Foreign AffairsRe: Why We Stopped Buying Nigeria’s Oil, By White House by hydroking23(m): 2:37pm On Dec 27, 2014
When you have clueless, short sighted leaders the people are the ones who suffer due to the inability of this government to overcome the strong arm tactics of America.

1. Did we stamp out corruption?
2. Did we increase local refining production capacity?
3. Have we fast tracked developing other sources of foreign exchange?
4. Have we fast tracked our local manufacturing agenda?

The answer to all of these questions is a big fat NO. If Nigeria would have achieved just ONE of these things it would have left us in a better position diplomatically, and economically. This my brothers and sisters is an indictment of Goodlucks government. Don't be mad at Obama for putting a clueless child in his place. There is no reasonable explanation to reelect this man. People get the leadership they deserve. Let's hope we deserve better next year!

Unfortunately #96 exists only on paper. Ekporo in Eleme LGA is my village and not only is there no such project but the the people have been chased away from their land by the Okrika people and it is being used as a port where the proceeds from illegal bunkering are being offloaded. There is no Federal government presence in any way shape or form there.
PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Gain More Towns, Fighter Jets Do Nothing - Yahoo News by hydroking23(m): 12:31pm On Sep 11, 2014
The same yahoo just came up with this contrary report YESTERDAY!

http://news.yahoo.com/nigeria-air-ground-attacks-reclaim-town-boko-haram-232715931.html

Divide and conquer has been used to destroy the Black race for centuries. Let's try to rise above it my people!!!!

KANO (Nigeria) (AFP) - Nigeria's military launched ground and air offensives against Boko Haram to recapture the northeastern town of Michika that fell to the jihadist militants over the weekend, witnesses said on Wednesday.

Hundreds of troops aided by military jets have been pounding Boko Haram positions in Michika in Adamawa state since Sunday, residents of nearby towns and villages told AFP

"We have been hearing thunderous explosions from bombs dropped by military jets on Michika," said a Christian priest in Chibok, 20 kilometres (13 miles) from Michika.

Chibok was the scene of a mass abduction by Boko Haram of more than 200 schoolgirls in April.

"The sounds of explosions are more intense at night when flashes of exploding bombs can be seen from Chibok," said the priest, who asked not to be named.

It has been difficult to obtain information from the remote northeastern region where Boko Haram has seized control of numerous towns and villages in recent weeks, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

"From on top of a hill outside the village we can catch glimpses of compounds in Michika being occupied by Boko Haram and the street fight with soldiers," said David Buba, a resident of Jiginlambu village, eight kilometres from Michika.

"Nigerian troops are getting an upper hand on Boko Haram who are overwhelmed by the ground and air offensives."

Another resident, Silas Ande, gave a similar account.

"We can see them (the militants) running in all directions in confusion", said Buba. "If soldiers sustain the assaults, Michika will soon be recaptured from Boko Haram."

A huge military contingent has been deployed in Mararrabar Vimtim village, 20 kilometres outside Michika, to prevent any rebels slipping out of the town and heading towards the main commercial hub of Mubi.

There has been a mass exodus from Mubi in recent days after Boko Haram took Michika.

Security fears prompted the indefinite closure of the Adamawa State University in Mubi, according to a university statement. In October 2012, Boko Haram fighters were blamed for shooting dead at least 40 polytechnic students at their off-campus hostels in the town.

The jihadists say they want to establish an Islamic caliphate in northern Nigeria and have killed thousands since launching their campaign in 2009.

A recent upsurge in violence has seen the group seize control of large swathes of Adamawa, Borno and Yala states. The Nigerian military has been accused of failing to effectively counter the threat.

The United States last week said it was alarmed by reports that Boko Haram had captured the Borno town of Bama and the possibility of an attack on the state capital, Maiduguri, 70 kilometres away.
PoliticsRe: I Dumped PDP Over FG's Delay To Implement UNEP Report Amaechi by hydroking23(m): 1:23pm On Jul 15, 2014
Let me ask this. If I'm a Kalabari man, what incentive do I have to vote for Goodluck if he took away the oil wells from my community?

If I'm a Ogoni man, why should I vote for Goodluck if for the duration of his tenure he has done NOTHING to clean up my land and water after the United Nations told him to do so?

Blaming Amaechi for using Goodluck's negligence for these communities is not really the issue here.

I'm shocked people here actually believe that the FG constructed the PH-Elele road. This road was built by the RSG and by one of their main contractors. If you don't like Amaechi, no problem but don't deny his works, they are set in stone laced with fact. I just wish Amaechi would have done the east west road the same way, we are suffering because of the delayed work on it. Shame on you Mr. PRESIDENT

I noticed a lot of people who have bad things to say about Amaechi aren't even from Rivers State. The monorail is a multiphase project that will take people from town to oyigbo. The only bad thing about it is that only phase 1 will be finished by the time he leaves. Aside from that it's a commendable project.

EducationRe: Insecurity: Jigawa, Rivers, Bayelsa Evacuate Students From ABU by hydroking23(m): 8:27am On Jun 26, 2012
lacasa: Tђat's not right.

Even if the Bayelsa, Jigawa anϑ Rivers state governments felt they had τ̅o evacuate their students from the institution, they should αve first of all contacted the state government of kaduna as it is the governor †ђªt is saddled with the security of all inhabitants within the state. After †ђªt if the governor deems it necessary, the V.C will now be notified anϑ then the evacuation takes place formally.

But, now †ђªt students are whisked away without the knowledge of the governor as chief security officer anϑ the VC of the institution, if something were τ̅o happen in transit or accident for example (God forbid sha) what would be the wisdom behind this move?

Well, thank God the curfew has been relaxed anϑ normalcy is resuming gradually, very soon academic activities will resume.

We keep praying for peace in our land anϑ the exposure anϑ humiliation of those causing all this havoc whoever anϑ wherever they may be. Amen.
Its not right how? If I feel my life is in danger and my government/sponsors/guardians express a similar view, I don't need to consult anyone before fleeing the scene of a potential powder keg. I totally agree with taking Pre-empitve measures to possibly avert a dangerous situation. Anything could have happened in between trying to contact the VC and then the Kaduna Governor. Then the discussion would be about why the respective state governments didn't take proactive measures to evacuate their indigenes in order to prevent the loss of life. So thumbs down to your view!
TV/MoviesRe: DKB And Zainab Disqualified From BBA Stargame by hydroking23(m): 9:43am On Jun 05, 2012
I don't know where women get off thinking its ok to slap a man you don't even know and be shocked that he slaps back. Funny enough, he even warned her he was going to slap her and she kept on. Someone above me stated that if the tables were turned and DKB was the one peeping at Zainab, it would have been completely ok for her to slap him, and thats so true. Is that not a double standard? Not only was she talking trash all in his face, she slaps him!! Do you people get that? She deserved what she got.

If you can slap then you can be slapped, regardless of your gender. Some women say that anything a man can do a woman can do better... Well not in this case!! If you want respect give respect, if you don't wanna get slapped then don't go around slapping people, its really that simple. Its not an African thing, its not a gender thing, go to anywhere in the world and try what Zainab did and I bet you'll come back with ya face marked up more than herstongue tongue

Some guys are on here talking about how they don't hit women and how its wrong and all that. I agree to a degree. I don't condone hitting anyone, men or women, because violence begets violence. But I'm tired of women hiding behind the fact that their gender some how gives them the right to behave any way they please, as if their attitude and behavior is not bound by the rules of rational mature behavior. Not only did she get the piss slapped out of her, she's also getting sent home grin

why was he making reference to the poor on the street as if the rights of the rich dont need to be protected by the National assembly ? Arent we all Nigerians irrespective of our financial backgrounds whose interests must be protected ?
Its apparent you aren't grasping the fundamental issue here. Going by your logic, the National Assembly will tackle issues that only directly impact its members, i.e. The South Africa fiasco, even though that issue had been affecting ORDINARY Nigerians for years before an Honourable member felt the blow, BA AND VIRGIN fare discrepancies on first/business class travel, again who is flying first class/business?? not your ordinary Nigerian an the Honourable member whose WIFES car had fault, bring Hyundai to the House Floor for probe!

If I remember correctly the members of the legislature REPRESENT their constituents THEY are the people who they are supposed to be fighting for, their issues are the issues that are supposed to be raised. I'm not going to wait until an Honourable's child dies from ingesting contaminated drinking water due to Oil pollution before they start to take serious steps towards debating and passing legislation that matters to the masses!

There's no evidence what so ever to even question whether this is an epedemic or an individual anomaly of faulty equipment, because if it isn't a wide spread issue to the point where they need to start recalling all Hyundai's of that particular model, then they are wasting everyones time and effort and most importantly MONEYhuh

They will take pot shots at Obama's speech but just like a divided house it will fall in on itself. Gotta love those Republicans cool cool

GEJ's best option is to allow the U.S. to label BH as a terrorist organisation. From there the CIA, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security will unleash all of its resources to track, analyze and cut off all sources of support for BH. From there GEJ's people can have a head start at crushing these terrorists despite the deficiencies of the Nigerian intelligence community. With access to their financial sponsors and backers within the government and outside GEJ's people will have no excuse from reducing the impact these Muslim extremists have had on the Nigerian state. Anything less than this confirms the unwillingness and the ineptitude of GEJ's administration to fully and effectively tackle the menace of BH.

PoliticsRe: ‘States Are Not Bankrupt, But We Have No Money!’ -Amaechi by hydroking23(m): 12:59pm On Oct 31, 2011
Kobojunkie:
You really have not revealed anything new to us here. Revenue sharing has been with us for well over 2 decades. So, it makes no sense for a governor elected only yesterday to engage us in the yet more of the old whine-fests(we have become well acquainted with, and honestly tired of) of how his inability to produce is linked to revenue sharing and what nots. There are so many other avenues these new age governors can explore when it comes to revenue generation.
Please enlighten us on some of these avenues the governors can explore. We may be tired of the same ol whine-fests as you put it, but if the reasons behind the inefficiency are the same then its hard to expect much change, unless you plan on providing your suggestions for generating revenue cheesy

blackpanda:
Well, while this may be good suggestion theoritically, in practice it is not advisable for the fed govt govt to relinquish control to states, especially at this stage of our democracy. We have had governors in the past that have deployed the vast state resources to the celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, burial ceremonies etc instead of using such wealth for the betterment of the citizens. Therefore, the fed govt must be able to control the states effectively (at least for now), and one on the ways of doing so is thru economic/fiscal control. Governors already enjoy immense political power over the federal govt, to add economic power to them may just be a recipe for disaster. Nigeria needs an effective center that can hold and bind us together, otherwise there it would be better if we all went our separate ways.
Besides, u are only referring to your own state, what about state's that dont produce oil? Are there no nigerians (or even riverians) living there too? Already, oil producing states enjoy more allocation above other states, and in my view i think this is fair. It is left for such states to now utilize the resources they have prudently and in an efficient sustainable way, rather than wasting their limited resources on political/ selfish agendas.

Yes i commend the monorail iniciative. But i am very sure there are other ways of securing more revenue. State govts should engage in activities that boost tourism (especially as rivers is along the coast, the govt can take a cue from dubai), agriculture (especially with regards to fishing), education (both formal and informal) as well as production of commercially viable products. To sit down and just be waiting for fed govt allocation is just plain stupidity. Rather, the state govts have to start investing in projects that will yield future gains.
Nigeria is one of the most culturally rich nations in the world! Yet the tourism industry there is ridiculously non-existent! There are economies in the world whose major source of income is basically tourism, It is high time we start thinking outside the box. Poverty and unemployment can not simply be wished away, it takes hardwork, dedication and determination!
So in other words you believe the federal government is better equipped to manage the the finances generated by the states than the states themselves? Are those at the federal level more judicious and honorable than their counterparts at the state level? So why all the rot in federal institutions if they are less corruptable? The fact is that if we claim federalism, it must be practiced. Those at the top of the federal structure should not dictate how state funds should be spent, its backwards, inefficient and it facilitates more corruption i.e. NNPC, NDDC. There is a strectch of road leading from Eleme Junction all the way down to Bori (Ogoniland). The state of the road is beyond comprehension, but nothing can be done due to the fact that its a "federal road" so only "federal" intervention can mend the situation. I guess we should wait until the Feds are ready??

How can a state with tourism potentials fully realise the potentials of the area, if crime is rampant in the area, but the governor is subject to the IGP (in abuja) when it comes to tackling the safety and security within the state. If my governor is misusing state funds, its easier for us to reach the government house within our state than it is to aso rock in abuja to voice our complaints. As I said the federal government has means to intervene in such cases when states aren't properly performing, its an easier task for the Feds instead of leaving all the developmental agendas to the Feds themselves. Some states actually have capable hands that if given what they deserve, alot of these issues could be resolved.

Government starts at the Local level

PoliticsRe: ‘States Are Not Bankrupt, But We Have No Money!’ -Amaechi by hydroking23(m): 9:08am On Oct 31, 2011
The fact that revenue is shared altogether is a primitive and archaic method of revenue distribution. Federalism is not practised in Nigeria. If it was, the wealth a state generates would go directly to that state. For instance, Rivers state has oil and gas reserves, so to "Generate Wealth" oil and gas companies flood the state to extract the oil and gas, they pay the proceeds back to local governments where they are operating, the local governments pay taxes/royalties to their respective state, which also does the same to the federal government. That is my understanding of fiscal federalism and for all intensive purposes that process is not practiced in Nigeria.

Aside from the collection of taxes, levies, fines and services charges, what are some other wealth creating activities that the State governments can implement to avoid perpetual dependency on the Federal Government? If you are saying State governments should place emphasis on creating entrepreneurship, then Rivers State does that through an agency called RSSDA, along with other State sponsored programmes. Can't speak for other states since I'm in PH. The monorail is a great idea to generate revenue; people have to pay to ride don't they? It will improve transportation within the state and create jobs.

Nigeria's problem is that the federal government has too much control over everything and they are clearly unable to effect policy efficiently. Local governments and State governments should have control over the resources they have and the companies who profit from them. From there the ferdal government can provide oversight and ensure that their fair share is distributed back to them.

^^ ok brother I respect your opinion after all you know Nigeria better than I do, but sorry to insist I think we should balance our "blame" for these sisters who may have been raised in a culture in which men take care of everything, and society thinks it's normal! but men should not offer the "bling bling" before love my dear and that's some guys' mistakes

Just leave the things changing by themselves, life is different now but it can't change just like that, it's about education, opportunities at work and many other elements
And I respect where you are coming from too my french-gerian sista.  I'm all for balance.  Like I said, find me a Nigerian girl who is wholesome, down to earth and has alot going for herself, god fearing too!  Then we can get down to business cuz I always take care of my lady(established relationships o!)  Ur right tho alot of this stuff stems from poverty, but lets be honest, how much of it can we really blame it on that??  Alot of these girls come from good homes and good backgrounds but they still on the paper chase and they are willing to do anything to get it.

Craziest thing I seen was 10 females, count them 10 females pack out of a bus that picked them up from their school I'm guessing.  All of them was bad as hell, getting off this bus cuz my politician friend was throwing a party.  Little did I know that they got paid 20k just for showing up, but then if anyone  liked them they had to go seal the deal for an additional 50k.

I didn't even know the gimmick until the girl I was dancing with begged me to take her home because she didn't mind shagging me without the additional dough, I was like  huh huh

^^ to be honest I've never lived in Nigeria it"s a fact, but reading here some thread I think people complain a bit too much without making their own "mea culpa" I mean try to understand why some women react like you're denouncing, not that I defend them of course not I really think they have to be more independant, but you brothers should only show off your love and not material because some of you push your sisters on demand

Actually my friends are from different origins most of time Africans, and they're independant, yes of course the majority were born abroad but few came when they were quite adult and they don't have this mentality you're talking about, so again try to pick good and educated woman rather than complaining and generalize
I can only speak from my experience and what I was told of prior to coming to Nigeria. Look if it walks and quacks like a duck then its a DAMN DUCK. Ain't no generalizing. A vast majority of these chicks here think we owe them something. I don't get into chicks just to hit and quit. I want a nice well rounded lady that I can spend some good quality time with. But how does that equate to demanding that I pay your school fees this year?? Chick once told me that before I can date her I gotta be able to handle her up keep, we talkin 50k a month. Female I just met o, I had to go Snoop dogg on her with the "bytch please" I ain't no trick. she wan play me for jjc, i no dey for that one.

You said you've never lived in 9ja, I invite you to come and spend a summer. Alot of the men here(politicians especially) got these chicks thinking they have a plate of gold in between their legs and they are willing to pay millions of naira for it. I fly United all the time and they are great.  I Usually fly Lufthansa from Port harcourt to frankfurt and connect United to Chicago.

godfadda6:
Also as information, all those who think "these" airlines spray insecticide on their passengers, it is not their faults oh! ask our port health people, who wants the planes "disinfected", and you have to spray it at the low altitude, well luckily, United airlines does not spray our planes with passengers in it, disinfection is done somewhere in the states!

No airline is perfect, you must understand, the aviation business is so unpredictable and there are so many reasons why the things that happen, happen, but i just want anyone that has any bad experience should think about those times they had good experinces.

It's not easy to fly a metal, across the atlantic, 10hrs or more and land it without issues, ask the Lander brothers!
Are there any plans for direct flights to/from ORD (Chicago)??  That would be great for me!  United = 8/10
