Kayode Olanrewaju Is On Best Scoring Run Since Joining Austria Vienna

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/53106Kayode.jpg
Kayode Olanrewaju extended his goalscoring streak to three games in the Bundesliga after finding the net in Austria Vienna’s 3-1 win against Ried on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was substituted on immediately after the intermission and registered his name on the scoresheet for the 11th time in the ongoing season in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Olanrewaju is on his best scoring run since his arrival at Austria Vienna from Maccabi Netanya in summer of 2015.

He found the net against leaders Salzburg on February 28, then hit target against Admira three days later before scoring against Ried.

He is third highest goalscorer in the top-flight, with only two goals separating him from teammate Gorgon but needs six more goals presently to catch up with the leader Soriano .

ALHAJI GERO SCORES BRACE IN SWEDEN

https://i1.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/image-26.jpg?resize=300%2C195
Former Nigeria U-20 player Alhaji Gero scored twice to help his Swedish side Oestersunds FK beat AFC United 3-0 in a Sweden cup game.

Gero’s brace came in a space of two minutes in the 30th and 32nd minute of the game before Saman Ghoddos scored the third and final goal for Oestersunds.

22 year old Gero joined the team this year from Viborg of Denmark where he spent a one and half year making 41 appearances with 9 goals.

The former Enugu Rangers forward has 10 goals since moving to Europe in 2013 where he has so far played for three teams with varying degree of success.

His best scoring season came in the 2014 season where he scored 8 times from 26 games for Oster before his transfer to Viborg.

SCOUTING REPORT: Rabiu Ibrahim, Madu top in Slovakia

https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/03/Samm_28_February_580x473.jpg
Rabiu Ibrahim

by Samm Audu

Nigeria internationals Rabiu Ibrahim and Kingsley Madu have been named among the best players in Solvakia for the past year.

In a special Instat Scouting Report, Rabiu Ibrahim was chosen among the top midfielders, while compatriot Madu was named one of the star defenders in Slovakia for 2015.

The report described Rabiu as “the classic No 10 with a magical left foot” and “The New Jay-Jay Okocha”.

The 24-year-old midfielder was scored 88% in passing and 79% for his dribbles, but he could do a lot better with his tackling (55%) and shooting (56%).

In the year under review, he scored three goals and provided an assist in 22 appearances for his club Trencin.

The suggestion is that he should now retest himself in a bigger league in Europe after failed stints in Holland and Scotland.

Leftback Madu was scored 83% for passes, 68% dribbles and 58% for tackles.

Last year, the 20-year-old defender played 20 matches during which he netted a goal and made three assists.

“He’s a quick defender, who is capable of delivering decisive passes and loves to join the attack. He also works hard in training,” remarked Trencin official Andrej Zacik.

He has been linked with several top clubs in Europe including Tottenham Hotspur, PSV and Ajax Amsterdam.

His contract at Trencin ends on December 31, 2016.

Eddy Onazi Lacking Match Fitness Ahead Of Crunch Tie With Egypt

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/50023eddy.jpgEddy Onazi’s inactivity for Lazio in the Italian Serie A should be a cause for concern for the Super Eagles handlers ahead of the national team’s African Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures with Egypt later this month.

For the fifth straight game, the former My People ace failed to get match time as Lazio were held to a 1-1 draw by Joel Obi’s Torino on Sunday in the 28th round of matches.

Of the 11 matches contested by the capital team since the start of this year, Onazi has featured in only two of them, lasting the distance against Carpi and Napoli.

Bringing the statistics to life, the defensive midfielder has appeared in 13 out of a possible 40 games in all competitions for Lazio since the start of this season and has missed 67.5 percent of the team’s games.

The 23-year-old has racked up 929 minutes of game time this term, meaning he has been on the pitch in only a quarter of the total minutes Lazio have been involved in action.

That does not mean he lacks match fitness for the Egypt clash. National team football is different from Club football.
So long as he is not injured and reports to camp early enough like the other players, then he is good to go. Eddy Ogenyi Onazi is still our best DMF option. He will not play the Kaduna leg though due to match suspension.

Nigerian youngster Chukwuemeka Henry Oyekuru inspired his Belgian second division side Eupen to a 2-1 win over Cercle Brugge.

Oyekuru scored the opening goal in the 44th minute.

He has now scored five goals in the league.

Oyekuru said he wishes to win the second-tier league title with his club and win them promotion to the top flight.

"The league is still open and we are only six points away from the team in first position. My target is to help my team gain promotion,” he said.

Manchester United lead transfer race for Arsenal target Watford striker

Odion Ighalo celebrates a goal for Watford

Arsene Wenger is also keen on the £20m-rated Nigerian, but it's understood the Reds will press ahead regardless of who their manager next season

Manchester United are front-runners to sign £20million-rated Watford striker Odion Ighalo, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.

But with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also keen, the Nigerian looks likely to be the subject of a summer tug-of-war.

Man United are in the box seat and, intriguingly, Sunday People Sport understands they will press ahead with plans to sign the player whether Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho is in charge at Old Trafford for next season.

Mourinho in particular is an admirer of the 26-year-old Ighalo, who has shot to prominence in the Premier League this season.

United are desperate to add firepower to their squad and Ighalo, who has scored 15 goals for Watford this season, ticks all the boxes for them.

Ighalo joined from Granada in 2014 and, having helped guide them into the top flight and started the campaign so well, admitted joining United would be “a dream”.

Speaking before the January transfer window, he said: “I don’t think I will be moving but I’m not sure I’d say no if United called.

“They were my team growing up. I loved watching Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke on TV. They were my idols and playing at Old Trafford has always been a dream.”

I prefer he goes to United. He has more prospects their. Manunited's attacking department is so lean dat an 18yrs old Rashford from d U19s was brought in to fill d attacking gap created by injuries to Rooney and Martial. Welbeck is back for Arsenal now and Olivier Giroud is ever present coupled with the fact dat Walcott and Alexis also can play in d CF position.

They both should remain in their currently various clubs, or musa should sign for Leicester at the opportunity cost of signing for arsenal. I am not against "promotion" but, to be frank, they both are small team players, I don't prescient them flourishing in top clubs for now except there is a preternatural influence.
Yeah, while i agree Musa should go to Leicester, I jst feel Ighalo should stay with Watford. His current goals drought could serve as a warning signal that he might nt jst b as fantastic as we think he is. And this might jst result in dwindling interest from d big clubs if d drought continues. I mean look at d clear header chance he missed against Leicester yesterday.

Football is not about past exploits.

Onazi is a good player but he has hardly played in the last few weeks. What is his match fitness like? A player who is playing regularly would obviously have better match fitness. Ndidi played well in his debut, he can certainly hold his own.

I am not saying, don't invite Onazi but players who are in form and playing regularly should get reward for it.

In Nigeria, we don't reward good form. We will rather take a Reuben Gabriel who had not played regularly for years to the world cup at the expense of more regular players because of past exploits.
What makes u feel Onazi's match fitness is in doubt. A player with great abilities Will always display great abilities. Game time is good bt nt every thing. Can u tell me that in the game Egypt vs Nigeria u will field Ndidi over Onazi? U cannot over-look d abilities and experience Onazi has gathered over d years. For DMF position we need such a big player for such a big game.

As I said before, Onazi should nt b d person u are questioning his inclusion it should b Azubuike Okechukwu.

On that Siasia's list d only absent players that i raised questions abt were Leon Balogun and d choice of Awuzie over Madu. Balogun has been included so I am ok with d list cos I know Echiejile can do d job in d absence of Madu.

Ndidi should keep doing it at club level. His time is coming.Bt I hope Azubuike again will nt b selected ahead of him in d Olympic team?

Leicester target Musa: I dream of Arsenal move

https://static.goal.com/2589600/2589672_heroa.jpg
By Tom Davis

The Nigeria international is reportedly being trailed by a host of Premier League clubs, including the Foxes, but admits he has always been a fan of the Emirates Stadium outfit

CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa confirmed Leicester Cityhad a bid for his services turned down in January, yet admits his preferred choice of club would be title rivals Arsenal.

The 23-year-old, who has a £22.8 million buyout clause in his contract, was the subject of a reported £18.7m bid from the Foxes as they looked to bolster their title hopes.

Claudio Ranieri's side were left frustrated in their attempts to sign the Nigeria star - who has scored 10 goals this season - but Musa, while confirming a bid, instead hinted at a move to the Gunners.

"What club? I do not care!" he told Championatwhen asked about interest from other clubs.

"But Musa has to play, you know. I cannot sit on the bench. So I will have to go to the Premier League club that will believe in me.

"I would be happy if I was wanted by Arsenal. I have supported the team since the age of six.

Nwankwo Kanu has been my idol since childhood. It will be fantastic to play for Arsenal.

"I will not hide it - Leicester actually came to our club. But I repeat that I want to finish the season with CSKA to help them to win a championship, and then think about changing team."

CSKA are level on points with FK Rostov at the top of Russian Premier League, yet have a game in hand, ahead of their meeting with derby rivals Spartak Moskow on Sunday.

Onazi Out Of Nigeria Vs Egypt In Kaduna Over Suspension

BY Johnny Edward:
SS Lazio of Italy midfielder Ogenyi Onazi will miss the Super Eagles home tie against Egypt in Kaduna due to the red card he got in the 2-0 win over Chad last year, Comple tesportsnigeria.com reports.

Onazi who was listed in the 20 overseas –based players for Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-take against the Pharaohs of Egypt this month will however be eligible for the reverse fixture against the Pharaohs in Alexandria four days later.

Onazi was picked along with John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England); Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England); Azubuike Okechukwu (Yeni Matalyspor, Turkey) as the four overseas –based midfield players for the double header against Hector Cuper's team.

Onazi who is the vice-captain of the team has eight Serie A appearances for the Biancocoleste this term.

Sorry but, was Mubi's case not due to injury? I know he returned and had a poor game against Yugoslavia 3-0 in the friendlies. It was not that poor to me. That was a young man fighting to save a shambolic performance of the whole team.

When Jero Shakpoke took over, he showed promise but injured. That led to the return of Eguavoen who Clarence Seedorf tore to shreds in the 5-1 demolition friendly game against Guus Hiddink's Netherland.

After that, Mubi became the first choice because he was the best option afterJero's injury.
So what happened to Mubi afterwards? He lost form and Gbenga Okunowo hu then played for Barcelona took over. And Yobo took over from Okunowo. Abbey George came in 2004 and Yobo went to centre back. Chidi Odiah took over in 2005. Odiah to me is our last recognised Right back. Ambrose was converted to Right back to fill in dat space after Chibuzor Okonkwo and Solomon Kwambe were nt considered good enough. I can tell u dat Ambrose for many yrs did creditably well at right back.

Rating all d right back from d 80s to date, I would rate them in this order from d best to d worst:
Austin Eguavoen
Chidi Odiah
Efe Ambrose
Joseph Yobo
Mubi Oparaku
Abbey George
Gbenga Okunowo
Others:Jerom Shakponke, Solomon Kwambe, Chibuzor Okonkwo and others.

Whilst Ambrose or shehu can play right back, it is always best to play a right back that does it weekly at Club level. Ambrose is prone to a lack of concentration, particularly at right back.

Efe also did well at the 2014 WC. The dip in performance affected the whole of the defense. Echiejile was not at the WC due to injury bt he came back struggling to keep his place during AFCON 2015 Qualifiers. So much was expected of Kenneth Omeruo considering how he quickly replaced Joseph Yobo from d starting line -up. Obaobona to me is jst enjoying the good will from his performance at the 2013 AFCON. Ambrose did struggle as a right back during our 2015 AFCON Qualifiers. Leon Balogun was still nursing the injury he sustained prio to the 2014 WC.

The whole defense including Onazi were nt at their best during the last days of Keshi. Oliseh made some changes and started playing Ambrose at Centre back so also Balogun and u saw the kind of performance Efe put in as a centre back. Omeruo was out injured (which was y the preference of Efe and Balogun as centre back pair). Shehu Abdullahi had to play Right back and Chima Akas replaced Echiejile for the return leg against Swaziland.

Omeruo is expected back in the Team now and so a central Defense pairing of him and Ambrose or Obaobona is expected. Balogun as likely right back and Madu/Echiejile/Amuzie/Oshaniwa/Akas as it pleases Siasia will play left back.

You are right about Musa Mohammed. Let us even see him do it in his club first. At least we can see what the likes of Awaziem and Odubajo are doing at club level.

Celestine Babayaro and Mubi Oparaku needed to play in the Olympics to convince The Super Eagles coaches that they were ready for senior action even though they were doing great in Europe then. U needed to be Super good then to replace Ben Iroha and Austine Eguavoen (hu in my opinion are the best left and Right backs respectively that ever wore the Super Eagles Jerseys).
In like ways the Olympics would be there for Awaziem, Odubajo, Ehizibue, Musa Mohammed and the whole lot of others to prove they are ready for senior action.

See guys, I want to see a situation where these young players grow together, forming a formidable crop and maturing into the Super Eagles together; forcing the older players into mass retirement. That was what happened in 1996. The likes of Stephen Keshi, Chidi Nwanu, Thompson Oliha, Ben Iroha, Austin Eguavoen (was called back after Mubi became a cause to worry at Right back), Uche Okafor, Samson Siasia were all forced to retire due to the emergence of Kanu Nwankwo, Wilson Oruma, Celestine Babayaro, Victor Ikpeba, Tijani Babangida, Mubi Oparaku and Garba Lawal.

We need to be patient on these young players. They still need more game time at club level and need also to participate at the Olympics and FIFA U20 for those that are still eligible.

Just take a look at some of the players eligible to play at next FIFA U20: Sadiq Umar, Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Ezeh, Ifeanyi Mathew, SincereSeth, Azubuike Okechukwu, Chidozie Awaziem, Including the likes of Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze and the rest of their set. This would be a killer squad. Nigerians lets be patient and watch the boys progress well through d age-grades and into the Super Eagles.

For the games against Egypt no room for experiments, I would rather the coaches go with the regular defenders.

The two goals conceded by nigeria in the friendly in Belgium against congo was purely shehu abdullahi's fault. He his better off a DMF and not a RB. So should not be considered a RB for the Eagles. We ve better choices in dat position home n abroad.
Abdulahi Shehu played as a defender at the 2013 FIFA U20 WC. Keshi played him as DMF at the 2014 CHAN. He also currently plays as a Midfielder in his Portuguese club. So it means he can play both in the Midfield and defense.

Pls can u enlighten us on how the 2 goals were his fault?

NLban:

I think the problem with me is that, I expect too much from her. Believe me she is not the player I knew during her days with the U20s.
She didn't do much as I had expected in our last matches before the end of last year. No arguments intended though.

This is a general problem affecting most of the Super Falcon players. Nigeria has persistently paraded killer squads at the last four U20 World cups. We have played in 3 semis and 2 finals.

However, our Super Falcons have not benefitted from these U20 achievements.

From the 2008 U20 I can recall outstanding players like Sarah Michael, Ebere Orji, Chiwendu Chikwelu among others. And I think Opranozie was in that team as a 16 yrs old. They lost 3-2 to France in the quarter final.

The 2010 quad had the likes of Desire Opranozie, Ebere Orji, Uchechi Sunday, Rebecca Kalu, Helen Ukaonu, Esther Sunday, Osinachi Ohale. They lost in the final to host Germany.

The 2012 squad had: Franscesca Ordega, Ebere Orji, Desire Oparanozie, Ngozi Okobi, Esther Sunday, Ugo Njoku, Josephine Chukwunonye, Asisat Oshoala and others. They finished 4th

The 2014 squad had: Chiwendu Ihezue, Courtney Dike, Asisat Oshoala, Ugo Njoku, Uchechi Sunday, Loveth Ayila, Osarenoma Igbinovia, Sarah Nnodim among others. This set to me is the best crop of U20 the Nigerian female team has ever produced. They painted that tourney with goals. Asisat Oshola, Courtney Dike and Uchechi Sunday where ruthless.

Observation: A good number of these players featured up to 2 or 3 times which I would say is good for their exposure and experience.
Looking back from 2008 to 2014 it means all these players would be 28yrs or less now.I know one thing abt female football: The older and more experienced the better. Nigeria should be competing with likes of USA, Germany, Sweden and Japan at Senior women football level now. We have produced female players that have almost conquered the world on abt 3 occasions even with some of these girls featuring 2ce or 3ce.

Now the question is what went wrong?

Could it be the local league?
Age cheating?
Lack of quality Team handlers?
Bad Team selection?

I think it is all of the above. Until the NFF tackles each of the possible reasons for the set-back listed above we may not make progress in women football.
