I’m a skilled dependant in finance and I’m currently earning £75k plus bonus. If you target 28k jobs that’s what you’ll earn and If you target 75k jobs and above and you are skilled, na wetin you go get.
Boss, you must be in core finance like investment banking and Co. I'd appreciate if you can share more about your career background and also certifications you've got to help newbies like me. I'm also a finance professional and currently using my ICAN in uk with a pay of 44k and I believe I can earn more with right certifications and guidance.

P.S. this is my 5th month in UK tho.

With each attempt, your score gets a hit and reduces further. It's best to stay away from credit applications for some months to let your score breathe. In the meantime, do other things to increase your score.

I know many people get Cards within few months of arrival. But for most, it might not be the case especially. It's best not to keep trying in the initial months.
You're right. Infact I know a student in my church that has gotten. It's even funnier when I checked on experian and no record was found about me. I'll do as you said by focusing on increasing my score.

Hmmmm have you registered on the UK electoral roll? Do you have direct debit payments to your utility bills running? Must be something you are doing wrong. I was fortunate to have gotten mine approved the same month I got in here. All the best
I've applied to be registered on the electoral roll since April 8th but no response yet, I had to send a mail to my local authority to know the update. I haven't set up my direct debit yet but it will start this month.

Toughest, you say... Can you name other cards that are easier?
Tbh, I've decided not to bother myself with credit card acquisition again because I've tried applying but I always get rejected. This is my 5th month in UK and 2nd month working full time even my bank rejected. Don't know what to do again really

The UK job market is an experienced-based market, it's either you look for jobs tailored to your experience back in Nigeria or you decide to start a new career path by going for graduate or entry roles that require no experience to start. Good thing you are not looking for sponsored visa jobs for now so this is my personal advice, I have been seeing large companies like Lloyds bank advertising for entry-level business analyst roles, which they call apprentice Business analyst roles, I have also seen another Large company known as Legal & General advertised same, so check out things like that and apply. Apprenticeship roles as Business analysts, Data analysts, and others are a good way to go, for 12 or 24 months or so they will train while you work, with this you have solved the UK experience-ish barrier and you can move on from there. Good luck, so target large organisations for apprentice roles.

Just to add, salary amount should not be your problem now as this is where our people are missing it. Your priority is to define your career path and integrate fast into the Uk system
You're right UK job market is experience based, however, your experience in Nigeria can also count depending on you package your CV and how good your transferrable skills are.. if you've got what it takes to get the job please apply and give your best. Apply to coys directly and leave those Outsourcing HRS cos they'll ding you once they hear you've got no UK experience. I got my first job(experienced level) here without UK experience infact i got 2 offers. We need to up our game like the Indians and start applying for experienced level jobs.

currently in London, Woolwich boss, but I don't mind going anywhere.
Check somersetcare & nouveau care(currently have an opening for care assistant with sponsorship) if you don't mind. You can try other care homes in South and Midlands. Those areas do not have much hands hence, getting COS could be easier. All the best

general enquiry, how much do you think someone can save from earning 45k pounds gross in the uk after taxes and all expenses. Just an estimate
This amount is above national average which means you aren't doing badly. However, saving is a bit relative as you've got to consider alot of things like rent in terms of area, if you've got dependents & other financing. Well, I believe you should be able to save atleast 1k if you're the only one and with an assumption that your rent and bills is circa 1k. 200 to 300 should be enough for groceries and another 150 for transport. So it's possible but if you've got family with children you might need more sef.

There are so many things to consider but without more information, I would gravitate towards the 2nd because I'm not a big fan of contract roles in these early stages as the terms are fixed and they can easily be terminated, you're seen as a mercenary with little benefits nor career progression and are often easily replaced should circumstances change. On the other hand, they pay more BUT no benefits, pension contributions, room for increment, promotion, etc.

I once got a permanent role, resumed and within few months, the Management approved a salary raise of 5% across board after a year of deliberation (long before I joined) and it was backdated for 3 months. I benefitted from that ONLY because I was permanent.
Thanks for your advice.
Well, there's pension and even bonus in the offer for the FTC role

Hi Elders,

Trust everyone is coping well with the weather.

Please I need advice on the 2 offers I just got because they are my first job Experience in UK. Both roles align to my background as a finance person & none offered sponsorship but I'm not really bothered as I hold a skilled worker dependent visa.

1st offer.
A 12 months FTC with a leading retail chain in UK and pay is almost 13k above the second offer. The coy is good on CV to port.

2nd offer.

A permanent role with an audit firm in Dorchester not among the top 80 firms when I checked. However, eperience is worth it as I would be exposed UK gaaps(frs 101,102 etc).

Hi Elders, I got my visa last month so I stated applying for jobs in UK using my sister's address in UK on my cv while in naija. fortunately, I got a job with a good coy in UK but I got a mail today to furnish them with my addresses in the last 5 years. My sister told me to come straight because I am still in Nigeria and I won't be in UK till January 2023. I am really confused because the offer is good but I really do not want to be seen as a cheat or liar which will affect my future in uk.. please big bros and sis your advice is needed.

If he works with a smaller firm(big 10), he stands a chance. I know a guy from PKF Kenya that got a manager role in a big4, another from an indigenous firm in South Africa got an assistant manager role. Just have the relevant experience, package your CV well and be prepared to defend your CV during the interview stages.
What if the person has not worked in any audit firm before?
