Bfly: By the end each minister gets ~45M per year including the allowances and all. Together with domestic workers and P.A and other necessities. I don't think 45m is too much for minister per year with all the necessities. Let's be rational.
Have you considered how much your company expend on you per year not to talk of Minister of a Federation.
The government is not the absolute reason for anyone's poverty.
The only issue here is that they must be up and doing. I was about saying the same, some SMs in banks earn this. Tbh this amount is fair and it's not too much when you compare with what some directors and SMs earn in industry. These guys make money from their allocated budget and not salaries |

cbn4main: For someone who does not require sponsorship(he is already in the uk) and has up 8 years of experience in Nigeria, what are his chances of securing an Accounting or Audit role as an ICAEW member?
Are employers so particular about UK work experience ? The chances are high. However, your experience matters more than the qualifications. |

Peerielass: I would go against the grain here. I don’t see anything wrong with them asking for reference from your current employer. You are allowed to have a second job as long as it doesn’t contravene the terms and condition of your contract.
First question though is - is your employer sponsoring your work visa or are you on dependant visa? If you are on a dependant visa, I don’t see what the problem is. A few of my colleagues (accountants) have second jobs. One works in the pub in the evenings/weekends and the other works in a golf course. We are all aware of this and it’s not a problem. I also help some local groups and charities to complete their books and my employer is aware of this. The problem comes from non/disclosure and conflicting priorities and conflict of interest. The people I’ve mentioned are all British citizens so there might be other things to consider if you are on a sponsored work visa. Thanks. Man just want to be super careful. I'm on a dependant visa but just do not want to take any chances.. olorun oni muwa |

You can cite the GDPR but I don’t think it’ll be necessary. Thanks brother. Can they contact them even without requesting the references details. I have not submitted any references but they know my organisation which is well known |

I hope they wont go ahead and contact my current employer during the DBS check because they have the name of my company? |

koonbey: First, What does your contract say about working additional jobs?
It probably says you shouldn’t, or that it must be with the permission of your main employer.
Second, I’d say this is something you should avoid as even if they give that permission it could raise formal or informal concerns about your commitment and ability (physically and otherwise) to pay full attention to the job e.g. if you’re working nights or on weekends, how refreshed will you be during the day when you’re supposed to be 100% focused on their work? Particularly if you work from home. You're right. I work from home and this will raise concerns. I would discuss with the care home to accept previous employers (tho in Nigeria) but if they insist I will discontinue. I hope they won't use my ID photocopies for anything o |

Goke7: you also got to be careful with this stat, not all white British are British by origin, so many were immigrants who became British by citizenship. It's really funny when people say brits are lazy! These guys are not lazy but due to the fact that they have large older people and most of the youths now prefer to learn trade because it pays more and less stressful hence, the shortage that led to opportunities for us. The same brits work in tesco, care home, factories and other menial jobs. Brits are not lazy but rather the limited human resources they've got have found blue collar jobs more paying and the few in white collar jobs are not enough. Atleast the few white brits around me ain't lazy. |

Wow, this is commendable. There is something about BAT that I really like which is attracting the best brains. It's no brainer that this committee will perform with their leader being the Tax guru himself.. we all know that revenue generation and treasury management is BAT forte so this should not come as surprise. I pray this works. For those shouting he appointed another yoruba. please show me a better Tax guru than Taiwo, check his profile and you'll be amazed I even thought BAT will give him the FIRS chair. |

justwise: Give it 2-3 years they will go back to their vomit as they always do.
Just 2yrs ago they were begging foreign workers to come to the UK to work through health care visa, they reintroduced PSW so as to attract foreign students, a year later they start moaning about the same people they begged to come here.
The UK is a service economy that depends heavily on immigration to function, so this extreme immigration policy is just for next generation elections (which they are going to lose anyway) , next government comes in and go on their begging knees for foreign workers and students.
I’m not encouraging uncontrollable immigration policies, I’m basically saying that it should be sensible. When is the next election? |

How do you peg my daily transfer to 50k meaning we should all return to queuing in the banking hall? Why are we returning to 1990 Banking system instead of going forward? You guys should always read before commenting. This for contact less payments not the regular transfers and cards transactions. Even in UK you can't do more than £100 per transaction |

Peerielass: Probably because it’s not a profession that’s on the shortage occupation list. Although there’s a high demand for Accountants, there’s also sufficient pool of accountants locally to meet the demand so no need for sponsorship and recruiting form abroad.
Secondly some of the jobs in industry require solid UK experience and knowledge unlike auditing where procedures are more standardised hence more transferable skills. I am actually talking about sponsorship for those already in the UK. I somewhat agree with you about the pool and i think it's easier to get into the profession after highschool and get trained till you get qualified |

haybhi1: Do you know there's no bank, besides the fintechs, in Nigeria headed by graduates of these private schools? Now that's what's up. Their heads all got their training from all these fed schools. Now that's what's up.
Also, it's expected for these guys to pull graduates from these schools because the reality is majority of them are from well to do and connected family. Vice versa is the case in that of the fed graduates. They have the funds to meet any preparation required for all these big 4. Look, I have a sis in account department in Unilorin, her motivation to studying hard is that around half of them in class are already taking and smashing ICAN. You can tell that the rest who aren't it can't afford it.
Now the drill is that the finance and banking industries pull the best students from the federal schools and put them there with those guys who have their job placement ready before they get consigned to their private universities. It's a no-brainer. It almost requires no thought to reach this conclusion.
And, oh, don't even let's go into the medical field. Bros, big 4 are accounting firms and they do not need CU's grads family wealth and talking about heading banks and fintechs, how old is CU? You can't expect that easily from them and mind you the former owners of paystack are private unis grad. I studied accounting from a federal university in Nigeria and also a chartered accountant working with a listed company in the UK. So, its not sentiment at all.. let us give them the kudos for how far they have done. PS. I am not saying they are better than federal universities graduates, I am only acknowledging their feats and I believe if care is not taking CU will be the best in Nigeria just like havard(private uni) |

Solumtoya: Wahala... ILR from 5 years to 8 years... Hmmm... There are better ways to tackle immigration and attract only quality talents sha. The Point Based system is not "pointing".
My major challenge with the whole thing is the fact that an Immigrant, no matter how skilled, is tied to the Sponsorship of the Employer. I don't mind the 8 years but requiring an Employment Sponsorship for 8 years is crazy. Such a person can't even easily change jobs but has to remain with Employers willing to sponsor and remain at the mercy of such Employers.
The Global Talent Visa would have been a good remedy but even that is not the easiest to get, I hear.
Don't want to talk about the Visa Fees and IHS for 8 years! Tbh the UK is confused because I don't see how this will solve the migration problems rather skilled professionals would start looking elsewhere because of the cost, inflexibility to change jobs etc. I don't even know any country that give citizenship after 8 years because they are said they want to be in line with many other countries criterion. They should kukuma close borders |

I have checked the fee online and it looks much 😂. Would you advise I continue my ICAN in UK and probably convert to ACCA later using my ICAN. Or make I just close eyes start ACCA here from the foundation level for those with Bsc. Accounting.
Thanks I'd advise you start ACCA if you can because you're still in skilled level, if you were in professional level I would have advised otherwise and moreover, being ACCA part qualified can still get you roles in UK but ICAN part qualified won't get you much. I use ICAN here and it's recognised top audit firms including big 4s and multinationals but still planning to convert my ICAN to CIMA because I'm tired to shalaye and my boss also advised I do. |
