tbaba1234: Seriously, what happened to that...
I remember the thunderous shouts when Nigeria scored in the early 1990's.. It was like being in the stadium yourself. People have stopped following football generally and the followership of the Eagles has drastically reduced. I watched clips of a game recently: Nigeria vs Italy, FIFA U17 semifinal, Canada 87. Echoes of the wild jubilations that followed after Christopher Nwosu scored that goal just rushed through my mind. I saw the young Dimeji Lawal in that clip and how skillful he was. I was now wondering what was the hype about Musa Yahaya sef? Honestly those boys were so good. Kog45, please compare Dimeji Lawal with Musa Yahaya. I believe we have seen better days of Nigerian football. |

TheSuperNerd: The Grand Elders and Elder Elites have come again........ Bukande kwa.... Who be that? Bukande was one of the top Senegalese footballers then.He was their captain. He was Just like Sadio Mane of today. He was part of their coaching crew to Korea/Japan 2002 WC. Those days na individuals dey win games for countries o. That was the same tournament that Ghana also had Abedi Pele and Anthony Yeboa, Ivory Coast had Joel Tiehi, Abdoulahi Traore, and Ben Sala. Nigeria had Yekini and Keshi, Zambia had Kalusha Bwalya and Chikabala, Guinea had Abubakar Titi Camara, and a host of others. AFCON was like war then o. |

Kog45: Oga icon4s pls dey post those videos especially maroc 88,Algiers 90,Senegal 92 and Tunisia 94 for guys to see the best generation of Super eagles. Oga I get them plenty. Tell the young generation how the neighborhood would go agog with wild jubilations each time Nigeria scored a goal. Nothing like EPL or Laliga then. Everybody was glued to the Nigerian match. The thunderous shouts of Gooooooooaaaaalllllll from different houses was just something else especially for games played at midnight. Na to party till day break dey follow. Football was serious business then. It was like war. |

tbaba1234: Senegal 92, my first major football heartbreak. When we lost to Ghana, i cried. I was very young and not that interested in Algiers '90.
Keshi was at fault for the goal, we conceded against Senegal. That Ghana game! Chai! My Edward Anser of Iwuanyanwu (my club then) was in goal for Ghana. Keeper wey we dey manage for our naija league then come turn stumbling block for naija in that match o. We had some football crazy Ghanaian fans in my neighborhood then. oh come and see the mockery we received. That Ghanaian player that scored that winner: Prince Opoku Polly. I will never forget that name. I could not eat that night despite how my mum persuaded me. But I later ate sha. When the shock don commot for my body nobody reminded me say I Nova chop night food. That of Algiers 90. I cried when Algeria scored the 4th goal in that opener. I couldn't watch again. I left to the corridor to cry my hearts out. When Nigeria pulled one back my elder brothers called me in. Only for minutes later Algeria made it 5. Raba Madjer. That guy. Chai! What of Maroc '88 final? We scored a clean goal (Henry Nwosu) but it was disallowed. Only for that dubious ref to award Cameroon a soft penalty. I think Eguavoen caused it. That one na annoyance everybody take finish that match. Our team had a good tournament overall and were accorded a heroic welcome. The 1984 final na Nigeria scored first o. Muda Lawal. How we allowed Cameroon to score 3 pass us is still a mystery to me cause I only have memories of the first half. I didn't like football like that then. 1994 Super Eagles wiped away all our tears after many years of shocking defeats. |

Kog45: Friday Ekpo was a good midfielder with too much of skill, well respected in the local league with Abiola Babes,Leventis United,ACB and iwuayanwy Natiomale. He also had a stint with athletic petro of Gabon but couldn't raise his game after Senegal 92 and this paved way for Sunday Olishe.
I still remember his well tailored pass at Senegal 92 to Stephen Keshi that gave us the second goal against Senegal. It was high tension match with Siasia scoring a beautiful goal and Jules Bocande equalised for Senegal after snatching ball from Keshi but Keshi redeemed his image after scoring the second goal and the winner. Ow that highly electrifying game. Playing against the host in the tournament opener no be beans. Memories of playing against Algeria in the opener of Algiers 90 still hunted us. Just that we had a stronger team and playing against a relatively weaker opposition. Jules Bukande, that guy na baller. Both teams played well. It was highly tensed. We saw the best of Keshi after Senegal equalized. Think I saw the video on YouTube sometime ago. I will look for the highlights and post here. |

tbaba1234: Potential, say in 4-5 years depending on his age 4-5 years is a long time in football. Many new players will rise and many old players will drop. If he doesn't look like he can make it in the next 1 or 2 years then he is on a long thing. |

Humility017: it boils down to the tactical nature of our clubs in the npfl.... okputu with so physical prowess...by now should have been worked upon and developed had it been he was privilege to be born abroad....
so unfortunate such a huge talent cannot really be harnessed....and now some want rohr to start doing what his club coaches and teams he ever played for...fail to do all this while....
it is grossly impossible... Eh but sebi they say he is 23. If players like Iheanacho, Iwobi, Ndidi, Awaziem, Ebuehi, Aina are still work in progress. They and Okpotu are in their early 20s na. Then there is hope for Okpotu for 2022 WC. |

BARAJ92: wrong The basic logic of these calculations is simple: any team that does well in world football wins points which enable it to climb the world ranking. A team’s total number of points over a four-year period is determined by adding: The average number of points gained from matches during the past 12 months; and The average number of points gained from matches older than 12 months (depreciates yearly). Calculation of points for a single match The number of points that can be won in a match depends on the following factors: Was the m atch won or drawn? ( M ) How important was the match (ranging from a friendly match to a FIFA World Cup™ match)? (I )How strong was the opposing team in terms of ranking position and the confederation to which they belong? (T and C) These factors are brought together in the following formula to ascertain the total number of points (P): P = M x I x T x C The following criteria apply to the calculation of points: M: Points for match result Teams gain 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a defeat. In a penalty shoot-out, the winning team gains 2 points and the losing team gains 1 point. From the game played against Angola how many points are we getting? 1, 2 or 3. cc: TheSuperNerd, Certitude. |

TheSuperNerd: Haba naa.... Who talk this one? Ahn ahn..... I think it is clear that Uzoho still needs to work on his decision making and sense of positioning... He showed some fine glimpses but it is not eureka yet naa... Seems it was while you were away. People pointed out Ezenwa's weaknesses and we all agreed but I asked about Uzoho's weakness and some said they can't point any. Someone even said his only weakness is he cannot speak Spanish. Give Uzoho more game time and we will know him better. No goalkeeper is perfect. Uzoho is a great prospect but I still believe he is being hyped here. He has a long way to go. |

Danielnino00: Oga,no worry.. we will recoup those points in the march friendlies I'm sure That is where you will now see Nigerian fans criticizing the rankings. You will beat Poland and expect your rankings to jump only for FIFA to remind you that you recently drew against Rwanda and Angola. Besides CHAN carry 3points while Friendlies carry only 1point. |
