SportsAdamu: Politicians Influence Team Selection by honeric01(mod): 10:51am On Aug 14, 2010
Amos Adamu claims that politicians insisting in influencing team selection is one of the major causes of the slump in Nigeria's football fortunes.

"We get letters from various ministers, senators, Governors, House of Representative members pleading that we should allow certain players into the national team, and we cannot reject them.

"But when such teams fail, the blame always came to us as the sports administrators," Adamu told an inquiry set up by Nigeria's Parliament in the wake of the Super Eagles' disappointing World Cup performance.

He also accused government officials of "interfering in the administration of the game in the country".

On the more immediate issue of Nigeria's World Cup debacle, Adamu pointed to the change in coaching personnel.

"The sudden pressure on the football body in country to change the technical crew of the Super Eagles was another problem that led to the dismal performance."

Adamu, who is the immediate past Director General of the Sports Ministry, did not resist the opportunity to take a dig at other sectors of the country.

"This is 2010, we are second in U-17 boys, second in U-17 girls, second in U-23 all in the world, and 23rd in the whole world at senior level.

"So then, why would people say that football has done so badly.

"If all other sectors perform creditably like football, by 2020, Nigeria would be among the best 20 countries in the world.

"Let education, power, health, environment and others become second in Africa, then I am sure before 2020 we would be among the first 10 in the World," he said.

Adamu's received support of sorts from former Sports Minister Hassan Gimba, who also claimed that state governors turned themselves into a pressure group and usurped the functions of the football body.

"Some state governors ganged up to become a pressure group on the Presidency, because they wanted to remain in the good books of the government," Gimba said.

He did not stop there, and took a pop at the Presidential Task Force, led by Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi.

"The Presidential Task Force which was formed to raise money for the Super Eagles, later became a parallel body with the NFF and NSC, thereby removing the wheel of progress from them."

The forum ends on Thursday.

NFF offer Siasia $20 000

Posted: 2010-08-14 10:32

Samson Siasia will earn $20,000 a month if he accepts the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) offer to handle the Super Eagles for the next four years.

Siasia was reported to have demanded a monthly salary of $100,000 (N15 million) and a sign-on fee of $1 million (about N150 million), which appears now far from what the federation can afford.

The NFF board first proposed to Siasia and his lawyer a monthly salary of N2 million before it reviewed it upwards to N3million with the proviso that he would from the amount pay whoever he picks as his assistants.

“Siasia actually asked for a sign-on fee of $1million, monthly salary of N15 million, a house, a brand new car with a driver and a cook too. He was accompanied by his lawyer in the discussion with the board.

“After much pressure he reduced the amount to N12 million but the board said they can't pay more than N2million but later increased it to N3millon.

“He however said he would come back to meet with us after his CAF Champions League assignment in Egypt with Heartland.

“He cited the contracts of Lars Largerback, the one of Berti Vogts and Shuaibu Amodu too. He said he is coming to handle a national team and he is confident and ready to do a good job so his case should not be different,” a top NFF official said.

Another official said: “Sincerely speaking, I think the N3 million is too small compared with what others before him were paid.

“But there is now a three-man committee set up by the board to discuss with his lawyer on the way forward.”?

Lagerback took home $300,000 (about N45 million) for each of the five months he was in charge of the Eagles, while Shuaibu Amodu was on N2million a month . Amodu was also entitled to double the players' win bonuses.

Siasia is in Egypt with Heartland who are under pressure to win away at Ismaily tomorrow if they are to stay alive in the CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian club was forced to a 1-1 draw at home by Al Ahly in their opening Group B match before they lost by the odd goal to hosts JS Kabylie in their second match.

Tomorrow's showdown against Ismaily will therefore be a battle between the group's bottom teams, while leaders, JSK and second-placed Ahly slug it out in the other match.

Heartland, also known as the ‘Naze Millionaires’ are missing attacking midfielder, Uche Agba, who netted six goals in last year's campaign. Agba has since transferred to Tunisian side, CS Sfax.

NFF, Siasia open talks

Posted: 2010-08-12 20:56

After weeks of vacillating, the board of the Nigeria Football Federation have opened formal discussions with Samson Siasia with a view to having him take charge of the Super Eagles.

Siasia met with the NFF board on Wednesday night to discuss the terms of his contract, in a meeting that lasted for hours.

"We have begun negotiating with Siasia. We invited him to appear before the board to discuss his contract," NFF vice-president, Obinna Ogba, said.

"As soon as we reach an agreement with him, we will make his appointment public."?

The former international striker, accompanied by his wife Sandra, was locked in talks with the NFF board Wednesday in Abuja between 5.30pm and 11pm.

The new NFF leadership led by acting president Aminu Maigari have previously discussed with Siasia informally.

Siasia, who led Nigeria to the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has been widely reported to succeed former Sweden boss, Lars Lagerback, who has turned down a chance to continue as the Super Eagles supremo after the World Cup in South Africa.

Former Nantes striker Siasia is a popular choice for the top Nigeria coaching post, even though former Eagles handler Shuaibu Amodu has raised issues over not considering other coaches alongside Siasia for the job.

Amodu has argued that other coaches like Stephen Keshi and Austin Eguavoen be given a chance to compete for the post along with Siasia.

Nigeria host Madagascar on September 4 in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Wait until NFF tell him to buzz off that they don't have the money, then he would be the one begging them to take him.

With all these hypes surrounding him, he's setting himself up for a big fall and i pray it doesn't happen.

Egypt 2010 is still fresh in our memories.

Bukola Olopade is the only sports administrator to publish his accounts after hosting a major competition; Ogun Sports Festival. Gateway Fc is one of the best ran clubs in the league. They hardly have problems with players wages, fans violence. The have the youngest squad in the NPL(which is why they are always getting relagated).
During Obaseki's tenure as NPL head, NPL was rated as the best league in Africa. He brought in a massive sponsorship from Glo worth 900 million naira. He sealed TV deal with Super sports that each club in the league gets 10 million naira as TV rights. He brought in digital substitution boards. He brought in Lucozade Sports and many other things to the league.
What has Segun Odegbami done since he stopped playing football? He tried his hands in managing 3SC, he was sacked. He ran a sports daily after he left Complete Sports; Sports Digest, he couldn't manage that.
I pray Obaseki win's that election, i see our football changing because that man knows how to bring in private sectors into football.

I pity Siasia because everyone clamoring for him now are likely to call for his head when the card starts to crumble.

There was this stupid bike guy that carried me from Oshodi heading towards Egbeda, this crazy guy was dragging the express road with a fully loaded trailer and other huge cars (jeep), i shouted at the fool and told him to die alone if he's ready to die, he kept telling me not to teach him how to drive hehehehehe

Thank God the bike actually developed fault in the middle of the journey, i had to jump down because the clutch cable cut off and the bike refused to move.

If not for a lady that had to pick me up with her car from that point to my destination, i would have trekked a long distance in the dark before getting another means of transport.

This okada people should be made to pass through psychiatric test because i don't think most of them are normal.

One more thing, what is it with ogogoro (shepe) and commercial riders/drivers? most of them smell of alcohol anytime they set out to drive people to their point of no return. huh

Elaineh:
@Honeric01: Mexico actually borders 4 US states - California, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. He could enter through any one of them but he stated that he wants to go to Miami, FL so then the shortest route on land would be to enter through Texas and then travel east and southward to get to Florida. Entering through California would just be adding more work for him because if you compare Cali and Florida, they're on completely opposite sides of the US. And as for Alaska, dat wan na long tin o! Lol. It's completely seperate from the continental US and quite far away; it's attached to the northwestern coast of Canada.
Ok bro, thanks for the breakdown, i just wanted to be sure, didn't know he wanted to go into FL.

All the same, he should sit his ass down in Nigeria, go for counseling, get someone to help him decide what to do with his life, there's no guaranty that if he makes it to the US, his life's going to change, your mindset determine how progressive you'd be in life no matter where you are.
