in the morning. Ngige is not coming to work, he is coming to "chop"

Okay! Heres the summary of all that Long grammar;

1. The F.G is a person. They dont build roads that they are supposed to build. Maybe cos they have too many roads Nationwide to fix.

2. LASG is a thief. They over inflate the prices of road construction by over 300%. So this may be why the F.G never allows them to fix the roads like other states do.

3. While the Useless F.G and the Thieving S.G are their pointing hands, NIGERIANS are the ones dyingand losing out.

Can you give us prices of FG and LASG built roads so we can compare? I believe FG roads are usually more expensive than that of the LASG.

The cost of most of our public projects are high, it is due to our culture and the way those projects are awarded, SW projects are still cheaper than those of the FG and when factors are considered, are inflated but not to the extent that people are shouting here. Yes it takes ability to make it into harvard. But this shouldn't be story worthy from a public servant. . You won't see anyone celebrating David Camerons children going to harvard because great britian has equally capable schools in oxford and cambridge. You won't see anyone celebrating the obama kids going to oxford or cambridge when you have the worlds best schools in the US, or as a US leader you are expected to evoke that sentiment. Ngozi Okonji Iweala, as with so many Nigerian leaders who pay lip service to change, are all hypocrites in my opinion.

It also takes money to get into harvard, there is something called grand fathering rule, once someone in your family has attended harvard, you have a brighter chance of getting in there, also, if you can put some money down for research, nobody will say no to your wards coming to harvard, it is only difficult for children of the poor and not too connected. It is a good thing her children have attended Harvard, but, they will be measured by what they are able to impart not the school they attended.
