What everyone can attest to is that Iran's nuclear program is not completely destroyed.
If anything, it will continue unimpeded but away from the watchful eyes of IAEA inspectors.
Those who would have balked at this in the past, including Russia, now welcome it.

To your last statement, Iran signed the JCPOA deal and adhered to it.
The Arak reactor is a testament to this.
In fact, Iran kept adhering to the deal after the US left until a year later when Israel influenced Trump to start making maximalist demands.
Biden came and continued to push Trump's maximalist demands.
Iran's red lines still remain at the end of the war as it was at the start.

That article lays out that Iran does have the capacity to get a nuclear bomb at any time.
Pakistan transferred complete designs and processes to Iran and North Korea.

Iran wants to be the ME Japan.
To be Japan, it must retain the ability to enrich uranium.
Israel fiercely opposes this.

Trump had agreed to this Japan settlement at the start of his second term
Russia had offered a solution. Iran will enrich but with the strict 2015 cap. Russia will evacuate the 60+% enriched uranium stockpile.
A JCPOA reset.
Israel opposed both because Iran is already a nuclear threshold state.
It enriched from the JCPOA limit of 4% to 60% in under a year (2019 to 2020/2021).
That was 5 years ago. If Iran wanted, it would enrich to 90%, but it held off and only intermittently added to its existing stockpile.
In fact, if IAEA reports are to be believed, IAEA already found traces of 80+% enriched uranium, so Iran potentially has a smaller stockpile of weapon-grade uranium.
So like Japan, if Iran retains its enrichment capacity, it will be able to enrich and acquire a bomb at a moment's notice if it finds itself in an existential crisis.
That's the deterrence Iran seeks.

And that's the reason for the war.
Israel wants to completely eliminate Iran's ability to enrich.
That's what a complete destruction of its nuclear program entails.
Iran has said over their dead bodies.

On some level, it does appear that Israel has made the tradeoff that they'd rather have a North Korea.
Iran with a nuke but crippling sanctions that'd destabilize the government as it did Syria.
The mullahs will struggle to have the same level of control as the Kims. We've already seen how easily Iran can be infiltrated.
There are no protests in NK, protests occur regularly in Iran.
So there is a chance the regime could be toppled or become a Pakistan where compliant generals manage things.

As opposed to a prosperous Japan.
Iran as a nuclear threshold state. No sanctions. Lots of trade deals.
Growing economy that'll make the mullahs the next CCP or Gulf Monarchs.
And essentially becoming the Turkey/Japan/South Korea of the Axis Bloc on account of Iran's innate technical proficiency.

That is why Iran will sacrifice as many generals, nuclear scientists, and Khamenei himself to retain its nuclear program.
And if Iran does not change its stance, a second war is all but assured.
If push comes to shove, Iran would just test a nuke as Medvedev as said, either one that is transferred or one developed by its own means in secret facilities; and cross its fingers.
But it will not leap at this decision until it exhausts all other options.
Iran is playing a very dangerous game. But so far, they're still in it. Barely.

The funny thing is that they are so afraid of displeasing each other that they can’t even agree that what’s bad is bad. I don’t know what kind of fear of losing social currency that is. Is that masculinity? Fear of going again the hive mind?
