@ Gooners Please read through this. The writer made a lot of sense. When England's form is bad, the heaviest portion of blame is placed on the Premier League's legion of foreign players. It is they, according to men like Sir Trevor Brooking, David Pleat, David Gold and Steve Gibson (along with countless pundits and fans), who must shoulder the responsibility for the national team's poor results. And, needing a figurehead on which to cast their aspersion, Arsene Wenger is the name most often trotted out as the reason for England's form. Were this a view that remained consistent in good times as well as bad, one might be expected to give it credence. Sadly, this is not the case. When a run of good form occurs--and with largely the same team as the one supposedly compromised by foreign players--the responsibility shifts inexplicably to England's players and their manager. I say 'inexplicably', but in reality this shift in the minds of English fans, pundits and hallowed officers of our game can be quite readily explained by a form of cowardice known as scapegoating. It is cowardly because it is characterised by a fear of taking responsibility for one's actions; instead of admitting a fault and taking measures to fix it, blame is cast on those who, in most cases, least deserve it. In this case, statistics prove that the influx of foreigners in English top-flight football over the past twenty years has had only a positive impact (if any at all) on the results and world ranking of the national team when compared to the overall performance of England in competitions throughout its history. Cowardice turns to shame when this same scapegoating turns into blatant opportunism--that is, when those responsible for poor results are suddenly cast aside and replaced when results are favourable. Children do this sort of thing all the time, gladly taking responsibility for things that elicit praise, only to disavow the very same thing if or when praise turns to blame. Imagine you worked as an architect, for example, and were treated in a similar manner. So, when one of your designs failed to impress, you were made to shoulder most if not all of the blame, but when one of your designs won an award and was praised up and down the country for its vision and promise, your boss took all the credit. Doesn't sound fair, does it? Yet this is exactly what we do with England and the foreigners who play in our league. Today, the talk is all about Rooney and Gerrard. A year ago, with largely the same group of players, the talk was all about Wenger and his legion of foreigners. A year from now, should a poor run of form occur, we all know where the accusations will return. |
darefestus:This is unprecedented. Sometimes I wonder whether foetus thinks before writing .I can imagine myself writing on the manc thread. "Welcome to the manure thread!!! Myself2, I agree 100% with you. Foetus is a/an ____________________(Fill in the gap) |
Raimond:LMAO ![]() |
@ Cesc 04 No doubt, Everton is a decent side. They are well organised under the tutelage of Moyes. It's the boldness with which Moyes is saying he's coming to the Emirates to nick a win. Like I said, I can't blame him, its the Hull debacle that caused all this. ![]() I raelly think we should win on Saturday. They(Everton) haven't been defending well this season and A.Johnson who used to really give our defence problems in the past is no more around. Saha hasn't really played enough games to get into the groove. I can imagine if Silvestre should play this weekend and he's defending a corner kick marking Saha. ![]() Two former devils now playing for two different enemies!!!! |
Cesc04:Without mincing words,It will rank amongst the best goals I have ever seen. Super stuff. I don't think Sagna would be out for long. He could even be in contention for Saturday's match. Meanwhile, after David Moyes signed a new contract for Everton, He was quoted as saying he hopes to celebrate it with a victory over Arsenal at the Emirates ![]() I can't blame him. The thinking now is that if Hull can do it, why not Everton ? ![]() Crazy. Everton looking for a win at the Emirates!!!?? ![]() |
Have u ever heard of "Catenaccio"?? Go to google and read about it. Man Utd were very comfortable to cede possession to Barca because Ferguson knows they lack BITE in their attack. Messi was allowed to do whatever he feels like doing but as soon as they get into United's danger area, they get stopped!!! It kept happening again and again. . . . . .This has nuthing to do with Messi messing Evra or what not. THAT WAS THE GAME PLAN.
@ Sauron, You make me laugh ![]() You won't have been talking Catenaccio(even the italians are slowly abandoning it) if TH14 had kept his cool in the latter stages of the game and scored or Frank Rijkaard had got his tactics right that night. There was no game plan. Fergie has never been an apostle of Catenaccio(He's a Scot not a pizza loving Italian ).Barca had Manure on the backfoot for 180 minutes. The match would have been dragged to penalties if not for Scholesy |
Emperoh:@ Emperoh I am not arguing that Evra is an outstanding left back. At Nou Camp,Messi 'messed' him up and at OT, Messi was not kept quiet at all. In fact the entire manure back 4 did 'overtime' that night. However there was no end product for Barca and a solitary goal by Scholesy booked manure's place in the final. |
Adebayor all the way. Outstanding season/year for both club and country!!! |
darefestus:Not surprising. It's well known that your opinion sucks!!! ![]() |
darefestus:and this same Gael Clichy was voted the best left back in the premiership just last season(07/08) by his fellow professionals ![]() |
Akolawole:I have been a footie follower for a while now!!! ![]() Naija football homefront was interesting back in the days. I was a fanatical 'Sooting star' follower and of course remember most of the stars. |
Emperoh:While I agree that Evra's better than Lahm, I disagree with the highlighted. Go and watch the duel at the Nou Camp again. |
How serious is Gallas's and RVP's injury? i guess we can only hope its not that serious because our thin squad will be hard-pressed to cope with such injury to key personnel
From Int'l news coming in, RVP's injury isn't that serious as he is in contention for tomorrow's (or is it today) match against Norway Gallas' own will keep him out of tonight's friendly with Tunisia. |
You are just an attention-seeking nitwit.Henry is a mediocre according to your jaundiced reasoning abi?Arguably the best foreigner to ever play in the EPL You must have cobwebs for brains
@A-40,IMO,I think he's the best to have ever graced the Premiership. @Darefestus. Start with us today.!!!!! please. We are waiting for u. You can't keep writing drivel on this thread and we'll be stomaching your inanity. Whenever u spit nonsense on this thread, we drive you away. But Alas, like a stubborn creature, you keep returning!!!!! |
@Darefestus Why do you exhibit your high level of idiocy at every given opportunity? Must you always bring Arsenal into everything ![]() Henry is mediocre ![]() I am sorry, but your case may not be physical anymore. |
Really,Emperoh and Cristalz, Caution Darefestus. He started this Theo this Theo that stuff. Y'all can't compare Kazhakstan(not even sure of the spelling) and Croatia. Just imagine. If Croatia had beaten or drawn with England,it won't be counted so much as an upset, but what if Kazhakstan had drawn or beaten England,Capello couldn't have been sacked and maybe the players would have ben assaulted. I couldn't even pick out one known name in the Kazakhstan team!!!!! |
darefestus:@ Dare Walcott was the only good English player in the 1st half. The rest didn'y do anything. Meanwhile remember what AW said after the hat trick against Croatia. It was a once in a blue moon occurence. He may never even score a hat trick for England EVER again. Theo's maturing fast and becoming an integral part of the english set up. |
Did u see his error?? England weren't playing too well. . . . .Fans were getting frustrated. Then came 2 goals(one from Rio and the other was an own goal) and things were getting easier then pbbbbbbbbbbbt, Ashley goofed!!! He handed the Kazakhs the initiative and verve to attack when they should be back-pedalling. Ashley was under no pressure and he just gave the ball to the Kazakh attacker like he was being paid. If i were Capello, i would investigate Cashley's bank accounts. . . .I think he was paid to do that. He should never wear the 3 LIONS shirt again. . . . . .
LMAO at the highlighted.Who knows? Greedy Cashley may have had a meeting with a betting syndicate at a London restaurant He will go and pick up his share later on in the week ![]() |
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL 2-0. Was that Rooney's head or an own goal?? Ashley Cole have given Kazakhstan a free goal. . . . . A stupid backpass and the Kazakhs took advantage. Where is this Ashley Cole from?? A player of his quality should know better. Jeeeeeeez. . . . . . . Has Walcott made a successful pass all day?? ######Wembley is booing Ashley Cole###### I like that. 2-1.
i disagree with you. As much as I dislike Cashley, It's a disgrace for wembley to be boing their own player. |
I thoght Lagos fans were horibble. ENGLAND FANS ARE BOOING CASHLEY. TOTALLY PATHETIC AND DISGRACEFUL |
Is anyone watching the England game ??OMG Cashley is from Kazhakstan. ![]() |
Did anyone see that run from TT? |
game over. Osaze scores. 3-1 No way back for Sierra Leone |
I am thinking WTF When last did a Nigerian score an own goal? That was poor from both CBs Goooooaaaaaaaaaal Nsofor 2-1 |
Is the credit crunch affecting Nigeria also. ![]() Damn. That Stadium is empty!!!!!!!!! |
Christian Obodo drives Nigeria ahead. 1-0 to Nigeria |
mukina2:Yep. Guess he's living a much quiet life in Barcelona away from the noisy and chaotic London ![]() |
Tevez is better than Hleb. The first time i saw Hleb, i swear i thunk he was about 45 years of age!!! How can someone that young look so frail??
Sauron, You are very funny ![]() Be true to yourself. I ain't talking about soccer skills here I am talking about looks. If you were a chic, Who would you go out on a date with ?Tevez or Hleb?. |
Eh, anyone has got Tevez's photograph?? ![]() Talking about the GRANDMASTER ![]() |
Congrats to Big Tony Adams. An Arsenal legend he will always be! He's the only english player to have captained a title winning side in 3 different decades. Hopefully, he will return one day to manage the Arsenal!!! |
