This line up is actually better than the one released by owngoal or who. I mean, the only change is Etebo for Onazi, but that's huge. It makes a lot of difference, because now it shows that Mikel would play more defensive work along with Ndidi, while Etebo gets a free role to bump forward. I definitely wanna see Etebo in the line up due to his high work rate ... that's what we need in this game - outwork the Camerouns. True. If we win today's game then we have better than 75% chances of qualifying, even if we lose in Yaoundé. Today's game is arguably the most important game of the 2018 WC qualification, as far as the Super Eagles is concerned. O pari Icon4s: Depend on the NFF at your own peril.
Such a shameful show of inefficiency.
Even if Aina is not cleared for this clash the NFF would be more under intense pressure to secure his clearance before the Zambia game.

Sometimes I wonder whether Nigeria is accursed or something. However, go write it down, if we don't get results (2 points at a minimum) from these 2 games, I will carry out a 1 man protest in front of the glasshouse until someone loses his or her job. This level of incompetence (abi na corruption) is totally unacceptable. O pari komekn: This behaviour has been ongoing for donkey years.
You know in the Nigerian context you can not rule out subterfuge, this is a crucial game we have known about this for months. So it seems wilful neglect and omission.
Years ago there was a AFCON game and two players from the UK were assured that their flights had been booked all arrangements completed. Only to arrive to Gatwick, no flight nuttin, the rumour had been put out that they had refused to turn up. They were on good £££ so they simply hired a private jet for £20k+ to get to camp, on arrival they discovered NFF officials were already lining up their preferred replacement.

The NFF is a disgrace! These folks just can do ANYTHING right....not even once! Not even if their lives depends on it! And by the way, if he isn't cleared by COB today, what give them the idea that he would be cleared by Monday? I am not sure whether FIFA works on weekend. O pari blueto: How Delay By FGN Stopped Ola Aina From Making Super Eagles Debut Against Cameroon
Former England youth international Ola Aina won’t be making his senior national team debut for Nigeria when they take on Cameroon today in the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers.
Aina has been in the camp of the Super Eagles ahead of the game against Cameroon in Uyo, despite his international clearance which will make him eligible for Nigeria still pending.
As revealed by coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr his clearance is currently been held up by a document demanded by FIFA before his switch can be made official.
FIFA wants the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to communicate to them in writing confirming Aina is a Nigerian before he can be cleared to play for Nigeria against Cameroon.
However the letter from the FGN didn’t get to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on time, hence they couldn't forward to FIFA which means time wasn’t enough for the Players Status Committee of FIFA to sanction his switch.
The NFF, Rohr and Aina are however hopeful that he will be cleared before the return leg tie against Cameroon on Monday in Yaounde, leaving the coach with no option than to stick with Shehu Abdullahi at right back.

Bro, I took the game against SA as an aberration. Practically all our players had a poor game. Hence, I will give Ndidi another chance today to show me the same Ndidi I see on Leicester shirt. And most importantly, this is Gernot Rohr's chance to show Nigerians how good he really is. Granted that he didn't have enough time to work with the team but he has had several opportunities to see this Cameroun team: up close, so there would be no excuses if he comes up with the wrong tactics today. O pari blueto: @bolded, How many impacts did he make from venturing forward against South Africa? Mikel made huge impacts against Zambia and Algeria in that position and he still remains a better attacking midfielder than Ndidi so he should feature in that role. |

Bro, I have called out the NFF on twitter regarding the ongoing Aina's clearance scandal. Somebody have to lose his/her job if Nigeria doesn't get result from these two games. This issue has been going on for months now and they knew that we have two crucial games in Sept., yet these incompetent folks still can't get their acts together. Sad! I totally agree with you on Simon. His game seriously lacks end products. I would've definitely preferred to see Etebo in that position. To me, Simon to play better as a super sub. As per the highlighted, I definitely hope that Ighalo can use this as a statement game because he hasn't impressed me on green and white. One thing I like about KC is his ability to get himself in good position to score. O pari komekn: Firstly, I can not believe the NFF did not arrange Aina's clearance they have had months to do that, that is sheer incompetence.
With the line up , I have one issue its Simon he lacks football intelligence and composure for me.
Ighalo upfront brings a lot more to the table as a true No.9 , KC lacks presence and its not within his ability to pressurise defenders and essentially bully them the way Ighalo can. Furthermore i think Ighalo is hungry and angry with a point to prove. |

Dude, Mikel's best position is DM. If I were the coach, considering the magnitude of this game, I would play Mikel beside Onazi and give Ndidi the freedom to venture forward. As regards to Moses Simon, I would have preferred Etebo in that position. I think Etebo offers more to the team, both defensively and offensively. O pari Slimydude49: I support moses Simon starting.. Well, I am NOT gonna second-guess the coach because he knows his team better than any one of us. However, if I were the coach, I will definitely make two changes to this proposed line up: 1) I will put Onazi on the bench and start a midfield combo of: Ndidi, Etebo, and Mikel. 2) Or I will start Etebo in place of Simeon Moses In addition, I would've like to see Kelechi start ahead of Ighalo but, I guess, Rohr wants to play an out and out striker in that role. However, I think Kelechi offers more in terms of ball handling and providing assists. But, hey, what do I know O pari blueto: Leaked – Rohr Drops Leicester City Star Iheanacho, Etebo From Super Eagles Starting XI
Kelechi Iheanacho is the major casualty in the starting line up of the Super Eagles for today’s World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie against Cameroon in Uyo, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Leaks gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com from their final training session can confirm coach Gernot Rohr has settled for a front three of Moses Simon, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses.
The trio were the attackers the manager spent time with in yesterday’s close door session with emphasis on exploiting the apparent lack of pace in the defence of Cameroon.
Oghenekaro Etebo was also not in the squad that did tactical drills with the coach as vice captain Ogenyi Onazi alongside captain John Obi Mikel are expected to be in the midfield with Wilfred Ndidi.
Here is how they lined up in yesterday’s close door session, which was their final tune up for today’s clash against Cameroon.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa (GK)
Shehu Abdullahi
Elderson Echiejile
William Troost-Ekong
Leon Balogun
Wilfred Ndidi
John Obi Mikel
Ogenyi Onazi
Moses Simon
Victor Moses
Odion Ighalo

But behind this mask of ultra confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism. And I know that because if you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may feel a sense of entitlement — and when you don't receive special treatment, you may become impatient or angry. You may insist on having "the best" of everything — for instance, the best car, athletic club or medical care.... ....At the same time, you have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, vulnerability and humiliation. To feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and try to belittle the other person to make yourself appear superior.... and I can go on and on, but I think you got the point. This is not criticism just facts. If you doubt me, please go meet another psychiatrist. O pari goldfish80: Sorry to say this, but you basically sat behind your screen and typed nonsense. What do they expect when they scheduled the game in Cameroun's backyard. If I were the Lions, I would invade Uyo tomorrow morning sef O pari terzurum5: NFF in the dark over Lions’ plans
’Tana Aiyejina
The Nigeria Football Federation are still in the dark over when the Indomitable Lions will arrive Uyo for their 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles on Friday.
The African champions have kept their travel plans to themselves, with the Nigerian FA uncertain of when they would arrive the country.
“About 50 hours to the match, we still haven’t heard from them (Cameroonians). They previously reached out to us on what they are entitled to on arrival in Nigeria like transportation and security and we told them,” Ademola Olajire, NFF spokesman, said.
“But they haven’t told us when they are coming. We believe that they would probably land on Wednesday night, just to be able to make the official training on Thursday evening. We also believe they will arrive before that time. Some countries do it; they may be coming via a chartered flight.”
However, Olajire added that irrespective of the tricks of the Eagles’ fierce rivals, the federation was banking on the experienced players to subdue the visitors.
“We have players who have the ability, who are tested, have seen it all; players who love to go to war. They will get the job done. Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Aaron Samuel and Odion Ighalo are all back. These are players that can get the job done. There’s also new boy Anthony Nwakaeme, who has been doing very well in Israel. I strongly believe the Eagles are going to subdue the Lions,” Olajire added.

Height is a preference but NOT a requirement for a good goalkeeper. It's the same with Center Backs. All things being equal, a good coach would prefer a taller goalkeeper to man the post but there are many equally important qualities we look for when we evaluate goalkeepers. The trouble with an average Nigerian is that once he learns something new, he would hold tightly onto it as if his life depends on it. I only made a passing reference, on a different thread, that Rohr probably preferred Akpeyi over Ezenwa because of his height advantage; then this Goldenfish dude (or whatever da heck he calls himself) starts parroting it (without any filters) as if that's his ATM card number O pari TheGoodJoe:

On current form, Victor Moses is arguably our best player but he's definitely NOT our best striker. He might have scored two goals against Algeria, but that doesn't make him our best striker. Let's hope that Rohr actually do understand his players and their capabilities. Also does he know that Mikel may lack match fitness? Hopefully, the technical crew are smart enough to make Mikel pass a fitness test before they start him on Friday. And let's hope that they have learned one or two things from our last game. I wasn't impressed with the game against South Africa. Our team was slow, lethargic, and lacked cohesion. They were too slow to react to the ball and didn't move the ball quickly either. Hence, they were unable to create any real chances. You have to move the ball quickly if you want to open up the defence. And this may come as a surprise to most of y'all but I still haven't rated Gernot Rohr as a coach. I think we were just lucky to play a disorganized Algerian team. In fact, since he took over, out best game is the first 70 mins of the match against Zambia. Since then, I have not been impressed because the team hasn't really improved on that performance. Anyway, these two match are gonna be the acid test and I will like Rohr to prove me wrong. O pari blueto: Rohr happy with players’ commitment, admits selection headache
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has expressed contentment over the commitment of his players ahead of the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifying double-header against African champions Cameroon but admitted that he has a Herculean task selecting his starting XI.
Rohr is happy that the Cameroonians are coming at a time the Eagles are fully committed to establishing an unassailable lead in the pool, and on the back of Nigeria having won the last three encounters between both nations at senior level.
“It is a big match and we are fully focused and committed. The players know what it means; they need little or no reminding of how important this match is. I am happy we have almost the full house now and can concentrate on our tactics for the game,” Rohr stated.
On his squad for the encounter, the former Niger gaffer added, “We had all the players in for our first training. It was a good training, everybody was fit, no injuries and now it will be difficult for me to choose the starting XI because everybody wants to play,” he told reporters after the training in Uyo.
“But hopefully after tomorrow’s (Wednesday) training, which will be closed to journalists, I will have in my mind the team to start this important game against Cameroon.”
Rohr is hoping for a win on Friday after key players joined up with the squad on Tuesday.
“Cameroon are the champions of Africa, they did not have an easy Confederations Cup, but they play as a team. They are a good team, we also have a good team and we can beat them. It will be a physical game because Cameroon are very strong physically.
“We had a very young team in our last game (against South Africa in June), an U-23 team, but now we have our experienced players back – our captain (Mikel), our best striker (Victor Moses) and defender (Leon Balogun).”
