Omo, he came on but it wasn't to play Mikel's role. Mikel Agu was already playing that role. So don't put the collapse on Etebo yet .... if you carefully analyze his game, you'll realize that he has the skill sets to play the playmaker role. Trust me on that one, some of us had played (and coached) this game to a pretty decent levels. O pari TheGoodJoe: Etebo!?
The same one that came in today and still could not solve the problem. The same one who could not orchestrate the midfield in the match against South Africa. Or are you talking of another Etebo? |

Thank you, bro. You just spoke my mind. I think the best replacement for Mikel would be Etebo. He may not have all of Mikel's defensive abilities but he's got the playmaking skills and the high work rate. I will definitely anoint him for the Mikel role. O pari Icon4s: Which negative play? You think we are Spain or Germany?
You play against Cameroon in Yaounde and expect to dominate them for 90mins? More so when they are at the verge of crashing out of the WC qualifiers? You think you can attack in a game like this for 90mins?
BTW go look at the starts and tell me who had more shots on goal and on target.
Nigeria was the better side overall in this particular game.
Talking about possible replacement for Mikel. K. Nwakali has not done enough IMO to merit a call-up.
Alex Iwobi IMO looks more like a player that is more ready to suit that purpose. Etebo too is available.
Talking about Mikel Agu, the way some of you hype players here sef. He was even worse in today's game than the last. |

Folks, that wasn't a penalty. It was two players going for the ball and coming together. There was no deliberate attempt to foul the player by the goalkeeper. And Ezenwa has the rights to go for that ball.
FIFA needs to find out why Cameroun is always gifted a dodgy penalty each time they play at home. Against Zambia, they were given a dodgy penalty as well to help them equalize.

If we lose today's game, it wouldn't make too much of a difference to be quite honest with you. We'd still need to beat Zambia next month to ensure qualification, assuming Zambia were to get a result against Algeria. Because even if we're to beat Cameroon today and Zambia manages to beat Algeria, then we'll still need to beat Zambia or, at least, secure a draw against them next month. Our best option is to beat Cameroun today and hope that Zambia loses or draws against Algeria. O pari MaziOmenuko: Zambia on our trail with 4pts. They will have 7pts if they win Algeria this week. So if we lose here, we are back to permutation and combination again. |

I don't expect Zambia to win in Constantine either but, I think, that because Algeria would be playing for pride. However, I don't think that the weather at Constantine would be freezing at this time of the year. We're the people who would get the brutal temperature ... the corrupt officials at FIFA knew what they were doing when they arranged those schedules. And if we qualify, watch out how we would be sentenced into the group of death. Mark my words! O pari Dedebanky85: Finally, I have watched the Cameroon game four times as I write. My takings: 1) Onazi is grossly underrated by Nigerian fans. His all action style and hustle is unmatched. I mean, this guy was chancing the bigger Cameroonians. While Mikel was on the pitch he made sure to release the ball on time to Mikel. 2) If Cameroon decide that because they are home they want to rush Nigeria, they may even lose worse than they did at Uyo. Infact, if I were Broos I'd tell my players to be patient just as they always were at AFCON and CONFEDS. I don't know why they decided to rush Nigeria. 3) After South Africa, Nigeria is the next best counter attacking team in Africa. I would have said we are the best, but SA has mastered that act so perfectly. 4) Although, it's a heart warming news to hear that Aina has been cleared, I won't touch that team except for injuries.
I expect us to qualify in Yauonde with a win cos I don't really see Zambia winning in Constantine due to the deep-freezing cold. |

But let's even look at the worst case scenario. What if Zambia beats Algeria and Nigeria loses to Cameroon. What happens?

He definitely staked his claims today. He appears calm and confident in the post unlike Akpeyi. And he doesn't flap his crosses like Akpeyi either. I rate him much higher. O pari TheSuperNerd: Lol... about Ezenwa's height... He is not short... Ezenwa is about 5ft 11 or so... will confirm that later shaa....
I know Goalies are generally expected to be "long" not tall.... with heights of 6ft 2in and above (in basketball, it is generally higher sef... lol)... but as a scientist, I consider tall for anyone who has a height of 5ft 10 and above for guys and 5ft 8 and above for Ladies.... |

Shebi I told y'all that Ezenwa is gonna do well. I reached that conclusion after watching him against Benin Republic in CHAN qualifiers. Makes me wonder why Akpeyi was even preferred ahead of him. The only reason I could reach is the technical crew was concerned about Ezenwa's height. O pari TheSuperNerd: Ikechukwu Ezenwa:
With a game high 16 recoveries... his calm and composure between the sticks and on the couple of occasions he was called upon to challenge for an aerial ball and stop a strike from Anguissa and a "twistingly" curling effort from Fai made Ezenwa have a WC qualifying debut to remember.
His confidence and Composure were his biggest selling point today. He did have a funny moment when he wanted to act Manuel Neuer... lolll... he fooled the Camerounian no.9 striker Aboubakar (In Jersey no.10) and then kicked the ball long and upfield... it was a risk... a risk he was happy and confident enough to take.
Now I am not saying he is the best but I certainly preferred his calm and confidence and handling of aerial duels compared to the Experienced but shaky Akpeyi.... Ezenwa did so well. And he can only get better.
He has come a long way from being first choice of that Enterprising young Ocean Boys FC team that conquered Nigeria in 2008.. a team that had Blessing Okardi. Ezenwa can only get better like fine wine...
Well done Super Eagle Ezenwa.... |
