Ballzproblem2:No wonder dem no want sack the guy. What a maga move |
Emaprince:OUK set the tone OUK is such a ballsy thief, he pulled off a big heist when IBB was President. He forwarded some documents faking IBB authorisation to a bank to release some hefty sums to him. He chopped the money and ran from IBB As crooks do, they later laughed over the matter and OUK became IBBs boy when IBB returned from exile in Egypt. OUK was such a thief, he was stealing from small Abia what Niger Delta Governors were chopping from their states |
https://www.nairaland.com/7623301/wike-demolish-ait-raypower-building We talked about companies making long term investments in Lagos rather than states with volatile actors in the South yesterday. Above is another example Companies take cognisance of these when making investment decisions |
raumdeuter:This is heartening stuff For too long, American companies have focussed on outsourcing business to Asia as a result of wanting to establish alliances in the Pacific region after the 2nd World War and Korean war, ignoring uplifting their backyard in South and Central America, and Europe has been doing the same with India. Andela and co are changing the perception with Africa and there is no reason why we shouldn't get some of the IT support trade if we get our act right. Our only competition in this field should be India, Pakistan, Phillipines, Ghana, Gambia and East Africa given our language advantage |
A001:So Quilombola is "no man's land" ![]() |
GloriousGbola:There is enough material in that book for a series, despite being a short novel, it's just to fill in dialogue |
larride:Electricity still needs to be created from something so whether states can afford to burn fuel to create it is another matter In.our area, we have many oil wells that just flare off the gas while collecting the crude oil. I don't know what the Engineers would say about the feasibility of stopping these wells and restarting them, as they were not designed with the intention of extracting gas. However there is potential to create production zones around these wells where the gas is turned to electricity on the spot to feed an industrial zone created nearby. Then attract all those Aba boys to.come and start producing in these zones with the free electricity. Even mining power for Bitcoin miners sef on the assumption they produce more electricity than an Industrial zone can consume. In other words, we don't necessarily have to fix electricity throughout the country, but can build industrial zones around the oil wells that currently flare gas. There are few near my village that are just burning non stop. One burns directly from the ground, just like hellfire. |
Ballzproblem2:Another Tuchel classic. |
DeadPresidents:We need a Passport of Mallam Ilia movie Alexandre Dumas no do pass Cyrpian with Count of Monte Cristo, and we have a movie for that. |
raumdeuter:Our options are limited given lack of security and electricity but there are one or two. Our competitive advantage is large workforce, proximity to Europe and English speaking population. First thing would be to focus on tropical cash crops where harvesting is not properly mechanised, thereby giving us the advantage of cheap labour ie crops you pick rather than harvest with machines. These would be things like Cashews and Palm Oil which require a lot of human labour and fit our soils. Our elders were not wrong in turning us into the world's foremost Palm Oil producer Other advantages are tropical conditions and the possibility of flooding our fields in Niger Delta for water intensive crops like rice or almonds. There are lands in our area where water comes and goes and proper irrigation could turn these into paddies or fish farms. Most of our Mussels in Europe come from Chile, something that grows naturally in Niger Delta and we have perfect conditions for Mussel farms, and again is labour intensive Apart from that, all those banana etc should not be going from far away South America to Europe and Middle East when we can beat them on distance economy. Again, this is labour intensive work, and we have cheaper labour than the South Americans plus better fuel economy to get it to European markets Then longer term when we get our electricity right, you have IT and telephone helpline support economy as an English speaking nation, something India have mastered, selling only their ability to speak English and the soft skills of some portion of their population |
GloriousGbola:Like most of these things, it's a black hole. If you model Nigerians competitive advantage on Porters diamond, tourism is one of the last industries you would pick to grow the Nations wealth |
OasisX:For the writer to be so ill informed to casually lie like that throws the rest of his piece in doubt I won't believe subsequent Governors abandoned Obudu ranch to hate on Donald Duke until I see the financial accounts of the ranch. More likely they stopped funding what was a cash drain on their Government. |
OasisX:The bold is a complete lie. The pathway to major tourism footfall is being listed on the websites of the major tour operators (Sandals, Thomson, TUI, Thomas Cook). Not even Ghanas gold coast is found there, talkless of Calabar. The only black African destinations found there are Cape Verde, Gambia, Zanzibar, Kenya and Southie, attracting millions of visitors per year The pathway to becoming an international tourist destination takes many years to develop and encompasses many supporting industries, but most importantly involves the big tour operators taking a stake in the industry. Just as an example, you must have an industry that can provide tens of thousands of sausages and fresh milk every morning as that is what International tourists demand for breakfast. I don't think Obudu ranch ever reached profitability, like most Nigerian tourist resorts which rely on Nigerian spending power, and subsequent Governors will have made decisions based on cash burn and financial feasibility. |
DonJ feud with Dayo is starting to reach levels of Mallam Ilia feud with Usuman in the Cyprian Ekwensi classic: "The passport of Mallam Ilia" |
Ballzproblem2:They should stay away from Sanchez, that guy is useless Raya is also too short |
There's a reason I say Lagos is the best run State Govt in Nigeria by miles. I don't make that statement lightly, and I'm not talking of one Governor but a succession of Governors working toward a long term grand plan that is very business friendly in comparison to other states |
BlueRayDick:Hopefully after a week, all this tribal chest beating will calm down |
DontBullshitMe:Most secure state with the infrastructure and logistics to carry the industry, yes And just as importantly, a state with the most guaranteed future security, that you can plan capital investments of 20 years around without worrying about write downs. Not like some states where security depends on election cycle and things can flare up every 4 or 8 years depending on the Governorship candidates. On a Fixed Asset register, you have items with 4 year life, 7 years, 10 years, 20, years, 40 years and 50 years. Anytime you abandon the asset, you have to forego normal depreciation and write off the whole carrying value as a loss. Land and Buildings is 10 years to 50 years. Nobody is going to put down assets of 50 years where write-off losses depends on whether Wike, Amaechi, Ateke or their future equivalents can keep their calm over the next 50 years. Just like Adidas wrote off their investment in Kanye West declaring a loss for the first time in decades; or just like companies wrote off their investment in Russia, nobody is going to willingly expose themselves to write-off risk that depends on volatile actors. |
Melvyn11:They will be paying great hazard pay to attract workers then Nothing consine your average expatriate worker with your beef with local community, if you can't guarantee his security, he will find employment elsewhere If you notice, most of the multinationals are selling their onshore operations to local operators. You might as well take helicopter from Lagos to offshore rig than from PH, if PH is not conducive security wise. |
Amigoss:Yes |
Melvyn11:Companies go where there is security. All this talk is lamba Insecurity drove them out, and only security can bring them back |
47c3ee:Hahaha When put in those terms The price shock me sha That was a front page advert as well. This site should be better monetized na |
benalvino3:A ceasefire to whose advantage? Small boy, go and sleep. Politics of war is not for you Ceasefire or peacetalk while you are occupying someone's land is in the favour of the occupier |
OasisX:This will come down to Dayos advice to APC contestants - just make it controversial and let the courts do the rest |
izzou:Hahaha. It's the thought that counts |
Ibukzy:Are Sean and DonJ the standard bearers for measured dialogue? |
Agadinaagwuofe:Rochas dug such a financial black hole that any incoming Governor will just give up |
izzou:Okpansukkaisbae should help us clarify |
Spy360:Rochas didn't do well anything He built some substandard roads and tanked the finances within 2 years, leading to State Govt wage delinquency when it comes to payment of civil servants Rochas is second only to Aregbe when it comes to financial mismanagement |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:He did well to retract the banner but that 32k small sha. ![]() |
liveLongNprospa:Who is winning the Governorship, that's important Cos with a majority of just 1 in the house, at least one of those niggas will accept N50m from the Governor to cross carpet |
OasisX:Afrodoc2 warned them not to bring religion and politics to his section, dem no want hear word |
