@Mowire . Me and my family dont live in the North . All my family members are all living in the North and i dont advise them to depart north and live their investments. This is one Nigeria . Any body is free to depart North but it is impossible for all the ibos to leave north if that will be the case , other tribes will have to go back to their various state of origin including govt civil servant working in other states rather than theirs. It is difficult for one to just one day leave a place he was born , a place he has called home abandoning his business empire . we have a govt whose responsibility is to protect the life and property of her citizenry. The best option is not to encourage people to run away hence BH will be acheiving its aim . Igbos will leave North only when the pseudo country Nigeria stops to exist . Igbos were forced back to be part of this false country against their wish when they opted out. We know that somes tribes would want to see a situation where ibos will abandon their property in north or west and go back empty handed - it is a wishful thinking which will only happen upon disintegration of this country . Besides BH will soon be no more or else there will be war.

This thread is mainly the issue of rocket launcher not yoruba cowardice or igbo cowardice . Igbos have fought war because of the same killing in the past which goes a long way in proving them as brave people . Same killing by fulani/hausa is being suffered by other tribes middle belt and yorubas yet they keep silence about it. who is coward here?

Are we not in one Nigeria? Why are people saying Igbos and Money? leaving the North means you the BH has acheived its objective. Igbos fought to secede from Nigeria having been victims of this slaughter in the past but Nigeria state said no . Can people see why Ighos wanted Biafra? Since Biafra wasnt to be and one Nigeria was survived , how come people are saying igbos should leave the North ? if igbos should leave the north then the hausas should leave east . Where does this lead us as Nigeria ? answer is to divide the country. Igbos should not leave the north . They should stay and fight . It is Nigeria and Nigeria belongs to us all . Igbos have massive investments in the north and else where therefore it is not easy for them to leave north just like that . Is like telling Igbos to leave Lagos because of Killings instead they fight for their livelihood .

Other parts of Nigeria will be doomed if North gets back power. North should not be allowed again to smell power in the near future to right the wrong and balance things. I agree that GEJ had the intention to relinquish power come 2015 but given the way North is going about it and the BOKO killings he has changed his mind and would want North out of power come 2015 by holding on to it or hand over to non core north. If i were in his shoes, i would do same.

Nigerians are in patient. JEG has not spend up to 2 yrs in office and people are already condemning him . It will be right to access his performance after 4 yrs in office. Nigeria has numerous problems hence it is going to take time for meaningful achievement to manifest.

it will be fair and wise for him to be in office for 8 yrs after which a genuine assessment will be conducted .Obj could not fix Nigeria after 8 yrs , Obama is still struggling to fix Us after 3 yrs in Office then how do we expect JEG to fix Nigeria under 2 yrs? .Also in the principal of fairness and equity , some body from South east will take over after JEG . North should wait until power is gone through all 6 regions in Nigeria.

I cant beleive that Nigerians will be pulling their own down ( Ngozi) because of Ethnicity and hatred for Igbos. For christ sake this is the time to put tribalism behind and pray that Ngozi gets this position because it is success for Nigeria, Africa , developing world and the black race . If some of you who are pulling her down due to ethnicity are residing in western world espciually, you will be in a better position to appreciate what is about to happen to the black race ; it gonna be a giant stride and a big milestone if Ngozi gets this post for black race. When supper eagle is playing at the global soccer events , all nigerians cheer and rally around them for a win irrespective of the make up the team ( some times over 70% ibos)in that sense , we all should support Ngozi since she is a Nigerian . Other countries are singing her praises why cant Nigerians too? With this development ,the world will not only see Nigerians as terrorists( BOKO and Muttalab)but also as people who can lighten up the globe and navigate the world in the right direction. Long live Ngozi , Long Live Nigeria and God Bless Nigeria.

@c.fours . i am still maintaining my stance as why yorubas hate igbos to bone marrow citing the real spirit of an igbo man as  shown by Prof Nwosu to Abiola and that spirit is what i am preaching for having seen the write-ups in NL . It is way of alerting you guys to real igbo man spirit .Pointless saying that i have shown my true colours . Abiola and Ojukwu are two different people . We in the east voted for Abiola massively and that is another point you have to take home and stop the hate . To my yorubas friends , i ll still remain true friend to them here until i experience what i am reading in NL .
PoliticsRe: Ikemba Ojukwu Vs M.K.O Abiola: Who Is More Popular In Nigeria? by iconaus: 5:36am On Mar 05, 2012
Who actually conducted the election that Abiola won? An ibo man( Prof Nwosu ) who sacrificed his life and the position to release the  result despite the order from IBB for the result not to be released . This goes a long way to showcase the spirit of an igbo man. If it was a youruba man who was in the position of Prof Nwosu , would he had done similar to an Ibo man in Abiola's shoe? From what i am seeing in this NL, the answer is NO? There u are!  June 12 1993 is too young compared to 1960-1970 that is pivotal to yorubas hatred for Ibos- It is high time yorubas let go and imbibe Prof Nwosu spirit .

This singular attribute or courage from Prof Nwosu  has vindicated Igbos from all the hating accusation from the yorubas . It  showcases  truly the real heart of an Igbo man - Justice to all irrespective of your tribes or race.

Therefore Ojukwu being champion for justice was also seen in Prof Nwosu - both are brothers.

Needless comparing  Abiola and Ojukwu . No basis for comparism.

Just scared of this hate amongst the two tribes . Over here -overseas my best friends are yourubas whom i have confided in for years but  i am taken aback whenever i read this threads which is full of hatred amongst youruba and Ibo. Sometimes i wonder if it is real since i have yorubas as my friends here and so far we are enjoying the friendship.

Alj Harem mentioned that Igbos are envious of yourubas . That i cant understand . In what aspect?  It should be the other way round .

As I mentioned before , i dont know that yorubas have issues with the North too until i visited NL . I have advocated for both tribes to come together and form a formidable force and deal with North as we do it in overseas to fend off attacks from other nationalities like India, china , whites etc  but it seems this idea is far fetched based on the replies i have gotten so far - that is bad . In that cases , Ibos have been dealing with their own situations all along therefore yorubas should find a way of  sorting theirs too. But they should stop pretending that they dont have issues with North and faces their problems head on instead of backing out.
PoliticsRe: North Ready For Nigeria’s Breakup–junaid Mohammed by iconaus: 11:47am On Mar 04, 2012
This site is interesting. There are certain things i am learning in this NL . I came to this site with an open mind to actually get authentic gists of the happenings in the Nigeria as i am residing abroad but to my greatest chargrin/disappointment the threads are full of tribal bigotry especially the yorubas picking/casting aspersions on igbos even over petty issues that do not warrant  sarcastic comments.

Now i beginning to understand that yorubas have more issues with the North than the igbos and yet the keep mute about them. This is unbelievable. This issue of North taking yoruba lands is not a small matter . With this unfolding and the yorubas sweeping it under the carpet ; i will request them as from henceforth to cease making any derogatory comments about igbos as the have more issues to settle with the north currently. I am learning a lot from this site.

I wonder why we in the South cannot come together and form a formidable force that will put the North where they belong. Hatred being exhibitted by both sdes espcaially the hatred yorubas have over igbos is totally absurd given that those days before the civil war , there existed a good relationship among both tribes as evidenced by Ojukwu's released of Awo from prison before the war etc

OJUKWU (I): AUTHENTIC NIGERIAN HERO

By Tokunbo Ogunbiyi

he adulation, encomiums and general praise heaped on General Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in the wake of his death last November were thoroughly deserved! It is not often that a life will traverse the nation-space and make such a forceful and far-reaching, if controversial, impact as Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu's did! And what a life it was! It is necessary for us after the dust of the obsequies have settled to take time to examine and meditate on the lessons, if any, that such a life may perhaps teach us. In our frenzied everyday life we often rush past potential nobel prize winners and do not give such a second glance perhaps because they have not fulfilled their potentialities, yet! But it is not unusual for us to gloss over and sometimes pass facile judgement on the lives of even the great. It would be a cardinal error if we did not approach an examination of Ikemba Nnewi's life with uncommon candour allowing for honesty of purpose to enthrone truth in our endeavours.

advertisement

I submit up front that I am not qualified to carry out such a searching scrutiny of the life of an exceptional man of our times; no, instead I have been moved or better still driven by the waves of response to his passing to issue a clarion to all men and women of goodwill, to all patriots and all who care to share in our common endeavour, otherwise called the Nigeria project to stand up and be counted! And in being counted to take account of this person that ultimately was larger than life!

To be sure Ojukwu himself would have objected to my title above but this is my article and it is my modest and inadequate salute to Ikemba. If he were faced between a choice of this outpouring and the realisation of his dream for Nigeria, I guess I know his choice! But I digress; Ojukwu never set out to be a hero but ended up an authentic Nigerian hero. Such paradox would encapsulate the totality of his persona. An Igbo man born in northern Nigeria in the land of the Gwari and the Nupe, he grew up in Lagos going to school and speaking Yoruba better than many Yoruba, as a schoolboy at King's College Lagos running into trouble with constituted authority in the days when white colonial masters were decidedly not only our betters and superiors but gods incarnate, a blackman as a student of Holman House in Epsom College as he himself described it "amongst a sea of white faces", excelling at rugby, winning prizes which were controversially not awarded to him!

As an Oxford graduate he might have expected to settle into a very good job in the administrative class in Lagos or in Enugu and in due course become a permanent secretary or alternatively joined the already successful family business that spanned everything from road haulage and personnel transport to cement manufacturing and banking, making his father, the late Sir Louis Odumegwu-Ojukwu not only an authentic self-made millionaire but a knight of the British Empire to boot! But it was not to Enugu or Lagos that the young man out of Lincoln College, Oxford headed, but to the eastern provinces at Udi as district officer. My father worked in the colonial civil service in Lagos and Enugu and Udi in those days could not be considered a glam posting! But that was where the bulk of the people lived and Ojukwu set out early to serve the people, not the interests of money or high politics.

But the paradoxes do not end there. It was Ojukwu, perhaps a greater believer in one Nigeria than any of his generation who mobilised the former Eastern Nigeria to break away as Biafra. The circumstances of the bitter days of 1966 and 1967 are too well known to require rehearsal here but let it be understood that the idea of one Nigeria and the unity of Nigeria was tattooed in Ojukwu's blood; how else could it be since as a babe in arms he drank the breast milk of one Nigeria! But then it is not unusual in our political discourse to read and re-read contrary views. Several schools of thought or thoughtlessness exist ranging from those who see Biafra as the triumph of his personal ambition and bloated ego, or the acquisitive Igbo desiring to appropriate the oil riches of the Niger Delta for their sole benefit. So far no one had adduced evidence of the effort made by those with the responsibility of protecting the lives of Nd'Igbo in northern Nigeria in 1966 and 1967 to end the bloodshed. No one either has demonstrated what Igbo should have done, faced with extermination as they indeed were during that dark period.

By his singular and brave and clear-sighted actions in 1966 through to 1970 and beyond Ojukwu held up a mirror to the Nigerian nation and state and invited us to look ourselves in the face. According to the New International Version of the Bible " Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like" (James 1: 23 and 24).

I will conclude by saying that in holding that mirror up Ojukwu became the authentic Nigerian hero because he dared to tell us what we ought to know about ourselves; alas the Nigerian people promptly forgot what they looked like after observing their face in that mirror! All the issues Ojukwu raised and which led us to Biafra remain with us forty six years later!

The above write up about Ojukwu by Tokunbo a yoruba has made me forgive yorubas in NL who are blinded by hatred and jealousy shown against the IBO. Some time you come across a sincere and a genuine yoruba person . Not all are myopic and bias

many many thanks Tokunbo

Sweet gala - u still dont understand it. If i view Ojukwu from Nigerian perspective rather than Biafran i ll still regard him as great man who saw tommorrow . If for instance, the yoruba region was the one that attempted secession and failed like Biafra - i will regard an average yoruba a wise person having predicted the eventual nature of the country called Nigeria . Pointless saying that Ojukwu brought division in Nigeria given that Biafra was created out of prevailing division at that time.

The fact that should be seeded in every Nigerian is that the nature of Islam as practised in the far north does not accomodate a non- moslem in their community . A non- moslem is an infidel and an infidel can be killed any time. As evidenced in other moslem populated area in the world . The earlier nigerians recognised this the better. Ojukwu saw this 45 yrs ago and this is still happening and will continue unabated as long as nigeria remains one. We should join hands together esp south to fight this ugly situation in the North . One would not say is ok when it seems that one ethnic group is the target . As long as you re in Nigeria , you can be a victim or your tribe . For instance , the yorubas lost Abiola, south south lost the likes of Ken sarowiwa etc , north central Major Orka and the killings in Jos etc So this not the Ibo fight alone .

For people saying that these nice eugulogies accorded to Ojukwu was because it is not good to speak evil of the death but people should also know that the truth is spoken of a person when he dies.

I've not failed to acclaim the man as being of great integrity all I have done is question his decisions and actions. We all see where we are.  The Nigerian nation is paying tribute to this charismatic man but we can't ignore the feeling that his decision to breakaway and draw the nation into civil war was in no one's interest and at the conclusion of the war no one's benefit. Several decades later that region that provided our first president is yet to provide another. A constant elevation of the biafra nation over nigeria does not help such region.
Igbo people love their ikemba for no other reason but because he is Igbo. You try view him through the eyes of a nigerian, and you'll know how I feel. He betrayed the nation. History is written on the account of the victors, it's a good time to chose whose side you are on biafra or nigeria!!!,

The goodwill and praise ojukwu is receiving now is nothing but polite people being decent. You never speak ill of a dead man it is said.

I agree with some of the assertions in the write up . I expect  part two.
GBAWE- i am happy u didn't touch on other facts raised in my comments. U focused on the migration hence u concured with me in other facts -good . How dare u compare American and Britons with Yoruba people? Those countries are 1st world while Nigeria is 4th world . But it will interest you that Americans and Britons are now migrating to country like Australia -heaps of them in australia .So such using countries as example is totally wrong.  The simply truth is that yorubas cannnot move to other parts of the country because of fears and lack of gut to compete with people like Igbos in South east  and their tribalistic nature . East welcomes people from all parts of Nigeria and SE is accomadating with least hostility with other Nigerians - that is the fact and there is money there ; so i dont understand u. It is simply cowardice. Quite contrary to SW, SE instead is penetrating other parts of Nigeria taking over businesses and establishing themselves in all ramifications- What do u call that?  courage, fearless , industrious  , smartness and most vital seeing fellow Nigerians as human being hence that penchant to migrate to other parts. A person with tribalistic tendency is scared to move from his domain - that is the Yoruba people and partly  the northern people.

SW has been in power , what do have to show for it ? SW was even far far better before the war . U fought for Nigeria to be one, why are you abandoning and deserting nigeria ? It is the country u created
Yes Yoruba got highly educated in the past hence a lot of SW had the privilege to migrate to other parts of the world before other tribes - what is happening now ? the igbos  have taken over and are the image of Nigeria abroad - i ve lived outside Nigeria for over 15 yrs in different countries ; i have my facts. Just accept that Yorubas are cowards and is well known in Nigeria - other tribes know that .

Igbos don't regret the war . The war was inevitable . People especially the yorubas who think that we re  regretting the war ; got it wrong. The only regret was that Biafra was not actualised but for going to war ; we  re proud of that because is only igbos amongst the Nigerian tribes can only moster such audacity and courage to fight the whole nigeria and this is evident upon the present Nigeria as 1) igbos are still in every nook and crevices of Nigeria - coward people cant venture out of there zones given igbos past experience in Nigeria 2) despite mistreatment and marginalisation of igbos yet igbos are the most progressive people in Nigeria today  currently there is no more villages in SE - what a people ? Our fathers were given only 20 pounds after the defeat of Biafra to start life . Where are the igbos now? at the top .What a tribe?  and rise of the igbos is just the beginning and that is the fears that is gripping other tribes esp SW  . watch out the current trend in regard to ethnic realignment - SS and North central are now aligning with the South east . Is SW going take far North as allies( BOKO) ? i think the answer is no after Abiola murder . SW wisen up and face the reality or do you want to carve out your own country as evident in  the last election where ACN won all the governor seats in SW and non support of jonathan by  SW in the presidential election.

It is high time this get clarrified . Igbos felt betrayed because the agreement Ojukwu had with Awo was that once Igbos secide that the yoruba people would follow suit by declaring their own country but Awo turned around to do the opposite and went further to support   the north in the war  . No time  ojukwu expected the yorubas to help him fight the war.

Lt Colonel in 1966 in Nigeria is equivalent to filed marshal +++ in nigerian army today therefore Ojukwu was Field marshall given his qualifications( Oxford trained) and the height he attained in 1966 at that age and at the time.

Ojukwu was indeed a great man which is evident upon the recents events . The recent events have unearthed the greatness in Ojukwu and has afforded the younger generation the opportunity to know more and the truth about the the man Ojukwu especially people from SW, SS and North who were fed with wrong info about the man Ojukwu and his Biafran struggles. Unfortunately, SW people are still in denial of the rationale behind Ojukwu's struggle but they met the same faith with the man Abiola . What happened to Abiola ? SW lay down your arms and join the other parts of the South in pursuance of Ojukwu's idealogy as you people lost a great man too- Abiola to the Northern cabal. So stop pretending that it has been rosy for yorubas in the pseudo country called Nigeria .

Bluetooth your stupid! you are asking why igbos every time . You know the answer only that you feigning ignorant of the answer. Let me answer you . The answer is that Igos are most progressive, most dynamic , hard working , most intelligent , the richest tribe in Nigeria hence other tribes are jealous of them . In addition, Muslims in the north hate Christians therefore igbos who are 100% Christians are targeted . These are the reasons why igbos are targeted everywhere in Nigeria. But unfortunately, igbos are unstopable.
