Ile-ife is very very good. Oshogbo too.
The society is very conservative, religious too (Christian, Muslim or otherwise). Many people are old, and instill good old fashioned discipline. The schools are good, most people are staff of the university or related business, exposure to academics brings light

EducationRe: Primary School Pupils In Osun Protest Against Lingering ASUU Strike (Video) by HeyHey(f): 9:18pm On Jul 31, 2022
whitebeard:
what concern primary school students with ASUU ?
A lot. Especially primary schools in university environments where the parents are staff or operate businesses dependent on students.

Even so young, they know the quality of education has fallen, why?, they live in an academic environment. They can see that with the way things are going, Nigeria can produce the next Wole Soyinka or Achebe locally. They can see that the society is contrary to their teachings of a great nation.

This is a school that invites professionals to inspire children, what inspiration can a professor who has been on strike for over 5months give now?

It concerns them, because before the strike they benefited from a citadel of learning, home to researchers, local and international students from all over west Africa.
Most of them will finish and go to OAU secondary school, where the tor of falling standard is already creeping in. Abi when last did you see a university owned secondary school on COWBELL, mathematics for life or Olympiad?.

The pupils in the video were brought by adults for demonstration at the OAU Ife gate. Most of them don't evey know the full meaning of ASU.However their parents are OAU staff and the school is possibly run by a University member of staff. The tutored demonstrators and the organisers must have good reasons for the exercise. However, will it not be better for us, adults, to continue with the struggle ourselves? What if this peaceful protest becomes violent or some gangsters hijack it and carry out their nefarious activities in the process? What if our defenceless kids are lured away in the process? Are we not exposing our kids to danger by ourselves? Are we not trying to solve a problem by creating another one? In my humble opinions,
In view of the prevalent insecurity in the country, our innocent kids should be left out of this struggle.I come in peace.
However, will it not be better for us, adults, to continue with the struggle ourselves?

No, because the strike affects these kids too. Many of them are children of OAU staff who haven’t received salary in months. They can barely feed or pay fees. When kids, especially these ones in a university environment, engage in activities like this, it increases their awareness of the problems in our education system. They know that life is not all “cupcakes and rainbows”

What if this peaceful protest becomes violent or some gangsters hijack it and carry out their nefarious activities in the process?

This is very unlikely as the school received approval (and extra security) from OAU before starting the protest at the gate. In addition, all staff of the school was present, and many parents.

What if our defenceless kids are lured away in the process?

Like I said, the adult supervision was top notch. This was well within contemplation. The kids were not wandering about, they protest for less than 3hours under very strict supervision.

Are we not exposing our kids to danger by ourselves?
No, we are raising socially conscious kids, who can identify a problem and speak up. This protest, cultural awareness, space research and education, HIV/virology annual program are some of the few ways this school raises exceptional kids. They recently interview Folake Solanke SAN, primary 1 - 4, how many kids do you know have this much exposure?

Are we not trying to solve a problem by creating another one?

No, we are not.

In as much as I don't support lateness, my question is: did the pastor warn the couple in advance, and let them know the implication of coming late? If the answer is no, I think what the pastor did is abuse of power.

It's their day for crying out loud! They must have spent so much money, energy and resources for the wedding of that day only for one power-drunk pastor to arbitrarily cancel it because of 35 minutes lateness!

Don’t marry a materialistic wife is all i can say, before marriage discuss finances.

When I was young there was this couple in my area that always come to our house to settle their quarrels their number one issue was Money. The husband was a low salary earners, who was trying to save up to advance his life but his wife was not having none of it even though she earned far more. She wanted him not to only take care of feeding but pay school fees, buy new clothes this and that.

On query if she can afford these things she said “yes” but she wants her husband to do it, so she can keep her money.

All the talk about give your husband time, support and love went in one ear and came out another.

This woman finally left her husband all because she thought he was taking care of enough bills. My folks said “oh well, it was money he used to woo her in the first place….”

I have not forgotten this since childhood, Be mindful of the kinda woman you marry this applies to women too, be mindful of the kind of man you marry. People can be selfish, unloving regardless of gender.
Will there agree?, materialism is the beginning of plenty problems. Modest people are not viewed as attractive enough, the person that is popping, can you afford her eye lash?, her wig? , her nails, and her cravings?, NO!, person when no Dey work oo. Or is running and unsustainable business, mixing personal and business capital.
You marry am reach house you wan con change am to fit reality, highly impossible

This matter get as he be.
I believe there are good people and bad people, not good gender and bad gender.

Recently my mom threatened to beat my father, according to her “ I will beat you and it’s on the ground your kids will pick you”, he just went through a surgery. I was perplexed until a sibling explained that it was accumulated hate (since women don’t forgive easily and are fond of forgetting good times). This accumulated hate made me remember when we were younger he used to flog her with a long pipe, the kind used for to fuel car. If she came home late (7pm), he will beat her from the gate, if anyone of us did sth wrong he will abuse her till day break and tell her “ he will channel his resources towards his kid with his baby mama”.
At least in my presence as a grown child he chased her with fully a weapon, beat her till her eyes bled that when I took her to the hospital, the nurses almost ate me raw for allowing my father hit her.

When we as humans are poor, old and sick, is when we know the worth of our relationships. This is not to exclude vile people, but we get what we give.

Similarly, few of the things some men are complaining of, are things I believe involved fathers should do when they are home to generally create a family environment. Though this Nigerian hardship too is taking its toll on families

Hello People, an update on transportation. I just came back from Greece and through Arlanda and can better describe how you leave the airport using the SL bus (the cheapest). As you are leaving, just ask where you get the busses (it is on terminal 4). When you get there, just walk out and look out for a bus booth. The signs will lead you there (local bus is what you look out for). If you are confused, just ask someone where to get the SL bus. Board the bus to Marsta where you ride the train to the city or any other part of stockholm.

The next thing I will pot is about shopping, my experience only.

Cheers people.
Thank you.

Can the SL card be gotten immediately and used that day?, or na queue too?,

FamilyRe: My Daughter's First Menses! by HeyHey(f): 9:12pm On May 14, 2022
My experience was not pleasant.

When I started, it was on a Saturday. I was 11, I went to wee when I saw the stain.

I told my mum, she said I should get pieces cloth and use (in 2007-/08, when pad was every where). She said she didn’t have money for pad (which was a lie bc she owned 2 cars), later she gave me tissue paper to use. The tissue paper kept moving to the side and scattering on the floor while I was walking. Once she saw the tissue paper and started shouting for the whole house to hear that I was on period and scattering tissue round the house. After then, my male cousin will make remarks like “rotten egg is smelling “ etc. if I make any mistake that time, what I will hear is “you no be small pikin, no be breast Dey your chest so”, it was extremely embarrassing

I went to pay phone to call my sister, she came home from university. Gave me always and explained menstruation, ovulation, a cycle, hygiene and abstinence to me. She go me roll on, body sprays too. And encourage me to be very neat while it’s flows.

Sir, it’s good you are interested. Kindly let your daughter know (together with your madam), what is involved. How to take care of herself, wash up, hygiene generally. What the implications of menstruation are, the pain and how to deal with it ( a lot of people attribute bad behavior to menses, saying it’s mood swing etc. I believe people should be kind through their period instead of creating excuses) Though there is actually hormonal changes, lots of purging, pain, and sometimes stains. How to embrace her new changes and adapt to them

AT THE NIGERIAN AIRPORT- FIRST TIME TRAVELLER
If you are travelling out of Nigeria for the first time, you need to avoid the trap I fell into. The strings of extortions and all that take place there is brazen and on another level - everyone wants to take his own "share" of what you have, since you have enough to leave the country.

In Sweden (Arland), your pal can be with you until you check in your luggage, then you hug and bid farewell before you head to the boarding point for other security checks. But in Abuja airport, your person is cut off before you check-in your luggage. I don't know any other reason for this if not for what happened to me.

I had heard they reject some food items you are travelling with, so I begged Dan, my guy, to take me to the airport and be with me until I board so if they reject anything, he would take it. Unfortunately, just before the check-in point, a uniformed person (I don't know what parastatal) asked who was travelling between us, and asked Dan not to go beyond that point.

Before we got there, customs had collected money from us, as if it was a mandatory contribution- they were even jostling for more as one said 'that one na for those people, give us awa own'. The check there was just cursory (or so I thought), one box was filled with food stuff and the other clothing, that was the first time I was leaving Nigeria ( October 2021).

When it was time to check my luggage, the young man scribbled something on a little piece of paper and sked me to go somewhere he pointed for payment for 'excess luggage' and 'extra luggage' (2 in 1). I asked how much that would be and he insisted that I would be informed when I get there. He warned that it wouldn't be small though.
,
When I got there, I was told my bill was N128,000. What! I rushed back to the boy and told him I didn't have that kind of money. Then he acted like he had a solution and told me to go buy 'ghana-must-go' bags to re-bag my stuff. I bought the bags for N2,000 each 'medium size'. I came back and he asked me to go re-bag them.

I stepped aside to do this. When I was done and came back, he said it was same and asked me to open up the box and move the things into the ghana-must-go bags, one by one. As I removed the items from here to there, he spotted and asked me to keep aside the packs of ground fish, ground beans, and two bottles of groundnut.

After packing and re-packing, he asked me to get yet another smaller ghana-must-go bag. When I went for this, one of the extortionists offered to help and took N2,500 and went and came back with a small bag saying the sellers had closed and he had to go down to get this one. After he handed it over, he disappeared. Time was ticking and it was getting closer to flight time, I was a little under pressure.

I came back to weigh the stuff again and he wrote the weights of everything on another piece of paper and asked me to go and pay at that same point. Nothing changed in the weight because we just re-weighed the same things minus the ones he wanted to steal. I proceeded to the pay point and they said my bill was N128,850. I was just angry and frustrated. I regretted making any move about the 're-bagging' in the first place.

I brought out my son's verve card to pay and they told me their POS was not working, that I would have to pay with cash. It was Turkish Airline. I asked where the ATM was and they asked me to go to one office to do a transfer and get cash. I went there and the man there said I would pay N12,800 for the cash. I left him immediately and headed for the ATM outside.

I got there and could only withdraw N100,000 (Verve daily limit). I begged a security man there so I could transfer money to his account and get the cash through him. He first announced that his account was in debit (which meant I would spend extra). Finally, I got the money with a 'sacrifice' on top.

I started racing back to pay and then proceed to check in. After checking, I headed to pick up my fish and beans and groundnut in anger. Lo and behold, the boy had closed and took my fish. If only he knew what my wife and mother went through to prep[are me for this trip, he would have avoided such evil. I took the beans and groundnut. But on a second thought, I dropped the beans because these would be in my backpack and could be mistaken as drug (so I thought, I no get strength for wahala). Even at the boarding point, the groundnut was taken away. Make dem enjoy!

What to do:
Check with the airline and know the weight you are entitled to. Make sure your big luggage don't exceed that (you might wanna buy a scale if you don't have one, not a bad investment if you are leaving it for someone behind to keep fit).

Secondly, get a small box, small enough to fit into the luggage compartment of the aircraft above your head, but big enough not to be a small one. This you can carry as a 'hand luggage'. Make sure the stuff in it should be just your clothes and personal effects. Keep it aside when checking in and don't let those hungry folks look at it twice.

All food items should be in the big boxes/bags checked in.

Another tip to add is, if you have a bag/box you are not sure of the keys or zip, to avoid someone sliding or taking something through, there is a section where they use waterproof machine to wrap your bags, 1k or 1.5k per bag or so. I did it for all my checked-in luggage, including the ghana-must-go. But I advise you avoid using ghana-must-go, you'll look like me arriving Europe when I did, I bet it was not posh at all. But the good thing for me was, I no send. But hey, you are not me. Plan from home and keep your cool.
Thank you very much.
This is very informative. Which airline is best to use?. I’m aware some flights leave from Lagos too, will do proper research

You will need some info about transportation, and accommodation- the two important things.

It's not unusual to think you are just a newcomer and thus it is ok to spend/waste money on certain things. But, if you learn to save that money from the onset and 'waste' when you are surer, e sweet pass.

For everyone, especially those travelling for the first time, I'll share my experiences so you avoid the extortions I faced at the airport. Here's my opinon,

I HIGHLY doubt you and your kids will be comfortable in a 6-bed hostel. Are they even aware of your kids? because that's 3 beds occupied which may mean more work for you.

but let's assume you go ahead with it. Imagine working 3 hours a day, shuffling with 2 kids and uni work as a new commer? that will be a nightmare. Moreover, you cannot use such housing to apply for your personal number. And the earlier you get your PN, the better because that's when your time in Sweden starts counting. So I advise you to keep searching for housing. Look on Facebook rental groups too, but beware of scams. Do not pay any holding deposit except you have someone in Sweden to view the place and verify its authenticity.

Bringing your kids or not doesn't matter. If you can bring them if you want to, or leave them with their father/close relative in Nigeria while you settle. That decision is up to you, based on your capability to handle stress.

Lastly, if you decide to go ahead with the hostel accommodation, make sure to get a contract and read the conditions thoroughly to know your rights/risks. You don't want a situation where you are kicked out for unforeseen reasons and you are stranded.

goodluck.

If you ask me, that's not any good deal. It simply means you working 3 hours per day to have a hostel accommodation. If you will be in stockholm, mba! Stop lying to her madam lawyer.

If her money is in the building, it will be liquidated and the proceeds will be shared accordingly.

The cost of the children's food, shelter, clothes and education will be borne by both parties (this might be very to enforce cos the man is not within the court's jurisdiction).
Have you handled divorce before?, or have you handled divorce where the woman supervised the building project?

Cost of children anything is borne by the man, and alimony will be paid to the woman since the man is the adulterous party. He is married, his wife will be sued as well as third party (adulteress)

From what you have said any way, I know you have never witnessed divorce, you are not a lawyer, you are not conversant with Matrimonial Act and Matrimonial Procedure Rules. And most of all, you are saying what you lack any iota of clue about.
