The body of a college student allegedly killed by a Nigerian migrant, Ayoola Ajayi, in Utah, USA has been recovered, the police have confirmed, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports the Mackenzie Lueck’s corpse was found in a Utah canyon about 85 miles away from a backyard in Salt Lake City where other remains were found last week. Authorities previously said some of the 23-year-old’s charred remains and personal belongings were found in Ajayi’s backyard in Salt Lake City. The body was discovered Wednesday in Logan Canyon about 85 miles north of the city. “I spoke with Mackenzie’s family this morning. Another devastating call,” Salt Lake City police Chief Mike Brown said at a news conference on Friday. “Despite their grief, we hope this will help them find some closure and justice for Mackenzie,” he said. Lueck disappeared June 17, after she returned from a trip to her hometown of El Segundo, California, for her grandmother’s funeral and took a Lyft from the airport to a park where she met someone. Police say the last person she communicated with was 31-year-old Ajayi, who was also in the park. He’s being held on suspicion of aggravated murder, kidnapping and other crimes. No attorney has been listed for him. Charges have not been filed. Police have not discussed a motive for the killing or how Lueck died. It isn’t clear how Ajayi and Lueck knew each other. Lueck, a part-time senior at the University of Utah studying kinesiology and pre-nursing, was missing for nearly two weeks before Ajayi was arrested. The suspect is an information technology worker who attended Utah State University on and off but never earned a degree and was briefly in the Army National Guard. He has no formal criminal history, but has been previously investigated on a 2014 rape allegation and was arrested in a stolen-iPad case at Utah State in 2012. The arrest and the expiration of his student visa got him banned from the campus for about three years. Born in Nigeria, Ajayi is now a US citizen, police and jail records show. His ex-wife has also told reporters she was afraid of him, and police have investigated a report that he asked a contractor to build a secretive and soundproof room in his home. Senator Elisha Abbo has been granted bail after spending the night in police custody, Igbere TV reports. Mr Abbo, on Thursday, surrendered himself to the Federal Capital Territory Police (FCT) Command for questioning over assault on a nursing mother. The lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District had come under backlash following the release of a video showing how he assaulted the lady at an adult toy shop in Abuja. FCT police commissioner, Bala Ciroma, told newsmen that Abbo was released at noon on Friday after meeting a set of administrative conditions for his bail. Mr Ciroma did not name the bail conditions which the senator met. The embattled legislator had wept and apologised to the woman on Wednesday during a press briefing he organised to address matters over the video. It was gathered that the assault victim was out of Abuja to attend the funeral of a deceased relative. It is not clear if Abbo would be charged to court afterwards. A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture to the Federal Government of jewellery and customised gold iPhone recovered in the premises of a former minister of petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, Igbere TV reports. Justice Nicholas Oweibo gave the order on Friday on the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC had recovered the items which it said was worth $40 million. Counsel to EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, in the motion ex-parte application, said the 2,149 pieces of jewellery comprising wristwatches, necklaces, bracelets, bangles, earrings and gold iPhone were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities of Mrs Allison-Madueke. The commission also said that Allison-Madueke’s known and provable lawful income is far less than the value of the items. The judge granted the application saying it had statutory powers to do so under the provision of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006. Justice Oweibo also ordered EFCC to publish in any national newspaper the interim order of forfeiture to serve as notice to Allison-Madueke or anyone interested in the assets to be forfeited to appear before the court to show cause within 14 days why the assets should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. Proceedings were adjourned until August 13. Source; http://igberetvnews.com/818772/just-in-court-orders-forfeiture-of-diezanis-40m-jewelery-gold-iphone/

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has congratulated Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his emergence as the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Igbere TV reports. Ndudi is the brother to entrepreneur and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu. Umahi, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, made available to Igbere TV on Thursday, also congratulated other members of the House who emerged as principal officers. Drama had ensued at the lower chambers on Wednesday as lawmakers struggled to grab the mace after Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila defied the PDP by naming Mr Elumelu as the House Minority Leader despite PDP choosing Kingsley Chinda for the position. The speaker said the decision to announce Elumelu as minority leader was based on an agreement by several minority parties which PDP is only a part of. Umahi said the emergence of the officers was commendable and wished the newly elected principal officers well in their new assignments. “The unity and progress of Nigeria are bigger than any personal, political or religious interests. “I call on the leadership of the National Assembly to work for Nigeria instead of Nigeria working for them,” he said. Comrade Ebiye Uyaterimor Johnny, a chieftain of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), from Okerenkoko town, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West LGA, Delta State has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari advising the president to only consider verified and registered party members who are faithful to the ideals of the party in the constitution of his cabinet, and other key appointments, Igbere TV reports. Chief Uyaterimor, stated this in his " Open Letter to President Buhari", released to the press on Thursday. While congratulating President Buhari on his sterling performance in the first term, Uyaterimor cautioned against a system where saboteurs are given opportunity to reap where they did not sow, while the real labourers are left empty. "OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR President Federal Republic of Nigeria Aso Villa Abuja 4th July, 2019 A CALL ON PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO APPOINT ONLY VERIFIED AND REGISTERED MEMBERS OF ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS APC IN SOUTH SOUTH FOR FEDERAL APPOINTMENT Mr. President, there is a proverb which says " the worms that eats (destroys) Kolanut are inside the Kolanut", understandabley, and the worms signifies an enemy to the growth and progress of the Kolanut. This was exactly the unfortunate and regretable situation in 2015, when known and loyal members of the opposition party who actually worked against the emergence of President Buhari were secretly recommeded and subsequently appointed to sensitive positions, a mistake that should never be repeated in 2019. Mr. President, in the last four years, you succeeded because God and Nigerians were with you, otherwise the members of opposition party that were mistakenly appointed into your government in 2015, actually made efforts and did everything possible to frustrate your government across the country, particularly in Niger Delta region. Congratulations on your re-election, and the NEXT LEVEL agenda can only be actualised when the right people who are core, verified and registered members of All Progressives Congress APC are appointed to drive the agenda. In the next few weeks and subsequently, you will approve appointments for various positions, however, let me draw your attention to the shameful and anti-party activities by a former Governor in South South region who is in alliance with opposition party to undermine your government in the next four years. This former Governor in South South is collaborating with an ex-militant leader in Delta State, a known supporter of Peoples Democratic Party PDP to secretly infiltrate your government by misleading you to appoint allies of the ex-militant leader into sensitive positions, a repeat of the 2015 mistake. From 1999 to 2015, when the Peoples Democratic Party PDP was in power, I am not aware that the PDP government then appointed any member of opposition party into the government, it was PDP members all the way. So, it is still surprising, how the APC government in 2015, appointed members of the opposition party to head sensitive positions, which was responsible for the painful frustrations, setback experienced by your government between 2015 and 2019. As usual, after elections come harvest (appointments). Mr. President, please be guided accordingly, all persons to be recommended or nominated for federal appointments must be verified to be duly registered members of APC, and must be cleared by the All Progressives Congress APC, from National Working Committee NWC, Zonal Working Committee, State Working Committee, Local Government, Ward Executive and Unit Executive. This is necessary because people should not be given undue opportunity to reap from where they didn't sow. Mr. President, it will interest you to know that this former Governor in South South is going about and pushing for the appointment of a known member of the opposition party who was a member of the Presidential Campaign Organization of an opposition party in the just concluded Presidential election. These are people that worked against Mr. President and APC in the last Presidential election, therefore, it is very difficult to explain why a former Governor who is an APC prominent leader in South South would be pushing for the appointment of members of opposition party into the APC government. Mr. President, any list emanating from South South for federal appointments must be thoroughly investigated and names of persons on such list should be subjected to not just APC NWC , but also the EFCC and relevant security agencies scrutiny. Persons and members of opposition party who sworn to work against President Buhari and actually mobilized resources to ensure President Buhari and APC does not win Delta State in the just concluded Presidential and Governorship elections cannot be allowed to be appointed by President Buhari. I am appealing to all APC leaders in South South to be careful not to betray President Buhari by their actions. Projecting or recommending registered and verified members of opposition party, especially the People's Democratic Party PDP in South South to President Buhari for federal appointment is an act betrayal. Mr. President, very importantly, please ensure that all nominations for appointments for Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Office of Presidential Amnesty Programme, NIMASA, are verified and registered members of All Progressives Congress APC in South South region, as doing so will help to compliment and facilitate your laudable agenda and efforts to the development of Niger Delta region. Finally, and once again, I congratulate you on your re-election victory and also commend your efforts toward the development of the Niger Delta region. God bless you SIGNED: Comrade Ebiye Uyaterimor Johnny APC Chieftain, Okerenkoko town, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West LGA, Delta State. The pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, has said that he does not see the need for special courts to prosecute corruption cases in the country, Igbere TV reports. Mr Ribadu said this in a tweet on Thursday in response to a question about his thoughts on special courts for corruption cases, Igbere TV reports. Ribadu said if special courts are established for corruption cases, Nigerians will in no time demand special court for kidnappers. “I’ve always been against special courts for corruption. Generally, I don’t agree with ad hoc arrangement for every problem. We’ve tried that in the past, it didn’t work. If you consent to that maybe next you’ll see people advocating for special court for kidnappers & it goes on,” he said. The former EFCC boss said there was no serious fight against corruption in the country until the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. “Nothing much has happened in terms of commitment and results before this administration. Even if you don’t agree with this govt you can’t take away the glaring successes attained in this area. The recoveries and convictions are unprecedented,” Ribadu said. He said his biggest achievement in EFCC was creating an enduring imstitution that would outlast governments. “Our biggest achievement I’d say is building an enduring institution that is still serving the country. It also remains a testimony that with a clear vision & solid foundation institutions can be built and last. I remain proud of what @officialEFCC is,” he said. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the assault of a woman by a senator elected on its platform, Elisha Abbo, of Adamawa North, Igbere TV reports. In a statement made available to Igbere TV Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it was shocked that the victim was a nursing mother ‘who ought to be protected’. The party’s presidential candidate in February 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, had earlier called on the party to discipline Abbo. “The PDP, as a law-abiding and upstanding party, detests and completely condemn such act of lawlessness and callousness as exhibited in the video and will therefore never condone it. “Our party is also shocked that the harmless victim of the unprovoked assault is said to be a nursing mother, who ought to be protected. “Though this is a personal conduct of an individual which has no bearing with the culture of our party, the PDP however holds that no responsible person will condone such an attitude. “In the light of this, the NWC has commenced investigation into the matter and summons Senator Elisha Abbo in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP and code of conduct of our members. “In the same vein, the party has taken note of the immediate action taken by the Senate. “The PDP, at all levels of engagement, is reputed for her utmost respect and commitment towards the rights, safety and wellbeing of our citizens, particularly our women and cannot tolerate any callous assault on any Nigerian,” the party’s statement said. This was contained in a press release signed by Yusuf Idris, Director-General, Press Affairs to Gov. Bello Matawalle, and made available to journalists in Gusau on Sunday. It said that the governor made the revelation when he received former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon at the Government House, Gusau on Saturday. The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has warned governors in the south-west region against providing land for herdsmen to breed cattle, Igbere TV reports. Adams on Thursday at the South West Security Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, called the governors by their names and asked them to be proactive about the issue. The monarch rebuked the governors for ignoring his letters and calls to take proactive steps on the matter. “Nobody can take Yoruba land or constitute nuisance in south-west because Yoruba have been living peacefully for the past 120 years, so the incursion of criminally-minded people will no longer be accepted. “History will not forgive any south-west governor that gives land to herdsmen for the breeding of their cattle because the issue of insecurity is now overwhelming. “We are not only talking about south-west alone, we are talking about everywhere Yoruba live, including Kogi and Kwara states. All hands must be on deck to curb insecurity because the progress of Yoruba land should be a collective effort of all of us,” Adams said. Immediate past minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has been scheduled to appear before a Federal High Court, Abuja, to explain his role in the alleged misapplication of N2.5 billion Federal Government Digital Switch-Over (DSO) programme, Igbere TV reports. Mr Mohammed’s expected appearance was revealed by the Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who is prosecuting the director general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Ishaq Kawu, over an alleged abuse of office and money laundering. ICPC had filed a 12-count charge before Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo-Giwa, against Kawu, Lucky Omoluwa and Dipo Onifade, the chairman and chief operating officer of Pinnacle Communications Limited respectively, saying that the NBC director general misled the former minister into approving government funds to a private company. Mohammed’s involvement, the ICPC said, had come under questioning following discovery that a government white paper that governs the execution of the DSO programme was allegedly flouted by the head of NBC. Mohammed had however admitted in a statement to the Commission that he was misled by Kawu, as opined in court by a witness from ICPC, Osanato Olugbemi. Olugbemi, led in evidence by counsel to ICPC, Henry Emore, also told the court that the payment of N2.5 billion from NBC to Pinnacle Communications Limited, as seed grant was suspicious because ICPC found out through its investigations that only government owned company was approved to benefit from the grant according to the White Paper. The court also heard that the processes that led to the final payment of the fund to the private company were shrouded in secrecy as revealed by the minute from an NBC emergency board management meeting where issues of carriage fees owed Pinnacle and not seed grant was discussed. He told the court that 47 suspicious transactions were originated by the Chairman of Pinnacle Communications, Omoluwa, immediately after the receipt of the funds on June 2, 2017. The transactions includes payments of N363 million to one Idowu Olatunde, N274.4 million to one James Segun and N127 million to Dipo Onifade, the chief operating officer of the company. He informed the court that Omoluwa refused to explain the reasons for the payments to Olatunde and James when asked by ICPC, but Onifade explained that he received the N127 million as legal fees he rendered to Pinnacle Communications Limited. A bureau de change operator, Salisu Mamman Daura, who also testified in court, said he received N167 million in two instalments of N97 million and N70 million respectively, from Pinnacle Communications Limited. Daura added that the sums were converted into $265, 000 and $195, 735 respectively, at the rate of N360 to an American dollar, and handed in cash to one Alhaji Sabo, supposedly on behalf of Pinnacle Communications. Counsel to the accused persons, Alex Iziyon (SAN), A Yusuf and A. V. Etuwewe for Omoluwa, Onifade, Kawu and Pinnacle Communications respectively, took turns to cross-examine both witnesses after which the matter was adjourned to July 1, 2019 for continuation of trial and ruling on two pending motions by the trial judge.
