Politics › Kwara Governor To Clear Salary Backlog Before Implementing New Minimum Wage by highbee02(op): 9:45am On Jun 01, 2019

Date: 2019-06-01
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasak has said that his government is poised to clear salaries and pensions backlog before implementing the new minimum wage.
The Governor, who addressed civil servants in the state on Friday, stressed that his administration hopes to end the salary backlog and discuss with workers on best ways to address wage-related issues.
The problems are a lot, we cant resolve them in one, two, three, four months, but we need to start resolving them. Like the issues of salary; it has been brought to my attention that the May salary is still outstanding. That will be paid immediately.
You have to remember that some people are on half salary and they have not been paid. Some people have been promoted a few years ago and are still on the old salary scale.
Mr. Abdulrasak added that even after paying, the state cannot afford to pile a backlog of salaries.
The truth is that we want to get to a stage where there is no backlog of salaries and pension, thats where we are heading to now.
We need to clear this before coming to the issue of the minimum wage, which we also need to sit down and discuss because we cannot agree to pay and start backlog again. The intention is to pay; we got to the transition program and a lot of issues we have seen.

Health › Re: Sleeping Positions And Your Personality by highbee02: 12:33pm On May 28, 2019
Enixfashionhous:
We all know that sleep is necessary, in order for the body to get rest, and to be revitalized.
Your sleeping position says a lot about your personality and your worries. So lets take a look at the sleeping position that is best for you.

https://enix.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/sleep-types.gif

In the image above we have different sleeping positions...
We have the fetus position, log position, yearner position, soldier position, free faller position, starfish position.

Fetus Position
This position involves lying on your side with your knees drawn toward your chest and your chin tilted down. It's a popular sleeping position. It is also a preferred sleeping position for pregnant women and it reduces snoring. When you are sleeping in this position, you'll need a firm pillow because it causes pain on the neck and back.

Personality: They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax.

Log Position
When sleeping in this posture, you lie on your side with both arms positioned in a straight line. This position reduces snoring, and can prevent back and neck pain.

Personality: They are easy going and social. They tend to trust strangers and they like being part of the in-crowd.

Yearner Position
People that sleep in this position sleep on their side with both arms out in front. Research shows that people who sleep in this position have a low tendency of waking up in the middle of the night. It reduces heartburn and the risk of developing disorders.

Personality: They have an open nature, they are slow to make up their minds, but once they take a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.

Soldier Position
Reduces the proper flow of blood and puts pressure on the nerves, that eventually leads to pain in the shoulders and arms.

Personality: They are reserved and quiet. They also have high standards for themselves and others.

Free fall Position
Many sleep on their stomachs because they find it comfortable. This position is known to be associated with neck and shoulder pain. Some benefits of stomach sleeping are being able to breathe better and it helps digestion. This position should only be used, however, when you're sleeping directly on a mattress.

Personality: They are sociable and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don't like criticism, or extreme situations.

Starfish Position
In this position, a person lies on their back with their arms up on both sides of their head. This position creates strain in the lower back and hips. It also reduces the openness of the airway, which impacts breathing quality and can lead to restless sleep.

Personality: Starfish sleepers are described as good friends and great listeners. They love to help and generally do not like attention.

This is to say that your sleeping position tells who you are...

Ishilove:
This is a rather painful exercise. I first read about his demise on a now deleted thread in this section, but i dismissed it as a joke done in bad taste, so you cannot imagine how flabbergasted I was when i got the tragic confirmation here-
https://www.nairaland.com/5204257/kennedy-onoriode-ovabore-dies-after

I knew Hungerbad as Kenneth Marshal, not Kennedy Ovabore, but what is in a name?

He had his faults but he is human, just as the rest of us. Indegenous to Sapele, Delta state, he was a generous person who helped people a lot, and at one time was afraid of opening his mails because of the flood of financial requests always waiting for him.

Well, God knows best. Surely, God knows best. He will be fondly remembered by those whose life he touched.

I never imagined that I, of all people, will be the one to announce your death on Nairaland, Ken. Too bad.

Sleep well, soldier.
May God repose his soul and give the family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The moniker is a very popular one on this forum

Education › Re: Causes Of Suicide In Nigeria by highbee02: 12:15pm On May 22, 2019
asuustrike1:
All you wrote are not totally correct.
Point number one is not correct false preachers with false teachings have been there from immemorial
Point number two is partially correct
Point number three is not correct at all. Poisonous substances have been there before the thought of suicide became rampant and would remain so. Don't forget there are many ways to die aside poisonous substances.
These are some of the factors responsible for suicide in this part of the world
1. Pressure from the society: There certain things the society expect from you as a person. Many believe that as an adult above 25 years, you settle down and have kids (prevalent to the female sex). They believe that you must marry by fire by force without considering your happiness. You can imagine many Nigerians especially on this forum wandering why Banky's wife isn't pregnant?many of them are monitoring spirit especially on this forum.
2. Pressure from families: This is similar to point one. You have inlaws, brothers, sisters, father, mother and other relatives to deal with. These persons would pressurize you to take decision beyound your capacity,it goes beyound just getting married and having kids.
3. Media: Many persons are influenced by what they see on the media as buttressed by you but it goes social media. Do you know that the idea of committing suicide emanate from some of these movies we watch on tv? Many persons have been inspired by what they see hence then tend to copy them
4. Capacity: Someone mentioned on this forum that this generation can not absorbed pain and shock hence they result to suicide unlike in the 70's,80's and 90's when suicide seen as a tarboo. You see many persons committing suicide because of their lovers, failed attempt in exams etc. I think men and women in this platform that experienced worst scenario should share their experience here so that many should learn. Everyone has a story to tell. I put it to you that the owner of this platform and his moderators all have one or more stories to share.

Possible solution to this menance;
1. Reach to your friends, neighbours or relatives who are ready to listen to you
2. Have this thought that if Mr A would make it after several attempt then i will. If i fall seven times i would rise again (7up).
3. Ignore people that are not willigly to assist because an average human being is selfish except for few

Politics › Minimum Wage : TUC, FG Disagree Over The Implementation Of New Minimum Wage by highbee02(op): 5:26pm On May 18, 2019
The organized labour on Thursday threatened to drag the Federal Government to court if it continued to delay the implementation of the N30, 000 new minimum wage recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kwara State Comrade, Nasir Kolawole Olumo, handed down the warning in Ilorin while speaking at the quarterly seminar series organised by the Michael Imoudu National Institute For Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, had on inaugurated a committee to negotiate the consequential adjustment in salaries arising from the new national minimum wage. Mustapha, who inaugurated the committee in Abuja, said the gesture was in accordance with President Muhammadu Buhari's remarks at the signing of the new National Minimum Wage Act, 2019.
He said the president had said there would be the constitution of another committee to negotiate the issue of relativity over the new wage with relevant labour unions. Director General, MINILS, Alhaji Saliu Alabi had while responding to questions from participants at the seminar defended the federal government's wisdom to inaugurate the new negotiating committee.
He said the committee was necessary to harmonise the disparity in wages in different establishments and sectors. But Olumoh while making his remarks disagreed with the federal government's position describing it as "a delay tactics".
He said since the president had signed the new wage into law, with a promise to commence it implementation in May, there was no need for another committee. "This is going to be our cause of action in the next few days", he said.
Guest speaker at the seminar and representatives of the internal Labour Organisation (ILO) in Nigeria, David Dorkenoo, had in his presentation urged advocated for uphold the value of democratic culture.
In his paper titled "Building the Union for Tomorrow: Linking Education to Institutional Revitalisation", the ILO experts regretted that lack of "democratic culture", had been responsible for "weak trade" unions in Africa.
Dorkenoo, advocated for more participation of young ones and women in labour movement saying the future of labour movement and trade unions lees n the youths. His views was corroborated by the chairperson, Women Wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Hajia Asmau Apalando who advocated for more opportunities for women.
