NYSCRe: SISTIE: 1 Year Internship Before NYSC For Nigerian Engineering Students by Hndholder(op): 10:22am On Jul 27, 2006
The students do not think it is their duty to find COREN/ NSE not until when is time for JOB. They are all looking for money in place of their carrier, they prefer ICAN to COREN so we can not force them, but to enforce the COREN law.

COREN ASSY is going on now at ABUJA 25-26 July 2006. Last year 20-21 Sept. 2005 "The Assembly invited all stakeholders in engineering education, training and practice to embrace and invest in the Supervised Industrial Training Scheme in Engineering (SITSIE) for technology transfer and experience development. SITSIE Certification will form the final clearance for engineering personnel to enlist for the NYSC while the SITSIE and NYSC years count as experience for the Engineering Personnel."

Yes and NO yes in that I am the Deputy National President of NITE, Member of NSE and COREN Registered
Coren is made up of NSE,NITE,NISET, NAEC and ASCEN ( www.corenng.org) I was in COREN COMMITTEE for some years.

COREN DECREE

COREN is empowered by Decrees, No 55, 1970 and No 27, 1992 (Amendment) to accredit training institutions and regulate the practice of engineers, technologists, technicians and craftsmen in Nigeria.

By these decrees, it is illegal for the following to practice or be employed, except for the purpose of training and apprenticeship, without being registered by COREN:

Engineers

Engineering Technologists

Engineering Technicians

Engineering Craftsmen and

Engineering Consulting Firms

Anybody corporate or individual employer who engages the services of unregistered engineering personnel or consulting firms commits an offence against the law of the land as stipulated in clause 13(6), page 14 of the COREN Decrees.

Engineering Regulations Monitoring (ERM) inspectors have been appointed all over Nigeria to fish out offenders.

No Engineers are not lazy o. But they are designers, I am still looking for what Nigerian enginees design in world market.

It is Engineering and Technology. They took Engineering while we pick the TECHNOLOGY.

So Engineering is OLD SCHOOL the latest is Science and Technology. That is what went wrong with them. Nigerian Engineers Syllabi is too OLD

What of if we beg Seun to assist us by creating  a single thread for all HND talks, or permit us to collect HND names using Nairaland. Still we could be Nairaland HND Agenda Group. What do you think.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by Hndholder(m): 12:18pm On Jul 21, 2006
All HND holders should submit to reality on the ground, then we will fight with one voice. Identify yourself with HND.
CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by Hndholder(m): 12:11pm On Jul 21, 2006

The problem started when the polytechnic courses became branded with the titile technology.
CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by Hndholder(m): 2:50pm On Jul 20, 2006

CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by Hndholder(m): 9:08am On Jul 20, 2006
Love meeting you too.
Let us forget about Masters degree. Student enter Polytechnic with 4 credit to read a 2 Years ND, the middle level man power,Full Stop.

It is not compulsory for them to go for HND. HND is not met for academic minded people, but production/ technological.

If he like at his own risk he can apply for HND at any polytechnic not necessary his former school.

With (4credit) + (ND) + (at least 1year experience)=HND

If you now want a PROFESSIONAL master degree you now apply to any school that run such MBA ,MSc Professional

or PGD to change to academic masters.

We are just wasting energy here. What is the work of HND holder as a secondary school teacher? HND Engineering in a Bank , Why do we need masters degree. Of what use is most MASTERS
DIPLOMA is a professional certificate.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by Hndholder(m): 4:56pm On Jul 19, 2006
You are wrong, even with Degree you must do PGD to move to other courses in other faculty. Not untill technology is be run as a degree can Diplomate get degree without PGD

With HND now you can have professional master direct.
CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by Hndholder(m): 4:47pm On Jul 19, 2006

Kaduna polytechnic started with PG now more polytechnics are doing just that now including poly ibadan. ABU Zaria admitted PGD run in the polytechnic for its masters program then PhD. Note that Polytechnic mandate is ND primarily.

Can the other professionals go to hell?
''Most of the professionals leaving the country would not have been absorbed into the nation’s already congested and stagnant labour market had they remained in the country. Today, in Nigeria, medical interns wait several months to get placements for housemanship and residency.'' www.tribune.com.ng/10052006/edit.html
CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by Hndholder(m): 12:15pm On Jul 19, 2006
I will not go to hell, I refuse it in OBJ'S name

Lazy Polytechnic product can go to Hell any way. Degree holders are also in the same unemployment. Doctors too can not have a place any more for house-manship. just odinary IT now so difficult.

''THE age-long difference on parity between graduates of the university and their polytechnic counterparts was finally laid to rest this year by the federal government when a bill was passed into law to bridge the gap. Higher National Diploma (HND) holders heaved a sigh of relief by this proclamation from the federal government through the National Assembly. Kudos to President Obasanjo. But in actual sense , can we equate products from these two institutions? It is pertinent to note that while the university is a research institute, the polytechnic is a citadel of technical innovation'' http://www.tribune.com.ng/23052006/letter.html

Why FG removes ceiling on HND graduates
HASSAN IBRAHIM, Kaduna - 22.05.2006
http://www.tribune.com.ng/22052006/news/news6.html

THE removal of the ceiling placed on career progression of Higher National Diploma (HND) holders is a clear indication that the Obasanjo administration takes technical education with seriousness, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Engineer (Dr.) Nuru Yakubu, has said.

He spoke in Kaduna during the submission of the reports of the committee on modalities for the removal of the ceiling placed on HND holders at the NBTE headquarters. Before, HND holders could not exceed Level 14 in the civil service, but President Olusegun Obasanjo issued a presidential directive on January 5 that the ceiling placed on their career progression be removed.

According to Dr. Yakubu, this would give those with HND certificates the chance to compete with degree holders even at the labour market where the disparity had been posing a great threat to them. He commended the Federal Government for the removal of the ceiling, adding that Nigeria was the only country where HND holders were discriminated upon.

Chairman of the 17-member committee, Engineer Ahmed Rufai, had earlier blamed successive governments who failed to underscore the relevance of monotechnic/polytechnic systems through appropriate recognition of their status. “Even when the mandate of polytechnics were reviewed to include offering HND and curricula upgraded, government failed to make commensurate review of relevant statues, policies and laws to reflect the new reality and opportunities for HND holders”, he said.

He suggested that HND should be termed high level manpower while ND should remain the certificate of middle level manpower, and urged that admission requirements and entrance examination into polytechnics and universities should be harmonised.

“The strategy for the survival of the Nigerian industry and economic growth must be aimed at the production of adequate and qualitative manpower from both the polytechnics/monotechnics and the university system. In addition, improvement on industrial development and economic growth will depend on the removal of all elements of distortion, such as the ceiling on career progression of HND holders”, he said.

Engineer Rufai said there should be improvement in the funding of the polytechnics to underscore the premium placed on technology as the cornerstone of industrial development, adding that the report would be submitted to the office of the Head of Service of the Federation as well as the Federal Ministry of Education.
