Who is Iyabo Oyawale? And I'm not particularly enthused with the business product of Efe Imiren. Not saying its bad or anything, just not my own way of what I would like. |
Thank you all so much for this thread. Over the last two days I have read everything and I can only ask where have I been since? Please don't stop now o, lets all keep contributing, you have no idea who it might help. Late congrats to Tgirl on your beautiful baby girl. I also wish sistawoman would come back, learnt a lot from her posts. These days are just evil, heard recently of a 5 year old boy fingering girls in his class while the other members of the class looked on. Heard also of little girls of between 4 and 6 years old, opening their friends pants to put stickers on them. We all really need to be watchful, careful and more prayerful. |
With regards the navel thing, please note that cleaning it regularly ( i think the midwives advise twice daily) with spirit is just what you need. Please don't worry unnecessarily over this, as long as you are not exposing the baby to sand, filth and any source of infection. The sweating thing is a bit of a worry, because you dont want the child dehydrated as someone has said. Many times in Nigeria we so bundle up babies even in seriously hot weather, one can only wonder. Please stop stifling the child in blankets and what have you. The rule of thumb to go by is dress up your baby in the same layering that you are wearing except for extreme circumstances where you may need to add an extra layer. Please note that if you are worried for anything, you should contact the hospital. Don't worry, doctors and nurses are used to seeing a lot of new mothers (don't know if you are) very very frequently in the first few months. |
Just so you know all the idiotic talk of he respected the other girl is just what it is, an idiotic talk that guys such as himself use to sleep around. If he truly respected her, why was he all over you only after a few days. Please don't let anybody demean you or reduce you self esteem. The same human being will be wanting a virgin as wife in a couple of years (if he isnt married already) |
@OP, someone nice with $1bn. ![]() |
^^ ^at Reproduce! If truly you are in an arranged marriage, nothing spoil but you must know that you have to woo her just as if you wanted to marry her. |
Truly I think you are the problem. Why do you want to turn her into a social animal if she is obviously not? Not everyone is outgoing, some people are extreme introverts. The only place to draw a line is where she is shutting you out. It may be because you have been using the wrong approaches to make her bond with you and that is remediable. Take her out, just you and her, during those few times you do copulate, talk and talk until there's nothing to talk about (women usually like to talk at those times). Above all my humble opinion and advice is let your wife be her own person. |

Recently I read an ebony magazine on the same issue. I think it was the July edition, not too sure now. Its a global problem. But my take is take away the money and see if the love remains. In the ebony story, the guy, though very rich decided to live in an apartment downtown rather than his mansion for a while and changed his living standard somewhat until he was sure of the babe and then revealed his true financial situation. The babe was angry for a bit but he made her understand that he did it because he had fallen too often into the hands of golddiggers. Anyway, long story short, if she demands money, either don't give or reduce amount given, dont keep buying her stuff for a while and see if situation becomes different. In my Opinion! |
It probably means she does not feel the same way just as she has told you. How about you move ahead? |
IF he does not listen, simply go to your doctor together. |
In my opinion, it is necessary for couples to have their own time to do whatever they want to do without the other person breathing down their neck. i believe it helps to reinforce the marriage. Women especially need this time particularly if they have children, they just need their own time off to do their own thing while the dad can experience the joy of being around the kids all day. Couples should also have private times away from the kids too, to do things they enjoy, not only at night ![]() |
So sorry about your situation and having to deal with what the family will think inspite of the pains you all must be going through at this time. Like has been said, fulfil your ma's wish, but try and carry your relations along. |
@eewule, you would be surprised. There are kids like these on the streets of lagos hawking. Its really a bad situation but one that may continue for a long time due to all the various problems in our society that have been highlighted, but really its a sad thing. |
Congratulations! |
I remember the sleep deprivation feeling when breastfeeding my little tots too. For like 3 years I felt like I had not had a good night sleep (heck, even now I still dont get a full night's sleep). But it will soon be over. |
Does the baby sleep in your bed? Maybe that's what your husband is complaining about? But that you should not feed the baby ke? No way. Please feed the baby o. He eats cos he's hungry. The food digests in 3-4 hours, so he gets hungry fast. When he starts on solids, you can ensure that he gets a good dinner so that he wakes up maybe only once in the night. But look on the bright side, all of this will soon be over and you will look back and be happy that you did the best for your child. |
Laura, a tribe in Nigeria have a saying : pasan ta fi na yale, ori aja lo wa. Meaning, "the stick used to beat the first wife is kept on the roof" or something close. What that means literally is that the same treatment meted out to the previous wife is what the next one will get. Or very simply put, what goes around always comes around. |
I listen only when driving too. Even then I am usually flipping through stations for news and interesting discussions as most times, it just music on most stations. I wish we had a business radio. |
Does anyone know where I can get cakes boxes or have them made? |
Yay! My post made it to the front page. Thanks all for the sensible posts and for the non-sensible ones, well, what can one say, this is nairaland. Please more ideas. I am currently in Lagos. The baking thing and the writing freelance for newspapers sound interesting. I like the idea of baking but must it be only cakes or chin-chin, what if i do apple pies and stuff, do you guys think you would buy or better still what would you be interested in buying? Then the newspaper thing, I can write but I am not sure I know how to reach newspapers to buy into the idea. |
house to home has some, but i'm also looking for a place that stores kid furniture in Lagos. |
If you decide to resign from your present job in order to have more time for your kids, what business would you do? I have administrative experience and nothing else. |
I also feel that your wife also has things on her mind, maybe she has highlighted them to you in the past and you ignored them or maybe she didn't. There is only one solution to the problem, heart to heart discussion on what has happened and how you guys can make it work. You both need each other. Forget all the things she has been doing, we women like to form, she wants you to know she is not happy with you. So the thing is to find out why. Kidnap her if you have to (I mean that in a loving manner o), but plan it, execute it, have the kids stay with friends/relatives for a day or two, but get her to a serene atmosphere where you both can really let your hairs down, get angry, cry, talk and resolve issues and make firm commitments to move forward. |
Each time my babies tried to start sucking, I would start putting socks and mittens on their fingers and I would remove their finger from their mouths every time they tried sucking. It worked everytime. They don't suck. The deal is to be consistent in preventing them whatever means you choose. |
Good decision. Congrats. |
I really don't know if this is true, but thought we might find it interesting.

are you married or getting married in a month's time? don't understand this at all. |
1) Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble; it is a "steering wheel" that directs us in the right path throughout life. 2) Do you know why a car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the rear view mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on. 3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years )to write. 4) All things in life are temporary. If going well enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong don't worry, they can't last long either. 5) Old friends are like Gold! New friends are Diamonds! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a base of Gold! 6) Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end! 7) When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision." 9) When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you. 10) WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES; it takes away today's PEACE. |
@poster, counting calories will be most difficult as with many eating suggestions that have been laid out here albeit good-intentioned. Why? like you rightly said, what will you eat if you can;t eat amala, eba etc. Also I doubt that pyramid.gov can tell you the number of calories in edikaikong and fufu So my suggestion is portion control and exercise. you can join me in the drop dress sizes challenge on |
thanks iyatrustee but I'm not sure we want to go that route, we are more interested in direct impact. thanks though. |
