You need to use a good font. Times New Roman does not cut it. Upon checking your portfolio, I noticed this: http://www.theresurrectedchristandhisapostles.com/. Currently, the link is dead, but if this is a site you are currently working on, kindly kindly kindly reduce the domain name to something people can easily memorize and type in their web browsers. With that, you still need to work hard on improving your general design skills by reading more resources and tutorials online. |
If you are using Firefox web browser, you can try the FireFTP firefox extension. |
Submachine Gun vs. Sniper Rifle vs. Shotgun. Who's da best? |
Resources that can also help you: jQuery Mobile UI Sencha Touch |
It will be worthwhile to state here that not all web hosting companies do these. Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com |
Well, first, You have to know people will be committing their lives into your hands. Are you prepared to care for other people's souls? Secondly, do you have the requisite capability to save their lives at some critical moments (e.g. technical support, downtime)? If you can do these, you are just OK. |
To really get good in this thing, you have to learn hands-on HTML + CSS. Lots of resources are around. Just google. To get painless worry-free dropdown menus, you have to use one of the many suckerfish menu solutions out there (Google suckerfish menu). Code auto-generated by fireworks is not so clean and might not look good in all browsers. |
@Spikes So, who is the Yahoo Yahoo? |
Part 2 of the Seven part series has just been posted. You can always post your comments here: http://www.hostmot.com/blog/tips/search-engine-optimization-7-lessons-from-nairaland-part-2/ |
It would be an interesting discussion. @Poster, we are waiting. |
Hosts generally will give you unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited space if your site really needs it. What you will not get is unlimited CPU and RAM, and every ethical host will tell you that in T&C before you sign up. You can start from an unlimited shared hosting and then upgrade to a powerful machine when your site needs more computing power. Lanre, HostMot COO, www.hostmot.com |
There is nothing wrong with using a CMS when the situation really demands it, the same way there is nothing wrong with purchasing a computer instead of buuilding one from the scratch just because you can. |
Well, let us hope that this is not all talk too. |
Why learn all CMSes on the market when one or two can suit most of your needs. An in-house developer we have can build his own custom cms. At our end, we love Wordpress though, and I believe most Nigerians don't look outside of Wordpress and Joomla. Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com |
Google is your friend. pagetutor.com and w3schools.com are great places to start from. If you really really want good video tutorials, check out lynda.com (you'll have to pay though). Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com |
@shintaku Yes, it does and very well too. You can visit our website: www.hostmot.com to have a chat with a live agent if you have any further enquiries. |
Like yawa-ti-de has rightfully said, there should be categories of comparison. In the world of design, picking the best is really difficult considering the amount of factors that abound. Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com |
This post was meant to be posted in full here, but the spambot ate it and this account was banned for three days from even posting at all, so we decided to put it our blog. Click here to read: http://www.hostmot.com/blog/tips/search-engine-optimization-nairaland-lessons-1/ Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com This is not a promotion. It is just to educate the community using Nairaland as a case study. If someone can copy and paste successfully in a new thread, then this thread can be deleted. |
Well, anything organized in Abuja is meant for Abuja people only, since all the IT events take place in Lagos. We are jealous already. ![]() |
@jjjkkkooo What was your experience like? And at which host? |
Things will definitely get better as time goes on. |
hehe, hope you remember to change the sawyerrken part, else he's gonna be stealing your traffic. ![]() |
There are lots of them in ABuja, where the big boys are System Specs. (Google System Specs Nigeria. Too many links and the spam catcher becomes trigger happy) They get almost every FG software contract (remember that epayment thingy early last year?). They supply business software for the top Government parastatals like NNPC. They win every software award in Nigeria (http://nigerianbulletin.com/2009/12/18/systemspecs-nigeria-is-software-company-of-the-year/). BTW, you must seen adverts of their epayment system, Remita in the national dailies cos their ugly logo is actually hard to miss. They are actually good at what they do functionality-wise but interface-wise, you wanna cry. |
True, an update is really required. HostMot is planning to replicate something similar in Abuja. Lanre HostMot COO, www.hostmot.com |
Pin Codes in all their glory are only common in developing countries where online payment systems are not in wide use. Therefore, it would be difficult for you to find a functional Joomla module that would do what you want since the bulk of people who build this are in developed countries. The only solution you have is to find a really good Joomla guru in Nigeria who will build a custom solution for you. Lanre, HostMot COO www.hostmot.com |
The thing is Nigerians have not really understood the fact that websites are an online extension of their offices. The sooner web designers get columns in Newspapers and give people the right information, the better for the industry. |
I think the noise about CSS3 has sort of died down since browsers like Safari, Chrome and IE9 have integrated it to some extent. Nevertheless, the video was quite informative. |
That is a well developed site, but has your client worked out the logistics involved in carrying out the CD exchanges or will the members be handling that on their own? |
Nice move by SmartWeb, ![]() |
