2018 was shit because Fed was increasing interest rates and did an about-face halfway through when markets groaned.

The pandemic QE was the biggest fiscal expansion in history. It trumped anything that happened from 2009 to 2019. Money supply increased by 44% over the pandemic alone. How would such a thing not have an impact especially when economic activity has been on pause and the world tries to fit 2 years of economic activity into one, with 50% more money and supply chain problems due to Covid restricting supply. There goes your inflation root.

Interestingly, this is intentional. The establishment wanted to cut ties with Russia and bleed their economy for having the gall to do away with Yeltsin. Trump halted that plan in 2016. Curiously, I think the world needs a strong America. As it does a strong Russia and China. Same way the world needs a strong Iran to counter the excesses of the House of Saud and the Zionists. For the last time, Russia has absolutely nothing to do with American GDP decline and I won't dignify this Russian write-up with engaging it too deeply. A whole 12 years of financial quantitative easing and an unprecented fiscal response to a pandemic has happened which require unwinding, not because oil is $100 which America carried easily for half a decade in the Arab spring, nor natural gas at $8 when America has been carrying natural gas at $20 for most of the 2000s. Knowledge of numbers and price points is key, narrative is just lazy. These are political talking points that appeal to Joe the Plumber level.

I don't play politics with economics but you do. As no President is responsible for the start or end of a business cycle. They are just lucky to be there at the start or middle of a cycle, or at the end of one. Same reason I always absolved George Bush of 2 recessions during his tenure. The world has been on a bullrun since 2009 fuelled by Fed printing money, and a major Covid fiscal response that accelerated the cycle to it's end. The cycle is simply over. If Trump is lucky, he would have skipped the hard part and return in 2024 when the cycle has started to turn upward, just like Clinton skipped the hard part of the Savings and Loans crisis and entered on the upturn, then handed over to Bush II just before the Tech bubble downturn.

Politics or not, 2 quarterly declines back to back has always been viewed as a recession. It is not a deep recession but the raw numbers for Q2 should give cause for concern for the future

You posted the below on June 29. Where did you get Q2 data on June 29? What you posted was revised Q1 data of -1.6%, revised from -1.5% and I corrected you. They do revise quarterly data monthly, even the result they posted today will be revised in August.

I believe market is thinking a recession will encourage Fed to stop raising rates and prioritise growth over curbing inflation. Few weeks ago, they were pumping Nasdaq on fears of a recession because they just want low interest rates that come with recession. It's not uhuru though. If job numbers start following the GDP which it would at some point over the next few months, then we would see major effect on market. I'm still in some short positions.

The 75 was expected given that was their previous guidance and they didn't give any indication to the contrary. If they were going to do 100, they would have indicated earlier as they don't like to shock markets. My long term outlook is still bearish till end of 2023,, but I think we will have a mini rally for the bulls in August as there are no calendar events to cause uncertainty. GDP print is tomorrow and inflation print is Aug 11, and Fed is going on holiday till September so I think the market will party small after inflation print on Aug11 until Fed return from holiday, unless inflation print is so disastrous as to make Fed call off their holiday. Anything under 10% and Fed will continue their holiday.
