Orkpekyandega: Eagles/ Pharaohs AFCON 2017 qualifier: NFF begins mobilisation of Kaduna fans https://sunnewsonline.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/NFF-President-Amaju-Pinnick.jpg By George Aluo
TheNigeria Football Federation (NFF) has began moves aimed at ensuring the Super Eagles get maximum support when they play host to the Pharaohs of Egypt in next month’s AFCON 2017 qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Hint to this effect was dropped yesterday by President of the soccer federation, Amaju Pinnick in an exclusive chat with Daily Sunsports.
Pinnick disclosed that the NFF has already started mobilising the Kaduna soccer fans, ahead of the crucial match which the Eagles must win to keep qualification hopes alive.
In Pinnick’s words: “I know the Eagles will get total support in Kaduna when Egypt come calling.
The fact that we are playing in Kaduna is a huge advantage. It is a venue that you are sure the fans will get behind you right from the very first blast of the referee’s whistle. As we speak, we have started mobilizing the fans. We want them to double their support for the team on that day.
We want a situation where the entire arena will be painted green and white. We want a full house, we are already working towards this. God willing, all will be fine in spite of the CHAN 2016 setback.”
The NFF boss said the soccer federation will leave no stone unturned in the build up to the all-important clash, even as he urged Nigerians to support the team with prayers.
The Eagles would three days after hosting Egypt in Kaduna travel to Cairo for the second leg of the double header which would no doubt determine the country that picks the sole ticket of the group for the Gabon 2017 Nations Cup.
Egypt would enter the Kaduna game as group leaders. Although tied on points with Nigeria, the Pharaohs have a superior goals difference. sunnewsonline.com/new/eagles-pharaohs-afcon-2017-qualifier-nff-begins-mobilisation-of-kaduna-fans/ What is the politics behind using that Kaduna venue that has a pumpy pitch? NFF wants to embarrass Nigeria again. Can't we use our NATIONAL STADIUM in Abuja? |

NLban: NFF Threaten To Suspend, Demote Oliseh Over CHAN Utterances https://i1.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/oliseh-sunday.jpg?w=800 By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Irked by the failure of the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Nations Championship, the Nigeria Football Federation may suspend or demote head coach Sunday Oliseh over utterances considered as an affront by his employers.
Completesportsnigeria.com gathered that officials of the federation are annoyed by Oliseh’s buck passing and comments after the Super Eagles crashed out of CHAN in Rwanda in the first round.
Oliseh blamed lack of motivation for Eagles’ early exit from CHAN claiming that he fed the team with his money to the tune of $4000 at their training camp in Pretoria, South Africa.
Fuming with rage, an executive committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation who requested anonymity revealed that the federation has been keeping records of Oliseh’s comments on radio and print media, and will act at the appropriate time.
“Oliseh should have taken responsibility for the Eagles crash and move on with preparations for the all-important AFCON qualifiers against Egypt, but he chose to make the NFF the scape goat with his comments that his players were not motivated,” the NFF official said.
“His behaviour after the exit of the Eagles from CHAN is an infringement on the code of conduct for national teams and he cannot claim ignorance of this because he was given a copy of the COC when took the job as head coach of the Super Eagles.
“We are waiting for his technical report and reply to the query before he faces the technical committee who will recommend what action to be taken against him.
“The truth be said, Oliseh has yet to show signs that he is capable of taking the Eagles to the expected heights. We might ask him to work under a technical adviser or resign if he cannot but we can’t risk leaving him to experiment with our dear Super Eagles.”

Then the question shud be changed to Why was benedict akwuegbu taken and yakubu dropped? I was not aware abt the comment u claimed onigbinde made concernin 3sc players so I ve no cause to defend what I don't knw. I'm nt sure the high chief said that u might ve misquoted him or u were mis-informed by a journalist. If u can provide d source and let's check for d credibility of d source...(Ade ojeikere is my best sports analyst followed by ralph chidozie george) What? Opabunmi better than Akwuegbu? Opabunmi that had jst graduated from d U17 & was still at 3SC waiting for his European offers to click. Benedict Akwuegbu a graduate of the 1989 Eaglets, verstly experienced, and featured prominently at 2000 & 2002 AFCONs. Yakubu hu could also had been chosen ahead of Opabunmi was a peoduct of the 2000 Olympics, He was then playing at Macabi Haifa of Isreal and scored a hat-trick in that 4-0 demolision of Sudan enroute qualification for that 2002 WC. Most football analysts then disnt understand y Opabunmi was taken ahead of Ayegbeni. The simple answer from Onigbinde was " he is my boy". Opabunmi's talent then was nt even any where near Victor Osimhen's talent of today. I dnt want to drag this argument further cos this is an U23 thread. Go back in time, it is nt too long ago to remember, there were question marks as per d inclusion of Adepoju and Opabunmi in dat 2002 WC list. As per Onigbinde's ethnocentric comment after joining 3SC I am very sure of what i am talking abt. It was even a subject of discuss in of d sports show then.I cannot give u links on that comment bc d internet was nt as widely used then as today. So probably nt documented. 2002 is jst like yesterday to me. forgiveness: You see yourself! You are not been honest with the truth.
Who dropped them? Why? Was it Onigbinde or the NFF and the Sport Minister? Was it because of indiscipline or lack of form?
The last time i checked that list, i only saw four players from his region.
How come you only hand pick Opabunmi and Adepoju? How come you refused to see Vicent Enyeama, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Eric Ejiofor, Justice Christopher, Austin Ejide, John Utaka, Pius Ikedia etcetera Players we all know were not ready for the World Cup? In fact, some were flop while some became the best players in Europe.
Are you affirming that there was an ethnocentric reason behind Stephen Keshi decision to have picked 96% players from his region over Taye Taiwo, Obafemi Martins, Raheem Lawal, Sone Aluko, Peter Odemwigie, etcetera. players that were inform of their life?
@ bolded, do you have any prove?
Hmmm! Reason, I prefer a foreign coach because you have just....... Well, I wasn't d one that raised eye-brow over Onigbinde's inclusion of Adepoju and Opabunmi. It was d Nigerian press and close observers. Adepoju had long past his peak and was nt even part of d qualifiers. Pple saw him as retired already and all of a sudden he made d world cup squad. It is jst like including some1 like John Utaka in our 2018 WC squad. Opabunmi had jst featured at d U17 WC a few months earlier and he made d list even ahead of Yakubu and Babangida. Soccer pundits then didn't understand d rationel behind d inclusion of the 2 players in the team. Opabunmi (too young & inexperienced); Adepoju( too old and had lost steam). Onigbinde's defence was "Adepoju is my joker. Opabunmi and Adepoju are my boys so I am taking them to d World Cup". If u remembered vividly that statement didnt go down well with Pundits and analysts including some NFA board members. Some people even said he took Adepoju to d WC jst to help him financially. I am sure u know neither Adepoju nor Opabunmi kicked a single ball at that world cup. |

bigblangston: . He never used Adepoju because he thought there was nothing to play for after d loss to d swedes just wanted to use d game against england to test new players. What of the eric ejiofor that he took to d tournament (ojekeire no like dis guy) dat shitty defender all because he was able to outmuscle some ismailly fc players the guy was chosen. Pius ikedia was selected because he outperformed babaginda in training and ikedia is a yoruba right?... Comparing players frm one generation to another generation is very wrong because football is dynamic, tactics in one era may not be used in anoda era, I laff when people start comparing maradona to messi. Most coaches lik to take senior players to a major tourney so dat they can serve as a source of inspiration to the younger ones... Barthlomew ogbeche was the exception and few other players eg ejiofor, benedict akwuegbu in that star studded team. The team never really gelled cos they were hurriedly assembled because of our NFA, missed the ishaya mark aku led board Opabunmi too was better than Ayegbeni right? And u have nt defended his comment after being appointed coach of 3SC in 2003 This Ojeikere that u are always mentioning sef. |

The player he should ve picked then was Yakubu but he preferred to pick Barthlomew ogbeche because of the scissor kick against paraguay in a meaningless friendly only for him to flatter to deceive *in Ade ojeikere's voice* Onigbinde picked many igbo players in dat team compared to the yorubas or y'all wanted an all igbo national team.. Christopher justice jst disappeared after the WC........ Modified Was Adepoju nt past his prime then? Opabunmi featured at d 2001 U17 WC & in 2002 he was no where near compared to Iheanacho is today. forgiveness: Hmm! Bros, Na work ooo.
Defend? Until their report card comes out at the end of the season there is nothing to defend because Dominic Solanke could also score 5 goals in a match. So, let's wait and see.
Sir, What do you mean when you said 'don't go the way of Onigbinde'? Because i have been trying to figure out what you meant by that.
Onigbinde started with the National team in 1983 and he was the one that discovered Rasheed Yekini and Peter Rufai prior to the AFCON Nations Cup in 1984. He took his team to the finals but unfortunately he lost in the final to Cameroon after he dropped Rufai and played a basket.
He went to Shooting_Stars_F.C the same year and took them to the finals of African Champions Cup. And that was the first time a Nigerian clubside ever achieved that feat of getting to the finals.
2002 World Cup (i don lose interest for Nigerian football then after the disappointment of France 1998 hence I showed no interest) which i did't really follow hence I didn't know what happened then. You can pls tell me. But I know he brought Vicent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo to the National team.
As you can see, I don't understand what you meant. Recall his comment when asked abt y he took Adepoju(hu was virtually called back frm retirement) and Opabunmi to the 2002 WC when it was obvious they were nt good enough at that time to make d team.Remember he dropped Finidi George, Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida and Victor Ikpeba. The Nigerian press tagged him a tribalist nt jst bc he picked Opabunmi and Adepoju ahead of the above mentioned Golden generation Eagles bt bc of the ethnocentric reason behind his decision. It was d Ibadan connection though Onigbinde is from Modakeke bt was based in Ibadan jst like Adepoju and Opabunmi. U remember what he said when appointed Shooting stars coach for the 2003/2004 season? He said he wanted to build a 3SC team that will comprise only of the Yoruba players. 3SC managed to escape relegation that season and Onigbinde was fired . Have u noticed he is d last Yoruba to coach d Super Eagles. Although i still respect that man a lot. U know he laid d foundation for the rise of Gambian football. |

What makes you think Chelsea, Man U or Arsenal will scramble for a player that will be off to the African Nations Cup every 2 years, Chelsea is a team that goes for ready-made players, Man U on the other hand won buy him they have the young French player (Anthony Martial), Arsenal or Arsene Wenger wont buy him. You are telling me Iheanacho is in Mancity to only be an understudy to Aguero? And he and Aguero are not on the same level no doubt but I am telling you that his future in City is not tied to Aguero as u pit it. Mikel, Drogba and Essien were in Chelsea and yet attended the AFCON severally and that did nt diminish their value in their club. Eboue, Javinho and Kolo Toure were at Arsenal and Wenger never held them back Mancity has not held Yaya Toure back from attending the AFCON. Arsene Wenger has just signed 3 Nigerian Teenagers in 1week; does he not think or believe those players will eventually play at the AFCON one day? Bros abeg leave that AFCON excuse. Arsenal welcome Aaron Eyoma to the club as he has signed his first professional contract at the age of 19. The Nigerian is continuing the trend of growing youth relevance.
Arsene Wenger pointed out that unless Lionel Messi knocks on his door looking for a deal, Arsenal is done in the January transfer window. Mohamed Elneny is the man. But that doesn’t mean that they are done making “signings.”
Nigerian 19 year old Aaron Eyoma has inked his first professional deal with the club, as confirmed by Arsenal’s official twitter account. The highly touted winger joins a growing trend of youth and Nigeria in North London. Aaron Eyoma Arsenal FC ✔ @Arsenal
Aaron Eyoma has signed his first professional contract with the club: http://arsn.al/pH5vFv
Eyoma was a prominent feature of the U18 squad last season, as his versatility took him all over the pitch. He scored five times for that Arsenal U18 side and scored another in just two appearances with the UEFA Youth League (via Arsenal.com).
Now 19 years old, he has been a sporadic member of the U21 side. In four minutes of play in the U21 Premier League side, he has managed an assist as his habit of making an impact could not be stifled by his limited opportunities. He has played 122 minutes in the U21 UEFA Youth League as well. However, his only start came at right back in Arsenal U21’s 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb where he played the full 90 minutes.
At the U19 level, he has made six appearances and netted once (stats via Transfermarkt).
Despite the limited appearances, there is still plenty to be excited about with young Eyoma. He is a player much like his countryman Alex Iwobi, who uses his strength and direct approach to outwit and outmuscle opposing defenders. His eye for goal is not something to be taken lightly, as no matter where he goes, he contributes to the ball hitting the back of the net.
His versatility is also something to be valued highly, as he has played everything from right back to right wing. Granted, Arsenal has a massive surplus of right wings, they can always use more youth talent.
Eyoma continues a couple growing trends at Arsenal. For starters, he is Nigerian, which given the emergence of Alex Iwobi and the newest signings of Samuel Chuckwueze and Kelechi Nwakali, looks to be a growing crop at Arsenal. Next: Has Chuba Akpom Turned The Corner?
Second, he is an internal signing as opposed to an external signing. Wenger loves his youth talents and Eyoma is just another one to keep an eye on. http://paininthearsenal.com/2016/02/01/arsenal-ink-winger-aaron-eyoma-as-youth-relevance-grows/ Yet another Nigerian. Arsenal should just come and establish another academy somewhere close to Ajegunle in Lagos. Na there talent sure pass. |

omar22: Do you think the arrival of Pep Guardiola could spell the end of Kelechi Iheanacho time at the "Citizens", Because Kelechi Iheanacho is an understudy to Kunn Aguero but if Aguero isnt Pep's preferred choice of striker then that hinders the young Nigerians development at the club. So Iheanacho's chances are tied to Aguero's being Pep's preferred choice or not ? That he is only there to understudy Aguero? I don't think so bro. Iheanacho is not the kind of player any well meaning coach can ignore. If Pep choses to loan or sell him watchout how the likes of Manu, Arsenal and Chelsea will scamper for him. |

forgiveness: Ezekiel Imoh(East), Moses Simon(Not sure), Chuck Aneke(East), Odion Ighalo(SS), Ekpolo Elohor(SS), Dominic Solanke(West), Umar Sadiq(North) are they all from the same section of the country?
I knew you set that trap the other day with Taye Taiwo but i intentionally avoided it at first. But you can see i later replied you before you asked that question. Even another person did the same thing but he failed woefully.
Sorry, I don't choose/support players based on where they come from. I only focus on their performance and that's all.
Do you expect me to support a player seating on the bench over one playing regularly as some of you do here? Never. It's not done anywhere except only in Nigeria where a coach will bring bench warmers and mediocre players over talented and those playing regularly.
I will continue to support what is good. That's all. There is this different passion with which u defend players like: Dominic Solanke, Obafemi Martins, Taye Taiwo, Juwon Oshaniwa, Tiago Ilori, Sadiq Umar, Odubajo, Raheem Lawal. I suspected u were from a particular part of the country. And i was right. Bros dnt follow d way of Onigbinde o. U remember what he did at the 2002 WC? He later did same as d coach of 3SC a year later. The results were nt good o. |

Orkpekyandega: Chikatara, Okoro In 7 CHAN Eagles Good Enough For Main Squad https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IMG_20160126_220637.jpg
Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has tipped seven or eight members of his squad to the African Nations Championship to graduate to the A squad following impressive individual performances, despite the collective failure. Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU, who is in Kigali covering CHAN, names his own seven Home Eagles for the main squad…
Ikechukwu Ezenwa The Sunshine Stars goalkeeper battled stiff competition from Olufemi Thomas and Okiemute Odah to emerge as the side’s first choice goalkeeper. The former junior international proved his class in the Home Eagles’ three games in the competition. He certainly looks good to continue his role as assistant to Carl Ikeme in the main Super Eagles side.
Kalu Orji A versatile defender who can play either as a right-back or centre-back. The Rangers International of Enugu star who nearly missed the competition due to illness came in as a substitute in Nigeria’s first two games in the competition and showed he can be relied on in the future. He helped stabilised the Eagles’ defence after coming on for the fumbling Jamiu Alimi in Nigeria’s first game against Niger and did the same against Tunisia. It was a surprise that he didn’t get to start the last game against Guinea, the only game the Eagles lost in the competition.
Austin Obaroakpo The Abia Warriors centre-back is one of Sunday Oliseh’s favourite players and looked to have further boosted his chances of keeping his place in the team with an above average showing at the African Nations Championship.
Ifeanyi Matthew The highly-rated midfielder all things being equal will be in Nigeria’s squad for the AfricaCup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Egypt in March. The El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri man was one of the key performers for the home-based Super Eagles in Rwanda and he is highly regarded by the coaching crew.
The disappointing display of Paul Onobi may have also increased Matthew’s chances of earning a spot in the main Super Eagles squad.
Chisom Chikatara The darling of the local fans here in Kigali ‘Chakatara’, as they pronounce his name, scored four goals for the Eagles in their ill-fated campaign in Rwanda. Though Nigeria is blessed with a number of attacking talents, he has done enough to show he can compete at the highest level.
Osas Okoro Another key performer for the Home Eagles in Rwanda. He won the man of the match honour in the Eagles’ second game against Tunisia and did enough to justify the coach’s faith in him. He has surely done enough to get a berth in the AFCON qualifiers.
Usman Muhammed One of the most talented members of the squad. The FC Taraba midfielder is highly rated by coach of the side Sunday Oliseh. He is certain to get more opportunities to impress in future.

Not even Chisom Chikatara hu may at best b good enough for an U23 callup. Others like Chima Akas, Ifeanyi Mathew and Usman Mohammed may also b invited to d U23 camp. |
