komekn: I disagree with that approach it doesn't pursue merit as the overriding measurement for inclusion, it is way too NARROW. And unfortunately open too abuse, the story of Salisu is still fresh in many minds. In a country with high standards of probity and integrity this may be a good approach, however in Nigeria it will be fraught with problems.
It's what you do in your club and league week in and week out in terms of consistent continous top class outstanding performances that determines your quality not what you do in a training session or game for the U23.
Most top level teams will have players at U23 level who would have had at least 5/6 years of first team football. You will not see any academy players or B players in the U21 or U23.
Using that yardstick how many of our players in the U23 selection have had up to 3 years of first team continous consistent football ❓
Finally, with regards to Nigerian origin players who have already played for thier countries of abode or birth at U21 level will therefore be ineligible to play. That effectively excludes a huge ever growing quality pool of true youthful football talent.
You can say it cannot work but that is what Rohr and his crew have adopted.
We need to first harness the talents available to us before we start chasing after the foreign born Players most of whom are not even interested in playing for Nigeria.
We have seen Players progress from the previous Olympics teams to SE so who says we cannot harvest players from the Dream team to the SE?
Rohr and his crew may continue to chase those illusive foreign borns but they have done well in gathering those that are directly elligible to play for us and we give them kudos for that.
ChrisKels: Aigbogun should bury his face in shame, so this kid was there when he picked those Grandpas for our U20s? I wonder why Aigbogun was appointed the gaffer, that guy is a misfit for that job.
Thanks a bunch, Fidelis and Imama.
That boy is already 20. He may not be elligible if he turns 21 any time this year.
BTW I thought some people said there are no truely young Youth players in the NPFL.
ChrisKels: Not until I see him play. Forget the Ivorian-bred tag, if he was good enough, he wouldn't be a bench warmer at lowly Tambov, in the Russia second division, of all leagues, if he was good enough, Ivory Coast wouldn't let him slip, remember the case of Jimoh Sherif Olatunde, who faced us at the U17 AFCON final, in 2013, the one they called the new Yaya Toure.
So u want to see the answer before u answer question
Na food wey don done u dey look for. U better accept him now not that when him don begin to shine u will come here and start shouting "my boi my boi"
Taliban: OK o but Tbaba himself Don talk and I quote this team looks younger than the U20. Though they say love is blind but his own love for our age grade players no blind to age cheats o. My people say the eyes know wetin go full stomach.
According to someone here "poverty makes someone look older than his age"
This U23 get more of "Cream boys" while na "aje pako" full that U20 team.
The rave of the moment, attracting interest from Juventus. He plays RW and CF. He has played 10 times as a RW, 13 as a CF and once as a LW. 8 goals and 10 assists show how vital, he is for Spezia Calcio.
Not much is known of his club background in Nigeria but he was picked by Spezia after a great performance in the Viareggio Cup for USD Lavagnese 1919.
The Viareggio Cup is a competition for youth teams in Italy. He scored 5 goals in 6 games.
Born and bred in Ivory Coast, speaks fluent french. Powerful left footed runner. Plays LW, RW or CF. He has two goals and 1 assist in 16 games (mainly starts on the bench) in the Russian 2nd division for FC Tambov.. FC Tambov is the number 1 team in the Russian 2nd division, 6 points clear after 27 games and likely to get promoted.
You can't miss him in a crowd as he keeps colorful dreads..
Chukwuemeka007: A very funny scenario. Started in flying colours and ending in gloomy colours with an uphill task.
Having defeated us (the biggest threat in the group) away from home, one would've thought they've already qualified. I guess they let down their guards. They were basking in The euphoria of beating us. Soccer Africa's T.K. no let Peterside hear word. Now Peterside is laughing last and even better. The goaless draw against Seychelles was their greatest undoing.
Like some here always say, S.A. always get choked.
That is why I love this seemless synergy between the U23 and SE coaches. Rohr wants to use that game to assess who and who are really ready for the next level.
This is a good development and should be sustained. We should have a standing U23 team. Even if there are no Olympics qualfiers we can organize quality friendlies for them.
Any young player promoted to the Super Eagles should have been tested and assessed by the U23 handlers.
andrew444: It will give me joy if those South Africans fail to qualify for the afcon
Up Libya
SA really messed up. They started the Qualifiers with 3pts and +2 goals difference against Nigeria. But fast forward to match day 5 Nigeria qualfied with a game to spare and they (SA) will have to scale through a desert Storm to qualify.
They are so fond of breaking the hearts of their fans.
Oasis007: Update: The U23 team have arrived in Tunis. Foreign pros that have joined includes: Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze, Azubuike Okechukwu, Dennis Bonaventure and Taiwo Awoniyi. Oasis007: Super Eagles Camp Update Our camp has opened in Asaba, Delta State for Friday’s 2019AFCONQ vs Seychelles and the international friendly vs Egypt
Already in; Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, Ikouwem Udo, Valentine Ozonwafor, Ike Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi. #SoarSuperEagles.
I just hope that Super sports can do justice to the pictures quality of this game. I didn't enjoy our last game there at all due to the poor camera positioning.
BascoVanVeli: Good for you but that doesn't change the fact that you should be called police FC kick and rush na wetin una sabi. You can't teach an old elephant new tricks
Dey siddan there they claim past glories, those same lobi and Enugu go soon pass Una for table. See how MFM dey pass Una even though their coach dey Tunisia with a game in hand. Pedigree no dey play ball sir
Tell me which NPFL club wey no dey play kick and follow? But Enyimba plays their own with more purpose. Nothing like past Glory. Enyimba is still the most consistent club in the Land. We still have our pedigree unlike the other pedigreeless NPFL clubs that can win the league this season and battle relegation next season.
And as for MFM let them just be toping the "B" Table na the place wey them go see Dem be that. But once they face one Togolese club them go fall "yakata".
BascoVanVeli: Enyimba lost in their home stadium to the only North African side they faced last term so what exactly are you talking about?
I am talking about the inferiority complex of Nigerian Clubs when they face North African sides, Enyimba inclusive. Recall I had already ruled out Lobi and Rangers chances against those North African sides immediately I saw the draws.
My point on Enyimba is they compete better than the other NPFL clubs on the continent irrespective of which team they present. I have worked with the Enyimba crew before and I know how highly the club administrators think about the club. They have standards that must be maintained by successive coaches and players little wonder why Enyimba have almost always finished in top 4 in the league and with the highest League and FA cup title in Nigeria. And they are also highly rated by CAF.
