somehow: I actually thought it is your net goals that is counted. ( Total goals scored minus total goals conceded) Please just simply call the bolded Goals Difference. That is the officially recognised name for it. To your question: Spain and Portugal both finished on same Points and same Goals Difference of +1. The next thing to be considered is Goals For. Spain scored a total of 6goals while Portugal scored a total of 5goals. So Spain tops. |

Certitude: There was a time when the head to head rule took priority over Goal difference. Goals For has always been ahead of H2H. The H2H was momentarily used ahead of Goals For by FIFA for the 2006 WC Qualifiers. However, CAF has refused to drop it . Since after it cost us that 2006 WC ticket I have hated that rule. |

somehow: But that one na rubbish na. i scored 10 and conceded 10, someone that scored 3 and conceded 3 will now lose out? if you're so good, why did you concede 10 na? The person that scored 10 and concedes 10 has the advantage over the one that scored 3 and concedes 3. That is the 'Goals For' factor I was telling you about. |

somehow: You mean based on more goals scored by Spain irrespective of how many goals they conceded? Goals For. That is what they used to take Spain to the top. Spain and Portigal are tied on both points and Goals difference but Spain has scored more Goals ie Goals For ahead of Portugal. Head to Head consideration comes after Goals For. |

Joebie: If Nigeria draws Argentina 1-1, and Iceland beats Croatia 2-0, both Nigeria and Iceland would be tied in gd ( 0 ) and goals aggregate (3). Nigeria qualifies by Head to Head. There is nothing like goals aggregate in this type of permutation. Goals aggregates are used when teams play on home and away knock-out basis. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:09pm On Jun 25, 2018 |
somehow: If Iceland win by 2 goals, they will have +0 and 4 points. if we draw by another goal margin, we will also have +0.
Then comes H2H which means we will be ahead because we beat them.
Do you understand now? Goals Difference first as you rightly put it, then Goals For/Goals scored before H2H. |

TSOM: I understand your positions and I'd criticize me too for feeling that way if I wasn't one already.
I suppose for most Messi fans, the irrationality is born out of the need to see him have one (or many, even) over Ronaldo and cementing his place as the "G.O.A.T" as we call him.
What we actually mean is, while we love the Super Eagles and would want to see us win the game, we'd rather Messi (Argentina) benefits from our loss (if we lose) than any other team/player.
Of course, there are exceptions to my sweeping generalization about Barça fans supporting Messi tomorrow - they are always exceptions to any such rule, you two being examples. But MOST Nigerian Barça fans want Messi to progress to the next stage, even if it's at our expense, sadly.
All you need do is search out posts by Nigerian 'Messi fans' on social media platforms (Twitter, especially) and the interactions with them/us off the internet.
Again, it's an oddly irrational loyalty. We all know this. Ok lets do it this way.For every one to be happy. Let Messi score 5goals. But let Nigeria win 6:5. How about that? |

TSOM: He's not alone. Most Nigerian Barça fans want Messi (Argentina) to win; to win every international competition, even if it's against us.
It's probably unpatriotic but we can't even explain away the irrationality. Only Barça fans understand why we are that fanatical.
It is wrong but it feels so right. Oga, I am also a Barca and Messi Fan asides being Arsenal. But Nigeria before any useless club abeg. |

Lautechgossip: Turkish referee, Cuneyt Cakir has been picked to handle the Super Eagles’ final Group D fixture against Argentina on Tuesday at St Petersburg, with two other Turks alongside.
The 41-year-old who was in charge of proceedings when Juventus faced FC Barcelona in the 2014/2014 UEFA Champions League final will be assisted by compatriots Bahattin Duran and Tarik Ongun.
Cakir is said to have a high-profile list of players he sent off during his career, including Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Nani, and had earlier officiated the Iran vs Morocco game.
The Turk has as his Fourth Official Bjorn Kuipers of Netherlands and Sander van Roekel, also of Netherlands, as the Reserve Assistant Referee.
His Turk assistants had worked with him during the FC Barcelona vs Juventus game, as well as the Morocco vs Iran game.
The Dutch assistants had handled the Brazil vs Costa Rica game of Friday in St Petersburg, with three other officials.

Sir calm down. Don’t let it scare you. Life will go on and hopefully we would come stronger. See, let me tell you, I know that Argentina are favorite to win that game. But I try not to dwell on that. I look at the positives. This is not my first WC so I am not even scared of a group exit. I just want to have a positive mindset. The way you are sounding it is as if you actually wish Argentina should win so you can come here and say "I told you". You are free to condition your mind for a defeat. But some of us here have conditioned our mind that we will make it to the next round. But if we do not make it, so? Then you can come around with your "I told you, I told you" and receive your medal for it. |

TheGoodJoe: Our performance which was impressive has to do with our mobility. We need to stick with our most mobile set-up which includes Nacho and Musa. Iwobi, Simy and Ighalo do not fit into that set-up.
I say with stick to our winning system. Like "You don't change a winning team" right? Hahaha. |

TheGoodJoe: After carefully looking at different angles and suggestions, I think boss Icon4s point on having the force of full backs being critical to us cracking the opposition, I think our set-up in most of the second half of the Iceland game is our best set-up. Most especially having most of our most mobile players in front of the set-up makes a whole lot of sense.
We can press with force, track back with intensity and counter attack with insane speed. Even though I feel Moses would be devastating pairing as a mobile striker with Nacho, I feel him playing the wing back along with Ebuehi on the left will provide the right balance.
Fly Eagles Fly. This is our best formation for the next game |
