Too harsh for a man who gave us our best record in the CHAN and a man who has given so much for Nigerian football. Salisu Yusuf deserves more respect than this.
Trust some Nigerian fans.

The next match he wins now they shout he is a genius.

Forget the U-23, that's too far back. Just check him out in the recent world cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo - the first leg. Victor Moses, Leon Balogun and Etebo were out best players. The problem with Nigerian fans is that once a player has one bad game, they would write him off completely. And then once he has another good game, everyone would jump back into his bandwagon.

... very fickle fans.

O pari
Just like how they are jumping to blame Rohr now for preferring Onazi to him when they themselves have put him on the standby list.

I think, this informed his move to la liga.

I think his best position is the one he played against Algeria where his energy level was best put to use. He is not a number 10.
Etebor's best position is CM and not AM. I have always said this.

I thought Etebo was a super regular in Portuguese league before moving to Spanish league but still find it difficult to break into Eagles starting eleven despite Onazi indifferent form in Turkish league.

It seems Rohr rate Onazi highly cos if we want to go by club performance Onazi shouldn't have been making eagles starting eleven.

Sometimes only coach can tell us why his preference for some players and i will not deceive you player like Mikel ObiMoses,Ndidi,Balogun, Ekong,Onazi,Ighalo,Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi,no matter their form at their club,it would be hard for Rohr to drop them to the bench unless they failed to impress in eagles colour.

Etebo just need to work hard to make the team not even Onazi cos Onazi is a trusted boy and has never failed Rohr in eagles colour though not good not to be playing regularly cos it affects.
I rate Etebor highly, but his last two games or so with the Eagles were average.

Majority of us here agreed he lacked the creativity required of an AM.

This is a player majority if us here have already lowered his chance of making it to Russia.

Rohr knows why he rates Onazi that highly.

The rating was in depth and had some points but I will prefer an opinion for someone that rewatched the game with the highlighted points I made. Keep in mind the writer gave Ikuowem a high rating based on offensive contributions, supporting the attack and splitting passes. However, my criticism lies in Ikuowem's poor defensive contributions.
And that alone made Ikouwem the worst player on the pitch?

I am OK with the live one I watched.

I am too passionate about Nigerian football. Each of those goals scored yesterday was like an arrow in my heart.

Sitting down alone till the blast of the final whistle was patriotic enough. Everyone in the hall left me only at 3-0.

Home advantage is just that, it is not exclusive to NPFL players, after all Morocco did not lose once. The blame should squarely lay on Salisu Yusuf, the players did their best but they never had a shepherd.
When a team wins. The coach gets the credit and when the team loses the coach also gets the blame.

But truth also be told. The quality of the Majority of those players were poor.

I was hoping that Morocco would come out feeling pressure but it was the opposite that happened. That El Kaabi (#9) wanted to kill us, the guy is a deadly striker, he should be going to the WC. I am still a bit disappointed in the poor fight I saw from the guy, seemed like they were just happy to make it so far and collect their cash.
Home advantage also played a part.

Nigerian sides(clubs) do not do well against home teams. That same thing that makes them lose most away matches both in the NPFL and CAF competitions. They do not do well against home teams.

I agree, a couple of those Moroccan players should be considered for the WC. The number 9, 11 and 7 players especially.

You can visit any nearest football academy and obtain your form.

Basic coaching certificate (BCC) is just 3months. You stand to learn a lot. You can go ahead and obtain the Diploma and more advanced ones if you so wish.

Egbon, coolu temper. I do not dispute the fact that 12 shots were on target and 4 goals were scored. And you said he saved 8. ie 12-4. But I am telling you that he did not save up to 8 that some were deflected off or blocked by players. It will seem as if I am running him down that I why I first had to clear my self that I am not trying to run him down but just want to state it the way it is.

And things change so quickly. If you do not upgrade, you will be left behind.
So true.

Infact when I learnt coaching what was in vogue was the regular 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 for more attacking options.

4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 were discussed but not as much as the regular 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 then

Then wingers must be natural wingers. But now
strikers and even midfielders and Full backs can be made to play from the wings.

That time, a striker must have a supporting striker. Hahaha. Stuffs like that.

The Diamond shape, false 9 inverted wingers stuff were not in vogue then. And I wouldn't be surprised to find out that a good number of these local coaches do not know about these new tactical formations.

Seriously, coaches should be getting the knowledge. What is the point if a player needs to start learning again when they go abroad.
The thing is a lot of these our coaches don't upgrade themselves.

I, for one, have a Basic coaching Certificate. I know what coaching knowledge I have acquired over the years since after completing that program like 14-15 years ago even though I didn't go into professional coaching.

They have to on their strive to up grade themselves. See what the likes of Siasia, Oliseh and Amuneke are doing.

In other words, most of Nigerian players playing in the NPFL dont have basic knowledge abi?

Has anyone really bothered to ask if these players are the best we have in the league? Like seriously? You watch EPL, you see the national team coach watching the leagues, monitoring players goin from venue to venue. I watched 2 EPL games where Gareth Southgate was in the stands watching back to back matches. Cant we borrow ideas? Even if epl is all about weekend entertainment , there are so many lessons to be learnt. I feel NFF should legislate that each clubside should have an academy team and also have their league too side by side.

Yesterdays defeat left a bad taste both in my mouth and my stomach. Thankfully i only watched the 1st half cos I knew yhe team was set up with a principle of what will be will be..... I am not even gonna start on any player.

In the nearest future now, these ones will come up and say they played for Super Eagles abi? Then you start scratching ur head and asking when was that?

I pray we get it right some day.
Salisu goes from venue to venue. That he has been assigned to do.

I have also seen a couple of Rohr's pictures at our NPFL venues

Talking about the lack of basic football knowledge I know what I am talking about as a lot of them still go through serious football schooling as soon as they arrive Europe.

I think Rohr is watching and as a coach he must know a good keeper even if the keeper concedes 12 goals in a match.

It's simple the goalkeeper stats would be the benchmark.

Ajiboye against Morocco had 26 shots 12 on targets and conceded 4 goals saved 8 in 90 minutes rating 7/10.I believe this should solve the whole issue.
I am not trying to bring any player down, I mean it will not affect my life in anyway, whether positive or negative.

We need to be saying things the way they are.

Being that the Moroccans had 12 shots on target and scored 4 doesn't mean Ajiboye saved the remaining 8. There were some that were either deflected or stopped by players along the line of those shots. Ajiboye did not make up to 8 saves last night.

Take nothing away from Morocco because at some moments they were top notch.
The Moroccans were easily the best team of the tournament.

After watching the first 10mins of that game, I knew it was a matter of time before our defense crumbled. A guy I watched the game with saw only 5 mins of that first half when it was still 0-0, left and said the game would end at least 3-0.

Like I said, the stats will dent Ajiboye's fine ability -- 4 goals in 3 games in open play. Of course stats don't consider many game factors. Ezenwa has had more game time for SE but with less goals conceded in open play (or goals conceded to games played ratio). Ezenwa remains ahead, but Ajiboye is better IMO. Not far better -- better, but in the same league.

I'm not talking about rating. Of course we cannot blame him for the loss.
You have changed again to "Ajiboye is better".

From the debate, the problem remains poor pool of players and the fact that the drain will continue. So I find it difficult to believe that scouting a poor pool will provide a strong squad. I disagree.

So, as long as the drain continues, we need to adopt an innovative strategy to combat this challenge.

My suggestion remains increasing the pool of players, camping them, screening and selecting the best.

I do not see a better solution.
By increasing the pool you are only increasing quantity but not quality.

The league cannot give what it does not have.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH: How Home Eagles Rated Vs Morocco

https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Morocco-vs-Nigeria.jpg

Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU runs the rule over the performance of the Home Eagles in their African Nations Championship final defeat against Morocco…

DELE AJIBOYE 7/10
Conceded four times in the game but still posted an impressive showing. He was let down by his defence for all the goals.

OSAS OKORO 4/10
Failed to live up to his previous heights in the competition as he was badly exposed by the Moroccans.

STEPHEN EZE 4/10
Eze was not at his best in the game and was giv a run around by the Moroccans. It was no doubt his worst showing of the competition.

KALU ORJI 5\10
The stand-in skipper tried in vain to put the defence together especially after Moses Eneji’s dismissal without success. He made a couple of vital blocks but it was not enough to prevent his side from losing.

IKOUWEN UDOH 6/10
A slightly above average performance from the young defender who was Nigeria’s best defender in the game. Played a number of defence splitting passes and defended well too.

EMEKA ATULOMA 4/10
Returned to the starting line-up after missing the semi-final win against Sudan due to injury. The Rivers United player started the game well but fizzled out like most of his teammates and was forced off in the second half due to injury.

RABIU ALI 4/10
A below-par showing which summed up his performance in the competition. He was replaced in the 57th minute by Augustine Oladapo.

DAYO OJO 4/10
Toiled hard to impress in the game with no success. He was outnumbered in midfield by the Moroccans.

EMEKA OGBUBH 4/10
Another player who returned to the starting line-up after missing out against Sudan due to injury. He probably did not shake off the injury enough as never really get into gear in the game.

MOSES ENEJI 4/10
Looked lively in what was his first start of the competition but was dismissed early in the second half for a rash challenge.

GABRIEL OKECHUKWU 5/10
He was completely isolated upfront and did not get the kind of service he would have required.

SUBSTITUTES

ANTHONY OKPOTU 3/10
Came in for Emeka Ogbuh early in the second half and didn’t do anything positive to turn the game around.

AUGUSTINE OLADAPO 4/10
He was surprisingly left on the bench after impressing in the semi-final against Sudan. He could do nothing to change the fortune of his team after his introduction for Rabiu Ali in the 56th minute.

MUSTAPHA IBRAHIM 2/10
Another substitute who did nothing to affect the game.

Oga icon4s it is a pity that our local coaches always messed themselves up.

Sir with what i saw during six NPFL invitational tournament i can tell you bodily that Plateau United two CB are better than what we paraded at CHAN,there is one Omoleye who was far better than Okpotu in all ramifications..

I don't have the opportunity of watching the league but with what I saw during six invitational tournament, Salisu is not doing enough to be candid.
Now we are discussing. Citing of names and cases, that is what I needed all night.

Now, I am not saying Salisu is perfect but entirely blaming him for the performance of the boys is what I am against.

Now, on the Plateau united CB duo, the question is which attacking threat did they come against? Eze and Orji were almost so perfect in their first two games ie Rwanda and Libya that some here started clamoring for their inclusion in the Super Eagles. Someone even said Orji has done better than Balogun.Just because they played against teams that had little or no attacking threats. The nature of opposition a team faces really determines how they perform.

On Okpotu, there is no way Salisu would have dropped the league's highest goal scorer for Omoleye. If Omoloye had been chosen now and Okpotu is left out, I am sure almost everybody here would have cried foul.

Some interesting comments:

Truly speaking, this group of players cannot be said to be the best in our local league. Even though they were hurriedly selected, I see some nepotic and religious spicing in the list. How many players came from MFN, Ifeanyi Uba, Insurance etc. Last year Nigeria local based were carefully selected to Spain for a tour, I saw some of the great games they played against some Spanish club team, in fact they played quality football. By Vindave
That is a personal opinion.

And yes the team that went to Spain played better football than this team just also like the last two CHAN teams played better football. But a lot of those players have left the local league. These are the ones around now.

The league cannot simply give what it does not have. That is my point. And if you know any player that deserved to be in this team but was left out please mention the name and let's discuss it.

It must not be a thousand players but a few hundreds. If Amunike can do it for the U20, why can't Salisu do it? If he is not ready for the work, he should step down.

That is why I said we should treat this tournament with more seriousness.
Go and apply for the job then.

TheGoodJoe:
My point is that we could parade better players in this tournament than players like these who could not kick and control ball.

My solution is to work with a larger pool the way we do in the best and from the large pool, select the best in every role. I can bet if we do that, lots of the players paraded here would not make the team.

Whether the players come from the NPFL or not, is not my criteria.
I am sure you know Salisu Yusuf was saddled with the responsibility of monitoring players in the league. That he has done for about a year now aside the fact that he has been a coach in the league for years.

TheGoodJoe, you don't know the league and the players better than Salisu.
Dont you even know he has a reputation to protect?

He sees these players week in week out and so doesn't need to assemble a pool of hundreds of players before he can select his team. These people are professionals o.

You watch football from the comfort of your living room. You don't know the selection process better than Salisu. Take that from me.
