Joebie: Mikel Not Certain To Make My Squad For AFCON 2019 – Rohr Reveals, Plans To Try 50 Players Before Cup Of Nations November 28, 2018
Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria John Obi Mikel could miss the Africa Cup of Nations unless he meets some certain conditions, coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr has revealed. Football Predictions. Online And Free Mikel is yet to play for the Super Eagles since their exit at the group stages of the World Cup in Russia but yesterday he confirmed he is still willing to continue his role as captain of Nigeria, clearly shutting down any talks of retirement from international football.
Rohr however thinks otherwise insisting that he has to be at his best physical shape to make his team to the Cup of Nations because that is his first criteria for calling players to the national team and the captain is no exception to the rule.
“I respect Mikel, he has done a lot for the national team. He is always in the team’s plan but he has to be playing regularly like other players that would eventually be invited and must be fit,” Rohr said in Lagos.
DONT MISS ==> Super Eagles Trainee Ebere Eze On Target For QPR In Six-Goal Thriller Speaking further on how he intends to prepare his team for the AFCON in Cameroon next year, the coach said he plan to run the rule on over 50 players starting from the dead rubber AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against Seychelles in Uyo.
“I am happy with the performances of the new Eagles. They are fighting and giving us more open options. We are looking at about 50 players to assemble ahead of AFCON. The last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, will also be another test ahead of the tournament.
“However, there will be more test across Europe and China, myself, Alloy Agu, Yusuf Salisu will combine all the leagues there as well to get the best legs in our preparatory plan without also exempting Nigerian Professional Football League players.”
— OGN To be honest, my mind has already moved on without Mikel. |

Will come back later in the evening to complete my nominations. He would have been 22 by the time we would be announcing the awards. We cannot say ".....award for young player of the year (21 yrs and below) and be naming a 22 years old player. |

Has that nolified his performance for Chan as a home based player? The award is for players who are currently home based. |

Icon4s Why you come dey shine teeth? Sebi you wanted competition so that we will be dethroned? Are you not happy that we won despite the competition? We have to win this again and even the next one. |

forgiveness: I agreed to that but I don't agree with Eze. That is the point. Can you give a now Europe based player a "Home based player award". |
Sports › Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Icon4s(op): 10:18pm On Nov 27, 2018 |
forgiveness: Was it specified in the same rule that a player is not qualified because of where he plays?
Club must not decide a player's fate. That was the rule. If it is the Eze's case the award is for home based players. You cannot give a player who now plays in Europe a "Home based player award". That is the point here. Talking about Club not deciding a player's fate we are taking about not nominating players based on club performances. It seems you need to go back and read those rules again. |
Sports › Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Icon4s(op): 10:14pm On Nov 27, 2018 |
forgiveness: We don't need to change rules in the middle of nominate.
The rules says 'to be qualified, you must play for any other these.......Chan SE, etcetera. Why put another exception after that has been agreed? Which "another exception"? Oga, you are the one trying to bring another exception here. The rule says "a player must play for any of the national teams". So why are you bringing in an issue of "only 45mins here"? |
Sports › Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Icon4s(op): 9:51pm On Nov 27, 2018 |
forgiveness: Eze qualifies to be nominated because he played for Chan this year. Good luck to your Lokosa pick anyway. Yes Eze played in the CHAN but he is no longer a home based player. Joebie actually pointed this out and I had to agree with him. The award is for players who are still home based. |
Sports › Re: NNFF Awards, Committee. by Icon4s(op): 9:49pm On Nov 27, 2018 |
forgiveness: What did they do within 45min they played that they deserved to be nominated? The rule is "....if a player features in the GWG". The number of minutes played is not specified. As there is no robust statistical data-base to scientifically rate these players we are going to be relying on your subjective but also objective judgements which some monikers believe you posses and so they nominated you as part of the committee. Nothing wrong with nominating Lokosa and Chukwueze. We are still awaiting your full list. |

forgiveness: With just 1 game? I see. Samuel Chukwueze played only one game and is already getting nominations. One game is enough to qualify a player. Junior Lokosa is qualified for a nomination. |

Brentford full-back Moses Odubajo to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria
It means the 25-year-old could be starring in the African Nations Cup in March next year By Mike McGrath Updated: 26th November 2018, 10:10 am
BRENTFORD full-back Moses Odubajo has been approached for a Nigeria call-up. The 25-year-old, who played for England’s youth teams under Aidy Boothroyd, is set to switch countries to play in the African Nations Cup.
Moses Odubajo has battled back from serious injury to start for Brentford in the Championship.
Odubajo has battled back from two years of injury hell with a dislocated knee to rejoin Brentford this season and get regular games in the Championship.
And he will get rewarded with an international call-up after getting on the radar of Nigeria boss Gerard Rohr.
Odubajo will be included in the squad for next year’s qualifier against Seychelles, with the finals now held at the end of the season in Cameroon.
Earlier this season Odubajo admitted he considered QUITTING during his two years of injury hell. Moses Odubajo played for England U20s in 2015 – but has yet to make a senior appearance for the Three Lions
The 25-year-old made five appearances under Aidy Boothroyd's England stewardship - but he is poised to switch and play for Nigeria
The 25-year-old made five appearances under Aidy Boothroyd’s England stewardship – but he is poised to switch and play for Nigeria
Odubajo left Griffin Park three years ago for Hull but his last game for them was the Championship play-off final when he celebrated getting to the Premier League.
But he has made a solid start to Brentford’s Championship campaign.
He has made seven appearances, but is yet to score for the Bees so far.

I rated Eze based on his CHAN outing. But what if Lokosa, Ezenwa and any other player that was earlier home based have also moved to Europe now? Guess the committee will also iron this out. Modified: I have replaced Eze with Ukouwem. |
