HealthU.S. Records 700 Coronavirus Deaths In A Single Day For First Time by idealogical(op): 11:01pm On Mar 31, 2020
The U.S. government raced to build hundreds of makeshift hospitals to ease the strain on overwhelmed healthcare systems as the United States marked 700 deaths in a single day from COVID-19 for the first time on Tuesday.

That is the equivalent of a person dying every two minutes.

Nearly half those deaths were in New York state, still the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio pleaded for reinforcements from the Trump administration, saying the worst may still be weeks away.

“This is the point at which we must be prepared for next week when we expect a huge increase in the number of cases. What I asked very clearly, last week, was for military medical personnel to be deployed here,” de Blasio said at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, where a field hospital was being built.

De Blasio, a Democrat, said he had asked the White House for an additional 1,000 nurses, 300 respiratory therapists and 150 doctors by April 5 but had yet to receive an answer from the Trump administration.

All told, more than 3,700 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States during the outbreak, more than the number who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The total confirmed U.S. cases rose to 184,000, up 21,000 from the day before.

White House medical experts have said between 100,000 to 200,000 people could ultimately die from the respiratory disease in the United States this year, despite orders in most major cities confining Americans to their homes except for the most necessary outings. More than 30 states have ordered people to stay at home to contain the virus, a move that has strangled the economy and left millions without a paycheck, at least temporarily.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was searching for hotels, dormitories, convention centers and large open spaces to build as many as 341 temporary hospitals, Lieutenant General Todd Semonite, the head of the corps, told the ABC News “Good Morning America” program.

In the same vein, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state also urged people of the state to remember the governor in their prayers. In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Dr.Abdul-Azeez Olatunde, APC said nothing happened without Almighty God’s permission.

He wasn't mocking them. He was only quoting what Oshiomole said. Oshiomole said the virus has entered their party (APC).
“They said we shouldn’t do a rally because of Coronavirus. But it’s their own leader that said Coronavirus is inside their party.... There’s no Coronavirus inside our own party.” — Seyi Makinde, PDP Rally in Ibadan, March 18, 2020.
Look at the red highlight, he was warned and asked not to stage the rally because of Coronavirus, but instead of heeding the warning, he organized the rally and on top of that, he joked laughed about the warning, he also mocked and ridiculed the opposition for warning him, he then went on to say they have coronavirus in their party, but we don't have coronavirus in our party.

Fast forward to 2 days later, the first virus case showed up in Oyo state, but mind you,, before the first case and the rally, he had nothing in place to fight the virus, he apologized and quickly set up a task force after the backlash received, no isolation center, no government policy, nothing.

This is actually what the irresponsible and reckless man said, he was mocking the opposition and trivializing Covidd-19.

Makinde knew Davido just came back from America and was probably exposed, even if he wasn't, Makinde should have distanced himself from Davido or at least practiced social distancing.

Makinde even allowed Davido to violate the state's order not to stage concerts, he knew the reason why Davido was in Ibadan which was to stage concerts, but during the visit, he did not bother to tell Davido about his ban order or pleaded with him not to stage the concert, the foolish governor and Davido exposed innocent citizens unnecessarily.

Oga, there is nothing unbecoming with what Soyinka said.

He is a Nigerian....an elite Nigerian at that. His position on the President's lockdown directive is obviously inquisitive and admonishing.

Soyinka simply called for caution and sensitivity to constitutionality in the issuance of directives as efforts are being made to contain the spread of the Corona virus epidemic.

Aren't we in a constitutional democracy anymore?
We are in a democracy, our constitution is the bedrock of our democracy, the same democracy that gave the president the power and authority to do what he did.

When you question a democratic act that's backed by the full weight of the constitution, then you are actually anti-democracy, unless maybe you and the prof have your own different brand of democracy that we don't know anything about.

Also, the professor did not beg for caution, he actually questioned the authority of the president to use a constitutionally genuine law and powers vested in him to protect Nigerians per the oath of office he took.

The president swore to protect Nigerians, he took that oath and he's legally doing what the constitution permitted him to do and you are the professor, on the other hand, did not swear an oath to protect Nigerians.

Buhari signs COVID-19 regulations to enforce lockdown in Lagos, others

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has signed the COVID-19 Regulations 2020, declaring coronavirus a dangerous infectious disease.

In a statement on Monday night in Abuja, the Presidency said Buhari acted in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Quarantine Act (CAP Q2 LFN 2004), and “all other powers enabling him in that behalf”.

The statement, which was signed by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, added, “The Regulations, effective March 30, 2020, also gave legal backing to the various measures outlined in the President’s National Broadcast on March 29, 2020, such as restriction/cessation of movement in Lagos, FCT and Ogun State and others toward containing the spread of the pandemic in the country.

How can u lock down a place so big without providing social welfare for the people. What about people that survive on daily earnings? The other countries that lock down, provide food, money and other benefits for their people, but mumu leaders will just want to lock people up just like that.
From day 5, people will start running out from their houses, it's better the "audio" corona virus kills them than hunger to kill them.

Prof, have you read the constitution and what it empowers the president to do to save your life?

Prof, I love you very much, but you are very very wrong, this is an emergency, I guess it is not to you because you and your family members are not on a COVID death bead fighting to stay alive.

I don't get the silly yanga some Nigerians are making over this issue, we well-read and very educated and influential man who should be using his influence to spread a positive message and to educate his fellow men and women about the deadly virus and how to stay safe, practice good hygiene and obey government orders is busy fighting the government instead of fighting the disease.

This careless and irresponsible attitude against the government that's trying to protect Nigerians gives lawless and irresponsible people like him a false sense of awareness

This is just too irritating.

The government is not your enemy, COVID-19 is your enemy.
