Was it mediocrity when Boris Johnson in the UK put the same thing on social media to show off?

If you attribute the low infection rate to gov's proactive actions, why don't you also accept that it's the wailers that deserve the best praise for pushing govs to take those actions. When wailers were pressing for border closure, you zombies were defending govt. When wailers were asking govt to address the nation, you zombies said no need for such. So far, these are the actions known by all to have been taken by the govt to curb the spread. So why don't you thank wailers for speaking up when you chose to lick ass

The more you test, the more confirmed cases u will get because most people that have it doesn't show any symptoms that's why WHO Emphasized on the needs for countries to test as many people as possible

Good to read the points you raised. Now, I'll can only attempt to, based on those raised alone, make you understand how we've only been fooling ourselves.

Your first point was on how body temperature was being checked at the airports, before our first recorded case.

Please, kindly school me on how effective temperature check is, in detecting a possible corona virus carrier. While you're at it, kindly explain again how the index case got through the check at the airport.

What's the incubation period of this virus?

As an alternative to the temperature check, wouldn't it have been wise if we had subjected those coming from other countries, especially from the flash points, to some sort of self isolation and monitoring, as it's the current practice?

On your second point, you'll have to understand that we can not ignore the fact that the more test we carry out, the higher the confirmed cased could rise (God forbid). The more confirmed cases we record, the more it will stretch our ill-equiped isolation units and medical centers. The more pressure we put on the system, the higher the likelihood of having more casualties (again, God forbid).

It's well known that the best way to beat this is by carrying out massive testing of residents. How many testing centers do we have in the country currently? What's the cost of setting up one? Why couldn't we set up as many as possible before our index case? Proactive?

The last point you raised, again, slow testing facilities, like I pointed out above, could be responsible for it. Otherwise, why the steady increase in numbers of confirmed case?

Lastly, I can only appeal to everyone that irrespective of our partisan interests, we should all rise up and speak up so as to make the people in authority to realize why government was created in the first place. Let's stop celebrating mediocrity.
An Italian contractor who flew into Nigeria from Milan became sub-Saharan Africa’s first confirmed coronavirus patient on Friday, stoking concern that an outbreak on the continent could overwhelm already strained health care systems.

The patient, a young man, had no symptoms when he landed this week in Lagos, traveled 60 miles north to the cement factory where he works and developed a fever there, a Nigerian health commissioner said to reporters.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/28/world/africa/nigeria-coronavirus.html
For any fever or any negative temp reading to be detected, you fist have to be symptomatic, the Italian man was had no symptoms.

I know you are inflamed with passion. But common sense tells us that Taiwan is a next door neighbor to China, and compared to their potential level of exposure, they have done brilliantly.

Now, even at that, they still had cases. Logically that should tell you that the situation is so grave out there that even with proactive measures countries cannot completely prevent it.

So what about those who refuse to be proactive at all like Nigeria?

I invite you to the table of reason sir. Have your seat like a gentleman.

@ the bolded you can't be serious. grin so you mean the people carrying it around are deliberately doing it? Let's be fair to ourselves.

I dont think we need another country to be an example. Is there anything wrong with Nigeria being the example?

If you must have an example, take Taiwan. Despite being in the epicenter of the crisis, Taiwan is going about it's business while we in Africa are locked down. What did they do? Aggressive travel control measures within the first 5 weeks while other countries were spectating.
23 million has about 300 cases and 3 deaths

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-taiwan-death/taiwan-reports-third-coronavirus-death-total-cases-near-300-idUSKBN21H00P
Nigeria: 200 Million, 159 cases, 9 discharged, 2 deaths.

Going by states and population, we are doing better than Taiwan and a lot of countries around the world.

To have 200 million people and still have one of the lowest cases and death ratio in the world while countries with less than 30 million people are struggling with higher numbers is something to be cautiously happy about.

We are actually doing better than Taiwan and regardless of the measures they are nor not taking today, you have no clue about what measures tomorrow will bring.

Before commenting and before you compare us with other countries, do basic research.

His knowledge of what is going on is so mundane and his writeup is more of a politcal propaganda, devoid of facts.
Imagine, asking which coutry has quarrantine returnee-citizens! shocked shocked

Nigeria is just beginning to climb its own "Mountain of infection", statistically speaking, other countries that are nearing or have "peaked", are evacuating their citizens out of Nigeria, (US, UK, Europe, etc) because they know that in about two weeks from now, Nigeria will be experiencing its own "peak of wahala" (God help us), judging by the rising numver of people testing positives and number of runaway contacts......and they dont want their citizens to be in the midst of such pandemic, in the Nigerian space where paid agents come online to write article about what the Govt wants to hear. undecided
Going by stats and timeline, we have successfully peaked without crisis or devastation because we were prepared, because when Trump was playing gulf, calling the virus a hoax and calling the people talking about the virus instead of testing people and and pouting measures place to fight the virus, Nigeria was testing, successfully treating and discharging infected people.

The fact that we still have 2 deaths and less than 200 infections mean we did something right and we are still doing great.

The calamity you people are hoping and praying for did not happen and still won't happen.

My good man, is it not tenable that:

1. The crisis came to Nigeria later than the countries you mention in the west. Therefore, those countries having provided an example cannot be compared with Nigeria whom should have learned by the aforementioned example?

3. That like for like comparisons are not possible because one, those countries have a far higher inflow of traffic from affected spots; and second, because Nigerias testing capacity is far, far lower than that of other countries...so we may be thinking the crisis is lower here than it actually is. US made this error as well.

4. That there is an obvious cycle where the initial wave of cases seems manageable and then balloons.

Having said all this, I conclude by arguing, without making any comparison that Buhari mismanaged this situation by:

1. Leaving the borders open until a critical mass had become infected

2. Failing to beef up the NCDC capacity despite having showed initial foresight.

3. Failing to address the nation in a timely manner, leading to states having to take the lead

4. Failing to provide critical food supplies for the poor in areas under federal lock down.

Now all of this is underscored by this simple fact: Nigeria does not have the resources other nations have to effectively tackled this crisis. Therefore we ought to have taken extra care. All Mr. President had to do was to close the borders early enough.
