I wouldn't go as far as saying avoid Nigerians, but I will argue that there are enormous benefits to be gained from mingling with people who are not from your own background. The last time I was on a course which happened to have 2 Nigerians in it, one of them was trying to convert me to his faith.

There’s no magic rule to this. It’s just a matter of connecting and networking with like minded people. E.g u wouldn’t be asking a Nigerian born in the UK how u can change ur immigration status. You need to be asking people who have gone through similar process and can relate to your situation. Start from your Uni alumni, people who came to UK to study and are now permanent residents.
