The mistake you people make when you read my comments .....is that you think I am defending pmb.

I am not....I am merely stating that he has a hefty job to do......and he is not doing it right.

Only way for Nigeria's economy to improve is to get rid of our reliance on oil....and go industrial...which guarantees self sufficiency and more revenue for our economy than oil can provide. And jobs galore.

Russia, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia are all affected.

Russia is losing jobs, Saudi Arabia is in panic mode....they are already raising taxes....and of course...Venezuela is in dire stratis.

And in the oil producing parts of the UK and US....jobs are being lost. and economy is being depressed.

So you do admit our economy is oil dependent! Hey!

But that $50 is not what we need. Nigeria needs oil at $123, Russia at $99 and Saudi Arabia at $70. That $50 won't earn us much money at all.

That is why.....if you read me clearly....I am saying Nigeria's problem ultimately is our dependence on exporting resources whose prices we do not control. Like oil!

Here is a good article explaining how it works. Written in 2004 by the way!
i will start with the later, why do you need oil to survive when you have multiple options in terms of natural and human resources.

Why do you need oil at what so ever price when you have people ready to invest in converting raw materials to finished goods but Can't afford your interest rates or the cost of running business due to your policies and multiple taxation.

Why do you need oil to survive, when they are other countries doing well without oil reserves?

And if oil prices went up tomorrow...you folks would be praising Buhari as a miracle worker.

While I would still be talking the same way I am.....

Fact is....most Nigerian governments since independence have had the same policy.....export as much raw materiel as possible and share the money earned in a nice and kind way.

Real policy for me would be increased spending on what we need to become self sufficient...and keep as much oforex as possible at home...and the only way we can do that is via industries.
see your problem, they have made you believe that the issue is price of oil, hiding their cluesslessness,

I won't go further except you explain to us if Nigeria is the only one affected by fail in price,

Mind you our benchmark is below $50 so From the current oil prices simple mathematics should have made you understood that we have excess funds also add the trillions that they have recovered from looted funds as alleged

The mess was already happening long before he came in....when oil prices began falling by 2014....and Mrs Okonjo-Iweala was saying that things would get bad...regardless of whoever wins.

We were a big economy because we were buffered by the immense revenue comming from high oil prices above $100 per barrel.Now...the oil has fallen to below $50. Of course....we have less spending money....and thus we are poor.

We could blame GEJ for not saving , BUT......even if he saved....we would have had enough to hold things off till 2017.....and then things go bad.

The real enemy here is Nigeria's resource dependency. Let us stop relying on revenue from selling oil and agric...whose prices we do not control...and using the income to import things we should be making. That is why we have a bad economy....and why the economy was band even when GEJ was in charge.
Businesses are not failing because of Gej even if Amaechi and co Allowed him to save.

Businesses are failing because APC government is hopelessly clueless, they were only desparate about getting power.

No policy direction, every recent policies have been changed more than 3 times within a quarter, what does that tell you, they are clueless folks practising trial and error and all they care about is generating revenue to feed political class not minding the impacting of those sources on the masses.

By 2019, only fashola will have something to show as a minister, the rest are political jobbers

searchiing4love:
What these people fail to realize is the shame and ridicule the biafra movement has become ever since Nnamdi kanu was discovered to be a fraud and arrested by the Nigerian government. Right to self determination is a treasonable offense against the Nigerian state because it's not captured in our Constitution. It is totally illegal for any region or group of people to demand seccession from Nigeria. The penalty would have been death if we were in a military regime. The Indian government recently opened fire on secessionist in the Kashmir region of India just to serve as a deterrent to future agitators. Despite having a referendum, Scotland chose to remain in the UK cos they for-saw their impending doom if they decide to leave. The Spanish government have disregarded several calls for catalonia to break away from spain. Russia recently annexed crimea from Ukraine after the crimeans got tired of life outside the soviet Union. The people of South Sudan are regretting their decision to leave Sudan till today and yet the Igbo's are hell bent on having biafra despite all the glaring indices of an impending failure if biafra is ever achieved. No country in the world wants a break away of its territory. Even the United States that preaches freedom disregarded Texas's call for seccession. The reason for seccession of the Igbo's has not been clearly defined. The fruitless agitations is fuelled by hate and jealousy of other region's political stability and doggedness. Their political miscalculations in the last elections gave birth to the recent biafra calls headed by the disgruntled element called Nnamdi kanu who was feeding fat on the Biafran sentiment before been apprehended. The British saw a potential in our diversity before merging us together as a united Nigeria and every sane mind believes the future of the Igbo's lie in nigeria. What we need is a united south and we will wrestle political power away from Northern monopoly who sees power as their birth right. Will the Igbo's ever work with bourdillon to achieve a united south? Time will tell. Say no to biafra, God bless Nigeria sad
indeed, when they want to keep you as their slaves, they write articles like this … you can't brainwash everyone …

BusinessRe: Manufacturers Worry As Profit Margin Shrinks by ideology(m): 10:04am On Aug 22, 2016
Omooba77:
These are not be the best of times for manufacturers in Nigeria as they face high operating costs, scarcity of foreign exchange, low capacity utilisation and a drastic drop in profit margins. Latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics at the manufacturing sector was feeling the negative impact of high operating costs as it recorded 2.98 per cent (year-on-year) in nominal Gross
Domestic Product growth rate in the first quarter of 2016. This was 4.23 percentage points lower than the growth recorded in the Q1 2015 and 9.91 percentage points lower than the growth in the fourth quarter of 2015 as a result of slower growth in 10 of 13 subsections of the manufacturing sector.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the sector slowed by 11.92 per cent. The contribution of manufacturing to nominal GDP was 9.33 per cent in the Q1 2016, lower than the 10.17 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2015, yet marginally 9.09 per cent in the Q4 2015. In the Q1 2016, the real GDP growth of the manufacturing sector slowed by seven per cent, 6.30 percentage points lower than the growth recorded in the Q1 2015 with oil refining, cement, food, beverage and tobacco and electricity activities weighing on growth.

Only recently, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the inability of manufacturers to secure foreign exchange for the importation of basic raw
materials for production had led to loss of job by over 50,000 workers. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria also said about 10 manufacturing companies had written to the association indicating their plans to shut down. It said if they shut down operations, at least 2,000 people working in the companies would be thrown into the already overcrowded labour market. Experts said the infrastructural decadence affecting manufacturing activities over the years was compounded by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive excluding 41 items from accessing official foreign
exchange in Nigeria. Analysts said there was a need for the government and stakeholders in the sector to come up with innovative ways to enable industrialists to remain in business.

The President, MAN, Dr. Frank Jacobs, for instance, called on the Federal Government to consider what he described as “resource-based industrialisation” to boost
the utilisation of local raw materials for production. The resource-based industrialisation, according to him, involves the utilisation of the abundant natural resources in producing the products that the country
needs. This, he noted, was a more sustainable and lasting form of industrialisation when compared with the current import-dependent industrialisation. He said, “We are all aware that one of the greatest challenges manufacturers are facing currently is scarcity of raw materials for production, as a result of the prevailing
forex scarcity. “The resource-based industrialisation
policy involves the utilisation of the abundant natural resources in producing.

The changes we are canvassing will, no doubt, be at a huge cost as manufacturers may have to retool existing technologies and production processes. “Government, therefore, has a lot to do to make this new orientation of resource-based industrialisation successful. Government should create attractive incentives for investors who will engage in the processing of the abundant agricultural and minerals resources from
primary produce to secondary or intermediate products.
“This will go a long way in attracting potential and current manufacturers into the use of local raw material inputs, which will then be readily available locally.”

While admitting that the sector was faced with scarcity of foreign exchange, Jacobs said the association had had regular meetings with the Presidency and the CBN
leadership on the need to make forex more accessible to industrialists. He said the association would continue to press for the exclusion of some of the items that restriction was placed on for foreign exchange. He said with economic recession facing the sector, there was a need for the association to review its strategies and
face the challenges in order to survive. He said, “It is no time to be despondent. We will bond together and face the challenge with our time-tested skills and resolve. We need to review our processes and re-strategise to weather the storm, knowing that after the storm, comes
sunshine.”

Also speaking, the Officer in Charge, United Nation Industrial Development Organisation, Dr. Chuma Ezedinma, said while the country had enough potential to industrialise, there was a need to address the structural challenges militating against the progress of manufacturers.

Where do I even start from.... cry

Please refer to my memoir posted on nairaland here...

https://www.nairaland.com/2981751/memoirs-job-hunter

The little data entry work I have been managing... The office has been closed due to Buharinomics.... The company had been out of contract since after the elections.... They finally succumbed to the times and ordered the branch closed.

So since June, I've been home firing applications here and there....ended the same way as the other ones.... "Its marketing job/well call you later"... Hmmm

I tried taking on writing jobs but it's complicated... Though the jobs are available, power situation in town is very erratic...BEDC domian.... And after using my money to run gen/buy data to source articles/PDFs online, when it's time to get paid, it's one story after the other of they send N200 card pin for a 1,500 word article that cost me about N500 (fuel/data) to produce... angry angry grin angry grin

I can't try foreign writing sites... Upwork, fiverr cos of power issues .... sad

Then my laptop fell and screen broke last Saturday...!!!... shocked shocked :O

Wetin man go do now? If I get another screen @ N15,000 ... I surely wouldn't have money to run writing jobs anymore... How can one be spending N500 on top of N200-N300 articles? embarassed embarassed tongue

So I have decided to park bus and find something concrete to keep me busy for meantime... I hate being idle...

About me: I am a graduate of Intelligence & Security Studies... If you wonder why I haven't joined the armed forces, it's cos I have some heading loss & foot drop... same reason why I get turned away even after scaling tests and interviews.

Skill wise, I'm good with Microsoft office, excellent in online research and very good at writing. If you'll like to see my works, they're on my blog : stephenoweniwe.wordpress.

Location wise, I often shuttle between Lagos, Delta and Enugu to run my hustles.

So dear nairalanders, if you can help a brother with a job, I'll be happy. I can be reached through my mobile number on WhatsApp 08104447220, by SMS, or PM me... My Cv is available on request

Cheers cheesy

PhonesRe: Why Glo Will Lose The Data Wars! by ideology(m): 3:54pm On Aug 20, 2016
Politicalidiot:
Today after almost a week of testing, I have finally gotten tired of Glo. Now, it is necessary to note at this junction that I am a heavy user of all the networks - MTN (2 Sims), Airtel (2 Sims), Etisalat (1 sim) and Glo (1 recent sim). Like everyone within the past 2 months, I had been inundated with the recent Glo data offers (#1000 for a Bazillion gb). So exactly on monday this week, I decided to take the bite and try out Glo again (after an almost 3yr hiatus).
Its been 4days now, and even though I hardly write, I had to sit down and pen these cogent reasons on why Glo will be the loser of the data Wars.

1. Super Poor Network Connection: Yes. As everyone knows, Glo and poor network are 5 & 6 and its only someone working in Glo office that will tell you otherwise. Get used to super slow network the likes you probably haven't seen since the late 2000s. I could wager my money that even the Airtel 2g is faster that Glo 3g at times. Proof? A simple Google or Nairaland search will convince you (check the post date.)

2. Frequent Disconnection: During my few days of Data hell, it was as if Glo owned my phone. What with the frequent data disconnections and network vanishing at intervals. I had never experienced such sorcery prior to Glo. This may have been the end of my sorrows until....

3. GPS: Remember when I said it was as if Glo owned my phone? Yea right. They had to one up themselves didn't they? Any time I put on my data connection, so would My GPS be unceremoniously turned on. I suspected foul play on Glo 's part and a simple Google search brought me to this page on NL - https://www.nairaland.com/2899604/gps-keeps-turning-automatically-after/1 confirming my suspicion. Glo was the culprit!!! Did anyone inform Glo I played Pokemon Go? Wetin person dey use GPS do for naija? I tire.

Glo seriously just had to know where I was. huh . Even if you turn it off, within a minute it was back again. And God help you if you sleep off without putting off your data. Just kiss your fully charged battery Goodbye. Especially in this era that Nepa doesn't have joyhuh

This was the last straw. I couldn't take it again (I probably will until my subscription expires Sunday. So, yes. I posted this with Glo). A bad User experience coupled with poor network? Glo is silently but surely heading for the data Gallows.
