You and him better pray Aguero scores hattrick and Robertson drops 2 assists cos that's his only way out the trap I've set for him. |

afrodoc2: Interceptions, blocked shots, clearances all depend on positioning and reading the game, are low risk actions, and also generally form the bulk of your defensive actions.
Tackling on the other hand is a high risk activity that is more likely than the others to lead to fouls and cards. While it is a worthwhile skill to have it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and that usually happens when a defensive assignment has been missed earlier by someone.
Any central defender who depends on tackling more than the other skills is a calamity waiting to happen. Like Marcus Rojo cc larride |

larride: How can clearance be greater than tackles and interceptions for a CB? Really? Clearance should be far greater than tackles. Think how many times a cross or long ball comes into the box per game |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Ibime(m): 12:05pm On May 02, 2019 |
larride:

Let’s see this;
Tackles: VVD - 35, TAA - 57 Tackles won: VVD - 25, TAA - 37 Interception: VVD - 40, TAA - 33 Clearance: VVD - 193, TAA - 54 Minute played: VVD - 3205, TAA - 2286
Tackles: VVD - 35, Robertson - 78 Tackles won: VVD - 25, Robertson - 48 Interception: VVD - 40, Robertson - 29 Clearance: VVD - 193, Robertson - 44 Minute played: VVD - 3205, Robertson - 3045
Tackles: VVD - 35, Matip - 36 Tackles won: VVD - 25, Matip - 24 Interception: VVD - 40, Matip - 28 Clearance: VVD - 193, Matip - 71 Minute played: VVD - 3205, Matip - 1445
Now looking at the above stat, you can see that VVD, TAA, Robertson and Matip have comparable tackles and interception but VVD has almost triple their clearance. Now make your deduction.
With this few points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince you and not confuse you that TAA, Robertson, Matip and even Allison have contributed heavily to the improvement of Liverpool defense. Don't confuse yourself with stats. Full backs and CBs have different jobs on the pitch, hence the disparity in tackles and clearances. For example the byline where fullbacks operate is a safe place to make tackles but the penalty box where CBs operate is not. If you are good on your clearances, you should not need to make as many tackles. That means you are in position to clear the ball before danger develops requiring you to tackle. In the same way, I do not expect fullbacks to make as many clearances as CBs because the box is where you make clearances which is CB zone. Interceptions are neither here nor there. They are correlated to stopping counterattacks. What you should do is show us VVD clearances against other CBs in EPL to get a better view. |

simonjassy: Actually i don't think mane's chance was a sitter. and barca didn't really have harder chances when most of them came from counters usually leaving 2-3 liverpool players to face messi (we all know how technically gifted he is) ,suarez and either 1 of alba,semedo and dembele. Suarez and Messi 2nd goal is harder than anything Liverpool missed today. The 2nd goal is just good fortune to bounce back on Messi chest to show it was Barcas day and not Liverpool day. When it's not your day, it's not your day! |

Even ancelloti who couldn't get psg to the ucl semi finals won ucl with c.ronaldo. Did you see.anyone sucking Zidanes mojo everyday here, even through Zidanes feat of three-in-a-row is unprecedented, Ronaldo or no Ronaldo. simonjassy: Is it only me that saw barca,parking the bus, slightly less as evident as mourinho's. To be fair, Liverpool were their equals on the pitch but football is about taking your chances. Na who score pass dey win match, that's why I place great value in goalscorers. Na me bring the word "productive" and "unproductive" to Nairaland, they used to mock me with it then. Whilst Suarez and Messi were productive with the harder chances they were given today, Mane and Salah were missing sitters, end of story. |

Thecassanova: Kovacic is still the same gragra with no end product. Off 1min, on the 2nd. It’s useless playing both Jorginho & Kovacic at the same time.
RLC too not consistent. It’s a shame I’m even preferring Barkley to the two. Kovacic should be played as one of 2 DMs with no attacking input expected from him. I see him as a lesser version of Dembele who does not create anything but is difficult to dispossess |
