Thank you very much, my broad!

That and also know the limits of our discussions here. Sometimes some of us act like once we can win the argument here, that it would change something in the team. Frankly, I don't think that Rohr would come to NL web forum to gauge our temperature before making his team selections or before inviting people to the camp. I mean, I don't see Rohr going "hmm ... these fans think that John Ogu is better than Mikel Agu, so next time I would play Ogu instead of Agu."

I know you get the gist!

O pari

Mujtahida:
Baba Icon4s I enjoy it when tactics is discussed. Infact prior to my time on this thread I knew nothing about football tactically speaking but because of this thread I've learnt a thing or two on tactics: I've learnt about pressing(thanks to the goodjoe) double pivot, I understand the various positions better. I appreciate the tactical insights of you and Mickael2.
However I understand what Icon79 is saying. He is saying we should not be presumptuous while discussing tactics, we should not talk like we know better than the coach regarding the players because I doubt if we do(surely we know but I don't think we know MORE than the coach).

Oh, you're in UK. Now I can understand your love for the EPL based players grin

Anyway, like I said, I wasn't trying to make Rohr infallible. As a matter of fact, I don't even think he's a great coach to be quite honest with you. However, I can give him credit that he does his homework. One problem I have about most of our home-based coaches is that they tend to be lazy. If I tell you what I saw during our 2014 World Cup preparation, you'll cry. The whole preparation (the whole US camping) was an eyesore.

O pari

komekn:
The problem we have us what makes a good coach, is such a hard question to answer.

Winninghuh
Long term stability and structured delivery and consistencyhuh
Player development present and future.huh
Team strategy and Managementhuh
Fair-Play, integrity, respect and honour.

You have people like Allardyce, Dyche, Moyes who are not technically astute but practically effective. Hardly develop or improve player's by can seemingly create consistency within that delivery framework.

Outside of Wenger my best preferred Manager in the EPL is Chris Houghton. He ticks Al the boxes for me.

In my opinion knowledge counts for more than experience, it's the effective application of knowledge that is wisdom indeed.

You may find it hard to believe at the beginning of the season, I had a EPL club head of video analysis. Consider my player make an objective recommendation but the head of recruitment aligned with the Chairman over ruled him. Manager could not do anything. What I'm saying video analysis is not as conclusive as you may think.

Playing in the Norwegian league is not the same thing as playing in the EPL. So how do you judge qualityhuh

And not all of us judge players from the TV you are being presumptuous. I am sitting in my car keeping warm. Before I venture into the cold to watch a training session at a EPL club in the next 5 minutes.

O pari

Icon4s:
Just a little hint. Some of us here have coaching certificates.

I am not bragging, I can plan and execute our tactics against Argentina if I am made to tutor the team for that game.

Those coaches are not super humans.

People should be free to discuss tactics here. It is our passion. And since it is our passion please don't hinder us.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 6:30pm On Nov 08, 2017
Baba Icon, I think you guys totally misunderstand where I was coming from. I wasn't trying to imply that we cease and desist from discussing tactics. No, not at all. That's what we're here for .... pundits, critics, analysts, you name it.

I was merely trying to bring order to the house by highlighting the limit of our influence, if you will. Listen, I hope that we've actually a level where we can influence the list of players the NFF would invite to camp but, no, I don't think so. Hence, it bothers me when I see guys almost getting into fist fights over players .... because even if every one of us agree (as in the case of Joel Obi) that a particular player merits an invite, it still wouldn't change the calculations of Gernot Rohr and his employers (NFF). Anyway, that's exactly what I was trying to say.

O pari

Icon4s:
Go also to those EPL and UCL pre-match analysts that watch from the studio screens and tell them to stop analysing tactics as they don't know better than the coaches on the field.

That aside, I have done extensive research on Homo sexuality, and I realized that outside of Earth, there are Extra Terrestrial races of Beings, some highly spiritual, who prefer homosexuality to straight intercourse, some ETs races have up to 5 gender types which our 5 limited senses can not even begin to put into words. Yet some have both male and female gender on one body, even as some do not have sex to experience orgasm.

Yes, Rohr was totally outcoached by Stuart Baxter but I still think that he's got more resources at his disposal (coaching experience, playing experience, video analyst, assistant coaches, taking them thru drills etc etc) than most of us here in the forum.

Again, like I explained to Icon4s, I wasn't trying to say that nobody should question Rohr or that we shouldn't engage in discussing tactics and techniques. However, I was just asking our members to tone it down a bit. The people who are doing the job are no fools .... they people understand most of these things better than most of us.

Bro, I think it's presumptuous of you to assume that you'll understand the current Super Eagles team, based solely on watching some of these players on TV, better than Gernot Rohr who has trained them, interacted with them, watch them play and video analyzed their games over the past several months. Here's one thing you'd understand: watching the game on television is dramatically different from watching it live. In addition, coach Rohr has a video analyst who helps him breakdown each player's game - frame by frame. Talking from experience, it would open your eyes when a coach goes over your game frame by frame.

And if you think that experience doesn't count when it comes to coaching then I really don't know what else to say. Yes, Jose Mourinho may had dabbled into coaching with zero experience (if that's the case), but that's the exception NOT the rule. Not many of us here is Mourinho.

O pari

komekn:
How do you know thathuh

And so whathuh You are making assumption upon assumption garnished with more presumptuous deductions underpinned with nothing but fresh air.

Mourinho was a Translator in Barcelona when Rohr was coaching, possibly Pep wasn't born when Rohr was involved in football. But who is Rohr comparedto them now. Indeed in the scheme of world football management where would Rohr be ranked despite his Methusela experience.

Because you played football doesn't mean you will.be a great coach and or manager.

If Rohr wanted to Manage a league one team in England would he even be considered.

Some of the players some of us know up close and personal too. Rohr sees them for a few weeks at a time. What about coaches and team that work with them week in week out for years.

So talk for yourself and nobody else.

grin grin grin Sir Icon, actually, I don't have any problem with debating tactics and player selections as long as it's done within reason. My only concern is that some of us often go overboard and even take stuff too personal .... forgetting that this is only a fan site.

Take for instance, before the game against Zambia I discussed my probably line up and analyzed why I would start Iheanacho (in place of Ighalo), Iwobi (in place of Moses Simon) and Etebo in place of Ndidi (and then move Ndidi to DM in place of Onazi). And to this day I believe that we could've performed better if the team had started with the aforementioned players; however, you won't see me getting all emotional and try to assume that I know better than the coaches.

That's the point I was tryna make.

Guys, can we just leave the technical decisions to the guys who are paid to make those decisions. Here's why:

1. Gernot Rohr played the game at a higher level than any one of us here
2. Gernot Rohr had coached the game at a higher than anyone of us
3. I stand corrected but Rohr and his crew can read the game better than everyone of us here
4. Gernot Rohr knows these players better than everyone of us because he trains them and have watched them up, close, and personal.

I agree with you that the patriotism card isn't gonna fly, especially with players who were not even born in Nigeria. We need to engage these players and try to convince them that it's in their best interest to chose Nigeria. That's why I am 100% in agreement with Mujtahida that the NFF needs a dedicated team to engage these players and convince them to play for Nigeria.

O pari

Joebie:
Conversely, Ameobi.
Why didn't he turn down England for Nigeria when England weren't making any moves?
Their heart is with both countries, not necessarily 50-50, with each player and their own unique situation.
I wasn't lashing out at Alaba. I was only saying almost all of them are in the same boat. Let's not speak of patriotism like if we were presented with two passports. That of the UK/Australia/US etc, and our Nigerian passport, and we were asked to burn one, we will save our Nigerian passport. Most Nigerians will burn their Nigerian passports. It's a personal decision based on what the decision will bring us. Austria no near Nigeria when we talking football. So let's go back to the bigger nations in football. Most of them if asked to pick between Nigeria and the other country, Nigeria will be their second choice.
let's not try to group some and castigate them. Of course some will get lashed at based on their utterances.

Just today Tammy fell on England's trap again. Tomorrow IF he is forced to reconsider Nigeria, he will have to answer many questions from the Nigerian public. Even his "uncle" Pinnick may not be able to save him.

Bro, when I was in college, I was the General Secretary of the African Students Association in my school. And anytime I see an African student, I do not wait for them to join us or to "declare an interest"; rather I will pursue them like a biatch until I get their commitment. Oh my, I was even able to get some Afro Americans and Afro Caribbean to join us.

That's how you do stuff like that .... you engage them. And it starts by building a relationship as well. But once they make their decisions a la Tammy Abraham, you leave them alone and move on.

O pari

Mujtahida:
icon79 I know you are in the U.S. So you can speak out of experience. Do you think we should wait for sportsmen of Nigerian origin or descent to indicate their interest to represent us or we should also approach and engage them(as in those who do not come out to declare for us voluntarily). Mind you I am not saying we should not wait for voluntary declarations. I am only saying that cannot be the only approach
