I agree his career was on the rise BUT my opinion remains and I believe I have proven there were better strikers available both in terms of performances, stats and experience. It is not just my point. Were you not aware of the lack luster performances of Eneramo, Ujah, and Ideye which paved way for Uche Nwofor? |

The big countries will be the biggest winners if they took their leagues more serious. The tournament is a blessing to African football. Continental club competitions are more pivotal to the development of the local leagues. |

wayodude: Iheanacho serious stats for previous seasons that still validates his selection. Nwofor didn't and in any case is not a good comparison. Dude played for VVV Venlo and Herenveeen Under 21s not Man City alongside Aguero lol The Anthony Ujah that you are trying to project was invited to the Super Eagles what were his stats in the GWG? Brown Ideye was frozen out of the team due to dwindling performances. Eneramo was a player you and I know didn't have it good in the Super Eagles. Uche Nwofor, was a product of our youth system and his career was on the rise. He had two descent seasons leading to the world cup. He was one of our hottest young strikers then. Aging Emenike was our only established number 9 then as Ujah, Ideye, and Eneramo had all fallen out of favour. We needed a young striker who could grow to become our next number 9. Uche Nwofor was it. Uche Nwofor deserved to be in that team 100%. |

EEGA: Don't tell me that in a team that won two of their group matches and drew one, you can't "consider" just one of them for the match friendlies.
Including one or two of them in the call-up for the friendlies will serve as a morale booster for players who will be playing in the next CHAN.If not, we should just opt-out like Egypt and SA because there is no need for CHAN. Why not suggest those players and let's discuss. |

wayodude: Lets the stats do the talking shall we? I remember how frustrated I was when that squad was released. This made me start digging up superior replacements to most of the players Keshi picked.
Anthony Ujah – Cologne - 2 Bundesliga
12/13 – 13 goals, 3 assists 13/14 - 11 goals, 3 assists
14/15 – 10 goals, 3 assists - Bundesliga
Imoh- Standard Liege – Juplier Pro League
12/13 – 14 goals, 5 assists 13/14 – 10 goals, 8 assists
Eneramo – Sivasspor Turkish Super Lig 12/13 – 11 goals, 3 assists 13/14 – 4 goals, 3 assists
Osariemen Ebagua – Varese Serie B 12/13 - 17 goals, 1 assist 13/14 – 13 goals, 2 assists – Spezia Calcio, Seria B
Ideye Brown - Dynamo Kiev Ukrainian Permier League 12/13 – 17 goals, 3 assists 13/14 – 10, 6 assists (all competitions)
OR
Nwofor - VVV Venlo Eredivisie -
12/13 - 8 goals, 1 assist 13/14 – 10 goals 1 assist for Herenveen U21
14/15 – 2 goals for Lierse – Jupiler Pro League
I know who Rohr would have picked if he managed the team then, Oh and I also know who he surely wouldnt have picked too.
stats show league goals only except otherwise stated. Compare Iheanacho's current stats with those of Other Nigerian forwards and tell me why Rohr still sticks with Iheanacho. |

Humility017: likewise imoh Ezekiel...who bagged in 12 gaols in the Belgian league...
how uchebo who had just 5 goals for club d brugg made the list in place of Ezekiel still a mystery to me Firstly Nwofor scored more goals than Ezekiel that season. Nwofor is a natural CF while Ezekiel plays more from the wings and some times as an SS. We needed a back up striker more. So Nwofor it was. We had Musa, Moses and Osaze who all play from the wings. Ezekiel was not at par with those players. Uchebo plays more from a central position so he was not directly in contention with Ezekiel. |

wayodude: I 100% believe Nwofor did not deserve to be in the team. This is based on game stats in the year/years just prior to the world cup and his exposure and perceived ability by fans and opponents likewise. His selection though was less scandalous than that of Uchebo, Gabriel Ruben and Agbim. Uche Nwofor was the new kid in the block in the year leading to the World Cup. He was banging in goals at VV Venlo. In only his second game for the Eagles against SA at the Nelson Mandela Challenge, you have forgotten the brace he scored? One was even a back heel. He was even a second half substitute. He was our hottest striker at the 2011 AYC and WYC. As at that Time leading to the World cup he was highly rated as he showed great quality. He more than deserved to be in that team. If you say he later failed to leave up to expectations I will 100% agree. |

The CHAN tourney is just like disarming the strong men and arming the weak men and asking them to fight.
Nigeria remains the only West African team left in the tournament. West Africa has the highest export of quality players to other parts of the world. So it is no surprise that they have presented poor teams in this tournament.
Imagine a team like Namibia beating Ivory Coast, Rwanda drawing with Nigeria, Cameroon cannot win a single game in a group that has Congo, Angola and Burkina Faso. Ghanaian, Senegalese, and Malian teams even crashed out in the qualifiers
Now, the problem is this CHAN has been awarded a ranking point of 3 which is exactly same as that of the regular AFCON. This is a serious dis-service as so many weak teams would gain points and become highly ranked. While the real heavy weights themselves especially those from West Africa will really lose ranking points.
The rankings would become pseudo. When you see teams like Namibia, Libya, Angola, Congo and Sudan really limping over some heavy weights you understand what I am talking about.
Many pages back we were talking about how Nigeria can move to top 10 in the World. But with a tournament like CHAN it is not likely that any African team can make it because with this kind of tournament, the heavy weights will continue to struggle. For eg we have lost about 30 ranking points already with that draw with Rwanda.
You don't gain or lose any points for not participating in this CHAN tournament. Egypt does not take part in CHAN. Could that be a smart decision?
This CHAN tournament. I am still scratching my head. |

TheSuperNerd: Top Tackler Arsenal Vs Chelsea? Not Kante, Koscielny, Mustafi, Bakayoko But Iwobi
Alex Iwobi excelled defensively and offensively in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the semifinal of the League Cup, so much so that he was rated the best player on the Emirates Stadium in one very important statistic.
The Hale End Academy product had a game-high five tackles, one more than Laurent Koscielny and Tiemoué Bakayoko, who both finished the game with four tackles each.
Bringing those stats to life, Iwobi has averaged less than one tackle per game in the Premier League this season, with 13 tackles in 14 appearances.
The Nigeria international outshone Chelsea's top tackler in the Premier League N'Golo Kanté, who made zero tackles but the Frenchman still highlighted his defensive qualities in the center with a game-high seven interceptions.
Iwobi managed a total of two interceptions and one clearance, and had a passing accuracy of 76.8 percent. Arsenal have faced Chelsea five times this season in all competitions, with the Gunners number seventeen starting all but one of the games.

Because I want to respect the dead I don't just want to pour my mind on Keshi's selections. I will only focus on that of Rohr. For the first time in a very long while we have recently (under Rohr) been parading a Super Eagles team that when you see the line up you would hardly disagree that we are parading the best available players. So many of Keshi's players had no business in that team. Period. |

tbaba1234: Look back at the Keshi's CHAN team and this one.
The Keshi's team was so much better (after their first game) such that people were advocating the inclusion of players like Ejike and Odunlami into the WC team.
Can you sincerely look at this team so far and make a case for the inclusion of any player?
That was the expectation from CHAN to an extent. To find out which player can potentially be in the A squad. I could care less if we go out in the first round but discover good players.
Even when Oliseh got bundled out in the first round, we discovered Chikatara. Why some don't understand these things you pointed out baffles me. We are Nigeria and we have standards. This is not the first CHAN we are participating in. As a football analyst you analyze the game the way it is. If the team is poor you should be able to say it. Next thing now they will point hate fingers at you. I just tire. |

TheSuperNerd: Exclusive – Perugia Beat Spezia To Loan Signing Of Roma’s Nura Abdullahi
https://i0.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/IMG_4114.jpg
Highly rated AS Roma Nigerian right back Nura Abdullahi will join Italian Serie B side Perugia on loan for the rest of the season, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nura who recently extended his contract at Roma is yet to play a first team game for the Serie A side, no thanks to injuries and a surgery he underwent to correct a minor heart defect.
This season he has been part of the matchday squad for 8 Serie A games, but same fitness issues that have slowed his progress at the club has also played a role in him not making his debut.
The 20 year old full back was tipped for a return to Serie B side Spezia, but according to his Nigerian representative a move to Perugia is what Roma prefers for his career growth.
”Roma are keen on him joining Perugia and not Spezia, who were also keen on having him back although on loan. He still well loved at Spezia where he got the breakthrough that earned him a move to Roma “, his intermediary told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Comfortable as a right back or winger, Nura will be expected to play a role in helping 14th placed Perugia push for a promotion play off spot at the end of the season. Presently Perugia are four points away from 8th placed Spezia, who are currently occupying the final promotion play off spot in the Serie B after 22 games.

I still have friends who have not yet reconciled with the SEs. They laugh at me anytime I update my Whatsapp profile to celebrate this crop of Super Eagles. I am Still finding it hard to convince them to have a change of mind... No need to convince them. They are not real followers of the game. They only follow teams that make them happy. Once it is WC again you see them forming interested. A friend of mine is an Arsenal fan like me. He claims he does not watch Nigerian games. And he derives pride in saying so. I saw him recently and asked him how he was coping now that Arsenal are not doing well. At least me I have the Super Eagles to look forward to. He said he now supports Barcelona. That is how they are. They are not even loyal to their clubs. Safarigirl calls them plastic fans. And that is what they are. |

AIG07: Poor football was one of the reasons Nigerians lost interest in the Super Eagles during the mid 2000s. In those years, the Eagles played with little or no passion. Their games was characterised with poor passes, lack of coordination etc.
Many people, even close friends of mine lost interest in watching the national team play despite that they were getting the results then. They did this, not because the team lacked quality but because of the quality of football they were dishing out to people. The none qualification for the 2006 WC dealt a major blow to the popularity and followership of the Super Eagles. Then came the nick name "Super Chickens". I could beat up anybody that called the Super Eagles that name then. It was so annoying. |

junnyjake: It takes patience and humility to watch NPFL games - Icon4s
That's where these guys are selected from, we've all been accustomed to some good football outside the country and sitting to endure 90 minutes of not so great football could be likened to torture.
We watch football to be entertained not to endure mediocrity in the name of patriotism. Like 1 ,2 or 3 years ago, one would want to watch the NPFL just to assess young players like Obinna Nwobodo, Kingsley Sokari, Junior Ajayi, Ifeanyi Mathew, Ibrahim Alhassan, Karo Etebo, Daniel Etor, Chisom Chikatara, Kunle Odunlami, and a couple of others. But such quality young players are not just there any more. Then I could forfeit some good EPL games just to watch how these young lads perform in their teams and of course they were easily the shinning stars in their respective teams. They are all gone and so what is left? I fear for our next U20 and U23 teams. We seem not to have enough quality U19 players presently. This CHAN team na just patience and humility person go take dey follow them. |

tbaba1234: We are not against the team. This CHAN was supposed to be an audition to see which of the home boys can possibly be invited to the main team or at least show us future stars but so far the quality has not been impressive.
The only player with a potential national team future is Faleye if he makes the right career moves.
A certain Shehu Abdullahi played CHAN when he was 19. He has gone ahead and had a decent national team career. That is why many of us were calling for a younger squad that potentially has players that could be Super eagle players. You couldn't have said it any better. Simply put and plain. I believe this should be the last CHAN for some old players in that team. Even without CAF fixing an age limit, the NFF needs to set a goal for participating in CHAN. If it is for talent discovery I see no reason why Papas like Rabiu Ali and Osas Okoro would be playing. Are they still hoping to make the Super Eagles team or a team in Europe? In subsequent CHAN we need to see younger players please. That will add more value to both the league and the national teams. |
