He was still special. I remember the commentary like yesterday. When the Camerounians finally got the first goal pass Ajiboye, the commentator before that was saying,

"Dele Ajiboye, what a special talent. It would only take something special to get pass the lad in goal."

And indeed rhe special that happemed was that our defence crumbled. Have you forgotten it was Ladan Bosso that took us to that AYC? Man messed up mehn... Ajubote was awesome at that championship. I watched it. You cannot blame him for our 2-0 loss and 2-1 loss as if na him go keep still come defend. He was special and even the commentators could not hide it.
All goalies concede goals but ridiculing Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Uche Okafor for the goals they conceded is not fair.
Do you also recall that the game Ezenwa conceded 4 was 0-0 after 90mins? The defense that had Efe Ambrose and Echiejile crumbled and I remember Ezenwa making numerous saves during the regular 90mins. We were at the back foot for the most of that game.

I reiterate it that no body did Ajiboye any wrong. His time comes when it comes. That's all.

Uche Okafor used to chase ball like a child chasing Chicken. How that guy went to U17 and U20 World Cup beats my imagination.
This same Uche Okafor is in Rohr's radar.

He was first choice at Ifeanyi Ubah FC last season. I don't know of this season cos I have stopped following the league since they left Super Sports. I cannot be wounding me eyes say I dey watch NPFL for NTA.

Heir apparent or not does not stop us from making efforts to build our most exceptional talents. As for Alampasu, I only ask for the foreign goalkeeper trainer to carry him to camp and screen him with the rest. If they do better than Alampasu, fine. If they do not, then we are deceiving ourselves thinking we are going with the best.
So what if as at that time we just attached Alampasu as you are proposing for Ajiboye and then closed our eyes to Uzoho and Maduka? Or we would attach all 3 at once.

He wasn't. That was Uche Okafor. Ajiboye was injured and kept goal only the U-20 AYC/AFCON where he was really special. wink

Anyway, main point is he was not in goal at the 2009 U-20 World cup.
Ajiboye special at the AYC wey Cameroon knack us 2-0 in the semi. Was he not also the one in goal when South Africa came from 1-0 down to beat us 2-1?

Was 07 U20 not the one Sanchez and Co. gave us four? Tufia. Exceptional for where. I watched that tourney. He was not exceptional. Ajiboye and Bassey were close to magic.
Wasn't Ajiboye in goal at 2009 U20 when we lost our first 2games and conceded 3 in the second round against Germany?

And Bassey only kept at U17 he was not tested at U20.

Abeg we don't need all those Ajiboye sentiment here. Nobody did any thing wrong to him.

It was necessary if for a second we had an eye on the future and building a top quality goalkeeper or maybe the best I the World. Imagine a talent like Ajiboye in camp training with the likes of Enyeama and under the tutelage of Ike Shorunmu for about two or three years. His quality would have been Outstanding.

That is a room to bridge the gap of the lack of quality training our special talents might miss out on. The exposure, Brutal.

I have always hammered on behind the scene is key. That is my point. We are fund of relaxing when we find the next shining object.
Bros I say again, that arrangement was not necessary.

Football is not always 1+1=2. Some times in football 1+3 can equal 2. That is you give so much and get little in return. You cannot be sure of who will come out good. You invest so much time in a keeper and at the end of the day the result is not what you expect.

At a time it seemed as if Alampasu was the Heir apparent to the SE goal post and I said it here that he may never be our first choice that some other keeper may spring up.

Even Uzoho may not end up as Eagle's first choice.

Sure you know Austine Ejide was second choice to Ike at the 2002 WC. He looked like the heir apparent but at the end Enyeama was first choice for the better part of it.

You don't just pick just one goalie and call him a special talent and attach him alone for years to the national team and close your eyes to other emerging goalies.

Besides we have had different coaches all the years and they all had their own philosophies. So don't blame anybody.

I wonder if you skimmed past when I pointed out that Akpan Bassey of the U17 team of 2001 was another exceptional talent we spotted?

I am talking of exceptional talents. Not every body. cheesy
Bros, there us no way we will carry all these goalies along. Akpan Bassey( i even know him personally) also came at a time when the trio of Enyeama, Ejide and Ayenugba were at their best.

Do you know Ezenwa was also exceptional at the 2007 U20? How many keeper we wan invite to camp?

TheGoodJoe:
I said we should not wait for clubs to develop our talents before supporting them. I wonder where you are getting automatic slots from. Baffling. I say create room for the exceptional ones to train with the team. Not play or get automatic slots.

I also called for the establishment of a team b.

Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali was not even in the picture. It was about an exceptional talent like Ajiboye, identified and abandoned.

If we had someone like Rohr with us all these years, this would not have happened. He would take steps to support our exceptional talents.
To create room is it not to create slots or automatic spots?

We should not wait for clubs? The clubs is even the best place for them to get groomed and not the national team.

So if we had Rohr all these years he would have "created room" for Ajiboye when we had better goalies like Enyeama, Ejide and Ayenugba? That was not necessary oga.

Yes because Iwobi blows holes into the saying of the National team is for top players already doing well. There is also room for nurturing.
Oga you cannot because Iwobi got his debut at such an age and use that to call for Osimhen all in the name of nurturing. We saw Iwobi's class as a senior player before he was invited. I am yet to see anything from Osimhen as a senior player. Period.

De Gea is in an environment that provides amazing grooming. From the academy being coached by Professional coaches to leagues that promote the development of young players.

Yet you want Ajiboye who was not supported by the National team and Did not have close to the nurturing environment De Gea enjoyed to be on the same level?

Why do you think I am clamoring for more support? A player like Ajiboye with support and exposure would have become top quality.
Do you know Ajiboye moved to Spain shortly after that U17 WC?

I hear you. It is only Ajiboye that needed the support.

So if the player wins MVP, then he can not be World Class. Funny again.

It is not about winning MVP but identifying exceptional talents and nurture them. Saviola broke the U20 scoring record, scoring an astonishing 11 goals, did not come close in quality to Tevez who in the same year scored 2 in the U17.

I have said before. Talent is one thing. Then comes hard work and support. I want our exceptional players to work hard but the National team should contribute in providing support.
Did I say if a player wins MVP he cannot be world class?

Your argument is that because Osimhen won golden boots at U17 and K. Nwakali won golden ball too they should be given automatic slots in the national team because they are special talents.

And I tell you NO that most MVPs and Golden boot winners don't end up well so let the duo prove their mettle at club senior level first.

Abi no be wetin we dey argue?

Iwobi and Osimhen play totally different positions, so, we can not start comparing them. Their styles are totally different.

Secondly, you are missing the point of the debate. The point is we should hand hold more. An example was Rohr hand holding Awaziem, Osimhen. I gave an example. I wonder how you have turned that to we should hand hold Awoniyi. Funny.

Are you Rohr to understand what he has seen in Osimhen that sparked his interest? How are you sure Dessers or Awoniyi have what he is looking for.

Iwobi did not fit into your experience, do well in club for some time criteria.

Finito.
Were you not the one that brought in Iwobi?
See you?

Which of them won MVP and or highest goal scorer? And where are the players that won the MVP and highest goal scorers when these guys played U17?

Ajiboye won golden glove ahead of De Gea. Where ate the two today?

You can see another case of the National team playing a part in the rise of a special talent?
Firstly, take it from me that in terms of talent, Iwobi and Osimhen are not on the same level.

Secondly, England was also pushing for the young man. So Nigeria needed to do the needful.

Thirdly, though Iwobi had not played any senior game for Arsenal( he did that same month he played for Nigeria) but he featured prominently in Arsenal's preseason tour and his performance was enough to attract the attention of the national team handlers.

Fourthly, Iwobi's kind of ability could not be ignored for the position we desired of him. We were in need of a potential replacement for Mikel and Iwobi was beginning to show traits of an Heir apparent.

Fifthly, the only time Osimhen did anything exceptional was at the U17 in 2015. As a senior player for Wolfsburg he has not done anything that has set him apart from other young strikers.

If you are looking for young players to "hold hands", you should also consider likes of Kingsley Michael, Taiwo Awoniyi, Cyriel Dessers among others . Osimhen is yet to break out of the park IMHO.

elyte89 my man oya prove it that Kameni is better than Enyeama base on national team level cos i already agreed that Kameni have it on club level.

Jiday didn't swerve but agreed with my opinion and that's normal for a gentleman to do.

As far back as 2010 Kameni lost his position as number one after he came in as number one in late 2002 and never reclaim it while Enyeama snatched it from Ike Shorunmu in 2002 and lost it in 2008 afcon to Ejide but the same 2008 reclaimed it till he left unceremoniously in 2016.

Kameni had 71 caps and Enyeama had 101 caps and both are well recognised by CAF as one of the finest to come out of Africa.

In Europe i gave it to Kameni but national team i gave it to Enyeama though to sum it all Kameni have it but respect to both for doing Africa proud.

Point of correction, at the last U23 olympics qualifier tournament, Osimhens introduction in the 2nd half changed the game in our favor. His hold up play is brilliant. He was outstanding in the finals as well. We are not in Rohrs mind, he will pick the best team.

OK we are not in Rohr's mind so we should just shut down the thread and go our ways and not discuss any player here any more.
