Bia, Big Joe, did somebody hack into your account? Did you really expect him to turn down Austria even when Nigeria wasn't making any moves? Yes, he was just 17 but opportunity and time wait for no one. Who's knows if that might be the only opportunity he might have?

Listen, the people we have issues with are those of them we turned down Nigeria because they want to wait for another country. As far as I know, Alaba never turned down Nigeria .... Austria came calling first and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, as he should.

O pari

Joebie:
Patriotism is an illusion. Today he is giving more than 100% to Austria.
If he felt so Nigerian as you want to believe, why didn't he wait? He was just 17.

Modified
It was said it was told to him then that we were focussing on homegrown players for our cadet teams. That should have giving hope for Super Eagles in the future. If he was so patriotic about Nigeria as you guys want to believe, why didn't he act like Shola Ameobi?

And did Ameobi later play for Nigeria? Why did he not die waiting to be called up by England because of patriotism? In all, Nigeria will ALMOST always be a second choice if they are afforded the opportunity both ways.

Tell me about it, bro! They fired Slaven Bilic only to replace him with David Moyes, a man hasn't managed any team successfully since he left Everton several years ago. Talk about a bizarre decision!

The decision some of these football clubs make sometimes makes me wonder whether they just like to waste money. Take Crystal Palace for instance, they hired Frank de Boer, a coached who failed woefully at AC Milan! And to add insult to injury, they didn't even have the patience to give him enough time to work with the team. They fired him after 4 games or so .... and who did they replace him with? Roy Hodgson, a man failed spectacularly with England!

In fact, I hope both teams go down angry

SportsRe: David Moyes Appointed Manager Of West Ham by Icon79(m):
Having watched the game on Saturday, as a Barca/Chelsea fan, the West Ham players should hang their heads in shame. They let their manager and fans down massively. Being in poor form happens, but the complete lack of effort is unforgivable. When Milner is outsprinting Kouyate, you know the team's just going through the motions. Bilic is well out of it.

Whether the sacking is justified or not, it's such a weird scenario where the manager of a team is the only individual to be sacked. The players, those who are the direct cause of the failure, stay on and continue to get paid. The new manager (quite often sacked multiple times at other clubs) comes in, to variable success. To get sacked when the players fail again.

Only in football.

So what have you done to remedy the situation, ma'amhuh

O pari

MissEdified:
Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun has revealed that more than 800,000 companies in Nigeria, including government contractors, have never paid any taxes.

In a statement, she also said that only 14 million Nigerians, out of an economically active base of 70 million, paid taxes.

Of the 14 million, more than 95% were salary earners in the formal sector, but only 241 people paid personal income taxes amounting to about $65,500 (£50,000) in 2016, Ms Adeosun said.

There was "systematic tax evasion at all levels", and the government planned to step up efforts to increase tax collection, she added.

This would help reduce government reliance on oil revenue, Ms Adeosun said.

Watford striker 'quits booze' -Report

Watford striker Isaac Success has reportedly stopped drinking alcohol as he battles his way back to full fitness following surgery.

The Nigerian international, who underwent surgery to repair a knee injury ‎earlier in Barcelona recently, faces at least two months out.

Success has failed to live up to his lofty price-tag since his move from Granada, and a recent alleged run-in with four commercial sex workers at a Hertfordshire hotel saw him reminded of his obligations to the club by boss Marco Silva.

However, the player's intermediary has told a Nigerian website that Success will be a new man when he gets back to the Watford line-up.

”He (Success) has quit drinking even before the surgery, Success has queried himself and upon his return fans of Watford will see a brand new fit and hungry forward in him," his intermediary told Owngoalnigeria.com.

"Success will be like a new signing for Watford upon his return. He is heavily focused and working hard to prove those who have always believe in him. In the next one month when he returns you will see what am talking about."

FACT: our players are better (and in many cases much better) than the league and/or the teams they play for.

Can you tell me that Shehu Abdullahi is not good enough to be playing in one of the better Euro leagues than Cyprus?
Are you telling me that Leon Balogun is not good enough to be starting for Mainz 05?
Are you telling me that Alex Iwobi isn't good enough to be starting for Arsenal?
Can you objectively tell me how a player of Kelechi's quality can't start for Leicester City?
Can you tell me that Simon Moses isn't too good to be playing for a mediocre side like KAA Gent?
Can you boldly claim that Oghenekaro Etebo shouldn't be playing for a better team than CD Feirense?

And I can go on and on and on .... but I think you've got the message.

Bottom line, our players are underrated and undervalued.

O pari

komekn:
This is a repeat comment but felt I should respond more directly than indirectly.

True quality and ability are not determined by one game, even more so in cup competitions. But with consistent, continous top quality performances over a period.

In this regard I disagree whith what you wish to proferr as being a good objective rational for quality players selection. In other words you are essentially proposing to create a new set of performance measuring standards for Nigerian players in Europe separate from any other ability measurements.

That's being openly biased and an attempt to enthrone mediocrity over quality. It will never help our players. They need to understand the quality parameters and professionalism required and attain them not avoid them. You would be setting up players in European football leagues to fail. And then be honoured for failing in European football in my opinion ludicrous.

Shockingly quite a few people seem to agree with you. I am not sure if by sentiment or by objectivity.

I will use a reference of last seasons FA cup with Sutton United FC who play in the national Vanarama league. Sutton Played against league 2 Cheltenham United, League 1 AFC Wimbledon League 1 and Leeds United championship and beat all three teams then finally loosing to a full strength Arsenal 2-0.

Sutton were not promoted to League 2 and remained mid table in the Vanarama national league.

How many of thier players progressed thier best player Deacon moved to Dundee United and that's about it.

It's the continous consistent top quality performances that determine true quality of a top team and player. Not flash in the pan one off outstanding. performances or one hit wonders.

So having one good game is indicative but very far from being conclusive of top quality. One game doesn't determine your season but the sum total of games played over a season.

We are ranked 41 and Germany, Brazil, Portugal Argentina, Belguim. 1,2,3,4, 5 respectively it's not by mistake.

I will point out although Belguim league is ranked near 10 far from top quality. The bulk of thier players do not play in it, at a guess probably most from the EPL. Indeed all these top ranked teams will have quite a few players from the EPL. It's about picking quality players from the best teams and best leagues. With very few if any exceptions.
