Athletic did not lie

They only reported the headline stats. It is true that Haaland base salary is £375k. It is also true that there are easily achievable incentives that push that close to £900k. They reported transfer plus agent fees of £85m which is the same as everyone has reported on transfer fee to Dortmund plus Raiola cut. They did not speak on the father's cut nor Haaland sign-on fee. There is no contradiction.

Below is the same Athletic corroborating the true cost of the deal at the time of negotiation with Peps direct words in quotes.

We would not trust those with an agenda like City, nor journalists who receive information that City want to give out.

We would believe the clubs who negotiated with him, and even Peps words at the start of negotiation, not the numbers that City window dressed to calm DeBruyne and other players down. City have agency in the matter to downplay the figures.

£30m a year after tax is £1m a week Gross in the UK. Thats from the trusted Athletic. Also corroborating the release clause in 2024 which City went out of their way to deny. It is clear that City have cause to lie in this matter, so we will take independent sources not City or their journalists they feed information to. Every figure quoted rhymes with exactly what Raiola asked Chelsea for ($1m a week) and what other managers who negotiated with Haaland team are saying and what Pep himself said. You must be mad in this day and age to think you will sign Haaland and not pay something at least reasonably close to what you expect to pay for Mbappe. Any other talk is pure agenda.

Athletic only reported his base salary. Nothing contradicts anything I've said here as they did not disclose his full salary and agents fees. And if you believe Athletic, then you should corroborate my statement that he has £150m ($200m as reported by Athletic) release clause, for which Man City will soon pay tens to hundreds of millions to his father to get rid of. If you know anything about football contracts, you will know agents typically get 10% of the transfer fees so you can apply that to Havertz, Lukaku and whoever

Everybody except the dumbest rock knows Haaland is majorly owned by his father and agent, and they are the ones you really pay when you sign Haaland, just like many contracts for Brazilian players where the agents own the equity. Only a fool will be talking about the release clause paid to Dortmund. The person to buy out is the father and the agent. They parked Haaland at Dortmund with low release clause for that very reason, same way Brazilians often get parked in Portuguese league until the agent can cash out. Let me even shock you, Man City have not paid off the father and Agents equity in the player which is why they agreed to £150m release clause in 2 years, so the father and agent can chop again from their equity. Man City is on a similar deal to Dortmund, that's why they are already trying to sign new contract with Haaland just two months into the season, so they can finally buyout the agent and father's interest. . . despite already paying Haaland £900k per week.

Haaland on the open market is a £300-£400m player and the father and agent will expect to cake out £150m to £200m from him before handing over all his contractual rights, since they loosely own 50% of hlm.

The problem is that the English media will never leave these boys alone with hype and then allow it to get to their heads, making them lose focus. The only English player not allowing that is Kane and players under Pep ( cos pep is disciplined.

We have players as talented as chalobah in the team, like RLC, Carney, James Gallagher etc. what we want is consistency and not dropping off when it matters. Otherwise, we will keep calling them “talented” until they reach 30. ( chamberlain, Walcott, odoi, chalobah’s brother etc.)


Talents like Chalobah are not that scarce in the academy. The problem is dropping off drastically and EPL is not a place you can afford to be inconsistent with your performance.

Football is a confidence game. Anyone whose played knows you will sometimes play in teams where you feel on top of the world, while in other teams you would struggle to assert yourself. Chalobah is a work in progress. If and when his confidence clicks, you would see his full technique. I don't think he'll be good enough to be a midfielder for Chelsea but if he can play midfield for Lorient, he certainly has the technical tools to play CB

He always had it. Tuchel just killed his confidence after a mistake at Liverpool in January, dragging him before numerous video panels to hammer on his mistake in that game and dropping him cos of that one mistake until injury forced him back in in the cup finals.

There are very few centrebacks that can hold their own as a central midfielder in Ligue1 like Chalobah did. That should tell anyone he has the technical tools, we can see he already has the physicality and speed, the only question is whether he has the confidence (or will be given the confidence) to demand the ball and feel like part of the team. I don't think you will see any centreback capable of doing the below in midfield. Chalobah is nowhere near his full confidence yet like Rudiger was in his final season when he would just get the ball and run past players on that left. If you see the way Chalobah would receive the ball in midfield under pressure, turn and run past players at Lorient, you will know he is still feeling like a small boy in Chelsea from the way he plays. What we need to do is give such a youngster confidence, not hammer him for one or two mistakes when our established pros are even making mistakes more regularly.
