ChrisKels: Victor Moses Calf Injury Resurfaces, Out Of Super Eagles Friendly Against Senegal & Burkina Faso
Super Eagles of Nigeria will be without the services of Chelsea wing back Victor Moses in their upcoming friendly games against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London. Moses only recently returned to training from a calf strain injury picked up in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Manchester United, but was played from the start by coach Antonio Conte in their 2-1 comeback win over West Ham in the Premier League. The half fit Victor Moses was however replaced in the 70th minute by Cesc Fabregas after reportedly complaining of pains in his ankle during the course of the game. Moses will now be expected to spend at least one week on the sidelines, which effectively rules him out of the Super Eagles games on the 23rd and 27th of March.
Sir Icon4s I told you I saw this coming but u played down my fears saying that nothing had been heard from his camp. Chai make una call up Aluko for me biko. Play Aluko behind the striker(possibly KC), play Ndidi and Etebo behind Aluko while iwobi starts from left wing and Simon/Bazee from the right wing. That is not a problem. We are not in short supply of wingers. |

jotey: A total of twelve players of Nigerian descent have been called up to the England squads, after Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate, U21s manager Aidy Boothroyd and U20s coach Paul Simpson announcing their rosters on Thursday afternoon for international fixtures in March. Attacking midfielders Dele Alli and Ross Barkley have been selected for the games against Germany and Lithuania. It appears Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham has been fully promoted to England U21s squad though he remains eligible to feature for the U20s. The prolific striker has been included in the squad list for internationals against Germany (March 24) and Denmark (March 27). Ahead of the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea this summer, manager Simpson will run the rule over Fikayo Tomori (Chelsea), Josh Onomah (Spurs), Ademola Lookman (Everton) and Dominic Solanke (Chelsea). Liverpool talent Ovie Ejaria, who is still recovering from injury, and teammate Sheyi Ojo did not make the U20 squad. Kog45: Pls whom do we blame for d poor quality of d pitch or are u saying coz of bad pitch d home based don't deserve a call up.
If Obinna Nwobodo is still a prospect for Eagles at 20 then something is amiss. There is need to give this guys benefit of doubt may be they have something to offer instead of saying they are not good for Eagles.
My man talents abound in Nigeria league even in d schools but our major problem is that we are blindfolded with foreign based coz i don't see any reason player playing in Bosnia or Cyprus w be making Eagles squad or a player playing in division 2 or 3 in Europe.
Let me tell u why i believe we can find one or two home based that can find their way into Eagles squad.I have a friend known as Emma Olisadebe who later played for Poland and was instrumental to their qualification for 2002 world cup. This guy was discovered by coach Fanny Amu during NUGA game and preparation for world university game.
During world university game camping,a prolific striker in Nigeria league Edith Agoye need to be benched for this guy coz Olisadebe was a pure class. After World University game coach Fanny Amu convinced d guy that u need to take football as a career not just playing it,as at this time d guy doesn't have a club but playing normal campus football.
Fanny Amu took him to Jasper United where he spent just 4 months then straight to Polish league where he was scoring week in week out.He switched allegiance to Poland coz he was overlooked during Sydney 2000.This guy single handedly took Poland to world cup.A Nigeria University student that left school 1999 and find his way into Poland national team in late year 2000.
Now tell me are u saying we cannot find such player again in Nigeria despite our bad pitch.I believe player like Kanu,Okocha,Amokachie,Finidi,Yekinni,Keshi,Yakubu,Mikel and of recent Mba,Oboboana of Afcon 2013 fame came out of d same league. I only highlighted the poor quality of pitches to show my tenacity to watch d games despite it nt being TV friendly. Nobody is disputing the fact that the local league has produced numerous great players in the past. If u have known me well enough u'll know i am nt d type that will rubbish the local league. My argument spans from the look of things now, presently in 2017 and not in the 90s, 2002 or 2013. Look at the present set up of the Super Eagles do you think any player(s) from d league can offer some thing superior? That is why i first asked if u follow the league. And went ahead to ask u to name credible home based players and asked which foreign players to drop. U have answered that u dnt watch the NPFL. So it means u dnt know anything abt d current state of the players in the league. |

To cap him now is reasonable and normal thing a sensible FA will do but NFF go wait until dem become supper star. Abeg how dem dey cap players? Na to go visit him come put cap for him head Abi? As easy as that. Cap this player cap that player all at the same time. How many matches does a national team play in a year? The coaches can only invite a handful at a time or are you telling me the national team should be rotated amongst new/uncapped players? Mind u also that friendlies are nt jst meant for capping of players they are more importantly for team building. Besides most of those ur favorite players have nationality issues to sort out. So na to just Sidon dey wait for dem na. |

otezu5: Rohr Hands Mikel Obi Number 10 Role To Iwobi Ahead Friendly Games With Senegal & Burkina Faso
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-2-1024x570.jpg
John Obi Mikel absence from Nigeria’s upcoming friendly games against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London has paved way for Alex Iwobi to take his spot in the team.
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr usually deploys Iwobi as a left winger, but will play him just behind the main striker in the upcoming friendly games in London.
Rohr will most likely rotate his players for the second game against Burkina Faso, but he has already lined up the players he intends to use in the March 23rd friendly game against Senegal.
Iwobi will reportedly play as part of a midfield three alongside the duo of Eddy Onazi and Leicester City highly rated defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
Oghenekaro Etebo who has been widely tipped to play behind the striker will now play from the left, while Victor Moses will play from the right according to leaks gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com.

I don't have d opportunity of watching NPFL of recent coz am not in d country but i know that talents are abound in d league
I remember it was on this thread u guys are mentioning player like obinna Nwobodo or are u saying NPFL is a dead league that cannot produce a player for Eagles. Look, I follow the NPFL to a large extent. In most cases i always endure the poor quality of the pitch and pictures. I mostly do nt watch the games live bc of the EPL games bt i watch them later during my leisure times. I even watched the replay of Enyimba vs MFM game last night enduring the look of that patchy UJ Essuene stadium pitch. So i know what i am talking about. Any player that must wear the Super Eagles jersey must deserve it. Taking abt Obinna Nwobodo we never said he was good for d Super Eagles but a good prospect. |

We haven't pass d era of not considering some home based players coz we have a league which i believe no matter what one or two player should find their way into d team on merit but not considering this players at all is out of it.
Rohr is getting it right should not stop us from evaluate his team selection.Nobody is forcing any home based player on him but he need to look inward for quality players. Do u follow the NPFL.? Suggest home based players Rohr should have invited and name d foreign based he should drop in their places. O ya. |

otezu5: Assist Master Sarenren-Bazee Will Help Iheanacho & Co Score More Goals For Nigeria
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/image-3.jpg
The Super Eagles of Nigeria latest invitee Joel Noah Sarenren Bazee has the talent to make the attack line of the Nigerian team better than it is right now.
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has not been too impressed with the firing line of his team , a situation that has seen him try various combinations in attack in the three games he has handled Nigeria.
Rohr convinced Sarenren Bazee to commit his future to Nigeria ahead of Germany because he believe that the 20 year old will help address some of the pressing issues of the Super Eagles in attack.
Bazee’s main attributes is speed but he is also blessed with the ability to thread passes to the point man of his team, as illustrated in his performance so far for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga 2.
He has six assists from just 12 games this season, making him third in the list of players with highest number of assist in the league this season. The likes of Manchester City Kelechi Iheanacho and other Super Eagles forwards will no doubt benefit from his tailor-like passes in their quest to score more goals for Nigeria.

komekn: To add to what Kog45 is saying.
For example, where Dele is concerned he had a very tough start his alcoholic mother incapicated resulting in him being taken into care.
His Father had remarried and swaned off to USA at the time he needed him most. Adopted by white family that showed him love encouraged and nurtured him.
Is that what you call having it easy because you were born in England. He wil not tell you the racial taunts and discrimination he had to go through to make it.
Or because Ademola was born in Peckham that gave him an advantage, no way. He was playing Sunday football three years ago.
Or you think Seyi Ojo became successful because he too was brought up in England. Or Ibe who was released by Charlton at 12 and ended up in lowly Wycombe Wanderers before Liverpool bought him for £1 millions 3 years later. All because they were born in the UK.
I could give another hundred examples to prove that being born in the UK has Absolutely nothing to do with it. Leave Dele out. He never considered Nigeria as an option and he now plays for the 3 Lions. Tell me Lookman, Seyi Ojo and Jodon Ibe are better than Ihenacho, Success and Simon. |

Joebie: Nawa! this home based matter!!
----------------------------------------------------- After Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr announced his 25-man squad to prosecute match friendlies involving Senegal and Burkina Faso, there have been grumblings and outcries amongst some ex-Super Eagles players as well as some quarters of the NFF regarding Rohr’s decision to completely ignore domestic league players in his list, save for a few. The said decision has made various football pundits to be of the opinion that the coach may have been compromised in his selection decisions. All of a sudden, news about Rohr’s contractual extension conditions with the NFF made it to some dailies signalling that a faction of the glass house may already be looking forward to the German tactician’s failure. Working in a football environment full of diverse sentiments may not be a familiar terrain of the German, but I suppose he must have done his homework as to how challenging the top job in Nigeria can be. Many managers have failed to succeed here in the past especially because they could not play the required politics in Nigerian football management, or cope with persistent interference from their employers. Gernot Rohr, on his part, instantly became the bride of Nigerian football, restoring the hope of a footballing nation that have failed in recent times to qualify for literally all recent international competitions – age grade or not. He gained this recognition after he shot Nigeria to the top of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, relegating African powerhouses Cameroon and Algeria to second and third places respectively. Even though the Nigeria senior team did not have the chance to further gel when they missed out of the AFCON in Gabon, the March friendlies put together by the NFF presented Rohr with a chance to get the boys back together after a long break, and possibly test new players for future reinforcement.
A look at Rohr’s 25-man squad selection reveal a dominance of players who were part of the World Cup qualifiers. Even the few unfamiliar names, have long been rumored to be considered for the friendlies. With this in view, there have been lots of bickering as to why Rohr ignored promising talents in the NPFL. In my opinion, I believe it would be prudent to leave him alone so he can do the work for which he’s being paid. There is no doubt that he has got it right so far without our domestic players, so why the distraction? Several debates about this issue have been made in various forums, even in the popular Nigerian forum, Nairaland. Hence, I will state five reasons why Rohr is on the right track, and therefore should not be distracted in our latest bid to cheer up Nigeria at the world stage:
http://spotkik.com/2017/03/16/march-friendlies-players-selection-why-rohr-must-not-be-distracted/ I am whole heartedly with Rohr's team selection. The best and most promising talents and professional players are outside this country. Celestine Babayaro that was making comment the other day, how many home-based players played along with him during his hey days in the late 90s? We have gone past that time where Keshi would be reserving 5-7 slots for home-based players! Players should be invited based on merit. If our best 25 players are based in Europe so be it. The home based eagles had a chance to impress at CHAN last year but they showed they lacked substance. Another CHAN qualifiers will commence soon. Let Rohr use that to assess the players. No room for mediocrity. We need the best devoid of allotments and allocations. |

komekn: Talent will only get you so far indeed it is not the defining factor.
Dedication, Discipline, Diligence, Perseverance, Positive-Attitude, Hard-Work, Focus, will take you very far not just basic talent add to that the Grace of God and you are a winner.
Being in Nigeria being in England doesn't matter we all have to battle with different demons. Admittedly the demons in Nigeria are blatant, overt and obvious such as ; favouritism, tribalism, bribery, age-cheating, nepotism, etc, etc.
Black boys have to battle with covert clandestine and subtle educated demons of Racism, favoritism, abuse, bribery. Agent - coach arrangements, yes even in England bribery.
So what are you talking about its not always green on the other side of the fence.
And by your own unit of measurement your tacitly saying that they the English boys are better because they are in England. Talent without dedication and discipline is simply. USELESS.
There are more talented boys who are African that didnt make it than those who did. There are many more players better than Ademola that you may never hear of.
England is not France where black players rule. The bolded is not what I said. I said most of them are not better despite that they are in England. Had it been that most of those Nigerian youngsters are springing up from the French, Spanish or German academies, wow! I would be singing a different song. The English youths system is overrated, the earlier you realize that the better. |

TheGoodJoe:
I think Eguavoen deserves a chance. However, I am not sure of his philosophy of the game. I am more a fan of the possessive, expansive, pressing and demanding game. I do not know if Eguavoen tick these boxes.
I think after his work with the Mikel U17 team, he deserves another chance. Well, that is from the coaching angle. Recall Eguavoen coached the Super Eagles to a bronze medal in Egypt 2006 AFCON - losing 1-0 to a Didier Drogba led CIV in that semi. I personally do not have issues with Eguavoen as d coach. Seems Manu will remain as the next U17 coach. We need to hive him(manu) that chance to redeem his image. Now, my major concern is in players selection. It was mentioned as the NPFL U17 all stars team but i hope the 2016/17 Eaglets would be called for selection also. I want an all inclusive team. We need the best crop. |
