Yea, that's the problem. And I don't think that we'll have the technical discipline to play 3-4-3 either. Anyway, we'll need to watch Ebuehi and Idowu a few more times to decide if they are legit wing backs.

All in all, I think we're frontloaded in certain positions (DM/CM/AM) and drastically lacking in some areas (goalkeeping, CF) sad

O pari

On the formation Rohr wants to adopt, let's see the next few friendlies first.

And I still insist that if Rohr wants to fully adopt the 3-5-2 it means a good number of our Full backs and wingers would be surplus to requirements.

Yea, personally, I would prefer to have him as a LWF instead of Simon Moses. He may lack Simon's speed and trickery but he provides a better scoring threat than Simon and he'll provide better defensive cover as well. On current SE form, I think Ndidi and Onazi already have the DM positions under lock for now.

I think Rohr would play 3-5-2 in Russia ... at least, against Croatia and Argentina. For some reasons, I think Rohr likes Awazien and he would like to make him a starter. In addition, I think it would make sense to play with two DMs against stronger teams like Croatia and Argentina.

O pari

TheSuperNerd:
Good.... CM (box-to-box) is one of Etebo's best two positions. The other is LM.

You are right that he is not in direct competition with Onazi. But the thing is this. If Mikel and Ndidi are sure starters, then the other third midfield slot (depending on the formation we play) will fall to one of Onazi, Etebo or Ogu.

If Etebo is picked, it means Ndidi plays DM, while Etebo plays CM.

If Onazi is picked, it means Onazi plays DM while Ndidi plays CM.

If Ogu is picked, it means we get to see how they both played against Argentina with Mikel. wink

It all boils down to Tactics and formation chosen. But in the end, people must remember that Onazi is assistant Super Eagles Captain and is a favorite to start games too.

Our starting WC midfield is still likely to be Mikel-Ndidi-Onazi. Changes will be subject to tactical tweaks and more. Time will tell.

And he can even play from the flanks, as a SS. Remember what he did against Japan in Brazil. The guy is a very versatile player. I even like him as a an old fashioned CM (box to box midfielder). But I just don't think that the DM is his favorite position.

I think Etebo's best position is that deep midfield role. He is not creative enough to be a 10. I think, he will do well playing alongside Ndidi.

Forget the U-23, that's too far back. Just check him out in the recent world cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo - the first leg. Victor Moses, Leon Balogun and Etebo were out best players. The problem with Nigerian fans is that once a player has one bad game, they would write him off completely. And then once he has another good game, everyone would jump back into his bandwagon.

... very fickle fans.

O pari

Truidstar:
Will never forget how he single handedly destroyed Algeria in the final of the U23 African Championship Olympic qualifier. That's the Etebo we are yearning for. Even if he does not fit, there will be a match or two that he will turn up when others don't. Remember Semifinals of France 98, Zidane, Thierry Henry and Patrick Veira did not do so well that day, a defender Lilian Thuram showed up with 2 goals and got them to the final.

Bros, don't mind them. With Nigerians, it's always a zero sum game: if one player is doing well then the other player gotta lose. Why can't we just praise God that our boys are doing well and just leave it at that? Must everything be turned into this useless rat race of who's in who's outhuh

And in addition, Etebo isn't even a direct opposition to Onazi either. Eddy Onazi is DM. Although Etebo is a utility player who can play most positions on the pitch, his favorite position is AM. Hence, this head to head comparison is uncalled for. Bottom line, I see both of them making the team.

Take it from someone who knows, Onazi is gonna make the team even if ends up sitting on the bench. Do you know why? First, Onazi is the vice captain. Secondly and most importantly, Onazi is important for the locker room. If you watch most Super Eagles locker room clips, you'll see players like Onazi and Kelechi leading the chants ... such players are leaders and they are very important for the locker room. Most coaches would make room for players like them purely for their leadership qualities even if they are not good enough to start; especially taking cognizance of the fact that your skipper, Mikel, is very reserved and quiet.

As regards to Etebo, like I have said several times before, he's gonna make the team because he's a utility player. You need such players on the bench.

O pari

Kog45:
I thought Etebo was a super regular in Portuguese league before moving to Spanish league but still find it difficult to break into Eagles starting eleven despite Onazi indifferent form in Turkish league.

It seems Rohr rate Onazi highly cos if we want to go by club performance Onazi shouldn't have been making eagles starting eleven.

Sometimes only coach can tell us why his preference for some players and i will not deceive you player like Mikel ObiMoses,Ndidi,Balogun, Ekong,Onazi,Ighalo,Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi,no matter their form at their club,it would be hard for Rohr to drop them to the bench unless they failed to impress in eagles colour.

Etebo just need to work hard to make the team not even Onazi cos Onazi is a trusted boy and has never failed Rohr in eagles colour though not good not to be playing regularly cos it affects.

So I do err because I do not know the scripture, eh? OK then, maybe I don't know the scripture. But please do know that the scriptures you cited, some of them out of context I might add, do not in any way, shape or form justify the love of money that you are trying to defend.

Deut. 8:18 - To get the context, you gotta start from verse 16. Here's the full quotes IN CONTEXT:

He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. (Deut 8: 16-18).

So tell me, how could you use the above citation to justify the accumulation of wealth we see amongst some pastors today?

2 Corin. 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, though He was rich, but for your sake became poor, so that you may become rich.

Again, this citation stated that Jesus Christ was rich (and yes, he was because he created everything in Heaven and on earth), but I am clueless how this verse justifies the accumulation of wealth? If anything, it actually taught against such behavior. If we are followers of Jesus then we should emulate him ... even when we are "rich", we should try to become poor by using our wealth to serve others and assist the poor and not by buying private jets that we don't need.

2 Corin. 9:11 You, who have been enriched in all things.

Again, it beats me how the above scripture justifies accumulation of wealth!

3John2 I wish you above all things that thou may be prospereth and in good health

Again, the apostle John said 'I wish above all things that you prosper even as your soul prospers'. Again, this scripture in no way justifies accumulation of wealth. The emphasis is on the prosperity of the soul. And in addition, scriptural prosperity doesn't always speaks to material prosperity.

You are quoting a verse you do not understand.
The love of money is a sin, agreed. But the *having of it is not.

Deut. 8:18, for I'm your God who giveth thee power to make WEALTH

2 Corin. 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, though He was rich, but for your sake became poor, so that you may become rich

2 Corin. 9:11 You, who have been enriched in all things.

3John2 I wish you above all things that thou may be prospereth and in good health

All scriptures paraphrased.

You don't know half of the scripture these men know and you are neither hearing nor close to God than them for God's sake

Now, ask yourself, how many phone did Jesus use, so you good disciple of Jesus, why are you using phone.
Bro, pray to God to bless you. Jesus did not call anyone to be poor. You can't be praying to be rich while expecting men of God to be poor.

Nerdie, no one is doubting Uduokahi's quality. You don't play CB in Bundesliga without being a top quality player. But that's not the point tho.

The million dollar question is, does he want to play for us? Is he willing to commit to us? If the young man has committed to us then case closed, he should get an invite asap. He's better, or at least on par, with any one of our Center Backs right now.

O pari

TheSuperNerd:
Come on guys... chillax... cheesy The German national team got lots of quality in their defence. Check these out,

Nicklas Sulé, Antonio Rudiger, Willi Orban, Mathias Ginter, Skodran Mustafi, Jonathan Tah.... etc are all quality CB options for Germany.

The first choice CBs are Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels.

Now ask yourself... compared to our own defensive options, does Uduokahi's quality stand a chance of breaking in ahead of even Rudiger, Sulé, Tah or Mustafi??!!! That is four bad-ass options here and there is still Hummels and Boateng at the very top of the pile... Holy Moses!!!! shocked

Nigeria boasts of only Balogun, Ekong, Awaziem and Omeruo as Fine Quality... who else do we have as Fine quality? Efe Ambrose?? Uche Agbo? Abeg who? Do you see the issue here?

So Felix Uduokahi's inability to break into the Germany squad will not be based on his potentials, quality or abilty because those are not in doubt. It will rather be based on the guys already ahead of him who also boast similar potentials and abilities like him. Guys like Tah, Sulé, and co for instance.

So biko... let us not use that "let him break into Germany squad first if he is that good" mentality to rate him because truth is even our own Awaziem will not find it funny breaking into that same German side.

That is all I wanna say to set matters straight here. Uduokhai is a top quality young CB and that cannot be taken away from him. Period.

I agree with the asterisk. I have never been a big fan of Simon Moses. I have never been impressed with his football IQ, so to say. But he works hard.
Jude Odion Ighalo. Again, I am not a big fan, but he seems to be the only out and out striker we have in the team right now. And in addition, Rohr seems to like big and strong target men.
John Ogu - I agree. he doesn't have it in the bag yet. But I think he did himself a big favor on his two last outings.
Etebo - Again, I agree. He really went down the perking order with the stinker he had in our last game against Algeria; but I still believe in him. He was arguably our best player in the game against Algeria in Uyo. And I think Rohr would strongly consider him because he's one of the few utility players we have in the team.

Barring any unforeseen circumstance, the Group A players are definitely going to Russia:

Group A
1. Victor Moses
2. Obi Mikel
3. Wilfred Ndidi
4. Kelechi Iheanacho (will definitely make the team. Aside from being one of our best strikers, he's also great for team unity)
5. Alex Iwobi
6. Eddy Onazi
7. Leon Balogun
8. Troost Ekong
9. Moses Simon
10. Chidozie Awaziem
11. Shehu Abdullahi
12. Odion Ighalo
13. John Ogu
14. Oghenekaro Etebo (likely to make it because he's a utility player)

Group B - Very likely to make the list - 90% chance
1. Brian Idowu
2. Tyronne Ebuehi
3. Ahmed Musa
5. Kenneth Omeruo
6. Francis Uzoho
7. Mikel Agu
8. Ola Aina
9. Elderson Echiejile (his experience might help him make team, if Aina fails to excel)
10. Joel Obi (most likely to make team if fully fit)
11. Ikechukwu Ezenwa

Group C - still on the outside looking in - less than 50% chance:
1. Anthony Nwakaeme
2. Olarenwaju Kayode
3. Henry Onyekuru
4. Sarenren Bazee
5. Isaac Success (supposed to be in group B but his attitude might cost him)
6. Dele Alampasu
7. Ajiboye (the new CHAN guy. Having seen him play though but I wanna go by all the commentaries here and elsewhere)

Good point. Except for certain positions where we still lack quality (goalkeeper in particular), I don't see Rohr making any drastic changes to the current squad. In fact, it would take a clear outstanding performance for any player, currently on the outside, to displace a member of the current team.

Let me put it this way: 85-90 percent of the team is already set, so we're only talking about less than 15% (3 or 4 new additions max).
