Sports › Super Eagles Cruise Pass Yemen. by Icon4s(op): 9:14pm On Jan 17, 2015 |
Nigeria's Super Eagles finished their Middle East tour with a 2-0 win over the Yemeni national team at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai. Two goals in each half from Mfon Udoh and defender Azubuike Egwuekwe gave the African champions a 2-0 win in the international friendly on Saturday. Nigeria assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, made only one change from the team that lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast as Steven Ukoh came in for his first international start for the crocked Kingsley Sokari who failed to recover from his ankle knock. The Super Eagles had a flurry of chances in the opening exchanges but could not convert most of the chances that their way. Nelson Ogbonnaya was the main man in the Nigeria defence as he thwarted the efforts of the Yemeni attack led by Yasser Al Gabr. The Super Eagles eventually made their domination pay in the 25th minute as Mfon Udoh broke his international duck with a well taken goal to put Nigeria in the lead. Warri Wolves forward Stanley Dimgba was a delight to watch on the right for Nigeria as he constant tormented the Yemeni defence as the first half came to a close. Yemen came out fighting in the second half and created chances of their own through Motaz Qaid and Mohammed Boqshan, but rarely troubled Chigozie Agbim in goal for Nigeria. The Eagles kept on piling the pressure in the second half and deservedly doubled their lead when giant defender, Egwuekwe, made it 2-0 for Nigeria in the 64th minute. Yemen went all out to get a consolation but the Eagles held firm to nick their first win of 2015. Line-ups Nigeria line up: Chigozie Agbim, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Chima Akas, Joseph Nathaniel, Mohammed Gambo, Rabiu Ali, Stanley Dimgba, Solomon Kwambe, Steve Ukoh,Nelson Ogbonnaya, Joseph Nathaniel Yemen: Abdulwasea Al Matari, Ahmed Al Hifi, Yaser Al Gabr, Waleed Al Hubaishi, Mudir Abdurabu, Motaz Qaid, Mohammed Boqshan, Mohammed Ayash, Mohammed Al Ghanei, Hamada Al Zubairi, Ala'a Al Sasi Source: http://www.supersport.com/football/super-eagles/news/150117/Super_Eagles_cruise_past_Yemen

thegoodjoehunt3: You are missing the point. The U23 Olympics football is close to top professional football. Coach Siasia has to get our players playing technically together. Most of the players on Africa can not walk into a top league without going through some changes. Most of the African sides do not play technical football.
A top European team play to positional weakness and team coordination. So our side might look formidable but against a technical side, they would crumble. So playing such teams will improve our technical side and make the team click faster.
Egyptian teams already play technically, so they do not need development in that area, compared to us. You can not compare the development technical play between Egyptian clubs and our clubs. My Brother i get ur point. You are right in d sense dat our boys need quality European opposition.Bt nt at this stage. u must understand dat there is a différence btw tehcnical ability and tactical ability. West African teams are usually gifted technically bt playing as a team they lack certain tactical abilities. The Egyptian team mayb better than d Nigerian team tactically bt nt technically. However my point is a friendly against Ghana, CIV, Cameroun or even Egypt would prove more productive @ this African qualifying stage than a friendly against European teams. Our boys need to know how to over come d physicality and technicality of some of these African sides. After we qualify for d Olympics oh bring on Belgium, bring on Spain, bring on Holland. |
Sports › Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by Icon4s(m): 2:13pm On Dec 22, 2014 |
thegoodjoehunt3: You are looking at History and not present form. Is there any African U23 player rated as high as Lukaku?
I told you The Belgium side beat Spain 4-1 in Novemeber. Are you trying to say such a side is not strong?
There was a time, Italy dominated the European U21 championship. 1992: Winners. 1994: Winners. 1996: Winners. 2000: Winners. 2004: Winners.
Playing a top European side will expose our tactical weaknesses more than playing a physical side. Problem is u pple watch and know too much of European football and little or nothing abt African football. U are talking abt Lukaku. Is he nt of DR Congo Origin? Talking of recent history and achievement of African Youth teams:Nigeria d best record at U17. Nigeria won U17 in 2007 & 2013(nt to make mention of 1985 & 1993).Ghana won U20 in 2009 & got to semis in 2013 while Nigeria came 2nd in 2005. I still maintain that aside Spain, no Country in Europe can match d pedigree of Nigeria and Ghana at Youth level. Egypt knows they will start with African oppositions which is y dey arranged a 4game friendly with Nigeria. Meanwhile una wan go play Belgium. |

thegoodjoehunt3: Coach Siasia has not ruled out playing African sides. However, he needs top level games to get this players developed technically. Many African sides are not developed technically and that could be an edge for our team. Remember when Egypt dominated African football. That was due to the technical advancement of their play.
So foreign lads can also bring a technical edge and the home based lads can train alongside these foreign professionals and can develops the technical side of their game. Maybe after qualifying for the Olympics they should start playing European and South American oppoaition. What the U23 lads need now especially those ajebo foreign based is thé mental and physical strenght to compete against African oppositions. Most of them have never played under a hostile environment and on bumpy pitches. Jst imagine taking those Nigerian boys that play for Arsenal ånd Chelsea to play a game in Lubumbashi at 2pm kick-off time in d sunny afternoon and on a bumpy pitch. Na die b dat. |
Sports › Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by Icon4s(m): 3:31pm On Dec 18, 2014 |
thegoodjoehunt3: How can you say no team is as good as Nigeria? The Italians have a history of building World Class youth teams due to the way a lot of home grown youngsters play in the league. Are you not noticing the explosion of young Belgian talents like Januzaj and Lukaku. Belgium U21 beat the Spanish U21 4-1 last month in a friendly game.
Playing top oppositions will do our team a lot of good. These European boys like the Netherland teams are already playing in top professional leagues and will give our coaches better view of the technical aspect of the team. C, when it comes to age grade competitions Nigeria and Ghana are ranked along side Brazil and Argentina. What has Belgium or Italy that u mentioned won be it U17, U20, or U23?I even rate more highly youth teams from CIV, Guinea, Mali, Cameroun than most of those European teams. I have been following youths football for abt 30yrs. What we need for the U23 now are friendlies with Mostly West African rivals. Benin or even Togo can serve d purpose. Mtcheew Una wan go play Belgium and Italy bc of qualufiers against Gabon. |
