Politics › Senate Presidency: Saraki’s Election Splits Ondo APC by HzRF(op): 3:07am On Jun 15, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State has described the backing of Bukola Saraki’s candidature for the Senate Presidency by Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo Central) as odd and anti-party.
Although the party said on Sunday that it will abide by the decision of its National Working Committee regarding sanctions or otherwise for those involved, it noted that the senator “acted alone.”
The Ondo State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Omo’ba Adesanya, told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Alasoadura acted in variance to the aims and objectives of the party.
Mr. Alasoadura was the only senator elected on the APC platform from the south west who reportedly voted against the party’s decision to have Ahmed Lawan emerge as the Senate President.
“The action of the senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District does not represent the position of the party in the state.
“We will like to make it clear so that people do not have the idea that he acted in respect of the mandate of the people in Ondo State.
“It is clear his conduct is anti-party, but we will align ourselves with whatever decision is reached at the national working committee as regards sanctions and penalties,” Mr. Adesanya said.
Meanwhile, some leaders of the party at the local government areas within the central senatorial district have risen in defence of the senator for backing Saraki.
They said they gave their consent to the senator before he cast his lot with Saraki, a leader of the APC in Kwara State, who went against the party’s decision to support Ahmed Lawan for Senate President.
They Ondo APC leaders held that Mr. Alasoadura consulted widely before supporting Mr. Saraki to emerge the President of the Senate, arguing that such action could not be anti-party.
In a communique issued in Akure on Sunday and signed by the Chairman of the party in Akure North Local Government, Eleti Joshua, and his Secretary, Tunde Adesunloro, as well as other members, the politicians declared that they had suspended the leader of Ward 9, Ojo Adegbola and Saka Ogunleye for criticizing the senator’s action.
They declared that the suspension of Messrs. Adegbola and Ogunleye was with immediate effect.
The communique reads: “There was no local government executive meeting where distinguish Senator Alasoadura was reprimanded for his action and such directive could not have emanated at all.
“Having gone through our pary (APC) constitution and Federal Republic of Nigeria constitution, there is no where it is written that you cannot support any candidate of your choice and interest. Therefore, senator Donald Tayo Alasoadura has not in anyway violated APC constitution as well as that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Judging from the above, the entire APC members in Akure North Local Government strongly believe in the personality of the Senator Alasoadura, his leadership and his ability to give good representation.
“We hereby suspend Saka Yusuf Ogunleye indefinitely along side his party Ward 9 Chairman, Ojo Adegbola and their suspension takes immediate effect.”

Politics › Re: Federal Allocation-does The South-west Deserve This? by HzRF(m): 10:13pm On Jun 14, 2015
Hammefeez:
Uptill now, the issue of states in southwest,
perticularly Oyo and Osun still bothering me and why they are owning their workers,
in getting solution to that I got this article that will interest you.

Its a fact surrounding the current issues in southwest and other states. Facts...

Federal Allocation - Does The South-West Deserve this?

As released by the Federal Ministry of Finance, the total allocation to all the South-West states, namely, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun for January this year and shared in February was N15.1
billion, while Akwa Ibom State alone with a population less than 3 million people got N13.9 billion! “For the same period. Bayelsa State, at arguably 2 million people, got N10 billion
and Rivers State got N10.3 billion. Between Kano and Jigawa states, which used to be
one state like Lagos State, they got N7 billion. Lagos State only got N3.4 billion.
“If you remove Ekiti State with the lowest allocation of just N2.3 billion, Akwa Ibom State alone gets more allocation than the
rest of the South-West states put together including Lagos. And guess what? Hundreds of thousands of Akwa Ibom State citizens are in Lagos State enjoying the state’s free
education”. “If you multiply the total allocation to the South-
West states at N15 billion per month by 12, you have N180 billion per year! This is less
than 30% of what the FG make from the Lagos Seaports alone, don’t even talk about VAT that Lagos contributes over 60% of the
total accrual to the FG.

“Yet some morons will tell me we live on Niger Delta oil.”
“Now, my State Governor can’t pay his workers because of this systemic injustice.
It is better we start the implementation of regional based fiscal federalism now.
1)U are a fool to have believed /cook that we SW only got 15bn since jan
2)ur stupidity is outstanding free education in lagos??are they suppose to pay tuition fees in public skul after reg with 10k. The revenue u are bragging about is the igbos nt the ones paying bunch of it
3)is it ur land that is supposed to chronic land destruction after exploration
4)u want fiscal federalism yet ur likes said confab is a waste

What a wasteful government! Off what essence is the dinner to the man on the street? Hope they don't start sharing million naira watches as "thanks for coming gifts".
It's amazing how the wife of the dura man seems to have neglected the very people she made political donations to during her campaigns for the dura born! It's amazing that the dura man's wife has refused to identify with the akara sellers on the street to aid them in frying their products as she did during her campaigns!
Obviously now she see's herself as too pompous to hang around the displaced and the poor! Fraudulent and pretentious being like her dullard oga at the top! Shame!

Politics › Buhari’s Wife Gives APC Women, Youths ‘thank-you’ Dinner by HzRF(op): 7:01am On Jun 14, 2015
Wife of the President, Mrs.Aisha Buhari, on Saturday hosted the All Progressives Congress’ women and youths to an elaborate reception at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mrs.Buhari organised the event tagged “Appreciation Dinner” to thank APC stakeholders for working for her husband’s victory in the March 28 presidential election.

The large hall inside the Banquet Hall was filled beyond capacity with flamboyantly-dressed women drawn from all states of the federation.

The hall was tastefully decorated with the white and blue colours of the APC.

The APC Women Leader, Mrs.Ramatu Tijani, delivered the welcome address in which she advised that the party leadership must ensure that they deliver on the change they promised Nigerians.

She said the dinner was organised to appreciate those who made the change possible by touring all parts of the country to campaign for the party.

Red luxury buses belonging to the Abuja Urban Mass Transit were used to convey members of different state delegations to the venue.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who was also the Director-General of the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Organisation served as the chairman of the occasion.

At the time the dinner was ongoing, President Muhammadu Buhari was in Johannesburg, South Africa where he is currently taking part in the ongoing African Union Summit.

Buhari and his family as well as the family of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have yet to relocate to the Presidential Villa.

Those who attended the dinner included wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo; wife of the President of the Senate, Mrs. Toyin Saraki; wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Gimbia Dogara; wife of the National Chairman of the APC, Mrs. Victoria Odigie-Oyegun; wives of APC state governors, APC female deputy governors; wives of former governors on the platform of the party and other top officials of the party across the country.

A national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was represented by Senator Babafemi Ojudu.

The dinner which started at 8.15pm with the arrival of the President’s wife was still ongoing at the time of filing this report

Politics › Dino Melaye’s Group Aborted Scheduled Meeting With President Buhari – Fashakin by HzRF(op): 11:46pm On Jun 13, 2015
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to have belly-ache over the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President in last week’s National Assembly elections, facts further emerged that there was actually a meeting scheduled for reconciliation to be presided by President Muhammad Buhari on Tuesday, the very day of elections.

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress and a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct CPC, Mr Tunde Fashakin in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST National Assembly Correspondent today confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was actually billed to host the meeting of all Senators and House of Representative members elect as at then to reconcile leadership logjam of groups involved, but to the party’s dismay, few of them numbering about 53 senators only attended.

He clarified that it was not appropriate for Mr President to attend to only those ones, thus making it look as if he would be pitching tent with them while he should be the leader of all.

He said that based on this wisdom, Buhari decided to tarry for further development only for the election to hold outside some Senators.

Yesterday, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, DAILY POST observed that the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in company of large number of APC chieftains including Ahmed Joda, Chairman, Presidential Transition Committee looked worried and making desperate calls for long hours in front of the car park.

Few minutes after they had left, impeccable source disclosed that the APC National Working Committee has reviewed what transpired that brought Dr Bukola Saraki into being the Senate President and resolved that the party will recognize his leadership, but put Senator Ike Ekweremadu on probation in view of the mood of the nation.

The sources close to the party hierarchy revealed that it would not consider punitive measure for the likes of Senator Melaye and his co-travelers for now in the interest of stability of the party.

APC makes u-turn, accepts Saraki as Senate President
It would be recalled that Senator Melaye denied having knowledge of any scheduled meeting of APC Senators with Buhari in a press conference this week at the National Assembly and said the agitation of Barnabas Gemade led group in favour of Ahmed Lawan was peddling the name of Mr. President for subterranean motives.

Politics › Unpaid Salaries: Fresh Protest Rocks Osogbo by HzRF(op): 3:33pm On Jun 12, 2015
Human rights activists, some workers and the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties staged a protest on Friday to express their displeasure over the unpaid salaries of workers in Osogbo.

The protesters marched from Igbona area to Olaiya Junction where they addressed journalists.

The protest at the junction caused a traffic snarl but the presence of policemen at the scene was able to ensure orderliness.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions such as:, Pay workers and pensioners their entitlements; Aregbesola, bring back our money, the protesters said they had to use June 12 Day to rally support for the workers who they described as oppressed.

The Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, Mr. Sulaiman Alimi, said in an interview with journalists, that Govern0r Rauf Aregbesola had failed the people of the state.

He said that blaming the past government for the financial crisis in the state was an act of irresponsibility on the part of the current administration.

He called on the governor to resign, saying he should no longer continue in office since he could not find solution to the problem which he claimed was created by the governor.

He said, ” I want to say it emphatically that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has failed the people of Osun State because he created this by mismanaging the allocation which accrued to the state. This is why he has not been able to pay workers for seven to eight months°

” I am using this medium to advise Aregbesola, to resign honourably from office before he will be sent out of Osun State back to Lagos where he and his allies came from. Aregbesola has failed in running the affairs of the state and the people can no longer bear the untold hardship any longer.”

In a related development, the Osun Civil Societies Coalition which is an umbrella body of pressure groups in the state has called on the Osun State Government to devise means of paying the salaries of worker in the state civil service in the spirit of June 12 celebration.

The coalition which expressed its sympathy at the workers’ despondent condition over the nonpayment of their six-month salaries stated that it would be cruel and ungodly to celebrate June 12 when the masses are hungry in the state.

The Publicity Secretary of the coalition, Mr. Ismaeel Uthman, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Friday.

He stated that hunger and poor health ravaging the state workers were undeniable as a result of the nonpayment of their salaries.

Uthman said, ” We sympathize with the workers in Osun state over their unpaid salaries; we acknowledged how difficult life has been for them because some of the members of the coalition are in the state civil service. We know life has not been easy at all.

“We dedicate this year June 12 to the Osun workers; to specially call on Governor Rauf Aregbesola to timely find solution to the nonpayment of the workers’ salaries. A hungry man is an angry man and there is no appeal for someone that is hungry. Aregbesola should act fast before hunger leads to death.”

The governor had earlier denied the allegation of insensitivity and financial recklessness being leveled against him over the salary issue.

He said, ” This administration remains very sensitive to the welfare of Osun workers. The financial situation of that has made it unable for the state government to pay workers’ salary is disheartening and painful.

“However, no one can establish a single instance of recklessness on the part of this government.

“Those who want to accuse Aregbesola of not thinking enough on how to generate more funds should also ask how his government was able to raise IGR from N300m to N1.5bn in a spate of four years.

“One major thing common to most of the commentators asking Aregbesola to resign is that they are not ready to place what is happening side-by-side the state of Osun before the Aregbesola administration and where Osun is today in terms of the physical infrastructure.(because Na physical infrastructure we go chop)
