tbaba1234: I have watched matches not youtube videos..
Did you not watch matches of Ezekiel, Nwofor and Ujah? How have they ended up?
My take is the young man is doing great at the moment. But let him continue doing great by also moving to a more competitive league and then we re-assess him.
Onyekuru is young and he will surely get his turn of call up in our subsequent games if he continues doing well.
Icon79: Yeah, Etebo was massive against Japan. But in the other games, Azubuike was the dude running things in the middle.
The man in the middle, that's what we nicknamed him during that tourney. In fact, based on his performance during the tournament, I rated him our best DM since Sunday Oliseh. Let's hope he could reproduce that in the Super Eagles when he's given a chance.
O pari
Azubuike did excellently well at Rio. But, truth be told Onazi and Ndidi are ahead of him. What if Ndidi and Onazi were at Rio dnt u think they would probably had done better than Azubuike did?
Joebie: Onyekuru should be in the SE. All sentiments aside. Nobody is saying he must start. And who should we drop? Let the training determine.. I believe he can battle both Musa and Simon.
tbaba1234: Watch Onyekuru play and your opinion will change. Hopefully, he keeps up his form. The jury is still out on Ebuehi. Good player though.
Thankfully, Bazee was not born in 9ja otherwise his age would be debated. I have watched him play, very European kind of winger, lots of pace but does not keep possession that well. Not sure, he is ready for the Eagles.
Did you see the youtube videos of Uche Nwofor, Imoh Ezekiel, and Anthony Ujah?
forgiveness: Bros, the Ahmed Musa I followed from the NFL to the Eredivisie, Russian League, U20 and the world cup is different from the one I am seeing in the Premier League
E bi like say, he lost confidence.
So, he needs to prove himself for us to know he has not expired.
Even in his current state/form. He still has a lot to offer. Na make we discard him and invite Onyekuru u want abi? Make Onyekuru go play for a team like Leicester first make we see as e go be for am.
Bros, we can't just sweep that matter under carpet, na.
Siasia claimed Adi and Samuel didn't perform in training. You and I know it is big fat lie.
Siasia wanted to promote em boys. Chikena!
There were reports that Adi, Samuel and Chikatara limped out of the training ground. That was the report we got. We did not get any report that it was a big fat lie.
None of the strikers called for that Egypt clash was among the "Siasia boys". Ighalo and Iheanacho that made the final match day squads were they Siasia's boys?
forgiveness: Na wa ooooooo. Na so we snub Imoh Ezekiel so teeeeey the boy boy kuku ma follow money.
Now, the same thing is about to play out.
When will we start rewarding hard works?
Onyekuru, Aluko and Raheem deserves to be called with immediate effect.
Does the Imoh Ezekiel u saw at Rio look like a player that can command a place in the current Super Eagles forwards line? Imoh Ezekiel initially snubbed Nigeria by refusing to play with the 2011 Flying Eagles.
Nobody is saying Onyekuru is not good but he is a surplus requirement to the position he would play for the Super Eagles for now. The wings are where we have the most abundance of quality players. For Musa and Simon not to be in first 11, that tells the story. Aluko is not even invited. Rohr may have picked Success ahead of Aluko and Onyekuru. Success cannot even be a starter yet.
Onyekuru is still young. His time will come IF he continues to improve.
forgiveness: Under whose regime? Rohr or the fraudulent Nigerian coaches(as confirmed by Amokachi)?
Forget about all these fraud allegations and lets discuss objectively. I whole heartedly stand by TheGoodjoe on this.
But I still feel Osimhen needs to get his game started in his club for us fans and analysts to fully assess his readiness. Rohr may have been pleased with his performance in training the last time out which could be y he is giving him another look-in opportunity. We were not there at the training grounds with them, So what do I know?
goldfish80: I agree these players mentioned are at the top of their game, however Azubuike is talented enough to mix up with the big boys. He possess a skill set these other guys do not.
Azubuike, is a young talented player. He is still 19. IMO he is doing great 'for his age'. However, I would not consider him ready for the Super Eagles yet. Let him keep playing and hopefully move to a more competitive league or division and then we re-evaluate his chances.
goldfish80: Top post. You just hit the nail at the head.
It's time people start looking beyond the name of the club a player represents and look at the unique abilities the said player will bring to the table. Christian Bassogog was playing in the USL (a level below MLS) just 2 years ago. He went to the nations cup on the books of Aalborg in Denmark yet he came out with top marks after the tournament. Winning the best player ahead of more fancied players in bigger leagues. Kante a few years back was playing for the second team of Boulougne. This didn't stop his shine.
I think a guy like Azubuike okechukwu is talented enough to command a place in this Super Eagles team since Mikel is out of the picture. Non of the midfielders Rohr called up can hold the ball and distribute like Azubuike but he was neglected because he doesn't play in the Premiership. I watched in shock how our midfield crumbled at the Olympics without Azubuike, even with the presence of Mikel.
Chikeluba Ofoedu is another guy I rate very high. In the past 10years I don't think I have seen a more talented player than this guy. But somehow he is earning his coin playing in Turkey.
Am not holding brief for anyone playing in a an "obscure" league but Sometimes, we should give talent a chance.
Chikeluba Ofoedu. Great talent. I was disappointed he was not invited to the 2011 Flying Eagles camp that had Ahmed Musa, Abdul Ajagun, Olanrewaju Kayode, Uche Nwofor, and co.
But Chikeluba's career has not progressed as expected. He, IMO is not a Super Eagles material for now.
OMANBALA1: Guys, thanks so much for keeping this prestigious thread alive with your insightful analysis. I tried for so long to retrieve my old account(odenigboaroli) all to no avail ,so,I decided to create a new one. Once again ,I am happy to be back and join the discussions.
forgiveness: Let us be truthful to ourselves. Why on earth will a coach leave out one of the best performing players churning in MOTM right left center for players who are anonymous even in an obscure league or academy?
Why Osimhen and not Onyekuru?
Why Isaac and not Aluko?
Why Aweriem and not Otigba?
Why Musa and not Brain?
Why invite inactive Ikechuckwu and not Nwokolor?
Nonsense Nigerian coaches are influencing Rohr's decisions.
Osimhen for Onyekuru bc we are more in need of strikers than wingers, Awaziem for Otigba bc Otigba has largely been inactive this season. Besides, he is also grooming youngsters to ensure continuity. Osimhen and Awaziem may not make the Matchday squad Like I said earlier he probably was torn in-between inviting Ebuehi and Idowu. He does nt want to field two debutants in the defense in one game. He have picked Ebuehi in this game, Brian could be called in a next game.
Ikechukwu inactive how? A palyer I saw in goal in one of last weekend's NPFL games.
And to ur last statement. Yes, Rohr is working with a team of coaches but he is in control. I like his choice of players for these two friendlies.
tbaba1234: Shehu and Awaziem are playing regularly, though in less fancied leagues.
I believe the invitation of Osimhen, Musa, Awaziem and Sarenren is geared towards 2018 than their immediate use to the team. I think the coach has a future vision. If you read his interview with fifa.com, he expressed a willingness to work with the youth.
The coach has always invited Shehu Abdullah, his versatility is an asset to any coach. He has seen him up close several times and continues to invite him so there's some quality there.
As regards the home based players, that is what Salisu and Imamah are there for, they are supposed to suggest the best league players for Rohr. The fact that they are still calling Ezenwa is problematic because he is no longer first choice at his club. Are these local coaches doing their jobs?
Apart from the absence of Onyekuru and Brian Idowu, it is a decent list. I am not satisfied with the Goalkeeper list too.
You have a valid point there. Rohr is not just building a team to achieve results today he is also building a team that will continue to stay on top.
As for Onyekuru, maybe Rohr feels we have enough wings options for now. I mean, with the likes of Iwobi, Moses, Musa, Success and Simon. For now I dnt believe Onyekuru can offer more than what the available wingers can. Also Onyekuru is pretty young and we are not at risk of losing him to any other country. He would most likely get his own call up in subsequent games this year.
As for Idowu, I also feel he is trying not to invite too many new players that he would not field. He probably had to chose between inviting Ebuehi and Idowu. Ebuehi may slip from our hands if we dnt move now but as for Idowu we already have him in our bag. He will likely get a call-up in our subsequent games.
TheGoodJoe: You are talking Neymar but I am talking of the whole Brazilian team. You can not compare the current Brazilian team to the past Brazilian teams. Even the Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaka, Ronaldo De Lima, Adriano, Ze Roberto team were super brilliant.
Compare the French team with Zidane, Dugarry, Deschamps, Djorkaeff, Lizarazu, Thuram, Vieira, Thierry Henry, Trezeguet etc to the current team. There is no comparison. France Could leave out Cantona, Ginola, Karembu and Lama.
Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Sol Campbell, Shearer, Owen, McManaman, etc to the English team today.
It is not just Nigeria but there is a bright light shining on our football and very soon, these our young players will become heavy weight names.
This comparison is same for most big countries. They have had better teams. Look also at Holland, Italy, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, Czech Rep, Bulgaria. With the exception of Germany, though I still feel their 80s to 90 squad was stronger than the current. Even come to Africa only CIV and Algeria can boast of a better team than most of their predecessors.
Does it mean that footballing is on a downward trend?
tbaba1234: Hopefully, we get to see some of the young players in the friendlies. I think, his team will evolve slowly, slow changes as opposed to drastic changes if necessary. He has shown the willingness to drop regulars that are not performing like Ighalo/ Ideye (dropped against Algeria).
The invitation of Sarenren-Bazee is a coup in my opinion. He is a highly rated youngster in Germany and is on the radar of some top Bundesliga clubs. He is not the finished article and might not be ready to be a super eagles regular but he has great potential.
A couple of them are not likely to make the match day squad.
Rohr may just have invited them to camp, including Ebuehi, to asses their level of readiness for senior team action. Recall this is not the first time Awaziem and Osimhen would be called to camp. Ebuehi may get action majorly to secure his commitment.
Kog45: I don't know why we always run away from reality.Iheanacho is no 9 playing for man city and under d tutelage of Guardiola, his goal ratio is top notch both for city and eagles as top striker.Pls what else.
I just tire.
Look at Rohr's latest list, if Iheanacho is played as an AM who then plays CF?
tbaba1234: Man City are just capitalizing on his great finishing ability but they should be developing other parts of his game too. Mikel was converted to a DM and as a result did not develop his attacking ability as much. Kelechi has an eye for a great pass but he is not given enough room to show it.
Pep wants him to be winning duels with all these big defenders.
Nigeria should also capitalize on his great finishing ability. We have options aplenty at the AM and wings departments. With Ideye and Ighalo past their prime and are already collecting gratuities from China which other striking options do we have? Infact from Rohr's latest list Iheanacho is favorite to start as the number 9.
Gernot Rohr has continued to show the kind of coach he is with the list he rolled-out yesterday.
With all the suggested names flying here and there, the only new man on his list is Noah Sarenren-Bazee. He has given Ebuehi, Success, Awaziem and Osimhen another opportunity.
I feel he knows his team already and is jst trying to tighten one or two positions. If a player is not better than the one(s) we have already ,no need to waste that slot in friendlies like these that are hard to come by. Cohesion matters a lot in a team. The more the REGULARS continue to play together the more the team achieves cohesion and the better for the team. This is what we have lacked in the last 10 or so years.
Originally not a number 9 but now being re-modeled into a number 9.
Players at this age are more easily re-modeled than the older ones.
Was Isaac Success not a number 9? What is he now?
Was Ahmed Musa not a number 9? What is he now?
Was Wilfred Ndidi not a CB? What is he now?
Didn't Mikel start as an AM what was he later re-modeled into?
Brown Ideye started off as a winger. What is he today?
I personally want Iheanacho re-modeled into a number 9. We have a lot of options in the AM and wings positions. I also want Ahmed Musa tried in striking positions.
tbaba1234: When i say riskier passes, i do mean just forward passes, I mean difficult passes. It is actually a flaw in Ndidi. He is not a Pirlo, at least not yet.
I think, both players can complement each other but in a direct comparison, at the moment, i rate Ndidi higher.
This I think also. Onazi as the CM while Ndidi as the DM.
Icon79: Actually, on current form, Onyekuru is much better. But Lookman is playing in the EPL plus he's a Junior English international. That's what makes the difference.
O pari
Another correct post.
One of the reasons Gabriel Jesus was rated higher than Iheanacho even before Jesus kicked a ball in the EPL: Jesus is a Brazilian while Iheanacho is a Nigerian.
Chrismario: Bro u know it's all about future potential,,,, Larger percentage of Nigeria and African youngsters in past 10 yearz had not lived up to expectations so Foreign clubs are trading wit care,,,,
This is exactly the point that peeps here have refused to accept.
whizola: I see u are one of those Nigeria dat underate any thing local breed because of their obsession of foreign lads. Do u mean lookman has more potential than henry?
I was only telling you what the Europeans feel.
Was I the one who placed the price tags on Lookman and Onyekuru?
