@ Spikelord,
Zidane,Platini and Paolo Rossi are not in the same league as Pele, Maradona and Luiz Ronaldo.

Maradona is arguably the best footballer to have ever played on Planet Earth.
He is not goverened by money like Zidane and Ronaldo who all played for big clubs after an impressive world cup performance.
Maradona prefered a lowly rated Napoli and dragged em from the Serie B to Serie A and even won the European cup and the Scuddetto for the same club plus the super cup.
Can u Picture Zidane playing for Sunderland or Watford FC?
Had Maradona played for Milan or Real Madrid his impact would have been more felt at club level than what we knw.

Pele's 1000 plus goals cannot be reckoned with because they played more games in a season and it was at a time football wasn't so organised.
Football has changed a great deal now especially with tactical defence system which strikers now find hard to beat.
There was no diving and ridiculous offside calls so goals were scored freely and easily.

The Most Outstanding Super Eagles Game is.

Nigeria Vs Ghana @ Senegal 92.

Though, Nigerial lost the match but the super eagles displayed a superlative performance that got me thinking Nigeria is the best in the world when she's wounded.

@ Spikelord,

Holland has the best chance in Europe if they can maintain the spirit that got 'em the World Cup ticket.
They possess a decent squad that can just nip the world cup. Robben and Ruud will do some damages and all y'all better watch out for 'em.
Van Basten has been great and i have a feeling he will push Holland to the last four.

@ Lordimpaq,

Please tell its not true that people actually fought in Lagos prior to the UCL final.
Are people that fanatical in Nigeria?
Wonders shall never end. grin grin grin grin grin grin

Arsenal fans in Nigeria are off-the-hook though but i wldn't have imagined 'em trading blows and kicks because of a match that does not involve any Nigerian whatsoever.
I am glad Arsenal lost cos the whole Lagos and Nairaland would have been painted RED with O2 inscribed on it.

How i wish i was among the smart dudes.
It will probably be a syndicate thingy. No run-of the-mill hood-rat could have single-handedly stolen the World Cup Trophy.
Brazilian Government could have had a hand in it because i understand Brazil is similar to Naija when it comes to CORRUPTION.
Nigeria is anutha country something like this can happen. I remember when the score board @ The National Stadium was declared missing.
Can u imagine? An item of that size missing when its not a mobile fone or a diamond stone.

Anywayz, 5.4KG of Raw Gold will put me on top of the echelon for life.
Just a thought, just a dream.
SportsRe: Towards Germany 2006: World Cup by hucarson(m): 6:47pm On May 24, 2006
@ Akola,

I feel England has a good chance if Rooney can quickly find his form before the tournament kicks off.
England has the best set of finest defenders in Ferdinand,Terry,G.Neville,Carragher and Asley Cole.
The Midfield is also good with the exception of the left side where i think Joe Cole is struggling. In a country like France and Holland,Joe cole will not even make the team.
Unfortunately, the hottest strike partner in England are too short. Owen n Rooney will struggle aerially but Crouch can always come in to help when things turn ugly.

Technically,England should reach the Q-finals but Brazil will always be favourites with the arsenal of stars that makes up the team.
An european team is likely to win because European teams always win on European soils and South American teams always win on other soils apart from Europe.
Brazil is the only team that has managed to break that jinx by winning in Europe in 1958 and winning in Asia in 2002.
The other hot favourites are Holland, Argentina and Italy.

Paolo Rossi actually came out of the prison to be the highest goal scorer at Espana '82. He was alledged to have gotten himself screwed up with some match-fixing/betting scandal and he was amnestified from a 4-month prison sentence to make the Italian team that eventually won the world cup.
After having a drought in his first 4 matches at the World Cup,the Italian press were calling for his head but his coach/manager had faith in him and he went on to WIN both the golden boot award and the golden ball award(MVP) later in the tournament.
He scored a hatrick against Brazil in the Q-finals.
He scored a brace against Poland in the Semi-finals and he scored the 1st goal against Germany in the finals to bag 6 goals in the tournament.

**
Jarzinho was a terror to opposition's defence. He scored in every match Brazil played in the 1970 world cup. His goal against England is ma favourite and it still plays on ma mind.
Brazil did everything humanly possible to score a goal on that sunny afternoon but Gordon Banks defied all the laws of Physics by making subliminal saves after saves to deny Pele, Tostao, Rivelino and Jarzinho.
Gordon Banks made arguably the greatest save ever in the history of football from a Pelé header on the six-yard line.
The game was heading for a draw until Tostao made his way into the opposition's box and dribbled 3 defenders. He turned and his lob found Pele, who was well positioned to score. Pele unselfishly laid a pass to Jarzinho on his right hand side and Jarzinho powered the ball into the net with a frenzy.
Alas,Gordon Banks' brilliance and agility was beaten and Brazil won the match and later won the world cup with style n grace.

***
The Jules Rimet trophy also known as the world cup was stolen just before 1966 world cup in England during a public exhibition at Westminster central hall but was later found by a dog named pickles after 7 days in South London wrapped in a newspaper.
This prompted the English FA to make a replica of the trophy for use in the post-match celebrations.
Unfortunately, The Brazilian team won the same cup for keeps in 1970 and the cup was later stolen in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro and was never recovered till date.
Close sources revealed it was melted down.

I hope this satisfies your SOS call.
Cheers.

He has been very careful with his choice of words and he's been able to avoid calling out names of Nairalanders in his attacks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Priscilla is a brilliant chic that loves Barca but she will marry Arsenal. A very cheeky fan that is developing great interests in the game.
I sometimes admire her sense of humour and i appreciate her comments when things fall apart on Nairaland.
She will do better working with the United Nations.

4play is the mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Constant attacks on 'em rival clubs and he must hit his nail on the head. He has changed Nairaland and most fans now think hard before they post dud comments. He is kind of aware the majority here are gooners so u can always expect him to be very defensive with his comments.
What other way can one be defensive without attacking?

Grizzly is a simple fan. I don't know him very well so i cannot say much.

Jackal is the main man on Nairaland. Jackal and I have attracted lot of haters which makes us the most-hated Nairaland pair on the sports forum.
Just like Millwall FC: They hate us but we don't care.
I always appreciate Jackal's comments and the fact that we support the same club makes it more interesting.
He does not tolerate fans especially gooners of Nairaland who thinks Arsenal is the best team in the world.
As a matter of fact, he detests 'em non-objective fans and once told me they had made him hate Arsenal with a passion and it will be great for football if Arsenal went out of business. How do u explain the gist i heard about some gunners in Lagos painting a live cow the colours of Arsenal just because Arsenal made it to the finals of UEFA? Its sick, innit?
Jackal and I are like siamese twins co-joined on the hip and we wont stop fighting Arsenal fans on Nairaland.

@ Spikelord,

First all,
The article was written by a Nigerian so one should expect some biased comments and some margin of error.
I am a very quick reader and i have been able to spot some errors in the article u have posted.
The writer claimed Okocha has never been sent off while playing for Nigeria. This is a big syntax error

Lemme ask u. Who was that Nigerian player that got sent off against Senegal at Ghana/Nigeria 2000 Q-finals?
The player was Jay-Jay Okocha. He got a red-card and he missed the S/final match against South Africa.
To make matters worse,he was even sent off on a Nigerian soil. grin grin grin grin grin grin. Your writer should have known this.
The error has invalidated your URL/link so i aint interested in it any longer and i urge all Nairalanders to disregard your link.

@ Reyes,
Please tell 'em o.
Ronaldinho is s'thing else and his teammates complain regularly he makes em look stupid @ training session with the kind of things he does with the ball.
Haven't u guys seen the commercial ads of Eric Cantona's "joga bonito"? Those flicks of Ronaldinho weren't computer-enhanced especially the clips of his childhood days as a player.
Those stuffs were REAL and Okocha's waist will fracture if he attempts all those devious/diabolical moves.
Only a demon plays like Ronaldinho.grin grin grin grin grin
SportsRe: Ronaldinho Or Okocha: Who Is More Skillful? by hucarson(m): 8:12pm On May 18, 2006
Ronaldinho is more skillful than Okocha in 1 million ways.

Don't even compare the 2 players because Ronaldinho belongs to another realm in the world of soccer.
Ronaldinho will soon be ranked with 'em Pele and Maradona with the way things are going.
How many of y'all have seen Ronaldinho's documentary on his biography? Please try and watch this.
The kind of things he was doing with the ball at the age of 8 is unbelievable. Some of his mates were interviewed amd they all confessed they hated playing with him because he always made 'em look stupid with the things he does with football. He was the youngest player in the U-10 team in his hood and he was the best.
Dinho's ball control is top-notch and he is physically stronger than Okocha.

Lets remove patriotism out of this thread, Ronaldinho is miles above Okocha(no controversy)
I don't even think Okocha is the best in Africa because y'all have to convince me well that Okocha is better than Abedi Pele.

*He scored the vital equalising goal that geared Barcelona up to go for the kill.

She's looking for a Man Utd application form. Do u think we should let her join?

I felt for Arsenal but had they won, Nairaland wld have been painted red with that disgusting cannon of theirs.
Today had the lowest online users on the sports forum on Nairaland. Its explainable cos 98% of the active users are gooners.
I am happy ma predictions came to pass and i am still celebrating Barca's success.

Ya talk is cheap abegi.
Why take jabs at Liverpool and Man Utd fans.
These are the only 2 teams that have won the trophy in England so it aint about 2nd and 3rd position in the Premiership.
Arsenal lost and they have lost. End of story.

To be honest, Pires was the best lamb to sacrifice in the Gunners camp.
Lehmann should be blamed for that nasty tackle he made on Etoo.
Anutha referee would have allowed that goal to stand and would have also sent Lehmann off.

Arsenal was even lucky Barcelona wasn't really in form last night so it cld have been worse for y'all Gunners.
U guys can always try again but i have a feeling Arsenal might never have the chance to get to the finals again.
Barcelona deserved the victory because they showed lots of character especially by the manner the team won the match.
Almunia cldn't have done better. He was a 2nd keeper and he wldn't have thought he would be featuring in a game like that.
Henry and Lehmann were the culprits. Arsene Wenger should also take the blame for substituting an astute Fabregas for his countryman Flamini.

Better luck next time.
P.S. I have got a Man Utd application form for u.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Barcelona Fc Vs Arsenal Fc ( 2005/2006 Uefa Champions League Final) by hucarson(m): 12:34am On May 18, 2006
@ Bagoma,
I wasn't scared shitless.
Just before Campbell's goal,I had actually prayed for Arsenal to score first to gear Barca up for action.
Etoo was just wasting away on the left flank and he wasn't productive at all and i knew an Arsenal goal will change things for Barca.
What crept on ma mind was the match against Chelsea which was a bit similar. I believed if Barca can breach Chelski by scoring 2 goals then they should do it easily against Arsenal.
No defence can cope with Barca's wave of attack on their day. Etoo,Dinho and Guily are too dangerous for any defence and i salute the Arsenal's defence. They did remarkably well. Henry was the black sheep tonight.
SportsRe: Paris Is The Venue Tonight: Any Hope For Arsenal? by hucarson(m): 12:18am On May 18, 2006

Archbishop Wenger failed to anoint his players with the holy-spirit so Etoo's demons sank 'em.

@ Jackal,
Oooooooh Ma Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The match was breath-taking. Rijkaard lost the plot by starting Edmilson and Oleguer but he was quick to notice their deficiencies.
Etoo never disappoints and he sank the gunners with a sublime finish.
What do u think will happen to Henry now?
Did u hear his dud comments on Dinho and Etoo @ SkySports?
He claimed Dinho and Etoo didnt impress him with all their hype. How can a professional footballer make such a stupid statement?
Etoo was the cause for Lehmann's red-card and he scored a good goal. What else does Henry want from him?
Did Henry even perform to his expectations? He was the major cause of Arsenal's defeat and he should have buried the chance he had one on one with Valdes. Didier Drogba would have done better.

The referee was another bleeping clown. How cld he have allowed Eboue's dive to result in a free-kick?
I was very unhappy at a point because the Ref just spoilt everything good about the game.
He was making the wrong calls time after time and the game just sucked.
What do u think?

This is the moment of truth.
Gilberto will be as quiet as a trapped mouse on the D-day.
If Makelele could not stop the rampaging Deco and Ronaldinho i wonder who can stop 'em.
Gilberto that was locked down by make-shift midfielders(O'Shea and Giggs) at OT last month will be extinguished @ Paris.

Arsenal's strength is the defence where i think they have done an excellent job.
If the back-four can hold the fort then Henry might just slip in and get a winning goal.
It's a big ASK for these young guns. I tip Barca to win by at least 3 goals to nuthing.
