safarigirl: who is the we that will be out before the third game? You dey follow anybody kick ball?
You can choose to OPT OUT of watching the third game as protest for our inability to play whoever it is you would prefer in goal, but the TEAM go dey alright.
TheGoodJoe: Who was Oliseh before his Super Eagles callup?
What of Julius Aghahowa?
There are many that shows the National team is a building/grooming ground for quality talents. What of Omeruo?
As at 1993 when Oliseh had his debut for Nigeria he was in his 3rd season at RFC Liege of Belgium. So he was no green horn in the game.
As at 2000 when Julius Aghahowa was included in the AFCON team, he had featured at the U20 WC in 1999 ( which is a lot more competitive than the U17) where he shone brightly. And he had moved from Bendel insurance to Esparance De Tunis.
The only record Osimhen has going for him is at his U17. I have not seen any other thing he has done after that that is worthy of he being invited to the Super Eagles.
Now, that he is the Wolfsburg Senior team, let us see him score goals before we talk of including him in the team.
I recon more with players that shine at the U20 than at the U17.
elyte89: Boss, kameni better pass enyeama o,he played and faced d best players week in week out for long b4 enyeama made a breakthrough into a major league (France)
Enyeama and Kameni don't really belong to the same era. So difficult to judge.
TheGoodJoe: So if the player is good but is not getting the right opportunity due to one factor or the other. We just saw a case of Ajiboye not given a sniff in looking in until the foreign trainer came and screened some keepers. Even if we set up a team b and a regular program with the U23 and U21, we need to make room for real Outstanding talents to work with the Senior team.
They must not make the final list but have the high quality training of the National team to help improve them.
Contrary to the point you tried to make that lots of promising talents fail along the line, a lot of promising talents became top quality.
From Fabregas, Iniesta, Xavi, Pique, Pedro, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo De Lima, Romario, Pele, Maradona, Diego Forlan, Kaka, Robinho, Neymar, David Silva, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Tevez, Figo, Michael Owen, Lampard, Beckham, Paul Scholes, Pirlo, Sanchez, Vidal, Kanu, Casillas and many more.
So, we must play our part in a lot of ways. A hand holding program in the Senior team is one of the ways. Look at the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Neymar and Lucas Moura who broke into their Senior National team in their teens. Do you think Brazil did not have quality experienced names to fill those slots?
Osimhen and the Nwakalis' cases are quite different. They are not currently in the team not because anyone is blocking them but simply because they are currently not up to the mark.
On Dele Ajiboye I saw from a previous post where you said he was ignored all these years. So we should have swept aside Enyeama, Ejide and Ayenugba? He was no where near these guys then.
Take a look at that list of great players you mentioned, how many were MVPs and Golden boot winners at U17? Most of them Stared at the U20.
At the U20 level players that will end up as world class would have already started showing the traits. The U20 and U21 tournaments for European countries are more important but for us we underrate the U20 and that is why we have always failed at that age level.
If Osimhen had probably done what he did at U17 at the U20 oh then no doubt no one can dispute his stardom.
Even, Awoniyi, Iheanacho and Yahaya were dwarfed when they featured at the U20 compared to what they did at U17.
An U21 team will give these young players better opportunity to develop and get selected for the Main Super Eagles.
tbaba1234: Iwobi/Iheanacho/Ebuehi/ etc are also prospects who can play for youth teams. .Uduokhai already plays regularly in the Bundesliga when fit. Some of our players will be unable to command a starting shirt in the bundesliga especially at center back where experience is usually favored. Uduokhai can already compete with the defensive personnel with the level he is playing at
tbaba1234: I define a world class prospect as a player who can become world class if they keep improving and are properly managed.
Essentially, a top prospect.
If i am not mistaking World class prospect, meaning "has the prospects of becoming world class".
The good and bad News is that.... Bad news first: Only very few players who had prospects of becoming world class end up as world class. And the good news: so many players who were not initially considered as having prospects of becoming world class end up as world class.
For eg where are all the MVPs and highest goal scorers of the past FIFA U17 WCs. For those that have retired how did they retire? For those that are still playing where are they playing. Are they world class?
But meanwhile there are some other players that never won MVP, Silver ball or bronze ball or even highest goal scorers and some couldn't even make their respective teams and yet ended up world class.
World class prospects remain what they are: "Prospects " until they start proving themselves wherever they find themselves. This is a major reason I don't buy TheGoodJoe's idea of keeping slots for Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali, Chidi Nwakali and the likes. Let them first show it at club level that they are worthy of any invitation first before being invited.
The Super Eagles is not a grooming ground for young players. Let them get developed at their respective clubs.
Alternatively, I still clamour for the existence of a standing U21 team where we'll keep nurturing and assessing players who are 21 or less but are yet to get Super Eagles call ups. They must not necessarily take part in any continental competition. They will have the U20 or U23 coach as their coach. Each time there is a FIFA free window, we organise a top friendly for them. With this we will always have ready successors for aging players and also the U21 team would easily be progressed to the U23s almost seamlessly and because they must have been playing together for long they will likely perform well and of course again produce more players for the Super Eagles.
soetanoreoluwa: I know, am just saying ,things might have changed after his ordinary performance in GWG. We just need to wait till next month to see him again...
Willem II Nigerian goal machine, Bartholomew Ogbeche is back in the groove for the Tricolores in their 2-2 quarterfinal Holland Cup clash draw with Roda Kerkrade on Thursday evening.
The 33-year old pulled Willem level after 39 minutes of the game after Simon Gustafson had earlier shot their visitors into the lead from the spot.
Donis Avdijaj profited from an Adil Auassar's assist to power Roda back in front three minutes after the restart but Kostantinos Tsimikas made sure the the Tilburg-based side would take the game to extra time as the battle for the last four heated up.
After the ensuing 30 minutes which failed to produce any goals, William Ndenge's miss in the shootout for Roda proved enough as Ogbeche and his side advanced to the next round.
For the former PSG whizkid, the goal was his ninth in all competitions for the club this season, a tally which continued one of the most productive campaigns for the journey man striker.
Willem II would meet either of Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar or FC Twente in the semifinals of the competition.
tbaba1234: Rohr already has most of his team but these guys can fight for the remaining spaces or make the coach change his mind if they are in good form.
I get you but what I am saying is March is just next month so you need to have already started now to be firing those cylinders that will make Rohr change his mind. We should be expecting the March friendlies list from later this Month.
If you want to make it to Russia, it starts with the March Friendlies.
tbaba1234: If Osimhen Ideye, Success, and Musa start firing on all cylinders, Rohr will have a major selection headache.
I don't think there would be any selection headache here. on that list we have those that have inside chance while some have outside chance. March is not like 8months time, it is next month and as from 3 weeks time we should be expecting the list of invitees. So anybody that wants to impress Rohr should have already commenced doing that now.
pussypounder: Idowu and Aina should make the 23 man squad to Russia, Echiejile the pensioner has no business in the team
Aina has not really been so imposing at that LB. Competition may force Echiejile to up his game. So let's wait to see them in the friendlies and for Rohr to decide on that.
kennysville: Those of you that like to mediate.... you are all witnesses now. I am yet to start any tirade on this forum and believe me when I start, it will get really ugly. Yall can read what ur friend here is saying now. If he cant discuss here without resorting to low digs, well it wont be nice. We all know how to throw some sass around. Call him to order ... for the last time
Thanks
Cc: Icons4s, Kog45 , TheGoodJoe, Joebie and others. Forgive me if I dont remember ur moniker
Kenny my brother, you are one of those I respect on this thread for your objectivity and matured contributions.
@ TheSuperNerd you raised a question about Echiejile.
I believe in the role experience can play in the defense especially the experience of playing together with other defenders in the team, but, I know where to draw the line between experience and ability.
One LB I know that is miles ahead of Echiejile is Brian Idowu.
I don't know how many LBs Rohr plans taking to Russia but if it is one then Idowu it is. But if he opts for 2 LBs he will have to decide on who to drop between Echiejile and Aina and that would be after assessing them in the proposed friendlies.
Salisu finally seemed to have found a more befitting role for the misfiring Okpotu who does not have the qualities of a natural finisher.
Ajiboye has staged a claim to a place in the party to Russia. He knew that was the chance and he grabbed it with both hands. Ezenwa and Ajiboye have both proven that they are hands we can rely on. But.....not to pour ice water on our excitement, we played Angola and Sudan. And the CHAN is not even up to the AFCON standard let a lone the WC (Food for thought). But all the same kudos to both goalies. They have done us proud.
And kudos to the entire team for reaching the final.
Morocco will definitely be a tough nut, but they are crackable.
TheSuperNerd: It is done.... Dortmund confirmed it today. Aubameyang is an arsenal man... He is a gunner... Chief Icon4s, Sir Tbaba1234, Sir Edi287, and other Arsenal faithfuls... Congrats. I guess you need more than a Mhkitaryan after all especially after the Swansea experience...
Welcome your Auba! The batman... Now Africa's most expensive player of all time (within Europe alone) even trumping the incoming Navy Keita to Liverpool move later in the summer. Overall, he is now second to Cedric Bakambu to went to China for £65 million (including tax). Auba's is £56million.
Even Madam Dominique na Arsenal faithful too.
Me na GWG to the core... Hehehehee...
So now it is, L acazette-A ubameyang-M hki-O zil-I wobi
LA MOI....

TourismMan: High rate of unemployment in Nigeria is no longer a topic for debate as the obvious truth is seen in most families in the country especially those without connections and 'long legs'. The country undoubtedly has been hijacked by the political elites and men/women of substances in high places. These are the people who believe they own the country, therefore, they channel every good thing in the country to themselves including the topic at hand: employment leaving others, the poor and average citizens gasping for breathe for survival in the same country. What a country!
While those in the families of the political elites may not experience one unemployed individual in their immediate and extended family, others in the poor and average families have stockpile of family members unemployed or in some cases underemployed (but that is a topic for another day).
For example in my family, I would use both immediate and extended family to draw my points. Over 85-90% of my family members are currently unemployed. Most of them are graduates in different fields while some are not. These are people under the age of 45. Some graduated from tertiary institutions many years ago with nothing to engage on till now. This however has left me to wonder what the future holds especially for me as I am in university at the moment. God forbid, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where older ones are. I repeat, God forbid!!!
Figuratively, I can count 24 vibrant young men under the age 45 unemployed in my immediate and extended family. I can also count at least 20 women under this same age range (married or single) unemployed. Mind you, most of these people are graduates.
I know people would say, entrepreneur is the solution to the situation, but most of these people can't even have access to N100k to start something. How do they start then with nothing as capital in their hands? Secondly, if the said entrepreneur is that reliable, how come the political elites not encouraging their children and loved ones to subscribe to it but would rather secure gainful employments for them in high places and then resort to advising the poor and average citizens to embrace entrepreneur?
This thread can serve as a poll/platform for Nigerians to pour out the unemployment situations in their respective families for the world to see what is going on in the country called Nigeria. Who knows, these political elites may pause to have a rethink after reading the unfortunate situations going across the country.
Lastly, as a question, how is the unemployment situation in your family? What is the way forward?
Let's tell the world and chart a new course. We can't continue like this. Not at all!!!
Being unemployed or underemployed is enough for one to commit suicide in a country like Nigeria where cost of living is high and a lot is being expected of you as a young graduate.
Though I was unemployed for only about 2months after NYSC but was underemployed for a period of 14months. And I will say every single day that passed was always a sad one for me.
I bless God for my liberation.
I have a good number of cousins that were not as fortunate as I was with the labour market (as I even had to make choices when the big jobs finally came). Some were unemployed for 3-5. Some have ever since been underemployed. Some have even recently lost their jobs.
It is a terrible situation my brother.
But my advice to you as you are still in school is YOUR CASE CAN BE DIFFERENT. Don't carry that "There are no jobs" mentality into the labour market. It can really be demoralizing and it can make you easily join the band wagon. I chosed to study engineering at a period when there were no jobs for Engineering graduates in the country. But when I came out of school I saw things differently and I hit the ground running.
MetalJigsaw: 5 Outstanding Home Eagles So Far At CHAN 2018
With the Home-based Super Eagles set to face Sudan in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU picks Nigeria’s top five players so far at the tournament…
IKECHUKWU EZENWA
The captain of the team was at his best in Nigeria’s 2-1 quarter-final victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola on Sunday. The Eagles should probably have been home now and not thinking of a date with Sudan in the last four if not for his bravery and heroics in goal. Ezenwa has led by example in the competition even though he was largely tested prior to the Angolan game but he has been a good leader on and off the pitch.
STEPHEN EZE
The tall defender was axed in a couple of test games ahead of the African Nations Championship and that seems to have motivated him as he has worked very hard to become a mainstay in the team’s defence. Eze, who will link up with Bulgarian club Locomotiv Plovdiv at the end of the competition won the man of the match in the game against Rwanda.
DAYO OJO
Dayo Ojo was dropped from the squad to the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, but he has proved his worth with an impressive showing in Morocco. The Sunshine Stars midfielder scored a screamer in Nigeria’s last group game against Equatorial Guinea and was duly named the man of the match. He also did well in the quater-final clash against Angola, and he was one of Nigeria’s best performers in the game.
KALU ORJI
One of the four players in the team that were part of the squad to the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. He has formed a formidable partnership with Stephen Eze at the heart of the team’s defence and was sorely missed after going off injured in Nigeria’s quarter-final game against Angola.
OSAS OKORO
The right-back has done his job well in the competition. Originally a right winger, the Enugu Rangers player is a willing runner who always supports the attack and performs his defensive tasks.
Kog45: Sir,it seems this boy has offended you and humility17 before cos as a Nigerian he has every right to aspire to play for Eagles,so I don't see anything wrong in his comment.
I thought the young man pledged his allegiance to Nigeria sometimes ago and was even in U20 camps during English league break and played two friendly matches,so let encourage our FBs who are willing to represent us,truly he can't even make the team but good to hear that is willing if invitation is extended to him.
Hahaha, read my post again. It was more of a comical statement. The national team is open to all Nigerians as long as you have the quality.
AIG07: Sir, no one is ever to old to learn. Okpotu and co cases won't be an exception.
These are simple football techniques. They can be taught and improved on.
We have seen cases where older players improve in certain aspect of their game. V. Moses is a winger turned wingback at 26. Mikel had poor shooting skills, even to the extent that he doesn't even dare to take one. But today he has improved.
Note: I am only calling for improvement and I'm sure that isn't much to ask for.
I understand you but know that you cannot Learn to use the left hand at old age. Hahaha
