Endy10:this is wrong and a common misconception, aggression is not a bad trait in dogs even the most well trained military dogs are aggressive. in the k9 unit, the dogs are sorted out and the one's that are not aggressive are fired because they cannot guard, attack or protect properly. aggression is being violent or being willing to be violent, if you want to define a term you have to use the dictionary definition and not the one you heard people say or came up with yourself. an aggressive dog can also be a balanced well trained dog, aggression doesn't mean uncontrollable or having a short fuse. any dog that shows signs of violence or is violent is an aggressive dog and a dog cannot be a guard dog without being violent or willingness to be violent. no guard dog will smile and kindly ask intruders to leave, guard dogs bark at intruders and bite if necessary which is automatically aggression. aggression is also quite normal In a lot of breeds, it's not a dangerous taboo in dogs. you can effectively train an aggressive dog and have a well balanced dog that obeys orders and still attacks intruders if necessary. if your dog barks at people (willingness to be violent) or charges at people to attack them(being violent) and you're saying your dog is not aggressive as a way to say your dog is not a mad dog then you are very wrong |
Toju200:he looks good for his age, I like his fur it looks soft and nice |
Greenarrow01:it's true, if you want to take a decent pic of your dog you have to bend small because human height difference will make any dog look tiny |
Dreazy23:okay no problem send me a message when you can |
Dreazy23:yeah different parts of his body started becoming bigger since he turned 10 months old. it started with his chest, one day I just noticed how wide his chest became and now it seems the wideness has spread to other parts lol. about the parvo thing, around this time parvo cases are more frequent it's usually called parvo season so the best thing is to keep your dog inside till the harmattan is over. I've already seen multiple dogs die this period this year, keep your dog safe. |
Toju200:lmao thank you ooh |
And one of the reasons i wasn't able to update also was because we had some visitors that came to stay over for sometime and Roscoe was being too aggressive towards them so he had to be locked up throughout the time they were around. Even when we free him at night he'll go to the room where they are to bark at them through the window, even if they are in the parlour he'll stand up and be looking through the window to bark at them. Or if they go outside into the compound the way he stands up on his hindlegs and claws at the bars on his kennel while barking angrily at them even frightens me. That's why we had to keep him locked up to avoid any accidents. I honestly don't know why he was overly aggressive to them...he's met them before at 4 months so I was hoping he'll be at least a little bit familiar with them. Maybe he could sense that nobody was happy with the visitor's presence (the holiday was not well planned for so we were all hoping they'd leave soon, you know how it goes ).Anyways, I got a new chicken and so far he has been good with it, he bullies it once on a while and plays with it too but nothing too lethal has happened so there's progress. By Wednesday I'll get more chickens to join let's see how he'll get accustomed to them ![]()

So we're back from the hiatus ![]() Sorry for the delay, I've been very busy and I haven't been frequent at home. Roscoe has been doing well, anytime I come back I try to play with him and exercise him since he's no longer going on walks(I won't be taking him out until next year because of the parvo outbreak during this season). I was considering starting a personal poultry at home so I got a young chicken to start. Roscoe was playing with the chicken and he refused to leave it alone. He kept biting it but he wasn't doing it hard enough to kill it. He was also barking at it and trying to make it run so he'll chase it. I had to tie the chicken somewhere and block it with something to keep him away from it, it worked for a few days until I saw this one day, the chicken escaped and he got to it first before I even knew. After that i decided to teach him how to control himself around chickens

Dreazy23:I sent you a message on Whatsapp let's talk about bailey |
drchuks1234:don't mind him abeg, your dog is nice, the legs were obviously wet and I don't see anything wrong with the grooming. he just wants to throw unnecessary shady comments for attention |
vincentjk:nice meal, I love the way you feed your dogs, your home cooked recipes are very nice. even as you don't rely on commercial dog food this your feeding pattern is solid already |
sassysure:so he should train the dog to pee in toilet? where do you think dogs pee if not on top surfaces? |
Eddy000:this is also true which is why I said it depends on the dog, I've seen kangals kill pitbulls and sometimes I've seen the kangal maul the pit bull throughout the fight and get bored and walk away, what I've never seen is a pit bull bring down a kangal or maim a kangal or even do any damage to a kangal. if the kangal is really serious it can kill the pit bull if it wants, sometimes the kangal might not want to and it can just maul it and dump it. so it goes like this, either the kangal will kill the pitbull or it'll maul the pitbull throughout the fight and decide to let it go and walk away, it's never the other way around, it depends on the dog's intentions and you're right about the way the fights are judged unfairly ![]() the bigger dog will bring the pitbull down in seconds and stay on top it mauling it throughout the fight but if by chance the pitbull survives and the bigger dog gets bored after several minutes of mauling and walks away they celebrate the pitbull as the winner even as it has took the most casualty and it was overpowered throughout the fight. if the fights were put in rounds, the pitbull will loose several rounds. or if it were judged by who actually fought better and did more damage too the pitbull would loose |
Eddy000:the thing is that these big dogs are more lethal and more powerful than pitbulls but they don't fight for too long. these kind of dogs only fight for short periods of time most of the time by nature because that's how they were designed to be, they cause as much damage as they can in a short time and ward the intruding predator away. meanwhile pitbulls were bred for dog fights so they are designed to last long even as they won't do as much damage, they can just hold on and keep on struggling for even an hour. so if the fight is to last too long, the other dog might get bored or tired and leave and the pitbull will be declared the winner for just staying on it's back and barking for an hour. there's this Tibetan mastiff that fought a gray wolf almost to the point of death, the gray wolf skinned the Tibetan mastiff's back but the Tibetan mastiff won at the end but unfortunately died due to the severe injuries. the fight lasted for lemme say 20mins but the damage done within that time was very severe. a pitbull fight can just be the two of them holding each other and struggling for an hour and at the end most times the two of them walk away intact with few injuries. I doubt a pitbull can kill any if those breeds you mentioned no matter how exhausted the dog is but if the big dog is inexperienced and the fight lasts too long and we should use professional dog fighting rules then the pitbull will be declared the winner even as it took the most damage and it was on it's back throughout the fight. I've never seen a pitbull stand a boerbel, kangal,Caucasian, Tibetan mastiff e.t.c attack, it always goes down immediately they collide and it remains there till the end, I've seen the big dogs kill the pitbulls and I've seen them get tired of mauling them and walk away but I've never seen a pitbull actually put one of those breeds to the ground or even maimed one. so in a way, I agree with Eveezy , a pitbull cannot stand any of those dogs but if it's lucky and it's paired with a dog that isn't a gambred fighter and the fight lasts for too long then the pitbull might win by default if it's still alive |
Ramlette:besides, if you want to use the biggest dog from the breed to brag, hulk isn't up to YUSHU the biggest Tibetan mastiff who weighs almost twice the size of hulk. hulk weighs 150pounds while YUSHU weighs 250pounds. Caucasians can grow up to 110-220 pounds leonbergers reach 170pounds i can write a long list of dogs that grow bigger than hulk ![]() hulk's size is basically the size of a Neapolitan mastiff or leonberger, even some mastiffs grow up to that size or bigger than that, forget the pictures that they snap and post online to exaggerate his size. get his actual weight and do the math yourself
|
Ramlette:lmao you're using hulk as an example of pitbull? isn't hulk the biggest pitbull in the world? do you think pittbulls grow like that? a pitbull weighs 16-30kg and a gsd weighs 30-40kg use your head to calculate the size of an average pitbull this is what an actual pitbull looks like
|
Toju200:lmao |
Greenarrow01:training him is still possible though you can text me on Whatsapp I'll see if I can give you some tips |
Goldicon2:by height it's great Dane by weight its English mastiff |
Goldicon2:I never said it wasn't read what I typed again |
Greenarrow01:well sorry to break the news to you but if you wanted a dog that'll act like how you're describing then a Caucasian shepherd isn't what you should have gotten ![]() they are very stubborn dogs no matter how well trained they are and I don't think 3weeks is enough to train an 8 month Caucasian to behave like a military dog. training a Caucasian shepherd is a full time job, and they still won't act like how you want except you do it frequently and for long. and I don't think walking him without leash in a crowded place is a good idea because people might get scared and act a certain way that can trigger him to attack, not every dog is stable enough for that exercise. you can still train him tho but he won't pick everything well till he's mature, some commands you want him to learn are too advanced for his age(he's just 8 months right?). I can give you a few tips but don't expect too much from a puppy. and I'm very sure the trainer's dog isn't a Caucasian or 8 months old, the breed and age of your dog has to be considered during training send me a message on Whatsapp p.s tarik looks nice, I've seen his parents he's growing well |
vincentjk:lmao I'm coming soon |
vincentjk:his body matches his age, boerbels aren't really bulky around this age. he's doing good and he looks good ![]() I think I need to update my thread too |
Eddy000:thanks for this, it's annoying the way people carry the name pitbull like it's a superdog, it's not even in the top 15 strongest or lethal dogs. they just jump on American media hype, it's an American dog and most Americans that hype it don't know about other European dogs but Nigerians that have seen powerful dogs will still blind themselves and bandwagon on media hype. |
Goldicon2:first of all,Tibetan mastiffs aren't the biggest dog breed they are either the same size with Caucasian shepherds or slightly smaller. secondly, if it was an adult champion pitbull vs an adult champion Tibetan mastiff the pitbull will still be in the same position do you know what a Tibetan mastiff is? also do you know about pitbulls or do you just know the name? |
Dreazy23:just train her and channel the aggression into other things, socialize her too and her head will level down. I started playing tug of war with Roscoe and also some rough play where I pad my hands and make him attack me like we're fighting till he gets rid of the excess energy and calms down. I also took him outside sometimes to sniff around and walk around the area with me, that also works in making the dog more focused. with time she'll calm down but the aggression will always be there, she'll just be less reckless. don't try to chain her or lock her up too much because you're just going to create a problem for yourself, just engage her in exercise and play and with time she'll calm down and start thinking properly. I still do the rough play till date (I even did it this morning), sometimes if he hasn't been walked for a while he starts misbehaving again so I wrestle with him or play tug of war and he'll relax later on. right now he's relaxing after the session we had this morning. I know you're wondering if you'll get bitten during the wrestling ![]() well when she's a puppy she can't control her bites so she'll definitely injure you hence the wrapping your hands with things. when she grows up and she can control her bites then you'll be less at risk. right now I can wrestle with Roscoe with short sleeves without pads and not get scratched even as he bites my hands and drags them because he can control the intensity of the bite ![]() |
Dreazy23:because of the socialisation you've been giving him ![]() if you wanted to train your dog like how your friend is advising, Rex would have been like how that dog is on the thread, embarrassing you on the road as he's trying to attack every living thing. just don't overdo the socialisation too tho, don't walk him outside too often and don't make him feel he can easily trust strangers, don't let people that aren't family pet and play with him too much outside or inside the compound. if you want to exercise him you can also do it inside the compound too, formal walks shouldn't be done too often, playing and running in the compound works as exercise too |
Dreazy23:he will attack when he's older, he's still a pup |
Dreazy23:ask him if he can take the dog anywhere or go for any dog walk event or even go see a vet. does that kind of dog seem like something that's good now? my dog is still very aggressive to intruders like his but the difference is that mine is level headed when he needs to be, I can walk him comfortably, noise and crowds don't trigger him and he knows when to be aggressive and when to be calm and when to attack. which type of behaviour would you prefer your dog having? |
do you want this for Rex?
e.g of lack of socialisation
https://www.nairaland.com/5548789/wild-dog#84356057 |
Dreazy23:that show's he's well socialized, you should be happy he's calm like this outside, do you want to be dragging with a dog on the road?,not every dog owner has that convenience ![]() if you want to test him then chain him and get someone he doesn't know to enter the compound and take something and see how he'll react. because he's stable outside doesn't mean he has forgotten his territoriality |
Toju200:this is true too, Roscoe still attacks people that played with him when he was a puppy during the time I used to take him to visit my neighbours and buy things from shops. if they try to enter the compound he goes into attack mode no matter who the person is or when they met because the compound is his territory and they are not family instead they are acquaintances |
