Joebie: Sir I’m clear on that. But I’m saying you want voters eventually to vote according to the players’ SE performances ONLY. Hence there is need for clarity in the naming of the categories. Definitely, that would be clearly stated. Meanwhile, ur list of nominees. |
Sports › Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Icon4s(op): 11:35am On Nov 26, 2018 |
Joebie: Is this just for sample or your actual nominations?
I think the rules is clear. Every committee member should nominate 3 players per category.
I’m afraid there might be some confusion, if not in the nomination stage here, in the voting stage later. Which is why I suggested earlier your rewording the categories e.g Super Eagles player of the year etc. (not Nigerian player of the year). Else you will have to remind monikers we are only considering GWG performances, not club performances.
But I’m okay if u want to go on with this. I will make my nominations later today These are my nominations which I have also used as a sample for others. On Nigerian Player of the year I obviously mean Super Eagle player of the year. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Each Committee member nominates 3 per category and we select the 3 highest frequency of nominations. If there is any tie we vote. |

Besides hope you won't talk trash about the Villarreal team fighting relegation bla bla bla because this Villarreal team, a team from Laliga that I know will give Arsenal and Chelsea a run for their money in the Europa League
So I want to hear your thoughts concerning Sam Chuckwueze playing in the Best league in the world and doing very well even if it's still early in the season whether his call-up to the SE is Justified or not

Earthquake2: Leicester, Burnley and Watford are the only PL team employing SS and Iheanacho clearly does not fit into any of them
So If Iheanacho is kicked out of Leicester, no straight to Championship or another league And that is also why he is not having a place in the SE. He should either develop as a CF or as an AM. Most teams no longer play SS. |

sontoly: Nacho receiving so much bashing of recent is not a surprise.
To whom much is given, much is expected. He (Nacho) has not lived upto half of his hype and expectations. His case is similar to that of Mikel Obi when he moved to Chelsea, people expected so much from such an excited attacking midfielder who was expected to create many goals and score at least upto 10 goals a season could not manage to score 5 goals throughout his stay at chelsea. Will you say he is bad player? No.
It was a nuisance to the ear hearing derogatory remarks about him and why he would have been better playing for Man Utd than Chelsea, how are we sure he would have developed to a player we wanted?. Unlike Mikel, Nacho decided to leave a club he shunned like a million stars and more suitable to his playing pattern to a club that is comfortable playing a typical kick and follow football all because of temporary bench warming, I remember people making jest of mikel warming the bench, but one thing was certain, every coaches that came to Chelsea then find Mikel totally indespensable.
The deed has been done, what is left for him is to re-invent himself to suit Leicester playing pattern or get another club that suits him better. Please you cannot compare Mikel's case with that of Iheanacho. Mikel despite being drafted to the DM role was at that initial stage a starter for a stars studded Chelsea side. Iheanacho was a bench warmer at City and even now at Leicester. Plus Mikel was delivering the goods in the Super Eagles colors. Iheanacho is not making any impact for both Club and country. Yes, he was overhyped by many but a lot have since lowered their expectations. I never for once hyped him but I also never expected his game level to be this low at this stage in his career such that even Rohr mentioned it that Iheanacho has lost his confidence. His development seems to have stalled since after leaving City. There was a picture taken of Iheanacho and a couple of some other players in camp against SA and he looked so diminished psychologically. It's either he shapens his pattern after Leicester's style of play or he seeks a transfer next summer. |

Naming players for awards categories.
Each Committee member is to list 3 nominees for each category. With the exception of the Super Falcons player of the year which will be done soon after the completion of the AWC. After all Committee members have nominated. We collate and the highest 3 nominees per category are chosen. Where there is a tie we go into voting.
Forgiveness and Tbaba1234 please revisit your nominations and make them 3 per category and do so for all categories. Thanks.

Icon4s: Setting Criteria for players Selection.
We do not have the complete Data base of the statistics of the individual players, so we don't need to make the criteria too scientific. These are going to be simple and justifiable criteria.
I will suggest below: 1. All award categories should be for players who have featured for any of the national teams (IE, Super Eagles, CHAN Eagles, Flying Eagles, Golden Eaglets, Super Falcons, Falconets and Flamingos) 2. Rating of players should be based on national team performances only. 3. Young Player of the Year is strictly for players 21years and below. 4. For The Best Attacker award I suggest points should be generated as thus: Goal-2 points, assist-1 point. 5. Selection of 3 players for the other sections of the team( ie Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder) can be subjective but also objective.
We can add more or remove any from the list above

And you say we should take the Nigerian league serious? NNL insist on 8 Teams to be promoted to NPFL. Nigeria National League Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at the Nera Hotel, Abuja on Saturday night and ended with a consensus that proposed the 8 teams which qualified for the NNL Super 8 are promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). The NNL Executive Body also agreed to cancel the 2018 Super 8 competition which was usually the way to determine teams that get promoted to the NPFL. But the arrogance of his father is the cause of his current predicament. When we needed his son the most that was prior to AFCON qualifiers against Egypt. Iorfa has lost form and rusty for now Semi Ajayi deserves a nod in SE team selection.
Besides Dominic Iorfa jnr hasn't indicated any interest to play for Nigeria unlike the smart Seyi Ojo who might most likely debut against Seychelles. Precisely. |

wayodude: Nah bro I back @komekn on this one. The broad question being posed here is regarding consistency in selection criteria. The players being discussed should be seen as mere examples in trying to explain the case. Why did a player perform at a certain level for a long period of time and was ignored and then a different player performs at a similar level for a shorter spell and he is called up? That's the question being asked Has Dominic Iorfa jnr now agreed to play for Nigeria? |

komekn: I am automatically indignant when , FAIR-PLAY, TRANSPARENCY, OBJECTIVITY and a MERIT are put aside against FAVOURITISM and SUBJECTIVE PRESUMPTION.
What makes a player quality is consistency of top quality and or continuous above average performances and that component consistency, is intrinsically linked to time, you can not have one without the other.
Ajayi is 25, from the 2012 /2013 season until 2015 he never kicked a ball in senior first team league football that is near three years. He never played one game for Arsenal, Charlton or Cardiff, his first professional league game came at AFC Wimbledon in the 2015/16 in league two. However, despite not playing any first team football he was in the U20 Nigerian team in 2013. In 2016/17 he made it to the Championship with Rotherham playing about 17 games. 2017/18 they were relegated and Ajayi played that season in League one. Bring things up to date they got promoted and he is in the Championship 2018/19, he got MOTM award against Stoke, he is improving at 25 he is like many other players a late developer. How far can he go , time will tell.
Dominic Iorfa is 23, started playing as a teenager in 2013/14 season on loan to Shrewsbury in League one. From 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17 he played near 100 games for wolves , winning best young player, MOTM. Playing for England youth teams and invited to train with the first team of England. He was an established player in Wolves numerous offers from EPL sides rejected in now we know misplaced loyalty.
Before the summer of 2017 he made clear commitment to the SE he even had a positive meeting with Rohr to this effect, he was at his peak, everything was going well. He was waiting for the official call up that never materialised to date.
2017 Super Agent Mendes had taken control by proxy resulting in a FA probe that couldnt meet the burden of legal proof to make a substansive case against Wolves and Mendes, but its an open secret - https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11699/11561273/wolves-boss-nuno-espirito-santo-brushes-off-football-leaks-claims-about-jorge-mendes-relationship
He brought in a new manager Nuno Santos, and he systematically began to dispose of players not within the business model. Wolves currently has more Portuguese players than Benfica and Porto. That should tell you something. Dominic arrived 2017//18 before he had kicked a ball he was frozen out no explanation. Very hurriedly had to find another club hence Ipswich Town, early 2018 he got injured so for the 2017/18 season he played about 24 games.
2018/19, things have gone so bad in a totally unprecedented move never seen before unflavoured first team players were not allowed to train with the first or the U23. However, Dominic has now been allowed back in but only with the U23.
Strikers can have dry patches and are deemed to loose form. However, defenders are not prone to loosing form so dramatically. You cant have played football as defender played consistently at a top performing and with continuous improvement then all of a sudden you are bad or not good enough. This is not a football decision but one based on the politics of football business.
Sakho was left out of the Liverpool Squad after disputes with Klopp and didn't play for quite a few months before he went to Palace and immediately changed their season. His pedigree didn't change or quality drop just the opportunity to play at Liverpool. I see similarities with Iorfa that is not a double standard.
Now the question is double standard and hypocrisy.
Ajayi has played 35 games in the championship over two seasons not consecutive and is two years older largely been anonymous compared to Dominic who has played 110 games in the Championship over four consecutive seasons that is long term top level consistency. Consistency that has seen him playing for England at all youth levels.
So who is better , on paper and statistically there is no debate But that's not the most pertinent question in reality, but rather why is one been DENIED OPPORTUNITY and who is more DESERVING of OPPORTUNITY We will not know how good he is until he is given OPPORTUNITY, competition creates quality it doesn't diminish it. I remember Danny Shittu blatantly denied opportunity at Bolton for two seasons , leaves and was voted best Defender in the Championship he was also exceptional for Nigeria.
Now you should look in the mirror, the finger you pointed has many more fingers pointing back at you, one of them is called bigotry.
Dont presume to know what any man is thinking it is birthed out of conceit. This talk about Iorfa started well before anybody knew the name Ajayi. It started in comparison to the German trio of defenders not interested in playing for Nigeria but Rohr still keeps requesting for. At the same time as ignoring Dominic. Oga what are you implying sef? That we should ignore Semi Ajayi and continue to beg Dominic Iorfa and his father? What problem do you even have with Semi Ajayi representing Nigeria at U20 level. Tomorrow if someone acuses you of your dislike for Nigerian groomed players you will start citing emotive bias and Negative prejudice. This your "English born" thing has really taken another level. Please we can only invite players that are available to us. |

fabyom: I do think the Cameroons should have won it last edition they hosted. At this tournament they look too ordinary nothing spectacular except using raw power that they are known for. The South Africans for me look the most organize and will actually give us a run for our money. However, they benefitted from our Coach Mistake in the first match. He played 4-4-2 in the first game he started Ajibade on the wings instead of Okobi in midfield. Since that has been corrected, we look more compact and very organize. I do not see any team that can defeat us in this tournament! Maybe next one in Congo cos our players are ageing. See, I watched that Nigeria vs SA game from start to finish. We dominated play from start to finish. We just didn't have that cutting edge at the final quarter of the field. The SA goal came against the run of play. They were lucky in that game. We would be favorites to win if we meet again in the final. |
