Ticha: Depending our buoyant your pocket is, you can hire an au pair (lives with you) or a nanny (does not live with you). Some families also do a nanny share to keep costs down. If you want to go the au pair route - have a look at au pair world - you can look through as an au pair looking for a family to give you an idea what's available/ pay.
PS - We had au pairs for about 6 years. Brexit has decimated their numbers a bit. If you're on FB, there's a UK nannies, au pairs and host families FB group that is quite large and is a good starting point. I can also share my au pair manual with you if you want. Au pair world has 1, 3, 6 and 12 months membership options. It's also worth noting that au pairs can also be very very unreliable and finding the right one takes time. There was a year we had 4! Hi! Did you pay for sign up? I'm trying to sign up but I'm required to pay 45 dollars for 30 days validity. |

Hi all. Does anyone know about the aupair website? I just filled the application form and I'm required to pay 45 dollars for registration before I can be matched with someone. Thanks. |

Lexusgs430: No managing!!!!!! Don't even contemplate leaving them at home by themselves...........
It's either you leave them in Nigeria (assuming that's your port of exit) or have a social network that you could exchange care services or come with a ready - made childminder from Nigeria.............
Childcare would completely strip you of that 35 hours weekly rota earnings (not considering other logistical associated costs)....... how do u bring child minder from Nigeria? |

LagosismyHome: England and Scotland do it differently so are you where are you
In England people who have settled status ie ILR, British are eligible for 30hours provided they meet the other criteria ..... the rest such as visa holders are entitled to half which is 15 hours
Scotland I am told, all kids regardless of what visa their parents have are entitled to 30hours but don't quote me on that ...lol. I live in England and that the rule I am more sure about. The Scotland one I read it here
Regarding how that 15hours is calculated it not a set 8.45 to 11.40. Each nursery set time differently so check directly with the school Okay. Thanks |

LagosismyHome: Either leave them in school till 6 and pay for aftershock (3.15 to 6), use a childminder, use a nanny or any other means. The 3 years old can get 30hours but won't start primary until after 4 (for England)
20hours will be too small to survive, depending on how much you are bringing in from naija... but you can work around both schedule. It might mean some nights while the other parent is at home with the child as an example ... Are 3 years entitled to 30 hours or 15 hours? 8.45- 11.40 |

LagosismyHome: For sure, the NHS is recruiting nurses left and right from outside UK (including naija), how much more those who trained here. There should have no problem finding sponsorship
The catch is that permanent staff nurses don't earn much for the effort involved but potential to earn more if you are an agency staff later on What about Social work? |
