True. But that's because we don't have a lot of options in that CB position; because, to me, neither of those two should be indispensable. Don't get me wrong, Ekong and Balogun are both good players but they also have major weaknesses:
Balogun lacks pace
Ekong poor passing technique

In fact, I still haven't given up on Awaziem snatching one of the starting CB position in Russia if those two don't shape up. In fact, Awaziem should've become a starter before now if not for his pretty poor debut game against South Africa game.

Drogs was already a world class player and on the Ballon d'Or shortlist before he played for Mourinho. And by the way, don't forget that he rarely ever plays Drogba in his first season at Chelsea. Mourinho always starts Crespo ahead of Drogs!

Angel Di Maria wasn't a young player under Mourinho's Real Madrid either. This was the same player who singlehandedly destroyed Nigeria's Olympic team in the 2008 Olympic Games. That was several years before Mourinho came to Real Madrid. And in addition, Di Maria actually depreciated under Mourinho ... that's why they sold him.
Raphael Varane was only given a chance because Pepe had a big falling out with Mourinho. If Pepe hadn't criticized Mourinho's coaching style, there was no way Varane would've gotten much playing time at that age.

In fact, it's a well known shortcoming of Jose Mourinho that he rarely gives young players a chance. Marcus Rashford would've been a world class player by now if he's playing under a different coach. But he has depreciated under Mourinho. As a matter of fact, the only reason Mourinho plays him at all is because he's English international. Memphis Depay was shipped away as a mediocre player but today he's turned into a world class player. Today, Victor Moses is one of the best players in EPL but he would still be out on loan if Mourinho is still at Chelsea.

Please give me a break! Mourinho is one of those coaches who tends to reap where he did not sow. He can't develop a player to save his life. Despite spending more than $500m in the transfer market this season, he's already compiling a list and demanding another blank check so he can raid other teams next season!

There are certain players who, baring injury, are sure starters on this team regardless of formation. They are: John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses.
And you can throw in Wilfred Ndidi into the mix as well. All the other positions are negotiable.

If you watch the Argentina friendly, you'll realize that Ebuehi overlaps much more than Shehu and also have the ability to track back effortlessly. As a matter of fact, that's the area where I rated him much more than Shehu.

First of all, all these players you listed were already world class players before each one of them played under Mourinho so I can't see how or where he improved them. When I talked about improving players, I was referring to young and potential world class talents (DeBryune, Salah, VicMo, Obi Mikel, Arjen Robben, Romalu Lukaku etc.) developing and getting better under the special fraud. Rather what we saw was the players being relegated and eventually getting shipped out in favor of the already world class players.

It took Memphis Depay less than half a season away from Mourinho to become a world class player again.
Paul Pogba is a world class player anytime he suits up for France, but a mediocre player under Mourinho.
Lukaku was a bench warmer under Mourinho's Chelsea, but became a world class striker a season later with Everton only for Mourinho to come crawling back.
Mo Sallah was not good enough for Mourinho but became a star a season later with Roma.

Please name ONE young player that Mourinho has ever developed into a world class talent. And I mean EVER! Mourinho is a fraud, deceiving the folks that know very little or nothing about football.

Firstly, please keep this discussion as civil as possible. No need for the use of provocative words. We are only rubbing minds and discussing tactics.

Now, back to the discussion. Yes I watch matches almost everyday mostly club matches. And during international breaks I watch national team matches across different continents.

What most of us here don't understand is the national team setting is usually different from club settings. Club coaches find it convenient staying with coaching of clubs while national team coaches find it convenient coaching the national teams.

Look at the way national teams play and look at the way clubs play. Dont you notice any difference in the approaches?

With clubs a coach can come up with any form of tactics and go out in search of players they feel can fit into such tactics but for the national team you are only limited to the players you have. You cannot buy a ready made player to come and play for you.

National teams are set up such that if you don't win don't lose because the chances to redeem yourself after losing a game are so few. The WC is held every 4years. Unlike Clubs that play weekly at times twice a week. You get whipped on Wednesday you have another competition on Saturday to correct your wrongs.

National team tactics are mostly conservative!

Watch how national teams play and Watch how clubs play and you will understand. You now wonder why so many AFCON and WC group games end in draws. And penalty shoot-outs at knock out stages.
Yes, football is dynamic and has evolved over time but the national teams would always adopt the safest approach. You are citing cases of Real Madrid do we have the kind of quality those clubs have?

To your point, you are saying we should gift them the midfield and follow the wings. I hope you don't see the midfield as only the center circle. For your information, part of the wings are also part of the midfield. When you lose possession of the midfield how will you get the balls across to the wingers?

Hold on to your beliefs and let me hold on to mine. No one gets a trophy for winning any arguments here. But once again try remain civil in your comments.

Yes, I could've won with that Inter team, given all the assistance they received in the game against Barca (read my previous post).
As per Porto, I have one word for you - the old Trafford scandal. Like I said, Jose Mourinho has always won by either having the best collection of players or by being "lucky". And I stand by that statement.

A good coach is someone who improves his squad - check out coaches like Rafa Benitez, Jurgen Klopp, etc. Mourihno is yet to demonstrate that he's capable of doing that. In fact, he's actually the opposite ... great talents come to die with him:
- Robben
- Mikel
- Lukaku
- Kevin DeBryune
- Mephis Depay
- Mo Salah
- Paul Pogba
- Juan Mata

Oh please! It makes me mad anytime I hear that that Inter Milan team didn't have star players. Here are a few:

Julio Cesar - considered the best goalkeeper in the world at that time
Maicon - considered the best right back in the world at that time
Esteban Cambiasso - world class midfielder
Wesley Sneijder - world class midfielder
Diego Milito - world class striker
Samuel Eto’o - world class midfielder

Just to mention but a few. And I am leaving out other world class players like: Lucio, Zanetti, Walter Samuels, Materazzi etc.

And in addition, that team won with of both the refs and the the help of a volcanic ash cloud. First Barca was denied a clear penalty in the first leg and then have a good goal dubiously ruled out in the return leg. And don't forgot that the game itself was supposed to be postponed due to a volcanic ash cloud in Western Europe at that time, but Barca was told at the last minute that the game was still on and had to travel to Italy by bus! A team like Real Madrid would never have accepted that decision but Barca never complains.

And don't even get me started on how he won with Porto either.
