Has the problem of Nigeria been the age that is expected to run? Since 1999, none of our Presidents is younger than 50 years yet the minimum age to run had been 40. How do we then believe that by mere signing a paper, that will now make a 35 year old to become President. Are there incentives for young people? Why don't we have a cap on the age that should run, say between 35 and 50 for instance, that way, we make the opportunity more enticing. Congrats to the 35 year old people who have been given automatic tickets to become President of the country. |

Lilisticlili: This trend has been going on for years in Catholic churches but one can only look aside on any thing pertaining Roman catholic idealogies of their long aged magnitude of haphazard kind of worship. But recently Redeemed churches too joined the age lond trend and the occassion is a sight to behold seeing different people with cultural attires displaying all manner of antics in church. A man even demonstrated some usage of charms and herbs on stage citing it as a cultural believe before christianity and at the end cultural dance was exhibited by various groups.
My question is,"where has some of these churches lost it? What exactly do you mean by 'haphazard kind of worship'. You could have still made your point without bringing this angle to it. |

TV/Movies › Re: Crowd Waiting For BBNaija 2018 Finalists At The Airport by Holak: 9:45am On Apr 24, 2018 |
I actually have a serious issue with the way Nigerians reason. So, we are now justifying PMB's statement that Nigerian Youths are lazy simply because some people have a different view of a programme from us and have decided to use that for recreation. number one wrong assumption is to thinks that anybody in that airport is jobless. It doesn't have to be. Everyday people world over troop out either in the stadium or viewing centres to watch 22 young people playing around a round leather object. To some people, football fanatics are just irresponsible people because they dont understand why people should indulge themselves in a game where they gain nothing - I mean nothing.
PMB spoke about lazy Nigerian youth in UK. It is instructive to note that Big Brother as a concept originated from Europe and America and their youth watch and also follow their candidates in the house. In the same UK, government starts to take care of her citizens once they turn 18. Provide housing, clothing, health care and monthly stipends. In these countries, the Youth practically do not want to work and live off government, yest their leaders have not branded them lazy. Let us not give our leaders excuses to justify their irresponsible stance on youth empowerment because some people decided to indulge in their own way. All of us have ways of indulging. If you say Big Borther does not promote education, what does football promote, what does Rihanna and Beyonce whom we are fans of, promote? All men according to their hearts. The fact that the programme is allowed to air on national TV means they did not break the law and as long as Nigeria is a secular state, morality is within the ambits of the secular law not on your own religious beliefs.
Finally, Big Brother has come to an end. The companies involved have made the money. These companies are employers of labour and some Nigerian Youths are working there. If big brother will air next year, some people will make money from it, some will spend money to support it, some will jostle to be housemates, some will succeed while others will not, some housemates will be evicted while one or some will win, many people will watch and vote while others will indulge in other TV stations like Telemundo, E!, Sports channels or even CNN. At the end of the day, it is a free world - One man's meat is another man's poison. The problem is when you want your meat to become meat to everybody or your poison to become poison to all. |

YoursGEJ: NLC should join hands with this government to move Nigeria forward. Fuel subsidy must go and it is only fair that the minimum wage be upwardly reviewed.
For those asking why we opposed subsidy removal under GEJ. What did he do with the $100/barrel revenue Nigeria was getting from crude oil sales? $60bn foreign reserves, $3 billion ECA, etc were squandered and they still wanted the small subsidy we were enjoying. Subsidy has been corruption-ridden from the get go but Jonathan was not the person to make good use of the funds to be saved from subsidy removal. What did he do with the SURE-P funds? Where are the buses and stoves he promised as palliatives? Looking at Dasukigate, etc why should I trust Jonathan with subsidy removal? Buhari has the integrity to make proper use of those funds. Well meaning Nigerians know this and that's why there is a reluctance to go on strike by many groups. Compare this response with the massive turnout that greeted Jonathan's subsidy removal in 2012. Nigerians are not fools Mr. Man, you are standing logic on its face. Jonathan's subsidy was not opposed because of the points you raised above. In January 2012, Jonathan was barely 7 months in power, how come you had already by then you had started asking question on what he did with $100 crude price but you are telling us today that one year is too short to judge a government. Nigerians don't want to participate in the strike because they have lost hope in both government and labour. Besides, the hardship is too much that people can't afford to stay in their homes for a day without looking for what to eat not because they trust your foolish Buhari or APC government. There is no explanation for those who opposed subsidy in 2012 and are supporting it now. It is all politics. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Catholic Bishops Attack Father Mbaka For Anti-jonathan Prophecies. by Holak: 6:59am On Feb 15, 2016 |
lastpage: One of the reasons given by the Catholic heirachy and those in favor of discipling Fr. Mbaka is that "their church does not interfere in politics and their pastors should be apolitical, hence the need to sanction Fr. Mabaka. This is utter rubbish!
God, throughout the Bible, uses Prophet to pass messages to "Political Rulers and Kings". As a matter of fact, prophets like Samuel, were "king makers" who selected King Saul, King David, e.t.c These Prophets were also used to admonish "political rulers", like when King David coveted the wife of Uriah and Prophet Natan was sent to him, to admonish him, deliver God's judgement to him (just like Fr. Mbaka delivered God's judgement to Ex-President Jonathan).
So, it is a blatant lie and hypocrisy, to say men of God cannot "intervene" in politics or deliver God's revelation to the political leaders. Interestingly, if you read the statement of another priest, bishop Onaiyekan, (quoted above) who has been the Bishop of Abuja dioceses since the days of Obasanjo's Presidency, almost 16years ago, one would see that he was doing exactly the same thing that the Catholic heirachy is using as an "excuse", to sanction Fr. Mbaka! ...... dabbling into political terrain, advising Govt and asking the church to "partner' with the Govt to ensure a better country! Will they now transfer Bishop Onaiyekan to a "smaller parish"? will they uproot him suddenly from his parish, on the excuse that "transfer is a normal routine"? I guess they wont! I guess they cant
Every reason they have tried to put forward, to justify their "human failings", since it is obvious majority of them want President Jonathan to rule for another 4years, irrespective of his performance level .....("na our Brother syndrome" and a minority of them are just simply jealous of the "public love and reverence" that Fr. Mbaka now enjoys, through no fault of his own (maybe they should blame God that chose to give Fr. Mbaka the prophecy and not people like bishop Ajakaiye!) ..... has fallen flat on its face and shown that afterall, these catholic Bishops/priests are "Humans and Nigerians", partisan like everyone of us and subjected to the same human emotions and failings!
The heirachy of the Catholic Church in Nigeria should do the honorable thing: Apologize to Fr. Mbaka as a sign of meekness and respect to the holy spirit, put him back in his station and pray that God continues to use "one of them" to move is ministry forward.
But then, Pride is one of the "cardinal sins" of temporal beings and l am sure, like King Pharaoh, the catholic heirachy cannot and may not be able to humble itself to doing what is right is the sight of God.
But let them make no mistake about it, God is able to preserve its own, even if Fr. Mabka were de-robed today, it does not mean the end of his Ministry or God's association with him.....rather the beginning of greatre things to come.
Lastpage! I would assume that with this so much hatred you have for the Catholic church, you could do well not to comment on their affairs. Fr. Mbaka is still a Priest of the Catholic church, so what is your business here? Why don't you concentrate on your 'holy' church that does no wrong and is perfect. You are giving the Catholic church so much credit by your comments. |

Too much hullabaloo about Catholics and images. We may never reach a conclusion but one thing is that there is so much hipocrisy in Nigeria especially among pentecostals (sorry to say this). When you go through this post and see uncomplimentary remarks about other faiths, you begin to wonder whether people who do this are actually doing God's bidding. They have become God to condemn the Catholic church, they have judged all the catholics and proclaimed them damned. There will always be arguments about the finite details of religion and both sides will have proof to back up their argument as has been laid down here. It goes to show that even God may eventually not be interested in those finite details. God will not condemn all the Catholics because they erect images or will sanction all pentecostals because they do not. Even among the pentecostals, do they hold the same belief in all practices? The answer is no. Which is even why there are numerous ministries and churches within the pentecostal domain. But talk about the Catholics, everybody jumps out to condemn and declare them idol worshippers. Those who do this have very limited knowledge of the Catholic church and the people therein, they may have just read a few chapters of the Bible and feel they are qualified to condemn the Catholic church. These people do not manifest any fruit of the spirit in their life or could be recognized as Christians wherever they are but they are righteous simply because they attend a pentecostal church. They are still the people taking bribes in the office, having concubines, telling lies to deceive the public but the erection of a statue to them is the most important yardstick for judging a religion. I believe that if we can preach love above all things which was Christ's message, the different practices (which all religions are guilty of) become less important. Love will ensure that we treat people fairly. It will ensure that people don't embezzle public fund meant for everybody. It will ensure people don't kill, defraud or steal from one another. It will ensure the society behaves the way God plans for it and I believe that was the essence that Christ died for. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is That Really Jesus? By Reno Omokri by Holak: 8:14am On Jan 04, 2016 |
smogup: People who oppose religious statuary forget about the many passages where the Lord commands the making of statues. For example: "And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two gold statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be" (Ex. 25:18–20). David gave Solomon the plan "for the altar of incense made of refined gold, and its weight; also his plan for the golden chariot of the cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. All this he made clear by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all, all the work to be done according to the plan" (1 Chr. 28:18–19). David’s plan for the temple, which the biblical author tells us was "by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all," included statues of angels. Similarly Ezekiel 41:17–18 describes graven (carved) images in the idealized temple he was shown in a vision, for he writes, "On the walls round about in the inner room and [on] the nave were carved likenesses of cherubim." The Religious Uses of Images During a plague of serpents sent to punish the Israelites during the exodus, God told Moses to "make [a statue of] a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live" (Num. 21:8–9). One had to look at the bronze statue of the serpent to be healed, which shows that statues could be used ritually, not merely as religious decorations. Catholics use statues, paintings, and other artistic devices to recall the person or thing depicted. Just as it helps to remember one’s mother by looking at her photograph, so it helps to recall the example of the saints by looking at pictures of them. Catholics also use statues as teaching tools. In the early Church they were especially useful for the instruction of the illiterate. Many Protestants have pictures of Jesus and other Bible pictures in Sunday school for teaching children. Catholics also use statues to commemorate certain people and events, much as Protestant churches have three-dimensional nativity scenes at Christmas. If one measured Protestants by the same rule, then by using these "graven" images, they would be practicing the "idolatry" of which they accuse Catholics. But there’s no idolatry going on in these situations. God forbids the worship of images as gods, but he doesn’t ban the making of images. If he had, religious movies, videos, photographs, paintings, and all similar things would be banned. But, as the case of the bronze serpent shows, God does not even forbid the ritual use of religious images. It is when people begin to adore a statue as a god that the Lord becomes angry. Thus when people did start to worship the bronze serpent as a snake-god (whom they named "Nehushtan" , the righteous king Hezekiah had it destroyed (2 Kgs. 18:4). Thank you for this. There is so much hipocrisy in Pentecostalism! |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Won’t Release 2 Detainees Despite Court Orders. Washington Post. by Holak: 6:43pm On Dec 31, 2015 |
lastmanstandn: Buhari, Our National Interest and Court Orders A step below President Buhari's present level of high-handedness only brings us back to the era of impunity that we voted Jonathan out for. Nigerians are very forgetful of the past. Nigeria, under the watch of the Fmr President, could not successful keep terror suspects in custody because prosecutors failed to prepare a case. We had a system where court orders and injunctions stalled corruption cases and made a mockery of our fight to defeat corruption and insecurity across the country. This time, we have an executive that is willing to stretch its constitutional powers to keep Nigeria safe and recoup stolen fund, yet we're starting to paint the President as a dictator.
Kanu is a threat to our national security. In advanced societies, suspects are detained for issues as trivial as traffic offence to keep them in custody while a stronger case is put together, why must Nigeria be different? Societies with strong intelligence communities engage whatever means is takes to keep terrorists and extremists out of circulation, must ours be different? Indeed, there are global concerns with regards to ethical issues in national security and intelligence activities of nations; developing countries should not be singled out as if we are the only ones involved in such. Indeed, the primary responsibility of government is to ensure its people live neither in fear of terrorism, external aggression nor poverty and other factors that undermine their peace and safety while it also sustains the fundamental rights of its people. However, many advanced nations have passed through periods of national crisis when liberties were exchanged for greater security, the balance between both being restored after such crisis, and Nigeria is at that point right now.
Within the last 10-15 years, advanced nations have defied international charters against enhanced interrogation techniques, illegal rendition, detention without trial and all sort of measures all for the sake of national security. We have not resorted to this yet you're starting to paint us as bad. We have not rendered our terror suspects to Niger, as you did render yours to Egypt for torture, we have not built illegal detention facilities in Chad, as you've done in Cuba, Kanu has not accused our security agents of subjecting him to waterboarding as you've done to many of yours, so what is the fury about? We understand you did what was necessary for the safety of innocent people, just as President Buhari is doing the same. Nnamdi Kanu's illegal entrance into the country with equipment for the purpose of undermining our national security is enough to get us worried, and get a responsible President to act.
On the NIMASA ex-DG and Arms thieves, I doubt if there is any law in Nigeria or anywhere in the world that restrains the authorities from re-arresting a suspect on different charges after he/she has been granted bail on others. Hence, we do not have to blame the President for identifying measures within our laws to use against corrupt public office holders just to keep them from jumping bail. We had a soft-spoken, gentle-looking President whose lame duck attitude cost us $2.1 billion meant for the war on terror and drove us where we are today, but we have moved on. Now we have a stronger, more willing leader in President Buhari and the best we can do is support him to do whatever is right and just to keep us on the path of prosperity and security again.
As Nigerians we must understand that security is a collective task that requires the mutual cooperation of every citizen, and the understanding that our liberties will not be compromised as long as we remain law abiding and do not act in ways that endanger others, as Dasuki Sambo and his partners are alleged to have done to our soldiers and our countrymen up North. We need to understand that a man that literally sneaked into the country using unconventional methods can sneak out using same methods; that we lack the intelligence capability to keep tabs on all suspects, and just like in past cases, corrupt public office holders may escape justice by choosing not to return to Nigeria if they are allowed to pursue whatever medical excuses abroad and extradition is not as easy as it appears. We are protected as law-abiding citizens, and we have in President Buhari what we have always desired, a strong man with great political will to frustrate corrupt public office holders, a step below President Buhari's present level of high-handedness only brings us back to the era of impunity.
@ijigbami In other words, it is okay to disregard the Constitution provided you feel you are doing the country good. |

A cover up speaks of blackmail or an attempt to hide truth especially if the truth is damning enough for u to want to part with a 600m house or 240m in order to hide it My question is: What is this news that only Linda knew and was paid N240m to cover? If the Olunloyo woman knew the story, why didn't she herself publish it since she is a blogger as well? Or should we also assume that she collected N240m. naijadeyhia: Professional journalism is seriously lacking in this country and this is why Sahara reporters are not appreciated because they dare to bare it all. That is investigative journalism and that is how it ought to be. So if this other blogger has access to the truth about Linda and her proceeds from the past government she shouldn't say it because some may misconstrue it as her being envious? What if the 240m she received in order to cover up a story was for a murder or an election rigging story or some truth touching on Jonathan.
Anything that would make anyone part with 240m or a 600m naira house in order to shut someone up has some deep deep crimes to hide and the one who received it knowing why it was given is as guilty as the giver And you have believed the woman simply because she said it? Professional journalism is not the same as blackmail. You need to provide facts. Her tweets even lack basic logic of arguments. She admitted Linda makes N360 m a year and still doubts she cannot buy a house of 560m. With that kind of yearly income, you only need 2 years to buy a mansion of 560m. So there is no professionalism in that journalism. |
