TheGoodJoe:
If we have the best players selected for the National team, finding better talents take time. That is what happened in the case of Spain.
Finding better players than Xavi and Iniesta is a monumental task. However, when their form dipped, Spain refused to fill in the likes of Koke and Thiago Alcantara. Things went bad for them to the point of collecting 5 goals in a game.
So I do not want us having the idea of a STEADY TEAM but the BEST PLAYERS.
Okocha and Kanu were not steady players but the best players for their role. The best crop of players does not necessarily make the best Team. You see, I like the approach Rohr has adopted in building our team thus far: Start with the known before chasing the unknown. We need to have a team structure and then start building from their That idea of calling 40 home based players to camp first and then invite only 14 or 15 foreign based players just to leave 3-4 spaces for home based players is trash to me. Team selection should be merit based. Rohr already knows the caliber of players he needs to prosecute our qualifiers. He invited the players and tested the team against Tanzania. He must have noticed some lapses and weak links in the chain which he hopes to correct ahead of the next game against Zambia. 3 players that were not part of the Tanzania clash that I expect back in the team are: Kenneth Omeruo, Alex Iwobi and Oghenekaro Etebo. I also feel either of Success or Adi or both could be called up too. And I can tell you with the pool of players we have all just needs is to get our tactics right especially in the delivery of goals. One on one I dnt see Adi as being better than Ighalo, Iheanacho or Success. If for squad of 18 players I need 3 strikers why should I invite a 4th?Adi has been performing in his MLS club no doubt but we are all entitled to our opinions when it comes to team selection and I rate the 3 earlier strikers ahead of him. |

TheGoodJoe:
I am with BascoVanVeli on this. I am always against a steady team. Look at Manchester City. Sterling said he has to keep performing well because of Sane. That does not mean Manchester City is not searching for a player that can do better than both Sane and Sterling.
We have Aguero and Iheanacho. Yet we signed Gabriel Jesus who is another exciting prospect.
A team should be the collection of the best players that can represent the country and are ready to represent the country. Both local and foreign born.
When a player shows a sign, (this is the important part) that he can do better than the present player in the National team, or performs better than those in the National team, then we must invite that person.
If not, we are not fielding our strongest squad. We are all saying the same thing my brother. No body is saying we should not invite new players who are performing at club levels to the national team. The only things I would not agree with you here are: -You being against a steady Team. The lack of having a steady Team for the last 10years or more is responsible for where we are today. A good national Team should have something close to a starting 11. at least 9 out of 11 regular starters. Look at the '94 Team for instance, a 6 years old boy then could read out the starting 11 of the Super Eagles. Look at the German and Spanish Teams for instance most of the players have been featuring since before the 2010 WC.Some inclusions have been made in recent times bt that has been gradual. - You keep comparing national team with club football. Clubs can afford to buy players n put in any department they feel they want to beef up but you can't do that with the national team. If in the national team you don't have a credible RB for instance the best you may do is to convert a DMF or one of the CBs to a RB. You cannot buy a RB just to increase competition. Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Nolito nclusions. Yes 3 of them and not a complete over-haul of the Mancity squad which is what I am also talking about. 2-3 inclusions per game is still enough to instill competition especially in positions where we need that competition. |

BascoVanVeli: I don't think nothin I've said comes close to a continuous rotation. Look at Adi's body of work and decide if he merits a call. This team also belongs to people like him as they are Nigerians. When a player deserves a call they should get it no excuses, look at Germany they make room always for players doing well it adds strength to their squad. Spain also does the same thing. We can't have players losing hope in their country it is wrong. I never said Adi should not be invited. U'll recalled I am of the opinion that 2-3 new inclusions can always be made depending on which department(s) the coach feels needed additions. If the coach feels he needs Adi to boost the attack fine. Look at the Spain and Germany teams u mentioned, have you not seen consistency in their line-ups over the years? modified: It is sad but true. It has always been the case. Not every good player will ever get to play for the national team. Except you want to be unveiling a new crop of Super Eagles Team every year . Some would be capped once or twice and that's all. It is sad but it happens for various reasons. |

I have noticed something in football over the years; they are times when the bigger guys fail to deliver, but someone with much more hunger can come in to deliver.
We have experienced this scenario over and over.
I must agree with you that we do not have all the time to continue doing experiment. We can however, pick one player once in a while during friendlies and see how good he is, but if he is not leave him out. The bolded is my point. |

Okay, Iheanacho was asked in an interview that how does it feel to be the best U21 footballer in the world, he now replied " I don't know, you'll have to ask Rashford"
Man U fans were ejacu-lating ontop that one, my boy dey use sense for them....play off your impact, take attention away from yourself and do big things in a low key way. I don't know if they expected him to say "it feels great".. So that haters will tag my brother "Balotelli part 2"
Let the attention stay on Rashford, let it be a source of distraction to that one, shey Martial time don finish, now na Rashford...meanwhile Kelechi go still dey collect salary, dey play ball
Cc thegoodjoe, icon4s, joseph1013, lakesidepapa Na so. I know a lot of people who pledge more allegiance to their club heroes than our national heroes. I have heard comments like : "I no be Nigeria I be Manu". I was watching Nigeria vs France at the 2011 WYC (Flying Eagles). France was leading 1-0 for most of the match but Nigeria got a late equalizer. This game was played at mid-night. My scream of goal!! woke up wifey's younger brother who is a Chelsea fan but does not follow Nigerian national team football (typical of most Chelsea fans) He joined me to watch the extra time. France scored in the first half of extra time to make it 2-1 and guess what? It was Gael Kakuta, a Chelsea boy, that scored. This guy started jubilating "hey! Chelsea product! No try us o!" I now looked at him and asked say "who are you supporting France or Nigeria." mtchew (shakes head) |

BascoVanVeli: I know all that but at the same time we have to keep the machine moving. We can't stop blooding in new players just because we have qualifiers at hand we have to do both. We need to build a pool of players with at least 3 per position in case of injuries or drop of form. Also tactically I have always felt that a big striker is always needed on the bench, sometimes u just have to play long balls. Sure! We need to have a large pool to chose from and that we have already. All the players discovered by Keshi and were not used by Oliseh are there for us. All players featured by Oliseh and were not used by Siasia are there for us, all players featured by Siasia in the Egypt double header are there for us and also players that featured for us at the Olympics are there for us. What of those that featured with the 2015 Flying Eagles? What of those that featured at the last CHAN? We fit form four national teams with them all. I am sure you can name more than 3 players for almost each position in the Super Eagles currently. What I am against is a continuous rotation of squad. We need to build a TEAM. As I said before, out of 18 players to make the final match day squad the coach can give room for 2 or 3 new inclusions (if they merit it). Consistency is what we have been lacking for the past 10 years now and that has really given us serious heart aches. |

BascoVanVeli: I don't see any issues with making a player like Adi one of the new 2 or 3 players. He is a big striker who brings goals. He won the MLS last year and this year he has 12 goals. Like i said we don't have to give him a wcq match but a friendly is no less than he deserves. Yeah, I also agree. I believe as we journey through the qualifiers the coach would know which department(s) of the team needs re-enforcement. This our team I believe has what it takes to blow the rest of Africa away. You saw Alex Iwobi play last night? You have such a player alongside Kelechi Iheanacho, Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa, Mikel Obi, Leon Balogun, Elderson Echiejile, Ogenyi Onazi, Wilfred Ndidi, among others and we are afraid to face African oppositions? I can't wait for the qualifiers to kick-off. |

BascoVanVeli: I doubt that, but Adi must be given a chance, maybe not at wcq but at least 60 mins of a friendly. He brings size and goals. Yeah, I agree. And we also need to focus on the bunch we have now. I believe with the crop we have already, with adequate motivation, good planning and excellent tactics we should be at Russia. I like Rohr's approach so far. Hit the ground running. No need for too many experiment. We should have a regular crop of 14-15 players and 2 -3 new invitees with each game. We don't have the luxury of trying all Nigerian players home and abroad. Consistency is what we need now. Even the friendlies should be geared towards attaining coherency (team play). We have experimented for too long. Now we have a rich blend of experienced and young talented players that can see us through the qualifiers. |

Orkpekyandega: You are very much right Sir, but if the place where one plays is the only criteria for selecting players for national teams and not what they can do then, Sunday Mba and Aaron Samuel should not have won the Green White Green.
They are players who do not play in the best leagues in the World, but that in it self does not take away their talent. U sincerely believe Adi, Kayode and Fatai can offer more than what Iheanacho, Ighalo,Moses, Musa and d likes are offering? |

TheGoodJoe:
Amunike inviting hundreds of players to camp is beyond stories when the camp was full of players with coaches watching and screening. It was a process, publicly announced.
You chose to ignore the fact that this set was the most abandoned football teams of Nigeria. Leave inviting players. These boys were close to slaves. Manu Garba's U17 boys used to walk long distances to villages to charge their phones.
Amunike boys were not poor as you make them. They beat the Olympics team repeatedly. That is enough to tell you they were good players.
Unfortunately, the neglect got to them.
I remember warning about Manu boys repeatedly here. They slept in darkness a lot. Yet no cries.
Amunike's boys were the same boys beating Azubuike and Etebo. How many U20 boys will beat the Olympics team.
Westerhof invited over a hundred footballers to camp after Tunisia '94. Will you say he was bias when most of the players who made it to USA' 94 were part of the Tunisia '94 squad. If Amunike wanted to just play his boys, he would not organize the camp in the first place.
This was a case of neglect, not talent. Etebo and Azubuike were busy with their clubs as it was not end of season when those friendlies with Flying Eagles were played. As for the Amuneke's Flying Eagles, I started asking questions when they managed narrow wins against Burundi in both legs. Even in the first leg of the Sudan game, they came from a goal down and scored 2 late goald to get the win.An U19/20 team where all the players were 16-17 years olds. All academy players. The oldest amongst them being Kelechi Nwakali just turned 18 a few weeks ago. Osimhen will have to wait till December before he turns 18. That team was grossly lacking in experience for an U20 side! So because they boycotted training for 3 days that is why Sudan should be putting 4goals past them? And Osimhen should be scoring an own goal? They were leading 3-2 at a point in that game which is still the narrow margin I have been complaining about. U dnt at this stage of the journey be struggling to defeat teams like Burundi and Sudan and you expect to win the WYC. Invited 600 players and only one (nicknamed Paul Scholes) could break into the starting 11? I say watch out in the next couple of months as some quality 18,19, 20 years old players would be making waves in the NPFL. And please don't make comparison with the Super Eagles of '94. BTW where did you get that info that Westerhorf invited hundreds of players for camping before the '94 world cup? I can vividly tell you that what happened was that some people in some quarters were clamouring for the inclusion of certain players in the national team. They started calling the team a mafia of players from a certain Region of the country. Just like how some labelled Keshi's 2013 team an Igbo team. I remember vividly in one of Westerhorf's interview where he said "people keep telling me there is this player that deserves to be in the Team. But I would ask them is he better than Finidi, is he better than Amuneke? Is he batter than Amokachi, Yekini or Okocha? And the person says no. So why does he deserve to be in the Team?". Westerhoff had to invite some players to join the ALREADY ESTABLISHED Super Eagles squad. Those new invitees were not even up to 50 not to talk of being "hundreds". The NFF should not promote any Former U17 coach with the Team any more. It has never worked for us. They would always want to profit from fielding "their boys" at the detriment of 170million Nigerians. Amuneke na my guy but that would not stop me from treating his fukk-up. I learnt he is back to training school. Good for him and Nigerian football. Sure he has learnt from his last failure. |

Manu Garba invited Pyagbara and Sokari to camp. Sokari was close to the National team then. Pyagbara had worked with Keshi for CHAN. Obinna Nwobodo was not part of the U17 team. Same with Ndidi.
So there was development. Which contributed to y his U20 team did better than Amuneke's. U mentioned Amuneke invited 600 players yet 10 of his starting 11 were from d previous U17. That does not add up. It is either the story of inviting 600 players is false or he did not give the 600 players fair trials. Watch and see in next couple of months how quality teens or 19/20 years olds who were not part of Amuneke's Flying Eagles would emerge from our local league. Sebi I thought the NFF once mentioned Zaharadeen Bello as the likely captain of the 2017 Flying Eagles. I dnt think Amuneke even invited him. He is not an Amuneke's boy but a Manu Garba's boy. |

TheGoodJoe: You brought up that Etebo and Azubuike were within the age limit. There is no way Manu Garba did not know about them. If he wanted them, he would have invited them. Whether they screened or not, Manu Garba preferred his midfield choices. They camped and stayed in the same hotel in Abuja.
Without the additions of Mikel and co., it was a weaker team. Without the additions, Denmark might still beat them. That part where said "Manu preferred his midfield choices" underlines my point. He did not completely throw the camp open. He already had his choice of players. Azubuike and Etebo would have brought more to that team. I had always maintained also that Junior Ajayi is a better striker than Taiwo Awoniyi. Ajayi was already the main striker for 3SC then while Taiwo Awoniyi was still an academy player. Our U20 coaches should try to give every player that falls with the U20 bracket a chance. And not just sticking to their previous U17 boys. |

Brazil was individual errors. As for those dropped, especially Azubuike and Etebo, no guarantee they would do better after Denmark pushed Six passed them.
The New Zealand boys were a better team than the Siasia Olympics team before the additions.
Also, Spain in France '98 had a super team with Raul, Enrique, Sergi, Zubizaretta, Campo, Hierro etc but they crashed out in the first round. Doing bad in a competition does not mean a bad squad. It is up to the FA to keep building and training.
A mistake we made in the past. Something we should stop. Amunike and Manu Garba crashing out does not mean a bad team. We must find how to continue. Individual errors that you lost 4-2 from leading 2-1? Were Etebo and Azubuike ever invited for 2015 U20 screening? U are still hinging on the 6-1 thrashing by Denmark in a friendly when we beat them 2-0 in a proper tourney? |

I will play Ndidi ahead of Azubuike. As for Etebo and Chidebere Nwakali, I will take Etebo ahead, even though it is a tough choice for me. This is due to Chidi's multiple man of the match performances for his club.
I will take Etebo because of his goals history. Ndidi was not part of the 2013 U17 winning squad. I dnt have issues with Ndidi being in that 2015 U20 team. He was even played as a CB. |

Orkpekyandega: I think we need those players, especially to change the game and give us something different when we are in difficult times.
There are times when you need an Aaron Samuel or a Sunday Mba to win games for you even when Emenike, Ahmed Musa and co are present on the field.
Fanen Adi for instance is tall and may bring aeriel threat.
Kehinde Fatai and Kayode deserve a look in too. These guys may not be marked out easily as defenders do to the popular guys. They can take the defenders unaware.
Imo Ezekiel has lost the form that made him a goal machine in the Belgium leagues some years ago, he should go rediscover that form first before dreaming of Super Eagles shirt. If those players were that good how come with all the years they have been playing professional football they have remained in less competitive leagues? IMHO they cannot make that extra sparkle u are talking about. Not every player would get to play for the Super Eagles. Gone are the days when we will b trying one Anthony Ujah, Joseph Akpala or Peter Utaka all bc they are banging in goals in some less competitive leagues. Isaac Success who has played in the Seria A, La Liga and now the EPL to me is more fanciful than Kayode hu has only played in Ivory Coast, Israel and Austria. Clubs aside Success is a more talented player and is currently on a rising curve. Success in my opinion deserves a call up ahead of Kayode and Adi. As for Kehinde Fatai. Mayb most u guys jst started knowing him. He was one of the 3 strikers we took to the 2009 U20. The other 2 were Odion Ighalo and Danny Uchechi. Fatai flopped most amongst the 3. Only Ighalo managed to put up an average performance. I am not completely rulling out Fatai. He has obviously improved in the Eastern European leagues where he has played almost all thorough his European career but I don't think he has enough for me to say "he is the man we have been waiting for". |

I feel the U17 is what they are a team. A framework for the next set. If we are working with the former U17 coach, it is a continuation of his old work. He has to keep searching for better talents in every role.
I do not mind if the whole team is flushed by better talents but we have to continue from where we stopped. It makes us a step ahead of other teams.
The main thing is continuity. I feel it is a strength. The problem is the way FIFA categorizes these age grade competitions.Ideally It should be U17, U19, U21 & U23 just like UEFA. This is a system that can more effectively encourage continuity. What do you make of an U20 team that 90% of the players are 17-18 years olds.Such was our New Zealand Team. They could only beat North Korea and Hungary in that tourney and fell like pack of cards against more gifted sides like Brazil and Germany. |

People miss that Amunike screened over 600 players for the U20 qualifiers. Spending months in camp with these players.
It was not a biased selection but players ready to give him what he wanted. Wilfred Ndidi was not part of the U17 winning squad. Ndidi had even already played U20 in 2013. It is the inclusion of such players that I am clamouring for. U20 players with experience and already playing professional football. |

Remember when the U20 kicks off, we will need a team ready to meet the challenges of the qualifiers. If they have not gelled, it will back fire.
Manu Garba's U20 boys gelled brilliantly. They were close to perfect during the warm up and qualifiers. Did well in the Super Six competition, Won the AYC.
So it is not all bad promoting the U17 coaches.
Amunike's boys had to do with abandon than lack of talent. I think we missed out of a promising team.
You did not take into consideration that those boys Won the U17 and got nothing. In camp, they were abandoned by the NFF.
You can not blame the system if the preparation is faulty.
This time, the failure is on the NFF and not the coaches. These coaches deserve fair chances and not neglect. The U20 team can start with a new coach with the previous U17 but a proper open camp for screening be carried out.Series of friendlies can also be arranged at this stage. An U17 graduate should only be a candidate for the U20 team. Not all U17 graduates are U20 materials. Go look at the 1987 Eaglets squad and compare with d 1989 Flying Eagles. Do same for the 2003 Eaglets and 2005 Flying Eagles. |

amagunnerfan: I wonder why NFF can't employ some of us on here to help with their scouting. The level of the scouting done via the previous youth threads is amazing.
Which our football body can swallow their prides and engage the passionate people on here. They are getting it for free here. |

TheGoodJoe: Nice vision.
I am down with this. I hope we do not waste Amunike's U20 boys and Manu Garba's boys who failed to qualify for the U17. We need much talented players as possible.
I hope the NFF gives Manu Garba the next U20 job. So he can continue with his lads. Please, NFF, support the players. The way we abandoned them this time showed in the results. I agreed with everything u said until you mentioned "so he can continue with HIS lads". That has never worked for us. The coaches have made a mess of that transition from U17 to U20. The coach moves straight from the U17 with HIS boys and shut out other U20 players because of selfish gains when the money bags start coming. We should not progress an U17 coach with the boys to U20 again. Our best performing U20 sets did not have coaches that progressed from the previous U17. Sebastian Brodrick-Imasuen was the coach of the 1987 Eaglets but Tunde Disu took charge of the Saudi 89 Flying Eagles that finished second. Augustine Eguavoen discovered Mikel, Ogbuike, Bala and co at the 2003 U17 but Samson Siasia took the team to finish second at the 2005 U20WC. When a previous U17 coach is progressed to the U20 (just like the last 2 sets of Flying Eagles)he would automatically prefer to work with his previous U17 shuting out other quality U20 players. For instance Etebo, Azubuike and Ajayi were eligible to play for the 2015 Flying Eagles. Etebo and Azubuike in particular would have added a lot to that team. |

joseph1013: I'm still trying to find the words to coin the title of the thread, but the objective is simple: This is a thread to discuss the progress of our young players abroad, just like Orkpekyandega suggested.
With the inability of our U17 and U20 players to qualify for the continental, and subsequently global, competitions, the former threads have been rendered inactive. This means that we are poised to miss the emergence of another generation of very promising players in the mould of Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Osimhen, Nwakali etc, but this thread aims to scout the ones who are fortunate enough to find themselves abroad and thus distinguishing themselves.
Welcome

Solid! U know, I thought of something similar when I was reading stories on some emerging teens on the super eagles thread yesterday. Your threads have been very informative on the progress of our young talents. I have even very much minimised my visit to kick-off, own goal.com, goal.com and the likes cos I get enough news here, added are rich and well informed series of arguments. A kind u cannot find on any other forum. U know each time I recall we are out of CAF U17, FIFA U17, CAF U20, FIFA U20 & AFCON, I begin to wonder if there is anything to look forward to next year (football-wise) aside the World Cup qualifiers. I personally love youths development and have always been a follower of our youth teams and emerging stars of Nigerian football. Opening a special thread for the young players now that we are out of U17 & U20 would be the ideal. |

forgiveness: Sir, it means we only think about ourselves, our interest and our desire.
I don't know how to explain again oooo.
Happy Sunday. Liar! But continue. By their posts you shall know them. |

delayoyo: How can you classify chemical engineering under petroleum engineering? Do you have an idea what a chemical engineer is capable of doing? He's miles ahead of a petroleum engineer. Who designs, fabricates and installs a petrochemical plant, a fertilizer plant and even a refinery? Can any factory of any sort take place without a chemical engineer? can a petroleum engineer handle reaction and process systems in a plant. Even the components of a drilling mud/fluid used by a petroleum engineer to drill for oil has the indispensable touch of a chemical engineer. My friend, please get your facts right before talking so that the purpose of your post can be achieved which is to enlighten. Thanks. My brother calm down. This is not an argument of who can do what more than who. He is right in this context. The Op used Production /Petroleum Engineers to represent all and Gas Technical workers. I am a Geologist and I quickly fathom I fall under that group. It may also interest you to know that in my organisation all the people that came in with a Chemical engineering degree have been converted to Petroleum Engineers, Drilling Engineers and Production Technologists. Same goes for Mechanical and Electrical graduates. And to that salaries range collected by Oil and Gas personnel the range is wider. The minimum may even be half of the lower end of the range he quoted and the upper end is triple the higher end of that range. Fact. |
