Dreazy23: Good evening everyone, I want to make enquiries on something:
Do you think daily walks makes Caucasians familiarize with people. Someone said if a Caucasian keeps seeing a particular person even without contact the dog tends to Know the person after a giving period (basically the person said I give Rex the opportunity to see alot of people, so he would probably be less aggressive) socialisation makes a dog balanced not less aggressive, I guess what the person meant by "less aggressive" is that your dog won't bark at everything on the road and try to attack people randomly which I think no responsible dog owner would want. you have a Caucasian Shepherd, keeping a dog like that locked up without socialisation is a huge no because they have the tendency to become reckless and overly aggressive if they haven't been properly trained. when rex is an adult and you're walking him do you think you'll be able to hold him back if he tries to attack someone randomly on the road? Roscoe has been going on walks since he was 6-7 weeks old, then I used to take him with me to buy stuff in my street, he has seen all my neighbours and even waited with me to talk to some people during our walks but he has tried to attack every single person that has come over to my compound. I can walk with him at any time of the day and when I stop to talk to someone he'll sit and wait for me to finish, I even walk with him through street parties and crowded roads, even through traffic without issues, isn't that better than keeping a dog that you cannot leave your house with because of reckless behavior? he's still as aggressive and territorial as ever but he's more organized and he can read humans better because he has seen people severally, he can tell between a harmless friend and a threat even on the road and he attacks some sketchy people he suspects. just make sure when you walk him you don't let people play or pet him, just let him stay by your side and follow you around, if you continue like that then you'll sew how less stressful taking him around will be. if you want a wild animal that you cannot leave your house with that'll just be barking at people in your compound then stop socialisation, if you want a smart dog that can be calm even in noisy or crowded places and you can take anywhere without worrying about random attacks then socialize your pup |

Dreazy23: Thanks, the picture didn't do justice to his size though lol true, it's only the people that the dogs live that can testify to the size, pics don't do justice most times especially if you get a bad angle |
Pets › Re: Chronicle Of Rex And Roxy by IamAnderson(m): 8:31pm On Dec 11, 2019 |
Toju200: Nice.. I would start uploading Sparks pics by Christmas.... Yours has a furier tail.. Infact all Caucasian I've seen both on nairaland and outside has fury and curved tail.. But spark own is less curved and fury it's similar to dat if GSDs he's also six months... the tail is supposed to be sickle shaped when the dog is excited or alert. sometimes the tail falls down if the dog is relaxed. if his tail isn't like that then he probably has gsd blood in him, I'm not sure sha maybe his own tail isn't as high set as most Caucasians. I've seen an adult Caucasian with very good quality that had a low set tail even when excited, it didn't mean he wasn't pure bred, it was just how the dog is |

don't you think going to a vet is better than random nairalanders diagnosing a dog without even seeing a pic? |

ceeceeco: I'm not scared of dogs, rather I try to be patient/careful with unfriendly dogs & get friendly with them. I trust dogs a lot more than human. this is a wise thing to do I don't approach any dog that isn't mine or I have a relationship with with haste. I keep my distance and remain alert, you don't know how the dog was brought up, it's the safe thing to do. |

vincentjk: Fine then, though gsds are not small nor short at all
They're large breed true but they don't have weight, you can lift an adult gsd from the floor with your hands. I'd rather be scared of a mastiff, rott or cauc, those breeds are physically stronger with deadlier bites and you can't easily push them off because of their weight. even if you climb them they can throw you off |

vincentjk: You're yet to meet with a craze dog then I don't fear any dog I weigh more than, any dog smaller than a gsd doesn't even make my heart beat faster, I only avoid dogs bigger than that. no matter how aggressive a dog is, you can defeat it if you're not afraid and if you are fast and strong enough. avoid the teeth and you'll be fine, a dog cannot harm you without it's teeth you should only be afraid when a dog is physically stronger and bigger than you I've never been bitten by a dog but I've fought a number of aggressive dogs |

amizzy48: MY FEMALE GSD BARK EXCESSIVELY AT THE SITE OF A STRANGER IN MY COMPOUND EVEN WHEN I COME OUT TO SEE D PERSON SHE CONTINUE BARKING , MOST TIME WHEN ON CHAIN SHE LOSE HER SELF AS A RESULT FORCE APPLY ON THE CHAIN ,I NW DOUBLE THE CHAIN TO PREVENT HER FRM LOSING IT BUT THE FUNNY ASPECT IS THAT SHE HASN'T BITE ANYBODY EVEN WHEN SHE LOSE HERSELF, SHE ONLY SCARED PEOPLE AWAY WITH HER ACTION AND BARKING, SHE RESPECT ME VERY WELL AS WELL AS OTHER MEMBERS OF MY HOUSE . MY FEAR NW IS THAT THIS EXCESSIVE BARKING MIGHT AFFECT HER PREGNANCY BY TIME SHE WOULD BE PREGNANT the dog was obviously not socialized, and I can tell she stays on that chain for too long |

Danzakidakura: This environment is not good for that Dog, get her a nice cage away from public view where she wont have contact with people and only free her at night. this is a very terrible idea and it'll worsen the case |
Pets › Re: Food For Caucasian by IamAnderson(m): 10:37am On Dec 09, 2019 |
patomaniac: Good day all,
I have a 9month caucasian dog. What can i feed it or do to make his coat shine brighter and for it to grow big.
I need new foods i can easily get, currently i feed him indomie, can foods and dry foods also(kibbles).
Advise urgently needed.
Thanks your dog's diet is already good, if you want it's coat to shine then give it one raw egg a day or cod liver oil. and also, grooming your dog regularly helps it's coat to do well |

Lonelypacifist6: Hello petlanders, I've this Dog that doesn't eat as a dog should sometimes she wastes the food I've asked to be given to her, Note this is traditional pet food or cooked human food, If I'm around I've to hand feed her myself, She goes Days without eating sometimes. I'm afraid now because I'll be traveling and I won't be there to do the feeding it she doesn't eat, is there anything I can use to boost her appetite?
Trying to post pictures it not working wtf is wrong with Nairaland you shouldn't just feed dogs dry food like that, most dogs won't eat it except you add some things to it. even if it's human food, try to find out what she likes e.g meat, fish or egg and mix it with the food you can even add dog wet canned food to the mix to make her eat it. also make sure you deworm your dog regularly, one of the major causes of loss of appetite in puppies is worm infestation |
Pets › Re: Loss Of Appetite In Dog by IamAnderson(m): 10:41am On Dec 04, 2019 |
TrixieC: Hello there. You didn't tell how old is your dog and what is her breed. From my experience, cooked human food sometimes is not suitable for dogs, for example, bread and beans. Also you need to give food to your pet twice per day, in the morning and in the evening. But you shouldn't just leave the bowl filled with food once, it should be cleaned before every meal. Anyway, you should take your dog to a vet, which should tell you what's wrong and suggest a proper diet. If your dog is old and sheds too much then I would recommend checking this article https://doggolab.com/best-food-for-dog-shedding which might help you too. you wrote this whole paragraph without even answering his question or giving him suggestions lol |

okikiosibodu: Finally, here is someone that gets my point. Many of them intend saying "territorial" when they use the word "aggressive" Cc:IamAnderson a dog cannot be a guard dog without being aggressive. aggression is being violent or being willing to be violent, it doesn't mean being reckless and uncontrollable. even the most well trained police dogs are aggressive and can kill on command, they actually drop any dog that doesn't show sign of aggression off the k9 squad. aggression is not a bad thing in dogs, aggression is very normal, it only becomes bad when the dog is reckless and uncontrollable. check my first reply I sent to you about this issue I also attached the definition of aggression, as far as the dog growls, barks or attack it's an aggressive dog. a dog can be aggressive and well balanced and trained. territoriality is being aggressive to intruders that breach your territory, a dog cannot be called territorial without being aggressive, if an intruder steps in it'll either be violent or show willingness to be violent which is defined as aggression it's just that a lot of Nigerians see "aggressive" as dogs that are reckless and uncontrollable which is wrong, a dog can be aggressive and well balanced, aggression isn't a bad trait in dogs. every guard dog is an aggressive dog but not every aggressive dog is a good guard dog |
