Politics › Re: Tinubu To Wale Edun: Present New Minimum Wage Template In 48 Hours by HitRun(m): 10:00pm On Jun 04, 2024 |
madridguy: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu MUST ensure that never again under him will our National Grid be shut down! Shutting down National Grid is nobody's fundamental right! It is TREASON- Copied.
If Labour union and TUC want let them strike for 100 years, it is their right, but we that are not under the payroll of the FG should not be paying for their madness.
Now who will compensate people selling frozen food? Will Discos remove the 48 hours still counting from the bill they will issue to customers on postpaid meters? It is in Nigeria's interest to shut the grid down; else power equipment will be destroyed with nobody manning the monitors and controls. Mind you, the electricity workers monitoring and controlling the grid are by law required to comply with the strike, as they are members of an NLC/TUC affiliate union. But if you insist that the grid not be shut down, no wahala. However, don't cry when equipment gets damaged because there is nobody monitoring and controlling the grid during the strike. As for seeking compensation, it is going to be a convoluted argument because Discos can't provide power that they don't have. They get power from TCN. TCN shutdown because they suddenly lost their workers for no fault of theirs. Una go argue for court tire. |

StOla: I believe that grade is a political grade different from the regular grade 1 to 17.
I have a problem with the table you attached.
A grade 1 at N360k annual suggest it is N30k per month.
Is that not the current minimum wage of N30k?
Is that amount not just the basic salary, without the bonuses and allowances?
Can we have the actual data that shows the allowances like housing, vacation, feeding etc.
I know these civil servants like hiding these details.
A grade 17 step 9, earn more than this annual basic of N6.2m. You are just ignorant. |

seunayantokun: For you, it was a lie but for him it was true. If you have anyone living in the UK who has renewed their passport in the last 60 days, find out from them. Okay? I can assure you that all these things are just stories. The logistics of the renewal, and even new passports, have been improved no doubt. But see all these ‘you will get it in 1 week,’ ‘you will get it in 2 weeks,’ are just lies. Unless, of course, they ‘tipped’ someone. I renewed my passport recently, and after my biometric, they wrote on a slip of paper, IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, that I will receive my passport in the mail in 2 months. |

There is no instability. We just have poor leaders. There is a difference. Only crooks find ways to disrupt the system and violate the constitution. |

Just get your family a comfortable apartment in a small relatively cheap town and go about your hustling.

StOla: We cannot even afford to be depriving our own educational institutions of funds that we need to remain in Nigeria and grow our economy and education infrastructure.
Imagine $10,000 not being enough for US and UK tuition fees for a session, yet ordinary $1000 we do not even pay for tuition in Nigerian public schools.
Place an embargo on forex for education for 10yrs and charge properly for Nigerian education and, pay the lecturers well.
10yrs, we will turn the tide on our steady decline.
Anyone who wants to school abroad should go find work abroad and pay from that income.
Nigerian funds should stop subsiding education and providing infrastructure for UK, Canada and US. I find your last statement about Nigerian funds subsidizing education in the US, Canada, and UK funny. Let me just leave it at that. Even in the 70s and 80s when our tertiary education was still good, people were going to school abroad. Infact, at that time, most people were going on government funds unlike now where most people are going on private funds. If there is forex shortage, don’t blame the people needing forex to live their life, blame the people mismanaging the economy. |

blowjohn: No nah. U can be powerful and not move or operate like the deep state. It's like the mafia. They can be violent, secretive etc. They can do many illegal things deliberately at the detriment of the citizens e.g drugs, prostitution rings, killer squads etc. because they want to control vast interests.
The government on the other hand in a democratic setting follows the Constitution.
Both sides can always be brought down by a strong institution like the courts in a country built on non ambiguous laws. (Watergate scandal, Clinton scandal, Trump scandals) etc
If the deep state were too powerful, even Trump won't win a single case cos they wud be able to influence the courts.
Even for naija, there are very few people that can mess with the deep state (cabals in this case).
And it's usually by starving them of their sources of money and power.
So in summary, u can be the president and yet still fear certain circles of people.
And u can be the president and be able to deal with them, depending on ur inner circle. But it still doesn't make u the deep state cos u don't subscribe to their methods of power and survival. All powerful people are the same, powerful. My point is, there is nothing like deep state powerful and non-deep state powerful. They are all the same. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump Says He'd ‘encourage’ Russia To Attack NATO Allies Who Don’t Pay Up Enough by HitRun(m): 10:45pm On Feb 12, 2024 |
blowjohn: Ur not entirely correct. Trump cud have come into power via some other powerful blocs. That doesn't mean it was the deep state.
His(Trump's) backup may be strong, but not as strong as the deep state and certainly not as dangerous as the deep state.
Again for a country like America where there are strong institutions, even the deep state has its limits cos of the courts and independency of many other groups.
I agree there are pro government deep state(where of cos they have been able to install their puppet as president) and anti government deep state where the president isn't in alignment with their doings. How can you be powerful and not 'deep state'? See what I am saying - the idea that there is a deep state when it comes to other presidents, but no deep state when it is Trump - the bias is all too evident to see. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump Says He'd ‘encourage’ Russia To Attack NATO Allies Who Don’t Pay Up Enough by HitRun(m): 8:42pm On Feb 12, 2024 |
blowjohn: Men them. People who control power, businesses by any means legal or illegal.
U gotta be tough to go against them like Trump did during his first tenure.
A deep state is a type of governance made up of potentially secret and unauthorized networks of power operating independently of a state's political leadership in pursuit of their own agenda and goals. In popular usage, the term carries overwhelmingly negative connotations. Based on your answer, every government has its version of the deep state. You don't think trump came to power without the support of some non-government actors who supported him just to further their own 'selfish' interest? Now, with a democrat in power, if Biden's policies do not favor those people and their agenda, they automatically become 'a deep state' against the government, just like there were some democratic leaning 'deep state' against Trump's government when he was in power. The reason I am pointing this out is because I have seen commentaries on Nairaland and elsewhere trying to portray this 'deep state' as something that is only opposed to a government, making reference to Trump's time in power. At every time, T, there are pro-government 'deep state' and anti-government 'deep state'. Every government fights with the anti-government 'deep state'. It has nothing to do with being tough or not; It is just the way it is. |
